I Hope You Dance

Have you ever walked through a store and had something catch your eye and you don't know why, but you pick it up? I don't know why I picked up this book. But I did and started reading. I found myself standing in the middle of Kmart, thinking of my daughter and crying like a baby. She had recently separated from her husband and this book/song said exactly what I have always wanted for her. I bought it and sent it to her and she cried too.

I had heard the song before, but never listened to the words. I am grateful that someone could put into words the exact things that I need to convey to my daughter.

Some years ago, now, when this song first became popular, my daughter and I were really at odds. She was in her late teens and I realized that I seemed to be on her all the time, wanting her to do what I wanted, be what I wanted, and follow my goals. This song really spoke to me as I realized SHE was entering her own young adulthood and she needed to make her own goals and follow them. It was time to let go a bit as a mother. I found this book and wrote her a note, apologizing for pushing her to be what I wanted, and not letting her be free to be herself. I promised her I would give her the freedom she needed and deserved and support her in her decisions. It was a turning point in our relationship, for the better! This past year, at her wedding, she had a different theme at each table, something that was meaningful to her and her husband. This song and book was one of the themes.

I was going through counseling seeking to put my life back together when I saw this book in a restaurant. The title of the book caught me eye because I had lost the dance of my life. I was no longer dancing or felt the strength or emotion to dance. I new I wanted to try dancing once again in my life. To me dancing is living life to the fullest. This book helped me to regain hope that was lost, that life could be different and I could regain the dance of my life. Years later it is still is a great companion on the road of my life. Reminding me there is always hope, even when hope is gone. May this book help you regain the dance of your life or to just enjoy the dance you already have.

This really translates to "we are out of the book pictured, so we'll substute whatever we have left." I DID read that before ordering, but thought it would be a derivation of little girls.

I ordered the book for my granddaughter in honor of her dance recital. The one I received came with a cute little boy on the cover -- appropriate for boys as well as girls -- but I would have had to explain why I was giving her a "boys" book and the meaning I wanted to convey for her would have been lost.

I called around and found the one with the little girl at a local Barnes & Noble. (I kept the other, as the sentiments are also for my grandson, when he is older.) However, I feel that the store.com should post the cover of the books which are actually in stock so that we may make an informed purchasing decision.

I just bought my second copy of this wonderful piece. I bought the first one for my brother. See, my brother and I are very close and I danced with him to this song on my wedding day. Everytime I hear it I'm reminded of that special day and the bond that me and my brother have formed throughout our lives. But, I didn't have a copy for myself. Now I do. I'm proud of my brother for all he has accomplished in life. I just don't want him to forget the importance of other things too. This is a great buy and a must have.

I accidentally bought this book, just for its title "I hope you dance". But it is one of the best books I have ever bought. The first time I read this it and listened to the enclosed CD it went straight to my heart. I would like to recommend this to everybody to read and experience the lyrics.

This book is a great gift, especially to those enterring new exciting chapters in their lives. It could as a result of death, illness, or just starting a new chapter. Life is hard but enjoy gain strengh from that around you.
