Heat (Dark Kings, #12) by Donna Grant outstandingly lives up to the title and whoa!, the chemistry jumping from the pages is phenomenal. This has been a great series thus far and Heat only adds to the theme, building in intensity. This one just moved Blaze down from my favorite in the series. I love that the reader gets to revisit characters from other books that are intertwined with this world. Nikolai and Esther's story unfolds flawlessly without the male/female drama of I do but I don't. It's refreshing. I do recommend that this book not be your first read of the series because you do need more background before diving in, but once you're there, these Dragon Kings will never let you go! If you enjoyed any of the Dark Kings books, I highly recommend this because I think it's pivotal to what's coming. I can also recommend The Sons of Texas Series.

Nikolai is a dragon shifter who has a special gift of instant memorization. Because of that, he is very solitary. There is one person he doesn’t want to stay away from and when Esther asks for his help, everything in his world will change.
This was the next novel in Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series. As with the others, it didn’t disappoint. I loved it. I loved Nikolai and really loved Esther’s journey. She had appeared in other books, so I was happy she got an HEA. Giving us a different perspective of Ulrik makes me want his book to hurry up and get here! Poor Rhi! She has been my favorite character throughout all of these books and this one had me wanting to punch something for her. It’s driving me nuts not knowing her dragon! I can’t wait for the next book.

Esther is a former MI5 agent whose memory was messed with by a Druid. Esther then requests help from Nikolai, a hot Dragon King, to help her track down the Druid and recover her memories.

There are several story lines happening in this book. I had a hard time following along with parts because I haven't read any of the previous books.

I am glad I read this anyway. I also really liked the story line with the light and dark fae quite a bit, too. I want Rhi to reunite with her Dragon King. Whoever that may be. That alone is enough reason to start at the beginning and get all my questions answered. So, really, this book has made me want to read the whole series and that makes it a darn good book.

I received this ebook from NetGalley. This review is completely my opinion.

This being the twelfth book in the Dark Kings series; Heat took a while before I was able to warm up to the story. Having not read the prior books the numerous characters and pages spent on the background of Grant's world were challenging to keep straight. That being said the paranormal beings were interesting along with the writing talents of Grant. Nikolai is a Dragon King who is tasked with helping Esther an M15 agent retrieve missing memories that have been stolen. Both Nikolai and Esther had unique histories and it was a pleasure to read about them. Romantic paranormal conflict that would be best if the series were read in its entirety. " Copy of this book was provided by St. Martin's Press via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."

This is not a standalone book. I would highly recommend reading this whole series. This is Nikolai and Esther's story. We do find out some interesting things in this book. We always find out answers to some of our questions whenever Donna comes out with a new book in this series. We also start asking many more questions but that's what makes reading this books so great. Someone who should have died awhile ago finally does. What is Con upto? It was great seeing some of the Warriors and Druids in this book (I miss them). It is always great to be able to read these books early but then it feels like I have to wait long for the next book, lol.

*Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this for my honest opinion*

Dragon King Nikolai has a gift for drawing. He only needs to see something once and he can reproduce it in great detail. There is also a little magic that helps him take his drawing just a bit further.
Esther North is now working with the Dragon Kings, but is suffering the after effects of a druid invading her mind. Maybe Nikolai can help her. Our characters have several problems to solve. Lots of different villains all with their own agenda.
This is a series that should be read in order. The underlying story carries on through each book although they each have a different hero and heroine.
Lots of magic , danger and intrigue.
A very exciting and magical series.

Heat (Dark Kings, #12) by Donna Grant ...Just finished another Dark Kings book and I'm so glad that #NetGalley let me preview it. I want my own Dark King ..but if I can't have that at least get to share their stories. Nikolai was saved by Ulrik as a hatchling when his parents were killed... Ulrik raised him and when it was time he became the Ivory King...but he sided with Con when Ulrik was thrown out. Esther is Henry's sister and has had her memories blocked. Their story to find the druid Eilish and her memories is the main story. Side stories with Rhi, Con and other kings and their mates and what happens with Balladyn and Taraeth... I can't wait for the next book.

Shapeshifting dragons, Dark Fae and an MI5 Agent with a memory altered by magic.

Nikolai is a dragon who was orphaned at a young age. He was adopted by Ulrik and raised to be a Dragon King. Dragon Kings apparently sleep a lot. Nikolai is awakened and is tasked with easing tensions with Ulrik and other Dragon Kings. This task includes helping Edith, a MI5 agent retrace her steps she she can remember her past. It turns out Edith has magic of her own that she never knew about. They discover Edith’s magic, Nikolai shifts into dragon form.

I voluntarily read an advanced reviewers copy of this book

I want to start by saying that I usually am not a dragon shifter romance fan but after 12 books I have to give it up to Donna Grant for keeping things interesting and ever changing.

Esther and Nikolai were great together because he was willing to go on a crazy journey with her, that made no sense to me, to help her solve an almost impossible mystery. While I have been waiting for Esther's story, Rhi has always been my motivation to read one book after another.

Overall not a bad addition to the overall series.

I love this series! The sheer depth of characters never fails to impress me, along with the complexity of the story that is ever changing and endlessly entertaining. I love how the plot and pace go hand in hand, and even when the pace is slow there is enough going on that it keeps it moving. I can't help thinking that the title doesn't at all go with the story, but it feels like an undiscovered treasure when you dig into it expecting fluff and get a complicated, intricate story instead. Absolutely loved it, and thank you so very much for the opportunity to review this gem.

Love this series! Nikolai is trying to help Ester get her memory back and as they do they grow closer together. The fight continues between the dark and the light and the continued battle between Ulrik and Con. Rhi’s heart may be getting broke again. This series really draws you and the story has plenty of action, drama and steam. I was hooked from beginning to end! Looking forward to more in this series!

Such a misleading title: Heat. What is hidden in the depths of these pages good far beyond that mild word. Passion. Integrity. Intensity. Revelations. These are the words that ran through my head as I read about Esther and her search to recover her memories. This is not the first story in the series, but you can definitely read it as a stand alone. Always do recommend starting at the beginning though.

I started Heat without reading any of the other books in this series. I was lost, but sucked into the world Donna created. It took focus to keep up and figure out what was going on. This is not a standalone and ends in a cliffhanger.
I very much enjoyed reading Heat. The writing is great and the story flows well. It's told in multiple POV's.

Instead of a medically induced coma, here we have a magically induced coma. I think it would be more enjoyable to the reader if they read some more of the previous books to provide answers to some of the back story.

This one is the latest in the Dragon Kings series and has plenty of action and romance. Donna Grant integrates the story of her main couple, spinning steamy scenes and battles with equal skill and continues to build on the multiple crossover series of the world she created while still keeping all the characters interesting and integral to the overall mysteries.

Good story. I highly recommend you read the previous books before this since events from those stories are mentioned frequently. I am on the fence as to whether Ulrick is going to turn out to be a bad guy or a good guy. Right now I am leaning towards him being on the side of good in the end. I keep reading to find out what is going to happen with him.

Interesting main story line but there were so many smaller stories to keep track of that it took some of the enjoyment out of reading jumping around so much.

I love, love, love Donna Grant -- her books sweep me off to somewhere fantastic, usually with someone incredibly hot and this one is no different. Nikolai is a Dragon King and he doesn't really want to be around anymore; he would love to be in his mountain away from all the nonsense. But Esther needs help only he can provide so he agrees to help and, as they say, it is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

These books should really be read in order to enjoy all of the interaction and recurring characters but could be read as a standalone if you insist -- it is just that good. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy and enjoyed the diversion immensely.

DNF. While I have enjoyed other novels by this author, this book did not resonate on any level with me. I found it slow and boring. While I truly tried to finish it as it was an ARC, I could not stay with the story of the Dragon Kings. The mystery of the druid, nor the non existent "heat" between them, could make me finish it. This obviously was not for me. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.

Esther can't remember what happened after the Druid took over her mind. She can't sleep until she knows what she did while under another person's control.
Nikolai has a gift of drawing. He can remember everything he sees and draw it perfectly. Another part is that when he has a connection with someone he can draw what they have seen.
So they both head to London to try to find the Druid and have her give Esther her memories back. While there they find out things about Esther and Henry that was hidden when they were born. This information has led to more questions. As well as more anger on Henry's side of things.
More information on Ulrik and Mikkel as well as the druid Eilish is in this book too.
I love this series and am looking forward to Ulrik's story coming up next!

I just LOVE how all the parties have interacted in this fabulous episode. Esther and Nicholai are the epitome of the romance of mates and their journey has been awesome. So glad that there has been movement forward for Rhi and I can foresee that Usail will be having a meet with Karma! It's so much more complete when the Warriors Druids Fae Kings and Reapers are a part of the bigger picture. I cannot wait to find out what is brewing with the Druids. Still an AVID fan!

Received from Netgallery.

Great story overall but there are many small stories throughout the book to keep up with so you just have to focus on the details. Overall it was well written and intriguing, keeps the reader interested from start to finish.

However if your new to the series, I’d make sure to start with the other books first or it will be confusing and probably not make much sense.

Another perk is that who can resist yummy Dragons!! Definitely worth the read!!

I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of Heat.

The next Dragon King’s book delivers so much. Ulrik is looking less and less like the villain (YAY), Rhi had some devastating blows emotionally in this one, and guess what, Con was the one there for her! Nikolai and Esther were great together. Their passion and chemistry were awesome on the page.  The plot was great. The conflict was strong. The dynamic of how things are progressing was flawless in this one. Loved it. I feel so bad for Rhi; she can’t seem to get a break at all. So excited with where the series is heading and what is in store next.

Donna Grant immediately throws you into a world full of fantasy and lore with this book. Immediately welcomed by many characters, the book takes off running. There are so many storylines in addition to the main one. This isn't to say that the main story line isn't given attention, the author makes sure that the side characters aren't just cardboard characters. They are filled with emotions, their own opinions, and their lives while still adding to the depth of the story. If you love dragons and romance and Ireland (!) and myth and lore and fantasy and just a damn good time....pick up this book.

Nikolai would do anything to protect Esther. Righting the wrongs of her past and helping her regain her memories was a thought that run rampant in his actions. Regaining what the Druid took from her would allow her the peace to sleep instead of being he;d prisoner by the fear that would consume her. Light and Dark fight for power and betrays come to light. Great story! My first book of the series.

Great story that answers our many questions while creating new ones. I love the direction that Donna is taking Esther and Henry. Henry deserves his grand part just as much as his sister deserves her love. This book to me seems a very important one for all it reveals and it definitely keeps you wanting more.
