One of my favorite books of the series. Bernard Cornwell keeps surprising me with dramatically well described battles and spectacular strategy, as well as amazing depictions of landscapes, fortresses. .. you must read it.

This is a good but not great next in the series book. If you've read the rest of the Saxon Tales books, this one will hold no real surprise. The main characters are already well known. I was hoping the younger Uhtred or Stiorra or even Sigtryggr would be fleshed out more as major characters.

Unlike the early books of this series, I'm not sure Warriors of the Storm would stand alone very well.

Still exciting, but it lacks some of the tension of earlier books somehow.

If you've been reading the series, it's definitely worth the read however!

Cornwell masters historical novel like nobody else. Story is as gripping as ever, though some topics start being quite recurring and a feeling of already-read before, like the final Shield-wall piece. For fans of the series is a must read, for new readers, would recommend to start with first book and find out if this is your thing before buying this one

I've read all his books, in every series, and I think this one was ghost-written. About half-way through I got the feeling someone else's style was on display. Can't say exactly why but the first thing I noticed was how Uhtred was consistently harsh and rude in dealing with others. The prose style didn't fit.

This is about the third author that I've read regularly that I felt someone else had written the book. This one did not stand up to the others.

Just a great series of books it drags in the reader leaving you caring what happens and where it all ends up. Just watched the first episode of the First Kingdom the new Tv series based on this series, excellent hope it lasts all the way to the end, once again you will not be disappointed in this series of books A+

I EXPECT NOTHING BUT THE BEST FROM CORNWELL. IT IS REALLY A SHAME THAT I CANNOT READ ALL OF HIS BOOKS. I WON'T SPEND MORE THAN $5.99 FOR ANY BOOK AND HIS ARE SO MUCH MORE MONEY. HIS SHARPE BOOKS ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD.

Another masterful story by Bernard Cornwell. Full of battles, twists and adventure. Our hero Uhtred is defiant, proud and fearsome as ever. But, he better take back his beloved Bebbenburg soon as fans like me are beginning to become impatient.

As always, very elegantly written. Uhtred is unstoppable and indispensable to the ruler of Mercia and the King of Wessex. The ongoing rivalry between him and the church serves to add to the charms of the series.

I've been reading Cornwell for years, his writing is like watching a (really good) movie. His "Sharpe" series have been made into tv series for PBS. I hope to see some of these english knight stories filmed soon!

Normally I'd give any of Cornwell's works an enthusiastic 5-star review. However, despite the excellence of the Saxon Chronicles, his books are becoming increasingly shorter. This installment was purchased pre-release - for a whopping $14.99 & now I find the Kindle version has been dropped by $10!
And since I'm grouchy about that, the pages will NOT auto-rotate on my tablet from vertical to horizontal format, which is a pain when you wish to stand the cover up on a flat surface - possible only when the book is horizontal. For the money I paid, the format should jump to any orientation I want & sing Dixie!

I was really disappointed in this book. Uthred is getting a little long in the tooth. Earlier books developed the character. You learned about his early life and the people he met along the way. Now, the main story line is one battle after another . Bernie; you're near the end of the line with this one.

I don't read much at all maybe one book every three years but, I read all the books from the Saxon tales in three weeks. Better than watching game of Thrones! In fact I believe George R. Martin gone many ideas from the Saxon tales.

Waited so long for this book and it didn't disappoint.Loved it.Uhtred was back to his early stamping ground.Seemed to have recovered from his wounds and is strong and fearless as usual.Recommend it to all Bernard Cornwall fans.

I had hoped this would be the final Uhtred book, but it suggests another final one. I probably won't buy the final one. This because these stories have become "formula" 1- Problems. 2- Prepare to lose a battle. 3- Win a battle. It has become tiresome.

One of the books (rather rare event) that ended too fast... I just couldn't put it down. I'm big fan of whole "Warrior" series. Mr. B. Cornwell got me hooked :(. Too bad they failed to transfer the same atmosphere into the movies.
