This book provides a practical approach to an all to real possibility. You will find yourself thinking about how you would react, and establish ideas on how to prepare for the potentiality. An easy read with a likable character will move you effortlessly to the end of the book and begging for next book for Caden.

Terrorists cripple the U.S. with ground level nuclear detonations in the major cities. It's a struggle then a fight for food. Riots ensue. The protagonist helps whom he can and one is a college girl. There are subplots enough to maintain interest. It's entertaining.

This book is well written and fast paced. The characters are multi-dimensional and not stereotypes or stand-in's for well known modern politicians. As SHTF fiction goes, this is one of the top 5 that I've read. Well worth your time and money.

Very well written solid story. Good characters and great writing.
I'd question the Chinese connection if I didn't know what our current politicians are like :(
Definitely look forward to more from this author!

Excellent story of how Americans deal with their freedom taken away. Reminds me of "Alas Babylon" with a modern twist.
Characters are well written and plot development is excellent. Just finished the first book and immediately bought the second one.

This story was a realistic depiction of the aftermath of a multiple sleeper cell nuclear attack on our nation. It pits sovereignty and the constitution against an expedient invasion and loss of freedom in a believable way.

Drama, action and family are woven into the story with realism and the author did a great job showing what could happen politically without over narration. There are lessons to be learned about the strength of community, being prepared for unxepected events, and the good as well as the evil, that resides in desperate people. Enjoyed the Barter addition and that rapes weren't neccesary to give storyline to females. Great read!

A very interesting story that continues to move along at a nice pace. The story has a strong possibility of what could happen in a grand terrorist attack and how it affects our country and our civilization. A lot of human interest. I liked it well enough to order the sequel "A Time To Endure."

Mr. Pratt knows the area and he knows the military. He also seems to know a lot about people under pressure. He knows how to get readers to care about his 'people'. I very much look forward to starting book 2.

I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next in the series. I enjoy reading apocalyptic fiction simply for the "What would I do?" aspect of it. Good job Mr. Pratt and Thank-you for your service!

I typically like conspiracy books, geo political twists, who done it, action. The political setting makes it very real especially in today's world. This has many elements that kept me interested right from the start. Military detail but not over whelming as to lose a non military guy. This work makes me wonder how I would react in similar circumstances... Whether I would survive the new world order. Need a part two for this story, I believe it's not finished yet. Not very long, easy read, looking forward to trying some of Kyle's other works as well.

I loved the characters. Pratt brought them to life. The story line was fast packed and not bogged down with intellectual details that I usually skip. I can't wait to start the next one. I hope Pratt writes more along these lines.

Pratt has written a well paced tale which hopefully will be followed by a series based on his WELL developed characters in this book. I look forward to a sequel. You'll enjoy this book if you like post apocalyptic survival fiction.

I thoroughly enjoyed Through Many Fires. It is cleanly written and well edited, which is not that common in this genre. It also is free of polemics, also rare. Instead, the protagonist struggles in a realistic way with the likely result in our society of coordinated nuclear terrorism, both on our physical lives and on our politics and culture. This choice of a Chinese antagonist is, I am afraid, all too plausible. I am hoping a sequel (which is promised) will flow quickly from Mr. Pratt.

Mr Pratt's view of a renewed America even against all it faced could be our future.
His writing put you in the scenes he describes and made you feel you were there. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in two days! Looking forward to the sequel.

The author has offered an interesting slant on possible dooms that might occur. The axis of evil between terrorists and the Chinese is a stretch but get past that and the story rolls .Lots of stuff for folks to think about to prepare. Well written if a little shy on character depth. An easy evening read.

This was one of the best, post-apocalyptic survival adventures that I've read! It contained the right blend of military detail, coupled with a very realistic scenario that nearly topples the country. The characters were well developed and interesting....and possessed an element of faith that many authors omit when writing end-of-world adventures. I was sorry to see this one come to an end and hope that we see more (like this) from the author!!

1st brook I've read by this author. Interesting take on the end of civilization as we know it. Towards the end, it became pretty much like was going today. Give it a try, I think you'll like it. Shione912, NC

The author is foreseeing events, or similar ones, which could possibly happen. As American citizens we must keep our attention on the gradual losing of our constitutional rights and the enforcement of them.
