this book is a great informational tool for newly naturals. its great that the author is unbiased, in that she does not promote particular hair products or brands. she simply provides information on different techniques.

My hair has been natural (chemical free) for 6 months and I thought this book would provide the information I need regarding how to manage and take care of natural (chemical free) hair. The information provided in this book was useful but I already knew most of the information from blogs and YouTube. If you have no clue about hair this book is a good resource.

Once you read, highlight and dissect this "novel", you will find some useful tips. I was disappointed that the book lacked pictures or how to sketches. Chicoro talks the whole time and leaves those visually learners in the dark. Words are great, but a how to book should always come with photo illustrations. You can tell me how to lay tile, or stuff a turkey with words but photos are priceless in my opinion.

This is an excellent book. I learned to minimize breakage by reading this book. Breakage and excessive dryness were huge issues for me. I now have minimal breakage. For exammple, I mostly finger detangle my hair and I always use the baggie method to aid in moisturizing my hair. I no longer experience the dryness which was causing me to experience lots of breakage. Thanks to Chicoro my knowledge base regarding growing Afro-textured hair has grown significantly.

I bought this book a couple months ago and wanted to try the steps out for a while before I wrote a review. I learned some unique techniques that has helped to inhibit damage to my hair. Four years ago, I stopped using relaxers and had my hair cut to the nap of my neck. Since then, I've grown it to about 5 inches past my collar bone and I would always get compliments about my hair. When it wouldn't grow any longer, I just assumed that was all I was going to get and I'd better be thankful for that! But, this book has opened my eyes to some of the things I was doing to damage my hair as well as the things I was doing right to maintain the length I had. Knowledge is definitely power and I've set a new goal of retaining at least 2 additional inches each year using the steps from this book.

Update 09/16/2013: just wanted to follow up regarding my progress. I was able to grow my hair past my bra strap at an even length, which is what my original goal was based on. But I must admit, I haven't kept up with all the advice this book offers. Why, because it's too time consuming to do so. I had to find a way to incorporate some of the techniques while still having a hectic schedule. For instance, Co-washing is mandatory, but I only section and braid my hair one in a while. So, I really think this book is a great reference (especially for us curly girls). Each person just has to find a regime that fits their schedule. I recommend doing all the steps initially for several months just to get things going. Trust me, it's worth it!!

book delivered in advance, in a perfect state, thank you! the book itself is quite informative but can leave you frustrated: I would suggest to register on her website for weekly tips and read everything you can find on hair care blogs, forums, various & multiple websites,...

I picked this book amongst a few other AA haircare books b/c of the title. I'll be honest...I want healthy hair but I also want to know how I can grow it too :) This book was exceptional and VERY thoroughly put together. I just wished the author had a few pictures or examples of her hair to go by. Otherwise, it's a great book. Get your highlighter out b/c you will want to take notes on these tips!

This is the most informative and encouraging book I've found to date on the subject of growing and caring for afro textured hair. The presentation is intelligent, thought provoking and explains in detail exactly why our hair must be tended with absolute care if it is to flourish. I'm about to read it a second time to make sure I haven't missed anything. Looking forward to seeing more from this author!

I enjoyed this book. It was very informative about the care for natural hair. I have always been off and on transitioning. I think that was because when my natural hair grew to shoulder length I was unable to care for it, e.g., washing, combing, tangling, etc. -- you get the picture:) Following the suggestions and routines Chicoro gives my hair is manageable and I will never go back to relaxer again!

Very informative. The author used a common sense approach to retaining hair length that I wished I myself thought of sooner. I wish the author used more examples or used pictures in the book especially when she referenced something. I cut the relaxer out of my hair and wear my hair in low afro until it grows back and the author recommmends using a spray bottle filled with moisturizing solution and use daily. I tried this method on my hair and to my surprise my hair is very soft and curly. And I have tried another method on my daughter's natural hair in regards to not using any heat such as a blow dryer and applying a moisturing and oil based solution to hair, then braid and allowed to air dry and that method turned out to be more drying and full of tangles than if i had used a blow dryer on their hair. So I guess like everything else it is a trial and error. Overall I would recommend this book, some information is better than none at all.

This is a great book! Very informative and detailed. The routine is simple to execute and doesn't confine you to specific products and brands. She rarely even mentions a specific product and because of this, the Grow It routine can be started immediately. No need to wait until you go out and buy products.

Chicoro has cut through the clutter and written a book that calls naturals to return to a simplified routine to achieve maximum results (length and health) and not let your hair care rule your life.

This book is very informative and easy to read. I have been implementing the suggestions of the author, particularly in detangling my hair and dividing it into sections prior to washing and washing my hair while it is still braided. I find that my hair still gets clean and it is easy to manage.

I received the book from the store yesterday and I have already read it from cover to cover. This is a powerful little book that is very easy to read. It offers a common sense approach to a healthy hair journey, no matter what the hair type or texture. I appreciate the fact that the writer Chicoro doesn't claim to have any shortcuts, or mysterious secrets to growing long hair. It's all common sense and dedication. The key formula for growth is to make sure that the hair remains healthy. Healthy hair don't break off, and hair that don't break off retain length. And that's what I got from the book. There were so much I didn't know about detangling, cleansing, moisturizing and protecting that if this book was available to me two years ago on my first attempt at natural hair, I would have already reached my goal and achieved my desired length. This book is a comprehensive guide to all aspects of hair care. Thank you Chicoro for pouring so much into this book. It is sure to change the way people care for their hair, and help them achieve their hair goals. And may this book find its way in the hands of all Afro-Textured hair sisters.

I brought the book after reading most of the reviews of this book. I brought it and read it cover to cover and tried to implement her methods. My hair is coarse (or type 4B) and extremely thick and when I tried to wash my hair in the braids, my hair unravelled whenever I poured the mixture on it. Also, for my hair type, her detangling methods make sense but I spent at least 4 hours just on detangling alone. If you have hair that is similar to the author's or your hair is fine, I think this book will better suit you.

I found the information thoughtful and informative. I have begun implementing many of the techniques suggested. It will take a little time to see the results but I am hopeful. They made sense. Maybe I'll write another review six months from now. Then I can report on the results.

I recently purchased this book after stalking Chicoro's fotki online and being amazed at how healthy her hair looks. After reading and implementing the methods that are described in the book, I have noticed how healthy my hair has become in a matter of weeks. My coworkers even commented on how nice my hair looks and there's a waiting list to borrow the book. The tutorials online are a great addition to the book because reading is one thing and seeing really drives it home. But overall this was a very informative read.

Good information for those that are wanting to go natural. I am currently 6months post relaxer and am transitioning to natural. This book helps you to deal with your hair the proper way, how to moisturize, deep condition and co-washing.

My item was shipped on time and would highly recommend this book to anyone that are transitioning or thinking about going natural with their hair.

I found this book to be very interesting and informative. She not only gives the technique, but the science behind it. She is very thorough and this is definitely a book I will be referring back to a lot.
This is a wonderful book for anyone thinking about going natural or who is already natural- a real keeper!

I had been scouring the internet and book stores for books on how to maintain and take care of naturally tight curly hair to no avail. Then I heard about this book on youtube and stuck gold. This book is full of great tips and ideas for people who are trying to figure out what to do with their hair after deciding not to process it anymore.

I enjoyed reading this book, but I was disapointed that the author did not provide any pictures to further demonstrate all of the steps that she mentions in her book. Any book on natural hair really needs picture examples!

I think this book has some good information in it but it is poorly written. It is VERY repetitive and has qualities of a children's book, which made it hard to get through for me. The author has like 50 one-page "chapters", which I found terribly annoying. She then separates these 1-2 page "chapters" into parts, which I found unnecessary.

I got the impression that she needed to fill the book with something so that she could sell it and make money off of it. Consequently it is full of a lot of fluff. If you can exercise patience, however, you'll find a couple of good pieces of information in the text. I appreciated that the book gave techniques for better hair care rather than encouraging the reader to purchase particular products and tools.

Book waaaaay to scientist. Almost like the author copied and pasted from google. Such a waste of money for me. I hate that I threw away money over something that I could have googled. Too much science to the point that I didn't want to finish the book. She didn't articulate well, and the execution was horrible. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR SOMETHING USEFUL
