Author J. California Cooper is an awesome short storyteller but her novels are somewhat sad. Toward the end of the story I became somewhat bored wishing Myine & Herman would just get together already but overall I enjoyed reading this novel. Great life lesson told on page 208!

Continued success Ms. Cooper!

Once again, my girl Ms. Cooper has done it again. She can do no wrong in my eyes :-) When's her next book coming out? If you like Ms. Cooper's writings at all, you won't be disappointed. I love how her books leave you thinking, smiling & filled w/just a little more love in your heart.

This is a very interesting story. I enjoyed how so many lives were touched by one another's.
This author once again writes a story that keeps my attention. I would truly recommend this book to older adults that have given up on having a love relationship because they believe they are too old. Put God first and it will happen.

Like many others, I love J. California Cooper's writing. She is a wonderful storyteller. Life is Short But Wide is text-book CC with one exception: the prostelitizing for a particular religious domination in the last chapters. I was completing caught off guard and saddened by it. The zealot preachiness made me feel hoodwinked, bamboozled, and as a result, soured for me what had been a really great read. Of course, I'll read her again, but next time, I'll read the last chapter first. Let the church say, AMEN.

Its a 90 something black woman telling the story of her family's past to explain about love and it comes across very childish instead of a simple black woman and who the heck tells about the sex in the bedroom between relatives or friends in a story like this?!? I mean if it had been left to the imagination it would have been okay but to be graphic just didn't fit imo. Then near the end it is so drawn out it got boring to read and repeatative like the author was trying to stretch it out. Plus if you're gonna try and use a southern black accent use more than just two or 3 words like rut for but and blive for believe. Doesn't even sound southern!

I have been a devoted J California Cooper fan forever. In the past I have devoured her books the moment they hit the store. I was somewhat disappointed by her previous book but this book was a GREAT disappointment. I would probably buy her next book just because I love J California Cooper but if is this bad again...I'll have to move on...
