If you like a good litrpg tale about a character that doesn't instantly become a broken destroyer of worlds while still being tough and powerful with great abilities that put him a bit ahead, this is the book. Read from start to finish without stopping and I have ADHD...enough said.

The second book is as good as the first. This series has the best and most well thought out explanation of how the main character entered the online world. This plot is carried on seamlessly throughout the second book.

As with the first book I especially like building up the village and the characters.

Great story and character progression. I have read most in the genre and this is one of the best. A lot of litrpg is fun but juvenile, this book is a refreshing taste of what captivates me with the genre. I have read dozens of these and this is only the second I've taken the time to post a review. 'Nuff said.

Fantastic book, definitely a great continuation of the first one. Looking forward to the next one. I love the way Shemer is setting the story up in the monster realm and the possible issues the character faces

A great second story, lots of character development and loved the continuing build up of camp and all of the challenges. I couldn’t help myself , I had to read the entire book in one sitting, if you liked the first book, you will love the second. I can not wait for the 3rd.

The first book gave me blue balls, but this one was well done and made up for the first one. Not that the first one was badly done, too much world building then action happened and I wanted more. So I guess he succeeded since I bought this instantly and read as fast as I could. Can't wait for book three! Keep it up Shemer!

This book is wonderful it takes all the things that made the first book good and doubles down. What really sets this book apart though is that even after all of the improvements Shemer Kuznits increased the scope of the book letting us get inside the head of bouth sides. All said I love this book and cannot wait for the next one.

A base building adventure that creates a rather unique look at the litrpg genre. It also is overburdened by the evil video game AI seeking to take over the real world that has become so commonplace in this genre.

I've read alot LITRPG books/ series. This is one of my favorites, in the top 5. Solid protagonist build/ back story, equally solid antagonist, good town & character building. Nothing over powering.

Great follow up. Can't wait for third book. Not loving the dark side but willing to wait out the story line.. Love the city/settlement building and crafting. Shows the grinding dedication all true rpg'ers relish and enjoy. Dedication and work yield results!!

Well written setlement builder type of action rp with the right balance of character building and settlement building seemlessly interwoven into a story whose worse aspect was that it had to end sometime.....Next book please.

If you've ever experienced the world of MMO then this story will hit home, it also is an epic story about a man fighting for his very life against spiteful and greedy gamers xD i'd recommend you give this series a shot because you wont regret it.

Like the subject line says. Excellent book much like the first, but the improvements are obvious. The plot and the character have more life to them. The story itself isn't too much for world this author creates, which makes the storyline more appealing.

Rarely do new authors manage back to back success! So much fun to read! Great story telling! I really do enjoy litrpg but rarely do they manage the core writing and character development so well, keep them coming Shemer!

I literally stayed up all night reading this book. The same way some things press you buttons in just the wrong ways this book pressed mine in all the right ways. 9/10 overall and 10/10 entertainment value.

I gave this book 5 stars because of a serious lack of "monster" perspectives. I was actively looking for this kind of book, and it delivered it in spades. The city building is marvelous, best I've ever read. Could not put it down!

Great for you macro fans out there and solid writing. The genre is going the right direction!

The ritualist which is another book by this author is one of my favorites in the genre. Doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Ok let me explain the headline, the book is almost perfect the plot twists and the bad guys surprises you every step of the way. You can almost feel Oren's desperation and anxiety but he recovers with the help of his faithful companion. For a moment there I was afraid the author was gonna succumb to the cliche of the unstoppable villain mastermind (you know the one where the bad guy is always a step ahead and completely destroys the good guy and his friends) Thank God it was fixed at the end and the conclusion was very satisfying. The only thing I didn't like about the book was it took too much time between the first one an the second book to be written. I've lost interest in other awesome sagas because of that reason, if the book takes more than 6 months to be written you may as well don't write it. With that in mind I hope to see the third book soon.

I could tell it was going to be a favorite as soon as I opened it. I think this book was epic and very descriptive by telling me exactly what was going on all book long.
The bomb on the breeders den was a bit sad in the story but it didn't hinder the fact that (spoiler alert) they won and Vatras was killed and lost 15 levels.
Can't wait for book 3 to come out : ) Have an even bigger review waiting for it ; )
Next book ask: do you think you could make the fake capture Oren so they can get trade routes going bit short… not to short but not like 40% of the book dedicated to it?
That would be awesome : )

EvP picks up straight away and continues character building (literal and figurative) with action that you enjoyed from New Era Online 1.

Dread Totem (Oren) is a human stuck in an online world. He’s also the first human to play a monster race, as they are normally reserved for NPCs. While his body is being cared for in RL, his mind and skills aid him in developing his monster clan with the intent of destroying his nemesis, Vatras, who kicked him out of his thriving guild and inadvertently stuck him in this situation.

In this installment, Oren truly becomes his owm, um, monster. His skills are progressing nicely and his relationships grow substantially. Also, he is aided by new players – actual humans allowed to give the monster race a run (signed NDAs of course).

In addition to the Greenpiece Clan advancement, significant battles occur and with the additional of the aforementioned players comes a mystery. Oren needs to solve that before it is too late!

Personally, I’d like to see more of what Vic-Unleashed could accomplish. He is holding back for sure.

I wouldn’t call the end a cliff-hanger, but it does leave two interesting arcs waiting for the next installment.

Overall, good character development and lots of action.

As a casual reader of this genre, I found some of the development to read slow. However, if you are really into this material, I do think you will find it rewarding.

4.5 of 5 Stars. ARC provided by author.

A great story. The kind of book that keeps you reading, and where you think about what Oren should do next even when you're not reading. If you like LitRPG, get the first book, and then get this one.

The author does a great job of expressing the protagonist's shifting mindset through the words on the page. It's interesting to realize the narrator is getting a little bit delusional (or, okay, maybe a lot delusional) through the narration and the way he thinks about what's going on around him.

And, no spoilers here, but about 1/4 of the way through, I was 95% sure I knew how the book's Big Fights were going to go. I was happy to be totally wrong. Shemer set up some standard storytelling tropes and then twisted right out of them.

Disclaimer- I helped edit this, so I'm slightly biased towards it (also read it multiple times, so...)-

Another exciting installment in the advancement of the grinning greenskinned Overlord!
New challenges arise, some much sooner than you might have expected, due to the overwhelming desperation of his enemies, but each one is surmounted with a combination of skill, timing, assistance from allies both new and old, and a healthy dish of not-unreasonable luck.
Well written, with a skilled mix of both city-building and military exercises, this won't disappoint you!

I may have actually enjoyed the second book more than the first. It kept a good pace throughout and you really root for Bread, I mean Dread Totem. The characters continue to be fleshed out and the background plots about the real world military and the AI's in the game intrigue. Great sequel and I look forward to the series continuing!

Part 2 of a great story! The Character development and world building continues to intrigue and astound me. I'm glad the author didn't take shortcuts when it comes to tracking stats and economics- it's these small things that gets you invested in everything the character does or doesn't do. The fight scenes were epic and and the conclusion very satisfying. Can't wait for book 3!

This book is very well written, I'm really impressed by the author. He managed to write a monstrously long book, 2-3x the length of the average litrpg, while upping the stakes, maintaining a gripping narrative tension, showing clear character growth in the protagonist, having a satisfying conclusion, and leaving a good hook for the sequel.

Definitely a top 3 book in the genre in my opinion. The author is going on my watch list, I look forward not only to his next book, but his next project as well.

Need this as an audiobook! I can’t wait until the next one comes out. Great character and village building with an easy to understand system! It kept my interest from start to finish. A brilliant book from a different perspective !

Once again another great book from Shemer.
Unlike most LitRPGs we actually get to see a settlement being built and everything that goes into it, in a more realistic amount of time. The main character in my opinion lacks the OPness of other books which in turn, to me at least, makes the book more enjoyable. I can't wait for the next one.

I have been reading a bunch of litrpg recently, and have really taken a liking to it. This book (and series) takes it to a whole new level. I won't go crazy in depth or anything, but there's a lot of craziness (literally) and it is a blast to read. Start with book one though. I can't wait till the next one

I've been reading a lot of series under the litRPG umbrella, and I really appreciate how this one takes the traditional MMORPG focus and tweaks it.

If you're here from book 1, I promise it's a fantastic continuation! If you didn't read book 1, I recommend going back and starting from the beginning, but definitely stick around.

The first rule of fiction: It must be believable... This is not.

In a single second, the MC goes from being a human, to believing he is actually a game character.
Out of left field; completely ruined the book.

Have stopped reading, will not continue. Completely unbelievable.
