Great, great, great. I work with clients who deal with a lot of shame (whether or not they are initially aware of it) and I recommend this book. I love John Bradshaw, and would probably recommend anything written by him (although I have not fully read all of his books, yet). He's pretty solid.

This book is a powerful analysis of the sources of toxic shame. No holds barred! After working through the tears and hard stuff, the reader feels a sense of hope and a transformation from victim to victor.

This book has been around for a long time, offering real help to people. The latest revision, which I got, offers a self-help approach that's been modified somewhat as a result of feedback from reader's experiences with the first edition. A sound book when it first came out, it's even better now.

I'd definately recommend this book. It has changed my life and helped me realize the shame I felt wasn't my fault, it was transferred to me as a child. After discovering this, I was able to release the shame and it feels great!

A good preparation preliminary to individual or group therapy. There is no single approach that fits all, but Bradshaw has done an immense amount of work on himself and on developing an understanding of the causes and nature of the emotional wounds left by a "normal" childhood. So few children receive the love and understanding that we all need. The consequences are there for all to see.

This book should positively change your life. It did for me since it very clearly helped me understand what is low self esteem. This book certainly competes against all the combined knowledge my parents taught me. No matter what religion you believe in, this will help you more than religion - hands down.

The concepts are clearly presented. My only gripe is that I thought it implied AA was the only way to go. However, I found other ways to recover. It was one of the best, recommended by an excellent psych.

Solid explanations of shame-based characteristics and practical methods to resolve them. This book moves through being densely physical to light and reverent towards the self. I definitely felt as if I've come out the other side of the tunnel after reading this one. Highly recommend!

The intent was there but the execution was horrible. I have seen John Bradshaw seminars on stage and they were electrifying so naturally I thought he would bring the same energy to the CD but it was a total letdown. I guess he couldn't recreate the same intensity in the studio.
The Cd was actually a DVD but I didn't see the point in it. The visual only showed the list of chapter. That's it. I was expecting a Pdf or something that you could follow along with our some more detail topics. Nothing.
Overall I was no better off at the ending of this long CD/DVD than before when I bough it. All he did was talk about a million type of shame but Zero solutions. I get it that shame is like a tree that has many roots spreading out from the main source but the title said "Healing the Shame" not Listing the shame.

Healing the Shame that Binds You (Recovery Classics)
This book is well written and contains up to date research. It may be difficult to understand if you haven't had any previous exposure to therapy or psychology.

This book was excellent in describing toxic shame and how it affects us humans in all our relationships with others. It . explains how we behave the way we do. Most importantly it inspires hope that no matter what we have been through there is a way to recovery.from the shame that binds us.

Awesome book. The first Bradshaw book that I have read and I find his style to be easily understandable and relatable. I appreciated his reference to others who do similar work such as Alice Miller. I felt as though he encased ideas in ways that summarized a lot of what I have already learned but put even more powerful language on it. Most of all i thought he had an insightful way of shinning light on the face that most people have some kind of shame even when they don't think they do because they view it in only highly traumatic experiences.

In combination with Brene Brown's books on daring bravely, John Bradshaw's book on shame issues is outstanding. I feel that Bradshaw's book is indeed more direct and gritty. However, for me, both Bradshaw's book and Brown's book would be incomplete with out the other. Bottom line. 6 stars!
Thanks Bradshaw and thanks Brene Brown. You work well together.
