It was ok to me the story took a little longer than expected to learn about each character history, which happened almost at the end of the book. By the time the book get good it was over, and the little preview I read for the next book don't really hold my interest, sorry didn't like it much.

I wasn't too crazy about this book. Plot was predictable and the love triangle is not my cup of tea. Nixon is one hot mafia guy and he kept my interest. Be aware there is a book 2 and no release date. Will not waste my time to read when it becomes available.

Let me start off by saying that I love this author and I've read many of her books; however this one I tried to like but I failed. Honestly, I think I read a different book than everyone else because I really feel as if I wasted my time and mind space. Halfway through the book, I had no idea what was going on. The author kept dragging the supposedly secret that Nixon was holding from "Farm Girl". As a main character, Nixon pissed me off to no end. If I had a dollar for every single time he cursed or swore while kissing her, if he pinched his nose one more freaking time and if "farm girl" started crying one more time UGHHH...At one point, I just wanted it to end, but when it finally did end (bless her soul), I was sitting over here like "what just happened?" I don't think I want to read the next book because the first one left me too confused. It's not even as if it was a cliffhanger that left you begging to know the rest. NO, it was just a really bad ending that left you thinking: it ended? oh, whatever, finally. The only reason why I'm giving it a 2 star is because I know the author can do much much better.

I had finished reading "The Bet", which I Loved, and saw this book. I figured I should get it and I'm so GLAD I did. I am now trying to wait patiently for the second book. I loved both Nixon and Chase, but leaning towards Nixon. I have a list of my favorite authors and just added Rachel Van Dyken to that list. You will not be disappointed with this book.

1- The main hero was absolutely repulsive. He is a major bully, does horrible things, and says horrible things. Threatens and assaults anyone who annoys him; successfully puts in every effort to humiliate the heroin just because she is new to the college, before he realizes who is she is and remembers that he was always in love with her. Which makes him obsessively paranoid and protective of the heroine in addition to showing extremely controlling behavior.
2- The heroine is repulsive, if nothing else for falling in love the aforementioned hero. He treats her very badly, yet whenever he shows a glimmer of kindness the heroine is on good terms with him, only to cry again the next time he is acting mean. I am shocked at seeing some of the reviews that says the heroine shows backbone by not obeying the Hero's orders. His orders are so ridiculous that no sane person would obey them. "Do not look at the elect. Do not speak to the elect. Do not touch the elect". She puts up with the abuse without showing any resistance, alerting the authorities, or, withdraw from college. Her loved ones treat her like an object to be protected without asking her opinion or consent on anything, which she seems perfectly content with. With all the abuse she puts up with, the one that takes precedence in her mind is that she is assigned to eat in a vegan cafeteria.
3- The plot is very unrealistic. The hero acts like he owns the entire city, which is kind of true, but even super rich business owners do not act this way. At least they don't hang around in college and be a part of student life to terrorize others or exercise control. They also definitely would not bother controlling who eats at which cafeteria, or who gets to be allowed to use the elevator once a week.

The plot itself is stolen from Twilight, where seemingly ordinary girl starts new school, and catches the attention of the mysterious "hottie". The difference is that in this plot the hottie is a complete jerk; and instead of abandoning the girl "to protect her" like Edward did, he throws insults at her whenever he gets the chance.

Holy Hell!!! Rachel has seriously out done herself with this one! Trace gotta love her through all this and Monroe loved her from the start! Now onto the guys.... Nixon is amazing and so is Chase but I love Nixon more lol This book was amazing and there was so much going on I couldn't put it down! Between figuring out all the secrets and watching Nixon and Trace grow I thought I was going to lose it. This book is amazing and you won't be disappointed!!!

After reading The Bet, by Rachel Van Dyken, my interest was piqued so I went in search of another of her books and came across Elite. Oh. My. Gosh. I couldn't put it down, I finished it in just 2 days!! I love the story line with the mystery and intrigue and the characters are lovable and real. I'd love to read Chase' s story and maybe one for Monroe too!! Kudos Ms. Van Dyken, I can't wait for Elect to be released!! (And The Wager too!!!!)

Okay...trying to catch my breath here, calm my heart rate and just.....breath(sigh). If I could give a book 10 stars this would be the book. I was literally on pins and needles reading this story. This is a must read and I can not wait to see what happens to Trace and Nixon!

I was so excited when I got the ARC in my email. I couldn't wait to read it and after I started I couldn't put it down.

It was definitely a roller coaster ride. Trace getting accepted to an exclusive college and upon arriving meets the Elite and is introduced to all their rules. Let the ride begin. Absolutely loved Nixon -- he grows on you after you get to know him and understand him better. Loved Chase too.

This is definitely a book I will re-read -- twice and counting.

I can't wait until the next book is out.

FYI -- For those who are more sensitive - there is some language in this book.

When I got this I thought it was an ADULT, mature romance?? But my mistake ... were in High School (at least it seems that way) which is why there are so many positive reviews. There is only one review which I wish a saw before purchasing this book which stated this is Twilight in a Private College, corny dialogue, teen hazing, and so much CRYING.

SPOILERS

This book just really was confusing, we are left in the dark as to who everyone is for more than half the book, and why the administration would take direction on every aspect of daily life from what we are left to assume is an average 20 something Class President named NIXON.

Trace is dropped off at Eagle Elite a Private College by her grandfather she meets class President ELITE Nixon, and Chase. She is then insulted and basically told never to speak to an Elite unless they speak to her first.... then meets her roommate Morriana (MO). And for about 6-10 chapters she is basically treated like the dumb, hick, from the FARM.

Ok, so who the HECK are these people ???!!!! Why would a 20 something determine where you eat, what you eat, who speaks to you, who you can speak to ?? We are left in the dark for MOST of the book, it's ridiculous there is no foundation, no prologue to get you to understand who are what this is all about. Why if your the NEW GIRL who can't speak to the ELITE, be allowed to eat in a private dinning room ? Have the ELITE President buy you a PRADE bag, with about 6 SUV's of security following again were not told why... this book just left me asking WHY every other page, it made NO sense, the cemetery for Trace and Nixon was there but I just couldn't get past WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE it didn't endear them to me it just made me MAD, I felt like half the story was missing.

BIG SPOILER !! Ok so who are they.. well NIXON at just 20 something has taken over his fathers businesses (lots of them worth BILLIONS) he's also "connected" and is the top boss in Chicago. Trace is the daughter/granddaughter of the 3rd ranked boss, her father having been killed some 10 years ago in a hit. As children Nixon and Trace were friends, as their parents were associates, but Nixon's father blamed Trace father for a falling out, it is unknown who placed the hit on Trace family.
After all to twists and turns Nixon and Trace's grandfather tell her who she is and that she must never tell anyone who she really is. Of course this doesn't really protect her and she is assaulted and almost killed. Nixon, Chase, and her grandfather save her and the family believed to be apart of her families murder is found out, or NOT... so we now wait for the next book or NOT !!!! Not worth waiting for it just seems to contrived, the MAFIA has it's own college? I can't express how dumb this all sounds.

Positives: snarky dialogue, interesting twist, sexy characters
Negatives: Trace, Nixon, Chase, Monroe = Bella, Edward, Jacob, Alice; Sicilians = Voltari, in other words, a bit too familiar, lacking genuine originality

From the cover picture, and from reading the book description, I had a whole different idea of what this story might be about. The two main characters were unappealing in pretty much every aspect. He was abusive from the start, and she put up with it - this was junior high behavior rather than supposed college-aged behavior in that privately-owned college from he//. I kept hoping it would get better, but...it didn't
And the small preview of the next book in the series made me roll my eyes; not interested in pursuing this series at all.

This has to be one of the worst books I have ever read. It was all over the place. Very jumbled. Made hardly any sense at all. I didn't even want to give it one star. I tried to get into it but it was just so ridiculous I couldn't.

You have to suspend disbelief, or be pretty darn young, to get into this plot. I can see how the overall premise is decent, but a 20 year old "hero" who is all knowing and all powerful both within the school and in the outside world is a stretch. He's running billion dollar businesses but likes to hang out at school and bully the new girl?! Come on. He dated Taylor Swift but this whiny, weak, water pot of a heroine is just soooo special that he forgoes everything to decide when and where she gets to eat?

In an attempt to make everything and everyone else believable the author makes the heroine as weak she could while allowing her to walk upright and in a straight line. Maybe the author watched too many Korean TV dramas because only there do you have the heroine get routinely abused and bullied without any push back. If anything, this book does not support how a bullied girl can become strong; in no substantial way does Trace stand up for herself. I'm not saying that she needs to flay other students with caustic wit (an overdone trait from heroines in many books these days), or walk the school halls with a bow and arrow drawn. I'm saying that there should be a message that a bullied girl can fight back and protect herself when Hero 1 and Hero 2 are unavailable.

***sigh*** You can miss reading this book and lose nothing. It's a retread of many other books with a small twist.

** spoiler alert **

This novel, to put it nicely, was a complete confusing mess, starting out with promise and then derailed so quickly, my head was spinning.

I am not really sure where I will begin.... I will try not to spoil anything but I just have to rant.

Tracey Rooks just won some big lottery and got into this 'elite' school. Dropped off by gramps, she is greeted very poorly by the 'popular kids'. In fact, she is treated like complete sh*t, and brought to tears by the horrible reception.

Fast forward 1.5 weeks, and the same guy that did this to her not only is looking at her with adoring eyes and would take a bullet for her, but she is utterly and completely head over heels.

Bulls**t

Gawd, it was too damn much. I love romance like most gals, and I will even put up my hand and actually ADMIT that I enjoyed the Twilight series, but this was at nauseum! I needed a bucket for the pukefest that ensued reading this ridiculous lovey dovey dialogue... and not quite understanding how we went from this girl being shredded apart, to her being wooed this way. I know that I, for one, would have lifted my middle finger to this guy over and over and over again. Stockholm syndrome anyone??

The whole entire mystery surrounding her identity was just ridiculous. And frankly there was so much lead up that I thought she was the princess of Monaco or something.. uhmmm I guess in some circles maybe she would be close to the equivalent... but it was just kind of silly, honestly... And then to find out that both Tracey and Nixon were THE BEST of friends as children, just blew my mind. I have friends that I left behind in my home country when I came to Canada as a child, and I can assure you I still remember their names and what they looked like. To be that close to someone and completely not remember them (especially a guy named Nixon, how many of those are around??) a few years later is crazy to me. It was almost like this girl had blocked a part of her life completely out, but with no confirmation of amnesia or why she wouldn't remember not only this guy, but the house she grew up in, and even her last name?

Again, Bulls**t

The ending of this novel did not make it more satisfying. In fact it just pissed me off more. It was just utterly convenient that a family war would have started off in that fashion. Furthermore, to give this girl the option of making a decision as to whether someone lives or dies felt so farfetched, even in that lifestyle. She had just 'found out' whose granddaughter she was and she's being called on to make those kinds of decisions already?

And just to digress a little. What was so 'elite' about this school? I seriously have no freaking clue.

I was happy to end this book. I wanted to end it sooner but kept hoping that it would turn around somehow, somewhere... Nope!

That being said, there are many positive reviews out on this book and its series. I clearly do not share those opinions.

I seldom give out 1 stars, but this one was totally and completely not for me. However, there is enough positive feedback that I am clearly in the minority, so if you feel that it's for you, and you are curious about it, give it a go. Just don't say that I didn't warn you!

Thank you to Netgalley, publisher/author for the copy of the novel for an honest review. I received no compensation, and all opinions are 100% my own.

Elite is book one in the Eagle Elite series and is a NA/Romance written by Rachel Van Dyken.

The Review:
First off let me say, when I hit that last page in this book, I could look back at this read as a whole and think, "wow, that was pretty great!". But if I was to form an opinion after only the first three chapters, then the next few chapters and then some more after that, I would have said, "wth? I'm so confused and this book makes No. Sense. AT. ALL!" So my suggestion, read it in full before forming a complete opinion. Now, on to the review...

Story...
I enjoyed this read and it kept me coming back, even though I wanted to pull my hair out because I just didn't understand the things happening and it was riddled with plot holes! From the moment it starts, its a confusing mess of characters, events and secrecy that left me scratching my head. We get tidbits all along of where the story is headed, who the characters are and at about 35% into the book, I had a light bulb moment, where everything started to click. I began to understand where the story was headed, but what I didn't understand, was why would a person stay and endure that kind of torture at a place she had no allegiance to. I think there should have been something added to ensure the fortitude of the characters choice to stay other than stubbornness. I mean it was an elective college, not compulsory high school.

The overall conflict was well done but there were so many times I thought, why did that happen and why would any character stay to endure that kind of abuse.

I have a Spoiler Rant at the end of this review if you're curious what I question as sever plot holes.

If you break the book down and really start to questions the events, things don't make a whole lot of sense, there are a ton of plot holes and things seem to fall into place to easily and I would have given it a much lower rating. But just sitting back and enjoying it for what it is as a whole, I really kind of liked it!

Quick Character Rundown...
Nixon, aka Satan!, has me completely conflicted. One minute he's cruel and horrific in both actions and the things he says and the next he's charming, caring and protective. But then he turns his glare on you and he's cold and heartless once more. I totally had a Love/Hate relationship going with his character. His past is steeped in abuse and pain and you can't help but feel for him once everything is spelled out. However, when remembering all the things he did, you also can't help but picture what his body parts would look like ground to bits by a sledge hammer!

Trace is a sweet character who is innocent and caring and her time at Elite for the most part was grisly. I understand her determination and grit to find a place amongst the Elite's, to prove she's just as good as they are but WHY did she keep taking Nixon's hand? The push-pull in that dynamic was horrible and the things he did were severe! She just kept coming back for more of his abuse and didn't really stand up for herself. He'd hurt her, she'd cry, he'd come back with some sort of offer of help and she'd jump right on it. I felt there needed to be more resistance and after all he did, he needed to WORK for her trust.

Chase, oh how I LOVED him. Our introduction to him isn't pleasant but he more than makes up for it as he goes out of his way to help and protect Trace. He's sweet and kind to the people he cares about but can be cruel and heartless to those who he thinks are being disrespectful and it only made him hotter to see his sweet side and then experience his rough side. He genuinely cares for Trace and I thought he deserved better than to be used as an escape and then thrown to the side when he wasn't needed anymore. The only thing about his character that didn't make sense to me was why did he help Phoenix that night at the party? That was totally out of character for him, especially given what happened to Phoenix who acted outside Nixon's orders. If Chase knew it wasn't what Nixon wanted, why did he go along with it? Plot hole!

As for the Elite groupies...that school need a good extermination!

The Wrap Up:
Certain things definitely needed better explanation because by the time it was all said and done, there were more questions than there were answers. But overall, the story was good and kept me reading if not wondering and questioning. In all honesty, I'm intrigued enough to move on to book two when it's released.

NOTE: A gifted copy was provided for an honest review by Forever (Grand Central Publishing) through NetGalley.

I've re-read this book more than once. Rachel Van Dyken likes to rip your heart apart and put it mostly back together again! Trace is a scholarship student at Eagle Elite and Nixon is in charge. He rules with an iron fist and doesn't like little country girls fighting their place in his world. Since Trace is his sister's roommate she's thrust even farther into his world even as she tries to avoid him and The Elect. As Trace finds out more about who she is, she is accepted by Mo, Nixon's sister and Chase, Nixon's best friend, and right hand. Nixon and race fight how they feel about each other and when they finally come together lives are in the balance and Trace's world turns upside down! Trace's grandfather reveals secrets right along with Nixon and everything Trace thought she knew is now turned on it's head and her life is in danger. Can Nixon make things right or does pushing her away cost him everything? As he fights for them Trace is left feeling alone and hurting without knowing why. Chase and Mo step in and help her through. Friends turn to foe and enemies to lovers in the first book of Rachel Van Dyken's Eagle Elite series.

Gahhhh!! Nixon and Tracey, where to start?! ok , I seen a facebook post for Eulogy release date. I read the description to Eulogy , and It looked so darn good. I went to my the store and pulled up this series the description to all these series and the covers, and the fact they are mafia romance. I one clicked EVERY book in the Eagle Elite series. And I pre-ordered Eulogy. I paid $4.99, Worth it no. I also understand the author needs to be paid for their hard work. But a reader should be happy with the book. Especially for that price.
Before I start complaining, I have to say that I have read Rachel Van Dyken seaside series. And I did enjoy them. So when I seen she had a mafia romance, I did not waste no time one clicking. I will have to say I definitely thought it would of been more.
This is unlike any mafia romance I read. I do not know if the author did research before she decided to write this. I do hope since this is the first book. I do hope the other books in this series improves.
At the beginning , I want to quit reading. I mean no disrespect . I always , And I really do mean Always leave my honest thoughts on reviews. Because I always look at reviews before I purchase a book. Only the ones I one click on. And every book I seen in this series has so many five stars.
Now , back to what I was saying. In the beginning I wanted to stop reading this. The characters in college, And what is very frustrating is that , They sound like a bunch of high school kids. I would say maybe 12th graders picking on freshman ( 9 th graders) And Nixon's attitude , the way he talks to her, the way he treats a woman , Is really making me so mad, I can not enjoy the read. And the fact that Tracey is so scared. She seems weak to me. As I said I have read plenty mafia romance. And love mafia romance. The tough alpha male, The hot sex scenes. The jealousy males. The protector. I have not seen any of this yet, again still at the beginning. I always write my reviews as I read,( spoiler ) Usually mafia men, protect the female they love. and if they are aggressive , It is in the bedroom spanking that booty. I said this , because there is a incident where Nixon and Tracey is dancing , as the song was coming to an end, Nixon pushes her away, she stumbles but catches her self. So far this sounds more like a middle school bully, Not college kids, or mafia romance. Then after this people was starting to throw food at her head, again college kids? really? mafia ? really ? I so want to stop reading this. I have to, because I paid to much money not to. Oh lord help me through this series!
I also do not like the whole broke, poor, begging, needy plot for Tracey's character. That has to go!
As the book goes on, The plot is worse. Key cards for lunch. Nixon is teaching. What about college kids working. I can not help being so mad. I really do hope the other books are not like this. If they are I completely wasted my money.
It made it out that Tracey was supposed to be really closed to her grandfather, The crazy part is I am almost half way through the book, and she just spoke to him, and only a few sentences. I think this story plot is broken,
Chapter 20 and still not sex scenes. I have read some kissing. and a complete turn around on Nixon character. he is sweet and romantic now, making up for the a whole side., I think Nixon character is growing on me a little , Still Thought the story would have been more. I am 33 years old and this feels like some teenager stuff.
chapter 26 - at least Tracey is not poor. But the story is still weak . I am sorry for raging in this review. I wanted to say a lot more then what I actually did. I can not help it. I am so mad, so disappointed. I wasted my money on this series. I read mafia romance that were kindle unlimited and better then this. This is not no mafia romance. Reviewers need to be honest. Stop leaving five star reviews and boosting a book up to be good , when it is not! If you got an arc copy tell the truth! You can speak the truth with out being rude. Or writing amazing 5 star reviews, because it is one of your favorite authors. SPEAK THE TRUTH ... so mad I wish I read this before I bought the whole series,

Wow just wow!! I'm completely blown away! I just knew this book was gonna be good. But it was better than good it was phenomenal! If you like stuff like the Godfather (which I do it's actually my favorite movie) and mix it with the movie Shes all that, well there you go it's the only way I can describe it from that angle but holy mother! The tension, the danger the lust God it was sizzling and sparking from the build up of lust and it was chock full of emotions. It was perfect! I've truly never read anything like like it! It was impossible to put down! I read it straight through cover to cover! Simply put, I devoured it! And my god I want more!! I'm completely fascinated and so mad at myself that I didn't find and read this sooner. Trust me when I say just get them all at once because once you read the first one you are definitely gonna want the next and the next and so on! Phenom read! Author Rachel Van Dyken definitely knows how to get your blood pumping and keep you completely held captive by her written word! shes a literary genius!!

This book was packed full, I feel like I read about a years worth of the characters lives not just weeks. At the start of the book I did not like any of the guys in the story, they were egotistical jerks, I loved Monroe. Later you get to know the guys more, come to an understanding of why some of them behaved the way they did and start warming toward them. Phoenix is really screwed up, his is sneaky and is part of some transactions that are horrible. I know he is treated so badly by his father but so is Nixon, not an excuse for all the terrible things he does in this book. I hate the semi triangle between three of the characters, I wanted to skip over all of it. When we learn of Nixon’s past and the connection with another character I could not stop crying. The action seems like it is only getting started, going to start reading the next book right away.

Overall: 4.5 Stars

Wow! This book was totally addictive. I've had this on my kindle for a while, and finally took the plunge. But now that I've started this series, I'm hooked! And I'm so glad I decided to buy the other books in this series, because I'm going to fly through them.

So what's ELITE all about? It's the mafia, new adult style. It's secrets and lies. It's the push and pull of attraction and trust. It's a world turned upside-down. We've got friends, family, enemies or a crazy mix of all of the above. We've got painful humiliation combined with tender feelings and saucy humor. We've got violence and mayhem, but also calculated control and commendable sacrifice. Questionable choices? Yes. Irreparable choices? Unfortunately, yes. Heartache? Another yes. Combine that with exciting writing, and you've got the makings of insta-love. No, not insta-love between the book's characters. I'm talking insta-love between me and this series!

We've also got hardcore fascinating characters. Trace is entertaining and brave, yet vulnerable and honest. Nixon is practically bipolar, walking the line of psycho and sweet. And Nixon's group of Elite are just itching for their own books, because each is so unique and engrossing on their own. What makes these guys tick? What is the good and bad in them? What, if any, are their redeeming qualities? And when you see how it all unfolds, you might feel a little crazy alongside these guys. If I were Trace, I might have pulled a gun on them myself. This life is not easy. Not by a long shot. But oh so captivating. I stayed up until 2am to finish it, despite my early travel plans the next day. I just couldn't stop. And then I immediately wanted to start the next book. And the next. And the next.

This is the first book in the Eagle Elite series, where you meet Nixon and Trace. I read the books out of order, so I am reading them again and catching up on the ones I missed. This one I hadn't read till now. Loved how this series starts. All the Elite are at Eagle Elite College. This book introduces the characters and sets the groundwork for the series. Great writing, love the characters. If you haven't read this series yet, it's awesome.
RVD is a fantastic writer. On to the next book!

I received an e-copy of this book from the publishers at NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

As I have said in some reviews, I work at a bookstore. It's actually the best way to learn about new authors outside of being a blogger. I had seen a few Rachel Van Dyken books come through the way and was intrigued. When I realized that I actually had a few of her books for review I was even more determined to give this new author (new to me at least) a gander and see if I liked what I read. This series, The Eagle Elite, was not one I had heard about from her. After reading the synopsis my immediate impression was, 'Ooo, secret society?' I wanted to see if my assumption was correct.

Tracey didn't know what to expect when she started school at Eagle Elite University. She knew she would be surrounded by distinguished, upper-class students and wasn't sure how a farm girl from Wyoming would fit in. Her determination to do right for her grandfather after her grandmother's death was the driving force behind her remaining at the school. The students made her life hell. Especially the students in an elite group called The Elect. Nixon, their leader, seemed to have a personal vendetta against her. She sustained tarnished remarks to her reputation, physical and emotional abuse, and all sorts of torment from her classmates. Nixon, while maintaining a superior air, started making it known that she was protected by him. It was then that Tracey started forming a love-hate relationship with the Student Body President.

Eventually Tracey found out that there was more than meets the eye with the handsome Nixon and his posse. What she finds out makes her question who she is, where she comes from, and why she feels so connected and familiar with Nixon.

I genuinely liked this story. I got a little misty when I saw all the torment that Tracey went through. I was even more teary eyed when I started to see just how much Nixon truly cares about her. Everything he does has a reason behind it and most often it's his misguided way of protecting her. I liked the connection between Nixon and Tracey and found them to be an amazing pair of protagonists. I liked the whole secret society situation that appears to be going on and then eventually finding out it's totally different. I had a hard time truly finding much to dislike about this book, which is amazing for me. I normally find at least SOMETHING I don't like.

I think Elite and the Eagle Elite series would be perfect for someone who likes to be surprised at every turn or someone who likes to watch a couple who don't immediately fall in love at first sight. Tracey and Nixon work at their relationship. It's not handed to them. It makes the story believable and real. We all need a little reality in our fiction or the thrill of getting lost in the author's world isn't as satisfying.

OBSESSED!!! That is what I am with this series and its characters, and this is only book 1!!!!! Elite is another one of those books I have owned for quite a while and it has just been sitting on my shelf, and now I am asking myself why?!?!

This is my first mafia book and I am hooked. Especially it being a twist on a college setting. I love how there is romance, but also the suspense and darkness that comes with being in the mafia.

Tracy is one tough chick to just be thrown into the life she is thrown into. And Nixon is just yum with his tattoos and lip piercing. My favorite though is Chase. He acts tough, but has the heart of gold. He also had me cracking up with hilarious self, but dang that man could get scary as well. Oh and Monroe was amazing as well.

I'm excited to jump into the next book and find out what happens next!!

Oh wow. I've seen this book and this series around, but it sort of bypassed me until a couple of weeks ago. I decided to read the first book and it has totally blown me away. I'm almost happy that I've waited so long because now I have a bunch of books to gorge myself on!

Tracey Rooks is lucky enough to win a nationwide lottery to attend Eagle Elite University, which means she'll be pretty set for life after. Trace is worried about leaving her Grandpa by himself on their farm, but excited for the opportunity. It's fairly clear that she's in a little over her head when she arrives and the students mock her and belittle her. I was so impressed with Trace and her strength and determination. She tries not to let them see her cry and she fights back. I thought Trace was such a perfect main character because she's a normal, down to earth girl and it's very clear that the students at Eagle Elite are not your average college students, so you're right there with her trying to figure it all out.

Nixon is basically head of the Elect- the elite group of students who pretty much run the school. What he says goes. I loved that he's young, but so confident and self-assured, although unfortunately it all comes at a cost. Nixon has to avoid any weaknesses, and his growing feelings for Trace definitely become a vulnerability.

I loved Trace and Nixon together. Even when they're fighting and arguing, there's still that undertow of attraction which drags them toward each other. Nixon tries to push Trace away but somehow she gets under his skin and he can't just ignore her. By the time Nixon and Trace give in to that attraction, I was positively thrilled, As their relationship grew, I thought Nixon was just so sweet with Trace.

I'll admit that after reading reviews of this before picking it up I was worried that the idea of the students being so in control and having so much power would be a little unbelievable, bearing in mind they're all around 18-21 years old. But it's not something I really thought much about, the characters are so convincing that this unrealistic situation seems perfectly believable.
The rest of the characters also play quite important parts in the story and I'm looking forward to seeing their stories further along in the series. The intense and fast moving plot combined with a Romeo and Juliet-esque romance is just addicting. This book has everything you need to keep you absolutely glued to the pages and is a very intriguing start to the series.
Now, excuse me whilst I go read Elect...

This was an absolute hit by Rachel Van Dyken!! This is the first book of hers I have read and I was impressed. The book was so much more than I expected.

This was a complexly weaved story. The plot thickened and twisted in all the right spots. I didn't expect the things that happened. I thought it was an extremely original book.

I also liked the characters. I wanted to hate Nixon, but I just couldn't. He was the sexy bad boy, lip ring, tattoos and all. Monroe was the bubbly sister that took Trace in and treated her with respect. She was a good friend. Then there was Chase. I still don't know how I feel about him. He's sexy as well, but not the main love interest.

I was extremely satisfied with how the book tied up. I'm eager to read the sequel that is coming soon, Elect. I've got to have more of this expertly crafted world.

My ONLY complaint, was the sneak peek at the back of the book. It kind of said too much and left me a little discouraged. That doesn't mean I'm not craving for book 2. This book gets five glittery stars for its complex storyline and well crafted characters.

I got "Elite" as a review book and after starting that one, I could not stop there. I needed to keep going. So now, I can't wait for Phoenix' story to be released. Come on Rachel, NOW!!!!

Okay, first things first. When I started that series, I was immediately drawn into it. It was....unbelievable. The story started out great right away. I think I might have fallen in love with Nixon the minute he walked up to Trace. That cocky behaviour, like he owned the world, just....drew me in. Call me crazy, but with his talk, the way he acts, he's the classic bad boy. And then he's a mafia boss? Come on, it doesn't get any better than that. The same with all the other guys in the series. Each of them is amazing in their own way and if I could, I would have them all as my BBF.

I haven't read many mafia novels so far (only one really, which I loved), so when I realized where this was going, I was a little hesitant about this. But Rachel's storyline, her writing, just made it impossible to put any of the stories down. Her stories flows effortless, so that by the end of the book you don't even realize how much time has passed. That's how invested you get into those stories!!

Any of the Eagle Elite books is unique and amazing in itself. Rachel created a world that involves amazing characters that you can't help but love, a great storyline that leaves you wanting more with every page and a heart that has been through so much by the end of those books that you need a while to get over everything. There is never a point in the story where you're bored, because there are so many twists and turns that you might think you know what's happening, but it'll turn in the completely different direction then.

Characters: Nixon, Chase and Tex are all complete BBFs. Throughout the whole books you see them being loyal, determined and there's nothing they wouldn't do to save the people they love. And there is a lot of things they have to do that goes against everything they believe in.

Everyone that hasn't read the series yet should definitely start right away. This series will blow your mind, make you want to wish you could go to Eagle Elite and be with all those amazing characters, no matter the danger. They are THAT awesome!!!!!

Okay, so I hope that once you get through this review, you will want to read this story! I know that the other Rachel van Dyken's books will be next on my to read list.

So for all these books, it'll be 5 BIG Book Boyfriends for sure!!

Wow, this book was amazing! What a twisted journey! I loved that you would never be able to figure out what this story is about from the first few pages or book blurb. For me the more suspenseful and convoluted the story, the better! So please don't be quick to make judgments. That's the point. This story is told from the heroine's POV, who is in the dark about who she really is and what she is really doing at Eagle Elite College. The beauty and creativeness of this book is how the story unfolds, and Rachel Van Dyken is a master, slowly revealing little clues along the way. In fact, even at the end of this book, you get the sense that there are still secrets that have yet to be unraveled, including who the heroine's true love match is. Yes, that's right, this series sports one of my favorite romance tropes: a love triangle! I can't wait to read book 2, Elect to see how this new adult gem continues to evolve!

Trace Rooks lost her parents at a young age. Raised by her grandparents, who move to a farm in Wyoming to raise her, she has led a fairly wholesome life. Then she fulfills her grandmother's dying wish, when she wins and accepts the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship to attend the prestigious university. Attending Elite, is usually an opportunity that is reserved for the extremely wealthy and future leaders of the country, so Trace believes it's a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone like her.

As soon as she arrives, however, she realizes just what a different world Elite is. Almost immediately she meets mean students who make it their mission to make her question whether she belongs. Perhaps the worst of the them all is Nixon Abandonato, the class president. Everyone seems to cower at his command, even his ever present companion, and fellow Elect member, Chase, who seems to alternate between following Nixon's lead with his taunts and then challenging Nixon by showing genuine interest and concern for Trace.

It doesn't take long for Nixon, however, to begin showing his own interest to Trace; and as his attention seems to alternate between protecting her and then acting like the devil; Trace realizes that she can't deny the inexplainable attraction that she too has to Nixon. It's not logical, but it is undeniable, and she is helpless to resist Nixon.

But the Elect is hiding secrets, and their number one priority is protecting Trace, even if they have to hurt her in the process. Can there possibly be a HEA in the cards for Trace? Moreover, when the truths begin to be told, danger becomes even more omnipresent. Will Trace even manage to stay safe?

All in all, this was a an amazing start to a promising new adult suspense-filled series, which also has a bit of a young adult feel. In that regard, please note that while there is tons of romantic tension, including the beginnings of a love triangle, this read is fairly tame from a love scenes perspective. The action and guessing as to where this series is going, however, both from a romantic and suspense perspective, will keep you joyfully entertained and clamoring for more!

One of the things I love about Rachel’s writing is that each series is so different from the others. They are not versions of the same formula, nor are they predictable. I’ve heard a lot of hype about this series and was excited to finally start reading it.

Eagle Elite is no normal college, though it is hard to get into and the student body is made up of some very prestigious names. When Tracey Rooks wins a scholarship to the secretive institution, she leaves everything she knows in Wyoming to move to campus in Chicago.

Campus is run by Nixon and his group of friends, known as the Elect. They rule with a series of regulations and a healthy dose of intimidation. Nixon himself writes the rules, stands as judge, and commands respect from everyone around him.

As Trace attempts to adjust to life on campus and away from her grandfather’s ranch, the ridicule, hazing and bullying on campus is volatile -- when she was around Nixon and his friends she was ignored, but when she is outside their protection she finds herself targeted by the general population.

Nixon is so hot and cold with Trace. One day he’s joining in on the ridicule pointed at Trace, and the next he is stepping in as her protector. The back and forth, especially in the beginning, was hard to read and a couple times had me wondering if Nixon would be able to change my negative opinion on him.

Trace has a propensity to burst into tears when under stress or upset. Understandable with as out of her element as she finds herself in those first few weeks at Eagle Elite. But after a while, I found myself hoping that she would grow a backbone and drop some of the naivete about what was going on around her. Because it was clear to me what was going on LONG before it was disclosed to her.

But beyond the Romeo/Juliet type romance that bursts into flame, there is so much family drama going on that the character traits that initially rubbed me the wrong way were forgotten in the drama. And as we get further into the action, I forgot that there were character traits that rubbed me the wrong way. The chain of events facing all the characters not only explained some of the motivation behind their actions, but also explained what exactly was going on at Eagle Elite.

The only other thing I can say about this book is that if you read Elite, be prepared to read Elect and Entice as soon as possible because the story continues in each. The cliffhanger ending had me reaching for Elect almost as soon as I read the final words of Elite. And as I have since finished reading Elect (between finishing Elite and writing this review) I can say that most of the questions I had lingering at the end of Elite ARE answered in Elect, as well as a whole new set of issues with the Families.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Receiving a scholarship to a prestigious college was the answer to supporting the modest lifestyle Tracey Rooks lived with her grandparents. Being raised by her grandparents after her parents died, Trace loved the simple life she led in Wyoming. This scholarship could open up so many doors for her future.

What Trace didn’t know is the Eagle Elite was no ordinary college. The hierarchy surrounding the student body was a dynamic that Trace was unprepared for. She quickly learned the students in her school were rude and quite hostile. Then she found herself face to face with the Elect. This welcome party was led by Nixon…a tattooed, smart mouthed, bully that seemed to be in charge of the comings and goings on campus. Nixon quickly introduced Trace to the rules she must follow at the school. Everything from eating to taking the elevator was a privilege. One that could easily be taken from her for failure to follow the rules of The Elect.

Determined not to be intimidated, Trace butts heads with the handsome Nixon. Each day was becoming a struggle in this vicious social setting. The only solace that Trace had was the friendship of her roommate - Monroe. It just so happens that Monroe is Nixon’s twin, and acts as a referee between the two quite often. Even though Nixon makes life harder for Trace, she senses that he has a softer side beneath the bullying. What bothers her even more is that fact that Trace finds herself attracted to Nixon.

Things become confusing to Trace when Nixon is stand-offish one minute and kind to her the next. As they find themselves together more and more, Trace finds herself confused at the feelings she seems to have. A turn of events will leave Nixon uncovering a secret that Trace is not aware she harbors. Secrets that are so big they shake the very foundation that Tracey believes in.

Wow!! Where in the heck have I been?? I read Elite and found myself wondering why on earth I haven’t read a Rachel Van Dyken book before!!!! Elite is NOT your typical romance. It is full of secrets. Each one adding to the plot….building in intensity.

The journey that Nixon and Trace embark upon is unexpected. Readers will love and hate Nixon. His standing with the Eagle Elite will leave you wanting to strangle him. Nixon is fierce, possessive, secretive, and honorable. While Nixon’s dedication to protect Trace at all costs will pull on your heart strings, I found myself wanting to learn more about Chase.

The circumstances surrounding Tracey’s secret will lead the Elite on a journey that they did not see coming. Soon all of the Elect will find themselves at the center of turmoil, as the past comes crashing into their realities. Nothing could prepare Trace for the future….but her secrets are sure to define it.

It has been a VERY long time since I have a read a book this quickly. I just devoured it. I tried so hard to slow my reading down but I was completely addicted from the first page. I have found a new author to follow and a new series to worship. I feel like we may need to have a group chant of "WE'RE NOT WORTHY", actually. Jeez. I loved this book.

Okay, let's get to something constructive other than me just gushing about the book. I've read quite a few New Adult novels lately and I really enjoy most of them. This one is a New Adult novel but it really goes off the beaten path of others in this genre. To be honest, I've never read anything quite like it and these days, that's not a comment that I can hand out willy-nilly.

The characters ... I love discussing characters and even though I'm a little ashamed of it ... I kinda enjoy tearing characters apart. Meaning, I don't want to read about this perfect character in this perfect world with perfect hair, yadda yadda blah. It gets boring. Perfect is boring. Now screwed up ... screwed up is good. Everyone has a little cringe-worthy issue. Everyone. If you think that you don't then yours is worse than everyone else's. That's just how it works. Anyhow, these characters are screwed up and I love it!! I like being able to watch the metamorphosis of a character ... going from bottom of the barrel to the top or even the opposite of that. Rachel Van Dyken can write a perfectly flawed character. AND when she's piling more crap on top of her poor creations, she keeps it believable. I have seen more than one author just butcher a book because the characters are just all wrong, all the time, all over the damn place.

Oh, there's also not any down time in this novel. I didn't find myself getting bored or skimming sentences and paragraphs, no. I wanted to read every single last word. That's a pretty big thing for me. I've read so many things that I can just get ... disinterested ... faster than others might because more than likely, I've read what you're trying to do in your novel and I know EXACTLY where you are going next. But that just didn't happen with Elite. I had no freaking clue what was going to happen next and not knowing was exciting as hell!

I have other books that I'm supposed to be reading right now but I couldn't resist buying the next installment of Eagle Elite because I just had to know what was going to happen and so far, it's just as good as the first!! I'm going to be a lifetime fan of Rachel Van Dyken. I can't say enough how amazing this book really was. Bravo!

Well I can honestly say, I don't think I've ever read a book quite like this. Mafia meets High School Musical, except this isn't High School and it's not a musical.

Trace Rooks, lost both her parents when she was six years old and since then has been raised be her Gran and Grandad. After the death of her Gran, Trace entered a contest and has won a place at an Elite College. She is honoured to have been given such a prestigious place, as students are pretty much guaranteed a highly successful career after graduation.

What Trace doesn't foresee, is the college is goverened by a group of guys called the Elect, of which the leader is Nixon. Even the teachers turn a blind eye to the Elect and if they tell you to do something, you do it. At first I wasn't quite sure what the purpose of Elect was, it appeared to me to be some kind of extreme hierarchy college system and while on some level this is true, there is so much more to it at than that.

I think I may have severe whiplash from the sudden way I went from absolutely despising Nixon to well and truly falling in love with him. He was so so horrible to Trace at first and it felt so much like bullying that I really did feel her pain. I actually couldn't understand why he was so mean to her, but it was also clear there was some underlying reason. The rest of the pupils didn't fair much better either.

Trace does quickly learn to stand up for herself and there are some 'Go Girl' moments where she really makes Nixon speechless.

Many of the characters were mysterious, especially the Elect members, Nixon, Chase, Tex and Phoenix. The sexual chemistry between Nixon and Trace was too hot to handle at times and I was surprised to see that they never once fully gave into their urge, although they did come pretty close on occasion.

There is some violence in this book, but the sexual content is definitely acceptable for a young adult audience.

Throughout the book, I had no idea really what the outcome would be and I had many questions that needed answering, such as who were the Elect? Why was Nixon the leader? What was their purpose? Now while some things were answered, some things remain unexplained, but this has been done in such a way that I cannot wait to find out what happens next. I would have liked just a little more explaining, but no doubt we will find out and also have many more questions as this series progresses.

Wow! I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but what I ended up with was a whole lot more than I'd bargained for. In fact, the only criticism I can come up with is that I'm not sure how "realistic" the plot was. But then, I know nothing about the mafia world, so maybe the plot was entirely plausible. All I know is that I totally bought into the entire plot and loved this book. I loved the characters and I loved the story. I even loved what looks like it might be a small bit of a love triangle...which is usually something that I despise.

I guess if there was any one thing I found to be incredulous, it's that the main female character - Trace - didn't seem freaked out enough about the idea that she was in the midst of a lot of mafia hit men and that murder was a part of their every day lives. That's probably the only part I would change. I felt the character should've been a bit more out of sorts at the knowledge that she was in the midst of organized crime But otherwise, there isn't a thing I would change about this book.

I normally despise books that end in a cliffhanger, but not this time. This time I really feel like this story has to be more than one part. I didn't feel cheated as I normally do when I realize the story hasn't ended. Rather, this time, I felt like the story left off at a comfortable spot, but there was just so much more I wanted to know about the characters and what happened next.

All I can really say is EXCELLENT storytelling by Van Dyken and I can't wait to read the next book!

“I would have kissed you harder. I would have fought for you more. I don’t know. I would have stolen you away, taken your virtue, made myself so permanently etched on your person that every time you took a breath it was my scent that was permeating the air.”

WARNING: If you read this review you’re probably going to say WTF because I loved it and despised it. My feelings are VERY conflicting and half the time while reading this book I was saying WTF at just how unrealistic the concept of this plot and storyline were. But you know what, Elite was energetic and entertaining so I’m rating it 4 stars.

It begins with our heroine, Trace, receiving a scholarship to a prestigious college for the uber rich named Eagle Elite. This has to be the most bizarre college EVER. As soon as she arrives she gets bullied and treated like dirt by the school “god”, Nixon, because she’s considered a charity case and unworthy of even breathing the same air. This is supposed to be college but it felt like high school with all the immaturity and mean girl mentality of the other students.

If an Elect talks to you, never make eye contact. Because, technically, you don’t exist. You’re just a pathetic excuse for a human being, and at this school, you’re a real tragedy.”

Elite felt like some weird Twilight Zone version of Cruel Intentions/Romeo+Juliet/New Moon/Harry Potter all jumbled together. Seriously, this book was all over the place. Even with all its inconsistencies, strangeness, and unrealistic storylines, I still found this novel entertaining and just plan fun to read.

I’m going to be completely honest in closing by saying this is one of those books where you either love it or hate it, not much of an in-between. However, if you’re still interested in ELITE after reading my thoughts then download the free sample and see what you think.

Enjoyable and filled with secrets, betrayals, and star-crossed romance, Elite was a great New Adult read. It was a wonderful romance that I quite liked.

Tracey was a great heroine. Even surrounded by some of the most powerful people in the world, she refused to let herself she cowed or made to think less of herself. She was an overall likable character.

Nixon was a little more iffy for me. On one hand, once he stopped actively trying to be an ass, he could be sweet and he was obviously very loyal and protective of his loved ones. Not to mention how much of a badass he was. But, I didn't understand why he was such a jerk at first. And, he never explained or tried to apologize so I couldn't fully move past him. But, while I couldn't totally love him because of that, I still did like him.

The romance was good. Tracey and Nixon definitely had a star-crossed lover problem going on, but that didn't stop their feelings or their determination to be together. I did feel like it went a little too fast because I didn't feel like they actually got to know each other. But, they were a good couple overall.

The plot was fast paced and I was kept interested the entire way through. There were plenty of twists, secrets, and betrayals to keep me engaged. I really enjoyed the story and the ending has me curious about what will happen next.

Elite was an enjoyable New Adult romance that I liked. It was unpredictable, romantic, and an great read. Romance lovers, this is a book worth checking out.

To be fair, I finished the story in one day. It was actually easy to read, a page-turner, if I might say so, and it didn't contain super long, detailed descriptions of every scenery, every emotion, every event that took place. (Unlike the other books I've read which were really boring because of a very long and winded storylines.

ELITE was okay. In the beginning, I wasn't really impressed with the plot. Come on - a new student who was luckily accepted in a high-caliber school for the rich and famous. Then she got bullied by four rich guys, The Elite, and the leader of the gang was ruthless to her and the rest of the student body threw eggs and milk at her. Sounds very much like the Japanese Manga I have read, watched and loved over and over again. (Hana Yori Dango). Things got more interesting though when Nixon's Mafia affiliation and Tracey's real background came to light. Yup, mafia with guns and goons and gold from Sicily. Now that's what I'm talking about! The whole Mafia involvement was what really made me like the story. Suddenly, I saw Nixon and Chase in a whole new light. But my opinion about Trace still stands. I still think she's a whiny, cowardly and Bella-from-Twilight personified. I prefer Monroe, the devil's sister, over her. But that's just me.

Over all, the story was beautifully written, the last two chapters were the bomb and the cliffhanger ending made me want to read what ELECT (the next book) is all about.

NOTE: I got a copy of this book courtesy of Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I was hooked early on but it all became too much for me.

This has got to be the craziest most OTT book I’ve ever read. It’s totally bizarre with more holes than Swiss cheese.

Nixon being cruel apparently for the sake of it. Tracey crying her way through everything. That girl really needs to buy shares in Kleenex.

Ultimately it came down to children playing at being mafia and it drove me crazy.

Okay maybe I’m being harsh. A lot of people love this book and if you’re one of them we’ll agree to disagree.

You know that feeling you get when you start reading a book and you think, “OMG! This is good.”? I had that feeling by the end of chapter one of Elite, but then my thoughts changed to “OMG! This is freaking awesome!” as the story progressed. That feeling continued until the very last page. If anything, it magnified.
I dislike a book that is predictable and Elite is anything but that. As I was reading, I was thinking. I had so many questions. Every page I turned seemed to hold a secret, a secret that I really needed to know. Because of that, it was almost impossible to put this book down. I had to go to sleep at 5 am simply because my eyes wouldn’t function any more.
But that wasn’t the only thing I loved about this book. I loved, or hated the characters, sometimes both. Of course, I loved Trace and Nixon wasn’t far behind, but I also had mixed feelings about him. But there also so many other characters to love or hate. Chase found a place in my heart.
Elite is a book that took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I smiled, I cringed and I also sighed. There were quite a few WTF! and OMG! moments, especially towards the end. Speaking about the end, I am so happy that I have more books to read in this series.
I have to share my favourite quote from this book. This is one of the times when I sighed and it occurs towards the end of the book. “I need you like I need my heart to pump blood through my body, like I need air to breathe, like we need gravity. Being with you makes me feel veneered and whole, and I’m too screwed up to convince you to want anything different. I’m too selfish to push you into someone else’s arms when I know mine may be the worst one for you to be in.”
There aren’t enough stars available for my review, so I will have to settle on giving Elite 5 stars.

Well, I was not expecting that! I was not really sure what this was going to be about, but I was not expecting everything that happened. When this started, it was like a bad high school drama with immature pranks and the mean kids. It was not what I was expecting from a college aged read. However; it took a totally different turn than I was expecting with tons of secrets. There are triggers for bullying and rape. Overall, I am a little torn on this one. I am going to pick up the next book to see if this is a series I will finish.

This is the second novel by Rachel Van Dyken that I have read and I have to say that I was much more impressed with this book than I was with The Bet. I read this book so fast its amazing I didn't get whiplash. It was so addicting! I could not put it down and even after I finished I bought the second one immediately. The Eagle Elite series is very very addicting. I am definitely going to keep going with this series.

The pace was right on with this book. I also really liked all the characters. I want Monroe for a best friend! I loved the almost immediate sisterly bond that Monroe and our main character Trace share. I also really just liked the plot of this story. The events were fun to read and Nixon is amazing. He is going on my book boyfriend list for sure.

Some things that I didn't like was the almost 180 that Nixon seems to have and how incredible mean he is to her in the beginning. Also the pranks were so harsh to Trace that it was all a little depressing in the beginning.

Overall though I loved the mafia idea and can't wait to see what else this author comes out with!

I was completely taken by surprise by this book. After reading the blurb I was expecting a book about a bunch of high school kids in a clique and a new girl trying to fit in. Instead I got a lot more adrenaline and a story I felt for the most part was unbelievable for characters so young. Of course very few of the teenagers I know are like Nixon or even Tracey. I was for the most part surprised by their level of maturity and how I never knew what was going to happen. For the longest time I wasn't sure who Tracey was romantically interested in let alone end up with!

Here's my original review from July of 2013: "When I started this book I thought I had a clue about what I was going to read; something new adult, hopefully a contemporary romance. Well I got all I was expecting and more. The story starts off going in one direction, and the next thing I knew, I was thinking, "Whoa!" and hooked. I can't wait to read the second book in this series and see where Rachel Van Dyken takes this. There were a lot of times where I felt as if things were a little over the top, but that always makes for an exciting read if done right. I loved The Bet by this author and I am eagerly looking forward to whatever she writes"

All the above still holds true. The books have gotten better with each one and this series is now something I look forward to reading. I don't mind being surprised anymore!

I picked Elite up on NetGalley eons ago, it's one of those books that got lost in the shuffle. I am so sorry that it did! I picked it up today on a whim, not reading the blurb and going in knowing nothing at all. As it turned out, I loved it and read the whole book today and as soon as I finish this post, I'm going to purchase book two.

This book has so many secrets!!! So many that for a while I thought the secret was that they were aliens or some secret paranormal group. Seriously - I didn't know where it was going, and I didn't want to go and read the blurb after I got into the book. Well, I was way off. Seeing as this book was published in 2013, I doubt anything I say would be considered a spoiler, but just in case I'll try to keep it a bit vague on what the secrets are .

Trace (short for Tracey) is just entering college, Eagle Elite. At first, this felt more like prep school or private school, rather than college. However, it is absolutely New Adult and not Young Adult. Anyhow, she gets there and right away has a run in with Nixon, rich playboy extraordinaire. Where Trace is from a farm, Nixon is from the city. While Trace is naive, Nixon... well, he most definitely is not. The two of them have chemistry right away, and I loved it. Nixon was being absolutely horrible to Trace, though, and there were definitely moments where I thought the worst of him. He acts like he owns the place...apparently with good reason. Nixon rules, and the entire school... hell, the entire city, listens. It was definitely an odd situation.

Nixon has a twin sister, Monroe, and she is Trace's roommate, and she is the best. Seriously. This girl should win some awards for best girlfriend ever. She sticks up for Trace, she helps her fit in when she is very much out of place, and she is genuinely a caring and nice person. Nixon also has what I referred to as minions, at least until I got to know them. Tex, Phoenix, and Chase. They all have their good and bad moments, some more than others as the story goes on, but you will have to read that to find out.

So secrets come out and wow! They are certainly some big secrets. But it ends up putting Nixon and Trace together, and it is all things good. When they are together, I felt happy for them. They were good together. And when they are apart, well, it sucked. And the kisses they have, whew, they are definitely good!

I'm sure this will change in books to come, but I think it's important to note that while this is New Adult, it is not as sexual (at all!) as most NA books. But you know what, I didn't really miss it. I think the anticipation of the hot sex to come is as good for me as it is the characters. Being that this is my first book from Rachel Van Dyken, I'm impressed. This book caught me by surprise. I loved it though. Her writing brought me right in and kept me in attention throughout every page.

Note: Netgalley's "Pub Date" showed October 14, 2014 but upon further inspection, this refers to it's paperback release. The series is in full-swing. Original release date on this book (eBook format) shows July 9, 2013. Three more books to this series have already been released: ELECT (December 2013), ENTICE (May 2014) and ELICIT (August 2014). Two more are already scheduled for 2015: EMBER (February) and ELUDE (July) and some in-between books thrown in, too.
Mean Girls x Hunger Games? Young Adult Melodrama from the first line.
This could be the non-paranormal version of House of Night, Vampire Academy, or Morganville (or movie, The Covenant). Tracey (goes by Trace) is moved from Chicago to Wyoming and raised on a farm by her grandparents when she's just a young child, after her parents are killed. She enters a lottery to attend an elite college back in Chicago at her ailing grandmother's urging. A week after grandma's passing, she receives her winner's notice. There she meets Nixon, self-appointed King of the Douchebags who just happens to be her roommate, Monroe,'s brother and rules the school with some sort of reversed psychology philosophy bulls***. But hidden agendas and repressed memories swirl about in a maelstrom of unbridled chaos. Even when the characters are not fully likable, they are so thoughtfully and thoroughly written with so many layers they put Shrek to shame. The dynamic between characters plays out with dialogue and interaction that creates full-bodied dimension. The plot is rich and abundant in it's flow and story line, creating unforeseen twists even when you *think* you know what's ahead. There's a ton of conflict, none of which really gets resolved. In fact, by the end of the book, more conflict is added to create an epic "to be continued" open ending for ELECT to pick up with.
Overall, once you can see past all of the hidden motives, false identities and back story, it has the promise to be a great series, even despite the open ending.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well that was amazing! This book didn't make a whole lot of sense at the beginning because the author didn't want to give away the whole plot from the start, but there was just something so mysterious about Eagle Elite. So that's probably why I stayed up until 2AM to finish reading it!!

Trace Rooks wins the lottery and is set to attend Eagle Elite in Chicago. She's a farm girl from Wyoming and isn't used to the big city. She thought she was your average everyday girl wanting to get a decent education to support her grandfather, the only family she believes she has left.

Cue the super hot, super yummy, super douchey Nixon Abandonato. He is the sole reason that the majority of the women race loves a bad boy. The only problem: he's a total a** to Trace!! But it's because she doesn't remember. She doesn't know who he is. She's been brainwashed to believe something just far enough from the truth to be believable. And when I say brainwashed I don't mean for it to sound so negative. It was just her Grandpa who wanted to protect her.

I don't want to go too in depth because I don't want to spoil anything for anybody. But let me just say that the way the plot twists from one to the next was pretty cool. I was kind of expecting what happened to happen but then there are so many things that can take place in a book that you've gotta keep your mind wide open.

I think Rachel Van Dyken is a brilliant young/new adult romance writer. She's on my top 10 favorite authors right now. She's just got this super creative writing style that pulls you in.

Overall, I think this book is worth reading for anyone interested in a little bit of young love mixed with some dangerous people. I couldn't go to bed until I finished it... It was that good! There is a sequel and I'm so pumped for it!! It's called Elect .

This is a series that you really want to go in blindly. I remember when it first came out and I read the synopsis, I was clueless. As word of mouth spread and I later read Bang Bang that which is a mid series stand alone to allow people to jump into the series, I now know what it is really all about. But it is still fun watching all the secrets, lies and hidden elements of their world slowly be exposed.

When farm girl Trace Rooks wins the annual Eagle Elite college scholarship she has no idea what she is really getting into. She is thrust into a world with a class system, rules, and many people with cruel intentions. From the minute she arrives she is on the radar of the group that runs the school...Nixon and his cohort, Chase, Tex and Phoenix. And she also ends up rooming with Nixon's sister, Monroe.

Poor Trace has a difficult transition into this world and nothing is really what it seems. Nixon and his group alternates between tormenting her and protecting her. But something keeps drawing Nixon to her, and Chase as well. Nixon ran extremely hot and cold, but had underlying reasons and obligations. He was handsome, powerful, controlling, and could alternate quickly between cruel, closed off, and protective. Trace was pretty naive, emotional, and impulsive. She was lost for much of the story as she had no idea what she was really involved in and all of the players kept her off balance. And there were inconsistencies in her past that she is slowly becoming aware of.

Together they were a mess. It was hard to keep up with if they were ignoring, fighting or just hurting the other at any given point and it could change rapidly. There was a lot of push and pull and since many reasons were hidden, it was hard for Trace (and us) to figure out what was really going on under the surface. I was equally drawn to the characters and annoyed by them at the same time. Their behavior gave me whiplash.

This whole story is full of secrets, drama, hidden agendas, and danger. The depth of the situation slowly unravels as the story goes on and Trace is gradually brought into the loop.

This is the type of book you pick up to just escape into another world. It pulls you in and is fast paced and has many twists. The external drama regarding the social system at the school and family drama often took over the romantic aspect of the story. But there were relationships forming: Trace and Nixon in their on again/off again situation. Trace and Chase is a more friendly platonic, but still close bond with potential for more. Monroe and Tex were circling around each other. I felt like the relationships were not really fully developed and some of it seemed to happen too fast or changed too rapidly. It seemed like the relationships were more one dimensional, while the family ties were quite layered and at times almost overwhelming to keep straight. But with that being said, this is just book one and I know it will all firm up in future books. Since I read Bang Bang already, I have already seen a bit into the future with these characters. And I knew that after reading Elite it was going to be necessary to go right into Elect to continue Nixon, Trace, and Chase's story and also look forward to more of Tex, Monroe, and Phoenix in the future.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Tracey Rooks was your normal teenage girl. Raised by her Grandparents on a farm in Wyoming - she always assumed that she was just like everyone else. Driven by a need to be able to one day provide and take care of her aging Grandfather, Tracey enters a lottery to try and win a scholarship to the Eagle Elite University. She gets in - but gets more than she bargained for.

The students are rude, the "Elect" society is made up of a few select students who run the school however the see fit while the administration turns a blind eye to everything that goes on.

How will Tracey ever convince the snobby student body that she belongs there?

*This is a New Adult Book, blood, violence, cursing, sexual references, and drug use. Not recommended for those under 17.*

My Rating: 4 Stars out of 5

Where to begin this review? I guess I could start off by first saying that I am a fan of Ms.Van Dyken's books. I have loved her Seaside series so far, and I enjoyed her most recent book The Bet.

However, at first I had a hard time getting into Elite. I completely get that these kids are all the sons and daughters of wealthy and well known people, but the way they treat Tracey (or Trace as she prefers to be called) is horrendous. In one instance, she is deliberately drugged and made to look like a slut. In another, she is covered in sugar water, effectively ruining everything she has on her. And during all of this, the campus Administration does nothing.

Elite also seemed to move slower than her other books, but once it got started, it took you on steady ride that left you surprised, and wanting more. You see, the Elect of Eagle Elite (the worst students of the bunch) are all keeping a secret. One that Tracey unknowingly plays a large part in.

The characters were all three dimensional and real, especially Trace. The way she handles herself around these students in commendable, and something I'm not sure most people would be able to do if in her situation. Her emotions are real - she feels hurt and betrayal, friendship and love. Her reactions to things are as would be expected from a person in her position.

The Elect even had their moments, although I found myself time and again wishing it were possible to reach into the book and beat some sense into Nixon. His reasoning behind his actions makes sense, don't get me wrong, but sometimes.. he handles things in the complete wrong way.

All in all, I think Ms.Van Dyken has done a wonderful job setting the stage for a great new series of books - and if you ask me - she has another hit on her hands with Elite.

DISCLAIMER: I received an advanced copy of Elite in exchange for my honest review. This has not reflected on my review in any way.

Quick & Dirty: Daring new adult book filled with betrayal, romance, and mystery. One of my favorite reads for the year.

Opening Sentence: Whoever told me life was easy— lied.

The Review:

Tracey Rooks is very lucky she won a scholarship to one of the most prestigious colleges in the country, Eagle Elite. Trace was raised by her grandparents after her parents were killed in a horrible accident when she was 6 years old. Soon after the accident her grandparents moved to a remote ranch in Wyoming. Trace lived a very happy but sheltered life where she was home schooled. Her grandmother died a few months back and Trace feels like she needs to get a good job so she can take care of her grandfather as he gets older. Everyone that attends Eagle Elite is basically guaranteed a fabulous career with lots of success, so for Trace this is her ticket to make something of herself. But upon arriving at college Trace soon discovers that Eagle Elite is not the fairytale experience she was expecting.

The first people she meets are The Elite, four boys who think they run the school. They are jerks that have stupid rules and Trace isn’t really the type of girl to be pushed around by bullies. Their fearless leader is Nixon, and even if he is an insufferable human, he is the most gorgeous guy Trace has ever met. As Trace tries to survive in the hostile environment she has been thrust into, she starts to realize that everyone at Eagle Elite has secrets including her.

I adored Trace right off the bat. She is a sweet girl, but she also has a fire in her. No one stands up to The Elite, but Trace refuses to back down and let them treat her like she is beneath them. Because she lived such a sheltered life growing up, going to college is her chance to really experience life and have some fun. She does have her naive moments, but that just made her feel more realistic. She had a strong voice throughout the whole story, and I honestly loved getting to know her.

Nixon is the epitome of a perfect bad boy. He is dangerous, hot, and a total jerk. But the more you get to know Nixon, the more you love him. As his story starts to unravel you slowly being to understand why he is so rude and demanding. In Nixon’s world everything is complicated and one wrong move could mean life or death. He is instantly drawn to Trace, but they have a very hot and cold relationship. One minute he is kissing her and the next he is purposely trying to hurt her. Their relationship is full of tension and chemistry. I’m not going to go into any more detail about Nixon cause I don’t want to spoil anything, but I will say that thinking about him makes me drool just a little bit!

Elite was something totally different than I expected, but in a very good way. From the first page, I was totally engrossed in the world that Dyken created, I honestly found that I couldn’t put the book down until I was finished reading it. The plot was full of secrets and it was completely intriguing. The characters were perfect and so easy to connect with. The story is full of action, heartbreak, love and mystery. The ending was done perfectly but left me dying to know what happens next. I have read other books by Dyken, but this series is by far my favorite. If you are in the mood for a good new adult book with lots of intrigue and romance, I suggest you give this one a try.

Notable Scene:

Something snapped. I pushed against his chest. He stumbled backward, the look on his face changed from complete anger to disbelief.

“Did you just touch me?”

“You threatened me.”

“I threaten everyone.”

“Then you’re a bully.”

He opened his mouth and then snapped it shut again. A wicked smile played across his lips. “So you wanted to touch me?”

“No, I want you to leave me the hell alone.”

“Say please.”

“Please?” I begged looking directly into the depths of his soulless eyes.

“Hell. No,” he whispered and then moved past me and jerked open the door. A girl was waiting outside. He backed into my room and slammed the door again.

FTC Advisory: Forever/Grand Central Publishing/Hachette Book Group provided me with a copy of Elect. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

There are A LOT OF SPOILERS in my review.
I have no problem to read a book, where I have to suspend my disbelief with the premise or some plot points/devices, I read for the story and the characters. In "Elite" the story takes place in the most prestigious college in the world, attended by the kids of the international business and political elite. They all want to study there, though everybody knows, that the school is owned and run by the most powerful mafia boss Nixon Abandonato, a 20 years old guy, who is the only real authority in the school and a bully. This is presented as necessary to keep the students in order. The premise, as improbable and problematic as may be, creates conflict, so I was interested to see how the story would go.
There are quite a lot of other plot points, which didn't seem to make sense. The heroine's grandfather is a big mob boss from a different family. After her parents were killed, he became a farmer and hid the child at the farm under another name, as if this was the only option for such a rich and powerful man. Moreover, as it turned out, he still remained a respected mob boss after all this time at the farm. The heroine Trace doesn't remember almost anything from her early childhood, and doesn't know about her mob family. Still the grandfather sends her to a school, owned and ruled by the mob. His reasons are that she will get access to the world, where she belongs (which he himself has taken away from her by turning into a farmer), no one will know her (except that he gave her a necklace with her real name, which she doesn't know, and she wears it for all to see), and if by chance her identity is discovered, she will serve as a bait to draw out the killers of her parents! What was the hiding at the farm all those years for? He also gave Trace pocket money in bills of 10000 USD, which would not help her to keep a low profile. For some reason, which was not explained, despite being a "farm girl", Trace was assigned to be a roommate of Nixon's sister. Another thing, which stands out, is that Nixon is the most powerful mob boss, but he is afraid to even go out of the school, because he will be attacked, though further in the story he seemed to get along more or less with all the mafia families. So on the whole a lot in the plot seemed to not make sense to me.
Still the main reason that this story didn't work for me is the character of Nixon. From the moment he appeared in the story, he was presented as a bully, who demands total obedience to himself and his gang of Elects. He controls the students' lives (even things like how many times a day people will eat and use the elevator) and uses his power for awards and punishments. If anyone objects, they are bullied into leaving the school. Trace was supposed to be an ordinary girl, accepted by winning a lottery, so he started insulting her from the moment she stepped in the school. He threatened her, invaded her privacy, whenever he wanted, treated her with familiarity, which she had not allowed - stayed in her room, watched her undress, touched her, made her eat from his hand. He had no problem upsetting her every time they were together and claimed that he protected her from the other students (?). He humiliated her publicly by pretending that she wanted to sleep with him, because she dared to make a simple joke about his behavior. When his minions decided to follow his lead and torment her (she was drugged, brought to a boy's room, and then labeled as a slut), he suddenly turned into her protector (he still didn't know who she was at that point). Then it was revealed that he knew her and was her close friend, when they were children. They got together and fell in love. In my opinion he was abusive, their falling in love was contrived, and the story did not work for me at all as a romance.
Also I would like to mention another character - Chase, who took a part in her humiliation (when she was drugged, he brought her to the boy's room), and after that this was suddenly forgotten, as if it didn't happen, and they became good friends.

Holy bejesus! WOW. I have many addictions when it comes to books. I love me some rockstars, bikers, millionaires, billionaires and cowboys. I'm sure there is many more but I have NEVER come across a mafia book that has hooked me so bad that I neglected everything...and I do mean everything. The hubby had a great day cleaning and cooking lol.

I was hooked from page one. I didn't stop reading all day until I finished, not only Elite, but also book 2, Elect.

Tracey has lived a very sheltered life and is finally going to live her life per her late grandmothers request. She's very vulnerable in a lot of way but some of the ways she's vulnerable she is unaware of. She's being thrown to the wolves although she doesn't know who all the wolves are.

She doesn't know the dangers she faces from going to Eagle Elite University. The dangers she is being used to flush out just by not being sheltered anymore.

I can't even begin to tell you how this book made me feel. It was like a huge mystery that I had to solve. A mystery that is so far from what I thought it would be. The twists and turns just blew me away.

Elite has the start of a great love triangle. A love triangle that went on to break me. One where I knew who had me the most but also one that made me wish I felt differently.

The minute Nixon first walks into the book I was all him. Yes he was an arrogant ass, but aren't all the greatest book boyfriends asses to start off with. The difference is that Nixon has reason to act the way he does.

If you lovelies listen to any of my reviews at all then this is one series I will shout about. YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK! If you can read just one book before the end of this year then I highly recommend Elite!

I am team Nixon... who are you?

It's truly the BEST mafia book EVER!

I give Elite 5 stars- I wish I could give more!

It's one of my rare occasion when I want give 10 stars, but I can't so I give halfway into it five enormous stars.

I love how Rachel writes, all of her book. It's easy to read, you feel the connection with her characters. It's just awesome!

Whoever told me life was easy - lied. It's hard. It's sucks. The crazy thing is - nobody has the guts to admit the truth. Everyone I mean everyone has a secret. Everyone has a story that needs to be told.

I don't know if I ever have a book-girl, but I love Trace. She won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery. Her grandma had just died and she wanted to take care of her aging grandpa -- he couldn't be a farmer in Wyoming forever.

She lost her grandma and couldn't really remember her childhood, her father and mother. But they are key in the story and in her future.

She wasn't counting on meeting Nixon, and the rules of the Elect.

1. Do not touch The Elect.
2. Do not look at The Elect.
3. Do not speak to The Elect.

First I thought it can't be happening, all the crap what went around, I mean just like an initiation, the worst kind, and it was :)

But something switched in Nixon, because Trace become his future and past altogether.

I'd rather he beat me. Cuts heal, bruises fade - but broken hearts? They carry scars for a lifetime.

Just reading the story sometimes my toes curl in anticipation, I am so tensed up and after a while my muscles loosen and a heartwarming smile comes in my face...

Well I am still speechless, I LO-VE this book so much, and I can't wait I get up in 8 days and read ELECT.

I need you like I need my heart to pump blood through my body, like I need air to breathe, like we need gravity. Hell Trace, you are my gravity.

I definitively TEAM NIXON, I just can't feel Chase and I hope Trace remain the girl who I like so much, because I want them together.

Tracey knew it was going to be turned upside down. On a roller coaster ride, and I felt a love triangle may turn up, which only brings a new element to their story, that was both original, and fast paced, and unpredictable. If you are looking for something completely different, this may be for you. Well written and characters I cared about….

Wow, this was an interesting and unexpectedly gripping read. There was so much more to the story than we saw in the beginning, and I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns along the way. I also loved the relationship between Trace and Nixon. There was a bit of a love triangle going on, and I have to say that I also liked the other guy involved, Chase. At first I actually wanted Trace to be with Chase, but then I realized she was clearly drawn to Nixon for a reason, and there was definitely something real between them.

Nixon was a confusing character, alternating between hot and cold in his interactions with Trace. She definitely held her own with him, though, and I found myself mentally high-fiving her several times for standing up to him. Eventually I found myself softening toward him as we got to know him better and saw his connection with Trace. After their first date it was clear we were going to be in for one wild ride with this couple.

The Elite live in a very dangerous world and although I had a sneaking suspicion about where things were headed, the situation was very more complicated than I realized. I liked how Van Dyken intermixed the romance with action and intrigue and even added some funny moments that had me laughing out loud. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and felt they fit nicely into the story. The second half of the book was particularly interesting, and I can't wait to read the next book and see what happens.

First Thoughts: My rating = 100 flashing stars that glow in rainbow colors What. In. The. Heck. Was. That? Oh, it was epic awesomeness!! I was up into the wee hours reading this and then once I was done couldn't sleep!! This was SO intense, awesome, refreshing...I could keep going and going... Please oh please, I need the next book SOON!!

Plot, Pacing and Style: I don't even know where to start. Tracey, or Trace, was lucky enough to win a slot in the premiere college: Eagle Elite. She arrived, and within minutes was told to bow down to a select few on the campus. Whaaaa? Yep, I was what the heck?? and so was Trace. Of course Trace only follows the rules as little as she can to get by with, but soon finds herself caught up in the storm that is Nixon, head of the Elect. What happens next? You'll have to read to find out! You all know I'm a spoiler-phobe and I don't want to give any more details away. This was so fast paced, but in an outstanding way. I was never confused or bored, more like sucked in on so many levels. There were also some serious LOL moments. Like the "bucket list". I loved it!! I can't get over Ms. Van Dyken's talent for writing.

The MCs: Again, I don't even know where to start with the god that is Nixon. His presence was intimidating, yet irresistibly delicious. Scary. And then scary calm when the sh*t hit the fan. Ultimately he is all kinds of man. All kinds...and I want to know more. I feel like we only got to see a small part of him, there's still so much more to Nixon, so many layers. Trace, on the other hand, I felt like I got to know her a bit better as this was written in her POV. I think I loved seeing how she fit into her new role and was able to adapt. Well, as well as expected. She had so much thrown at her, yet was so resilient. Loved her!

Romance /Chemistry: It was undeniable and hello alpha male to the max!! Holy hot kisses and touches and rules and GAH!! For the love of god please let there be some down time in the next book so we can get a massive kissy scene in. Just trust me, this chemistry is off the charts.

There had better not be a love triangle or Imma freak out!! Please, Ms. Van Dyken, let's just give Chase his own book. PLEASE!!! I love Chase and can't deal with disliking him. I hate love triangles so I'm a bit nervous.

"I would have kissed you harder. I would have fought for you more. I don't know. I would have stolen you away, taken your virtue, made myself so permanently etched on your person that every time you took a breath it was my scent that was permeating the air."

This is what I'm talking about, people!!! *shakes fists in the air*

Title/Cover: The title is simple and perfect, yet gives away nothing. Just how I like it! The cover is sexy, romantic, and shows how in charge Nixon is, and yah, mama likey a lot.

Twists and Turns: Holy crap with the hammer and what happened after with Grandpa!!

Ending: Oh man oh man oh man, do we even have time for a breather?? Intense, scary, awesome. It is not a cliffhanger, but we know bad stuff is a coming!

Gripes/suggestions: I have none. Zero. Nada. For real!

Final Thoughts/Rec It? YES YES YES!! I can't even begin to rec this enough. Romance, action, bad boys, GUNS, tattoos. Yep, all in there!! I need book 2, Elect, ASAP! Ms. Van Dyken says there might be a third book as well. For the love all of bucket lists, please make that happen!!

When Tracey Rook does what her grandma ask on her dying bed from cancer to enter this contest to try and win a spot for the college The Eagles Elite she never in her wildest dreams thought she would get it and well her she is with grandpa dropping her off 6 months after grandma's passing. There is a sub-human group called "Elite" (EE) they are the rulers of the college with the leader being Nixon. Nothing happen without him knowing or orchestrating it first. Even the teachers and all staff stay out of his way for his parents are that powerful along with all the other parents of the kids that go here. So, I am finding out quick. This made it tough for an outsider like a young woman of 18 years old from Wyoming who lived on a farm with her grandma and grandpa who raised her after her parents were killed in Chicago. Not trust fund babies like the rest of these spoiled brats so when she is given "the rules" to follow by Nixon to follow her right away bucks the system by mouthing off and not bowing to his words. So, to humiliate her he refers to her as "farm girl" which by the way her name is Tracey. They throw a whole bunch of other things like hazing at her for which I truly though of stopping the reading of the book, but something told me to finish and boy am I glad I did.
There are so many twist in turns in this story that you will not be able to keep up and you will not be able to put it down either. The best part of the story is the friendship that forms between Morgan and Tracey. What seems like an unlikely duo becomes this amazing friendship. At first I was leery but it morphed into a great thing for both of them.
These characters are filled with such depth and emotion that at times I found myself smiling and other close to having tears falling. This is a wonderful and fast pace book that I guarantee you will not find boring on any level what so ever. I was not sure what to expect by truly was not disappoint at all. You have friendships, mystery, suspense, romance and so much more...WOW!!!

**I was given an eARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

Just to give you a taste of how I felt after reading this book, I'll show you my final status words from Goodreads: "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! THAT'S WHERE IT ENDS?!?! And the prologue for the next book?! I AM SO MAD!! (In a good way, I suppose) Way to get me emotionally involved, Rachel Van Dyken! Now, I HAVE to read the next book, ASAP!"

Now, I REALLY enjoyed the premise of this book, but since it plays such a huge part in the confusion of the main character, and how she is treated throughout the book, I don't want to give it away! I mean, don't get me wrong, I guessed correctly what was going on before the reader is ACTUALLY told, but still, I don't want to spoil the story! Let me just tell you a few things about the main characters in this book, and hopefully that will give you enough of a taste to want to read it!

Tracey Rooks: HOORAY for a pretty strong female MC! When she first meets Nixon, she kinda lets him make her feel bad, but once she's had enough of his crap, boy does she let him have it! For the most part, she is AMAZING at standing up for herself. From the time she was 6 (when her parents were killed in an accident) Tracey grew up in the middle of nowhere on a ranch in Wyoming with her grandparents. Six months ago, her grandma died. On of her grandmother's parting wishes was that, if she could get in, Tracey attend Eagle Elite University for college. And wouldn't you know, Tracey won the lottery for a scholarship. When she shows up, and her grandpa is almost immediately asked to leave, everyone instantly begins treating her, the new scholarship case, like crap...she doesn't really understand why, except that there is The Elect, and apparently they make the rules.

Enter Nixon: We won't discover what Nixon's last name is for a while...and for good reason. (I'm not gonna tell you why!) He is INSANELY rude, and a really big bully toward Tracey, along with his little band of cronies. Even though he is the student body president, and apparently the head of The Elect on campus, Tracey decides to stand up to him whenever she has the opportunity to do so. At the end of Nixon's first reign of terror against Tracey, we meet:

Monroe: Satan's (err, Nixon's) sister. Who also just so happens to be Tracey's roommate. At first, Tracey is a little leery of Monroe's intentions (because Monroe is AWESOME, and gorgeous) but they quickly become friends.

One last character to get you going: Chase. This fine young man is one of Nixon's cronies. Even though he treated her like absolute crap the minute Tracey showed up, once she has her first public showdown with Nixon, and kinda wins, Chase decides he likes Tracey, and goes against Nixon's wishes and is nice to her.

This all leads to some VERY interesting happenings during Tracey's first weeks at school. This book is very fast paced, and you won't want to put it down! I read it from start to finish in one sitting! This book had me busting a gut one minute, then in complete and utter shock the next. There is one cliche that rings true in this book: You can't help the family you are born into. And that's all I'm going to say!

Mean Girls meet Gossip Girl (boys version) - Elite is an awesome, and deliciously written NA series that will leave you licking your fingers. Elite is one of those books you read without expectations and end up being blown away by the smart and quite different plot.

The plot in this story is quite different and perhaps one of the smartest reads in NA that has been released lately. The plot revolves around the Eagle Elite University and its student body. Eagle Elite is one of those ivy league schools that not everyone gets into. When Tracey gets accepted she knows that she will have a lot more to deal with than just her grades. She isn't part of The Elite, her family doesn't come from money, her parents don't own big enterprises or corporations and certainly they aren't politicians or famous. Having lost her parents when she was just a child, she lives with her grandfather who is very protective and who has have a good share of secrets.

Tracey's welcome to the school is orchestrated by The Elect, a group of guys who do not hold back when wanting to make someone's life miserable. The Elect has rules and they most be followed and obeyed or you will pay. I totally love how this story flowed and how the characters slowly developed. I think the author did a great job introducing us to each of the important players in the story while keeping the excitement and suspense. While it wasn't necessarily obvious I knew that there was more to Tracey than we were lead to believe. She is smart, mouthy and isn't afraid to call things like she sees them, perhaps that's exactly why I liked her character so much. Nixon on the other hand left me to believe he was a total jerk.

Nixon is one of those male characters that regardless of how arrogant, egotistical and rude he is, one can't help but feel attracted to his attitude and sexy looks. Think of Nixon as the Gretchen Wieners of Mean Girls - he makes everyone's business, his business. He knows everyone and everything. Now, Chase, he is a tough guy who follows the rules, and he also impose them, but do not let that tough guy attitude fool you, he is a sweetheart with a great heart. Ah I could go on about these characters but keep in mind those two because they will steal your heart one way or another. I think this series is going to be great, the plot, the surprises, the characters and the drama is exactly what readers will enjoy. I for once can't wait to get my hands on book 2 because I am dying to see what happens next. The romance was building, the betrayal almost imminent and the heart breaks almost necessary. I am excited about what's to come next on this series.

If you haven't read anything by Rachel Van Dyken you may want to start with this book, it has all the ingredients to make the Eagle Elite series a spicy, entertaining and juicy one. Think of Mafia, secrets, money and TONS OF POWER!

This review will appear at My Secret Romance Book Reviews

1. Do not touch The Elect.
2. Do not look at The Elect.
3. Do not speak to The Elect.

What do you do when The Elect know more about you than you do? What do you do when The Elect know secrets about you that affect your life?

That's what happens to Tracey.

Tracey wins the annual scholarship lottery and head off to college at Eagle Elite. What's she expects and what she gets are two different things.

Tracey meets Nixon the first day she's there. He's a complete ass to her. Making fun of her, being mean to her, he makes the snotty rich girls look nice!

Tracey doesn't understand. She doesn't know Nixon, so why would he be mean to her. Right as she begins to figure things out, they change. Nixon is protecting her. She doesn't understand it. He protects her in weird ways.

One minute he's nice to her, the next he's a complete jerk. He says it to protect her. Over and over he humiliates her in front of others. Yet, when someone else is mean to her, he steps in to save her. Then there are the times they're alone. He's amazingly sweet. He does things that put him at risk, just to make her happy.

No talks about Nixon. No one defies Nixon. People call him sir and give him the respect of someone older. Slowly, things start to fall in place.

I have to admit I loved this story. It was not what I was expecting. I was expecting something along the lines of Cruel Intentions. Instead I got something more.

Now, I have to admit, I had figured out part of it pretty early on. There were lots of clues and it didn't take much to figure it out. There were some others things that I don't have enough information on to figure out yet. I'm hoping we'll get more information in the next book!

We are left with a slight cliffhanger. I need to know what's going on, but at least for now Nixon and Tracey are together.

I was a bit surprised by the way Tracey handled everything. I thought she handled things remarkably well. Everything she thought was the truth about her, turns out to be false. Her whole world has been turned up side down, yet she's handling it really well. Maybe, it was because by the time she found out, she had started to figure it out on her own.

All I can say is I'm glad my college wasn't like that! I would have run screaming from there as fast as my legs could carry me!

I received a copy of this from the publisher via NetGalley.

This book was a ride. The types of rides that I love. It played with my head. At about 30%, I figured that the book revolved around some type of mob story, which I love!!! However, before you get any real information about the characters, you are not sure who is who and what friendships are real.

"You have no idea what I know, and believe when I say, your life is worth a hell of lot more than mine. And yes, after tonight, you better believe I know you better than anyone, even better than you know yourself, and I hope to God it stays that way, Trace."

Tracy "Trace" goes away to college after living a quiet and sheltered life with her grandparents. Trace really has not experienced a lot outside of her grandparents' farm. She really has no clue what awaits her in this private college where a group of students who call themselves The Elite rule. The minute Trace steps inside college, she meets Nixon and Chase who point out the "rules" to her. Trace laughs off the rules, but finds out quickly that those who do not follow the rules are "punished" and the punishments can destroy.

"Gossip Girl had nothing on this school."

Trace learns very quickly after her first mistake that she has not choice but to follow the rules that the Elite have in place. There is a twist later in the story where we learn something very interesting about Nixon and Trace. I love these types of stories. I can't even give away the genre since may give away the story and I do not want to do that to the reader. However, I liked the little twist.

Did I feel connected to the characters? Yes. All of them.

Nixon: I did not know what to think of him. He was so cruel. And I mean cruel. He made me cry, but as I began to understand him, I began to like him. I hope in the sequel we learn more about him.

"So the last name Abandonato covers a multitude of sins, is that it?"

Trace: There has to be more. In the sequel, I am assuming that you will evolve especially now that you know the secrets that surround your life. The way she was treated by other students and how she stayed strong, I loved it. She did cry a lot, but I cried with her.

Chase: I love you, but not sure if I love you more than Nixon. Nixon is strong, but you are a rock who is loyal and caring that any girl would be lucky to have. I am just not sure who that lucky girl should be. I am confused.

Monroe: Initially, I was leery of her insta-friendship with Trace especially since she was Nixon's sister. However, she was a great friend even though she had to keep certain things from Trace.

"Monroe. I'm Satan's sister."

Pace of story: I thought about this because I do not like when "secrets" are revealed at 65% into the story. However, I think there was no other option with this book, but to reveal some things later in the book. If the secrets would be revealed early than it would take away the eerie (interesting) feeling from the story.

Positives: The story flowed. I loved how the story kept my interest throughout. The characters were amazing. I also loved all the names in this book. Loved how the author used names that you normally do not hear.

"Son of a whore. I wanted to punch him in the face."

Negatives: Umm...still thinking. I could see how people can either love or hate these types of stories since at first the reader does not know where the story is going. But that is what I loved!

Do I recommend? YES and I am going to read more by Rachel Van Dyken's books! Great story and great writing. She has a new fan!

"So you'd die for me? I joked trying to break the awkwardness.
"Don't you get it?"
My breathing became erratic as he leaned close enough to kiss me again. "I'd give my life for yours."

Bottom line: I am not sure if I will be able to read the sequel without skimming all the way to the end to find out what happens before I even begin page 1. I want that sequel right now, but on the other hand, I am so nervous about what will happen between the three main characters. I love all three of them equally and want the best for them and I do not want history to repeat itself. Ugh...I am too attached right now.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis: For Tracey Rooks, life with her grandparents on a Wyoming farm has always been simple. But after her grandmother's death, Tracey is all her grandfather has. So when Eagle Elite University announces its annual scholarship lottery, Tracey jumps at the opportunity to secure their future and enters. She isn't expecting much-but then she wins. And life as she knows it will never be same . . .
The students at Eagle Elite are unlike any she's ever met . . . and they refuse to make things easy for her. There's Nixon, gorgeous, irresistible, and leader of a group that everyone fears: The Elect. Their rules are simple. 1. Do not touch The Elect. 2. Do not look at The Elect. 3. Do not speak to The Elect. No matter how hard she tries to stay away, The Elect are always around her and it isn't long until she finds out the reason why they keep their friends close and their enemies even closer. She just didn't realize she was the enemy -- until it was too late.

When I started this book, I thought, "this is going to be silly Gossip Girl on steroids". While I was partly right, I was really quite shocked with the twist the author threw in. I mean, I was sensing that something was going to happen, but when it did, there was probably a little of this going on:

Not going to lie, I did guess a little of what ended up happening, but not all. And then I promptly moved on to this:

I very clearly remember laughing. But like, that giggle laugh that you do when something is so crazy and ridiculous and you don't know how else to respond. I just feel like I enjoyed this book way too much. It was one of those books that you pick up because you just want something mindless and fun to read. And boy, did it deliver.

I was so glad that Trace wasn't in love with Nixon from the start. He was a jerk. He was worse than a jerk. And she stood up to him. Which made me oh so happy. I liked their relationship. They were very cute as they started getting to know each other. Nixon's protectiveness was especially adorable. Monroe was a nice foil for Nixon's jerk attitude. She was a fun secondary character that was a nice relief for Trace after all the horrible treatment she got from the rest of the student body.

Ok, wherever they go to school is NOT a real place. WAY too fancy. And not just rich people fancy. This was like, ridiculous personalized menu for lunch fancy. If there's a school like that somewhere, I obviously am just a naïve, poor person. Nor are those students real students. If they are, they all need detention. Or better yet, just ship them all off to juvie. Some of the things the kids did were so terrible, I don't know how the teachers let them get away with it. I mean, I guess if you really just go with the world Van Dyken creates and just suspend disbelief, it makes sense. But dang, I would have brought a Taser to class.

Anyway, all in all a VERY fun New Adult read. Lighter on the sexual situations than most new adult, heavier on the tension. I mean, there was OODLES of romance, of course. Just not outright sex. Some serious situations due to assault and violence, just a warning. If you're a fan of the New Adult genre, this would be a GREAT addition to your bookshelf. Or eReader.

Elite. Rachel Van Dyken.

Arc supplied by Netgalley.

I'd read Rachels' The Bet and didn't like that, it had loads of rave reviews but just wasn't one for me so you'd think I'd avoid Elite. Still, I've read books by favourite authors that I haven't liked, not everything an author writes is going to appeal, so discarding someone on the basis of one book is a mistake I think. Anyway, I read the sample, realised it clearly is New Adult as it says, but that's fine as I enjoy some well written New and Young Adult. So, on with the book. The story outlined in the description is pretty accurate for the start. Trace, farm girl brought up with grandparents has won a scholarship to Eagle Elite College. There's only one each year so she is very privileged. Her gran has recently died so Granddad sends her off from the farm (and cows) in Wyoming and she intends to make the best of the fantastic opportunity. Graduates all hold excellent jobs and she wants to be a high earner to take care of her granddad.
The start is horrific for her, the other kids are snobbish and she's ridiculed for her clothes and ways. Luckily she has a lovely room-mate in the form of Monroe, sister to Nixon the student president who seems to run the school as everyone defers to him. He and his close friends comprise the Elect and there are stringent rules about interaction with them. Basically, don't :) and always defer to their every whim. They set the tone for the bullying and seem to be the epitome of snobbery. Its very exaggerated form of the arrogance and bullying that happens in so many schools, but as time passes Trace sees that beneath the Rules Nixon imposes there's more to him, and that often what seems unreasonable is done for a sensible reason. There are moments when I applaud her bravery in standing up to the Elect, moments when I want to shake her and say "what the hell!!" and moments when as yet another secret comes out I'm wondering what next is going to be revealed. One moment Nixon is a bully, then he's all over her, then he's back to being an arrogant ar-se again. As the book unfolds more and more layers of what started as a simple school/college bullying turns into a huge secret conspiracy, and I'm unsure just who is who. Even Trace is more than she thinks she is along with Grandpa and of course The Elect.
Its a very dialogue based book - they're always my favourite and as usual I had to do some mental maths when the novel talks about school/college. The US system is different - here in UK its generally school til 16, college 16-18 and university after that, but these kids seems to be 18-20 yet its college and I have to remind myself of the difference in ages. The alcohol bit too - here in UK you can drink at 18 not 21 as US. Anyway, once my mind was round that I appreciated the way the novel opened out, and moved from a simple story into one that was very involved and full of secrecy. I can see criticisms about the way the Elect run the school and are more than they seem, but I think we need to bear in mind the target age group of New Adult who are often much more open to that. So long as its written in a fairly believable way I'm all for a bit of leeway, it makes for a more interesting story. There were parts that I felt opened out too quickly, people who went from one thing to another in what seems like a single move, no real build up - granddad is one. Still, its already a decently long story (hurrah- I love length in a novel so I can get really engrossed) so extending their parts would perhaps have made it too long for some people.
I can't find it on the store kindle so can't give a VFM rating but its a lovely 336 print book pages. Its well edited, didn't find many mistakes (not that I really look but if there are more than a few they always stand out) and I'm so glad I gave Rachels' writing a second look. Its a part story with a follow up book, and I'd love to read and review that.
Stars: I'm hovering here, its not quite a five for me but TBH that may be because I'm not target audience, I'm pretty sure the 18-25 age group who like this sort of novel would five star it but its better than just four star, so four and half from me.

I was so immensely surprised by what Rachel Van Dyken dished out with this book. Even though I read the synopsis, I was in no way expecting to read a book about mobsters, let alone young ones. It was a complete 180 from the normal NA books. Good bit of humor in it, as well! Hilarious one liners and crude but sexy comments (always from the mouths of The Elect).

Tracey wins a lottery that grants her acceptance into Eagle Elite College. The children of very important people attend the school and Tracey's just a lucky farm girl. Or so she thinks.
Upon arriving at the college, she's unwelcomely greeted by four guys -The Elect- Phoenix, Tex, Chase, and Nixon. The Elect treat her like she's dirt and it's sad to read through that scene. The whole time I want to cry and punch their lights out right long with her.

Nixon was rough on Tracey. I understand why he was doing it but he could have warned her better. He was so harsh, poor girl! His devastatingly good looks are no excuse for his jerk behavior. He improved as the story went on but not by much. I want to love him because I want to see him and Tracey together, but he needs to step up his game.

I liked Tracey but I kind of pitied her a lot. She came off as very naive and allowed people to walk all over her. She tried to stand up for herself multiple times but there were also times where she just stayed quiet. I think in the books to come, she'll get more confident and independent; once she learns more about her past and her family. I'm not sure how she didn't make the mafia connection a lot sooner though. It was so obvious but I suppose her seclusion to the farm lifestyle hindered her ability to see the obvious.

The Love Triangle
A love triangle is hinted at early on in the book and later confirmed by Tracey. Although the triangle would be intense to see- Chase & Nixon are both equally yummy- it's really non-existent if you ask me. We know that Nixon is "the one". They have a past and a connection like no other. It would be really hard to come between that. No doubt she does have feelings for Chase but it fails in comparison to what she shares with Nixon. Perhaps over time and depending on Nixon's behavior, Tracey could end up falling hard for Chase but that's a long shot.

While Chase was just as rude as Nixon in the beginning, he treats Tracey really well early on in the book. You can tell he has a big heart and he cares a lot about her. I definitely love him more than Nixon.

"Stupid girls. We always need rescuing."
"Stupid boys, we always jump at the chance to do it."
Love it. Hate it. Cute but hey! We don't always need rescuing. Sometimes we just let it happen to give the boys something to do and so they feel special! ;p

Some parts of the book were a bit predictable but still enjoyable. It's well-paced; giving the reader a good mix of action and information.
The author sure knows how to write a steamy make out scene. My oh my! *fans self*
That's about as steamy as it gets though. This book has a good balance. It has romance but it's not the center of attention. There's a very interesting and cool story within it.
My expectations were surpassed and I enjoyed this book.
If you're looking for a different kind of NA book, I recommend Elite!

I really, really liked this one. The synopsis drew me in and I was hooked from page one. If I hadn't started reading Elite so late in the day I could have easily read it in one sitting.

I liked the main characters for the most part. Tracey aka Trace was a bit naive. When she arrives at school she is immediately treated as a charity case. She was accepted into the Elite school after winning the schools lottery.

Nixon and his minions were a bit mean to Trace at first. I really didn't care for them. Nixon seemed to have an interest in Trace, but wouldn't show said interest in front of others. I found that he ran hot and cold a lot. It almost felt that he was conflicted most of the time. Wanting to be around her, but then quickly changing his mind.

Somewhere about 3/4's within the book things sort of took a strange turn. It's like a big secret was revealed and things quickly changed. People weren't exactly who you thought they were. Or at least that's what my impression was.

There is an insta-love element in this one. I'm not a big fan of this. I like it when there is a believable build up for characters to fall in love.

The sexual content is nearly non-existent, but didn't take away from the story.

Elite ends with a pretty big cliffhanger. I found myself saying No, No, NO! I was unaware of there being another book before I read this one. I was sort of disappointed, but I'll try to be patient and wait for the next book to come out. :)

When you reach the end you'll get a little taste of the next book. It's entitled Elect and the prologue is available at the end as a teaser. It left me hungry for more. I've heard it will be released sometime in December.

Overall, I really liked this one. If you're a fan of New Adult I suggest giving Elite a try.

Holy s***...this was sooooo not what I was expecting. And I freaking loooooved it!! Rachel had me crying due to the bullying, I was laughing because let's face it-Tracey is a bada$$ and she's funny, and lastly my stomach was catapulting from all of the tension and angst. I never thought I could hate a character so much for how cruel they are. And then what happens. . . I find myself choosing and debating over who would be the lesser of two "evils". But then are they really evil? Nixon and Chase? Would they do anything for Trace? Hell yes! Rachel gave us a lot of history with this novel with the background of the families, their roles, their level of importance. But Rachel laid it out at a steady pace, which made it not overwhelming. We all know I love angst in the books I read and Rachel definitely provided plenty of that. But more importantly Rachel also made me able to trust in the characters as they remained dedicated and supportive to Tracey and her safety. I can't wait for more...so I'm off to read Elect. Give this a try!!

Wow, I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up this book other than the blurb was interesting. This book was such a refreshing change from what I have been reading. The Elite Eagles school was like a secret society. And you must follow the rules, or bad things happen. We open with Trace, a farmer's granddaughter from Wyoming. She won the coveted prize of being chosen to attend this school her freshman year of college. It's said that the attendees are set for life. Trace couldn't believe her luck. A dream come true. Well, maybe a nightmare. People aren't what they seem. She doesn't fit in, she's bullied from the minute she sets foot on the grounds. Then something changes, she's not sure what or why. Soon her whole life will change, but will it be for the better?

This book has humor, steaminess, intrigue and a lot of bad assness. (Is that a word? LOL) Even though I had a pretty good idea what the secret was, some things still caught me by surprise. I can't wait to see what will happen in book #2, The Elect. And hopefully finally get to know more about these characters.

Trace - Naive farm girl, but she's got sass.
Monroe- Sister of "Satan" but she seems to be pretty cool
Chase - I'm in love! He's snarky, funny, loyal and HOT!
Nixon - I'm not quite sure about him. I really like him but he's kinda scary!

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

OH. MY. WORD. I should have known better than to pick up a Rachel Van Dyken book to read at night. I stayed up until 1:30 A.M. to finish! Because I literally could NOT STOP READING!!!! I kept thinking, just one more chapter...that didn't happen! This story was literally a roller coaster ride that I didn't want to end! In fact, I need the next book, like last night at 1:30, hint hint Rachel! The characters were amazing, I loved Trace from the beginning, she had spunk that I admired and Nixon I loved to hate...until I got to know him! Chase and Monroe, Tex and Phoenix, they were all different and fun as well. I felt like I was a part of the Elite world that Rachel Van Dyken created. This book seriously had me crying (I don't cry easily), laughing out loud and scared as heck. I loved the mystery and trying to put all of the pieces together. I am going to read this book again...tonight! I know, but it was that fabulous! I promise this book will exceed your expectations and leave you wanting more....a whole lot more! Hurry Rachel (PLEASE) because I am dying right now, and I need more Trace, Nixon, Monroe, Grandpa, Chase and Tex. I cannot get this world out of my head, it was so realistically created! The story keeps re-playing in my mind like a movie. BEST BOOK I HAVE READ THIS YEAR! Can I give a book ten stars? I want to, but five is the max so five bright shiny stars for an awesome read!!!

I was lucky and received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I would have gladly paid for this book!

Rating: Cussing, violence, sexual references.

I went into this book totally blind. The description doesn't tell you much and I avoided all teasers and reviews and I'm so glad I did.

"When I met Nixon I had no idea what life had in store for me. In my wildest dreams, I could have never imagined this."

This book is told by only the heroine's POV; Tracey aka Trace. She ends up at a school where things are just not right. They guys are jerks, although nice to look at. Her roommate, who I fell in love with, just happens to be the sister of the biggest jerk of them all, Nixon.

Without giving too much away, this is a book I couldn't put down. The writing and character development, even secondary characters, are great. I love the dialogue and banter between the characters. This has a bit of everything; drama, suspense, love and twists and turns.

Who you hate in the beginning you begin to fall in love with. And who you liked at the beginning you may not like so much toward the end...

Another awesome read by Rachel Van Dyken!

"Do me a favor. Tell your grandpa you invited me so that they don't shoot me on sight. You don't want innocent blood on your hands."
"Are you?" I whispered.
"What?"
"Innocent?"
"No." His voice was shaky. "Not since the day I was born, not since the first day my dad raised a hand to me, not since the first time I watched my mom huddle in the corner, and definitely not since the first time you let me kiss you. No, Trace. I'm anything but innocent."

Wow, Wow, Wow! I could not put this book down once I started reading it. I love it when a book has that hold on me.

Trace Rooks is a farm girl from Wyoming. She entered a contest to get into Eagle Elite thinking she would never get in since the chances are very slim. She gets in and finds out that the life she has been living is a lie. She struggles with this new life and what is right and wrong.

Nixon is the head of the Elite group. He is the student body president. He issues out the rules and gives access cards out to student. He is also hiding a very big secret from Trace. Will this secret bring them closer together or tear them apart?

"I'm thankful that while I've been standing her Nixon hasn't attempted to trip me or knock me off the stage. Guess there's hope for me yet. Moo."- Trace

I can't wait to find out more in book 2!!! This book is AMAZING! It is definitely in my top 5 books of this year! Very well written book Rachel Van Dyken!!!!!

"Screw Nixon. Last time I checked, he wasn't God, nor would he be wanted by Him."- Monroe

I had no idea what this book was about when I started reading it but read it from start to finish in a few hours.

When Trace Rooks leaves the farm and all she's known being homeschooled by her Grandparents she has no idea what she is getting herself into when she wins the lottery to get into this truly "Elite" school. She is bullied, told to follow certain rules, and keep her hands to herself. Little do they know Trace isn't one to back down from any challenge and handles her own pretty well...until she is drugged and then she finds out the boy who she thought was there to ruin her life is really ready to protect her. Things start getting weirder until Trace starts to start putting pieces together and eventually finds out the truth.

The Elite is like Sopranos meets 90210, with a lot of action and trying to figure out who everyone is, you can't put this book down. Rachel Van Dyken is a great author who really invests herself into each character and describes them quite well that you feel like you are watching a movie vs. reading a book. This idea and book is so original, I can't wait to follow the series and see what happens next. There are so many places this book can go and so many secrets I'm sure that haven't been revealed yet. Book hangover, ready for book 2 now please!

I received this ARC from NetGalley for my honest opinion.

This book was intense! There were so much going on, and a lot of secrecy, twists that I certainly didn't see coming!

This was a whirlwind of emotions, good, bad and everything under the rainbow. Our main male character Nixon is a contradiction. There were times were I wanted to punch the daylights out of him, because of the things he did, and when he said it was her for own good and to protect her. It irked me, which I bet Trace also felt. He kept confusing with his bipolar feelings and actions, which in the end after we find out the big secret, kinda makes sense of why he does what he does. Not that excuses anything he did, oh no. But we do understand his reasoning behind it.

The plot though, ooohh that was page turner, I literally sped by with the reading and the pages! I couldn't stop, I had to keep turning thse pages and read and find out what would happen next!

I gotta say this was one of those books that sucks you into their mess of a world, despite your hestitation, makes your love everything, the good, the bad, the messed up and the bizarre. It is one of those book where it literally makes you love it, you cannot resist it, don't even try, why bother? it is just so damn addictive, insanely wierd (in a good way) and plain 1-click worthy!

highly recommended if you're in the mood for some drama, angst, a love story of a unique kind and just plain awesome.

oh this was a no brainer, a total 5 star read!

I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review...

In an effort to please her dying grandmother Trace applies for the Eagle Elite annual scholarship lottery. The changes of getting in are one in a million, however, it seems as though luck is on her side when she is chosen as the recipient. While attending Eagle Elite may not have been Trace's first choice she goes because in the end all she wants to do one day is take care of her grandfather, a simple farmer in Wyoming. Trace knows this school will open many doors of opportunities with good paying jobs, which will make taking care of him not only easier but possible.

Upon arrival to Eagle Elite Trace senses this isn't going to be a normal college experience. It seems as though Eagle Elite is an entirely different world of its own. For starters there is a group of students known as the Elect who not only run the place but have very strict rules, which must be followed at all times..."#1 Do not touch the Elect. #2 Do not look at the Elect. #3 Do not speak to the Elect." The Elect happens to be run by Nixon who as you can imagine Trace is instantly attracted to, and why wouldn't she be he's hot, mysterious and has tattoos. Unfortunately, Trace soon realizes Nixon is spiteful and mean with every one of his actions coming across with the sole purpose of making Trace's life a living nightmare.

From the get go Trace comes across as strong and determined, never letting on to how much Nixon's antics are getting under her skin. She does her best to stand up to him showing her new peers while she may have won the lottery to get there she can belong. However, no amount of determination helps because Eagle Elite is like living stuck in nightmare. The more she gets to know people the more confused she becomes. She isn't sure who can be trusted and she cannot figure out why not only the students but the teachers as well allow Nixon and the Elect to run all aspects of the school. Obviously there are secrets, but what happens when Trace realizes their secrets quite possibly involve her???

This was a very intriguing read for me. While reading I had theories as to who Nixon was and how Trace may play into the bigger picture, but Rachel Van Dyken kept me guessing for the majority of the book. The pieces didn't all come together until the end and then I was left wondering what's going to happen next for Trace and Nixon. Fortunately you are treated to the Prologue of Elect, the second book in the series, at the end and my first reaction when I finished reading was..."no way!!! That cannot happen!!!"

When I read Elite I was kind of in a reading slump, having not recently read anything that really sucked me in. Fortunately Elite broke the cycle. I was so consumed trying to figure out where this story was going, who was Nixon, does her really care for Trace, how is it going to end, is Trace who I think she is? That I had a hard time putting the book down. Those things being said remember this is a fiction book, it's not real. So many times we read books and get upset if they don't have any resemblance to reality, which is why some people don't like paranormal. I cannot say that's me. I read to escape and this was a fun, exciting somewhat dangerous escape. I have no idea if a world like this really exists and I don't care, it made for a very intriguing reality escape.

Trace was awesome. I loved how strong she was and it didn't bother me she was clueless at times. I think she was putting things together herself but at the same time may have been living in denial about what it meant for her. I love how she stood up for herself, always making the best of the situation she was handed. Even though she was put through the ringer she seemed to stay true to herself.

Trace and Nixon have some pretty awesome chemistry and I cannot wait to see more of this couple together. I foresee some serious obstacles. I love how Nixon was written to come across as a strong, determined, take charge jerk of a leader, yet it was all just a front. Underneath that persona he is fiercely loyal, gentle, protective an actual gentleman.

This was my second Rachel Van Dyken book and I was not disappointed, I really love her stories. Take a chance, one click Elite today! For $2.99 you cannot go wrong, in my opinion it's a steal!

Based on the summary, I thought I knew what to expect from Elite. I thought it would be your typical boarding-school paranormal type of book. I was so surprised when it turned out to be something totally different!

I found Elite to be compulsively readable. There were times when I wasn't sure if I even liked the book to be reading it as fast as I was, but I just kept reading because I was so intrigued by the mystery. I love it when the reader is kept in the dark right along with the main character, and Van Dyken uses that concept well in Elite. I was really surprised when the truth was revealed to Tracey.

Tracey's feelings about Nixon ran hot and cold, as did mine. Sometimes I really liked the guy and sometimes I downright hated him. He was full of contradictions and surprises. The love story moved too quickly for my taste, but I did enjoy the romance between the two main characters. There was a Romeo and Juliet theme to the love story, which worked well given the premise of the book. Elite contained a lot of world-building, which slowed down the story at times, but that makes me think that book two will be even better.

If you like contemporary fiction, I'd recommend Elite. I look forward to the next book in the series.

"I love you, Trace. I always have. Just remember that, okay? Hold on to it. No matter what I say or what I do... and trust me, I'll do some terrible things. Just know. I love you. With every fiber of my being."

Review:

Holy freaking cow. This story is amazing! Rachel Van Dyken's book, Elite, has exceeded my expectations.
I love bad boys. And If they are freaking hot? Even more. And Ms. Dyken created an incredible story with an amazing plot, the perfect mixture of mystery, confusion, romance and college life, with bad cocky hot boys... everywhere! I must say, I felt like reading the teenage life of The Godfather.
To not bring all my emotions in one paragraph and not make any spoiler, I would start for the beginning. Saying that I felt ridiculously confused at the beginning of the story is not even close to the level of confusion my mind was getting at. Nothing made sense and I wanted to slap every single boy at the Elite. Yes, Book Addicts, even Nixon and Chase.
It was infuriating how they all made Tracey think she was part of the group, mafia style, all controlling, all "I'm-doing-this-for-your-own-good", and then they would humiliate her in public, to almost feel embarrassing to read, and break her heart. Like I said: infuriating, frustrating... to a I-want-to-kill-them-all level.
What about the main character? Tracey is kind of brave. Why kind of? Because she replied back when Nixon talks, when no one has ever replied back to the leader of the Elite, she touches him when he says not to and she defies him even when the cleverest thing to do, is to just shut up and forget about them. Despite this, Tracey was kind of naïve, too. I meant... seriously? It was kind of obvious that something wasn't right with this hot (even more hot than the guys from Abercrombie) boys who owned the school in every possible way.

"Um I have a lot of homework and-"
"-Nope, you're going. Nixon said you could."
"Oh well, if the great and powerful OZ said I could go..."
Monroe threw her head back and laughed. "Can we please call him OZ from now on?"

Monroe is the perfect friend. She happens to be Satan's sister aka Nixon's sister. Yep, I laugh a lot with that or when Tracey called him "the great OZ" and Monroe laughs and remarks how much Nixon would love to hear that. They have the perfect relationship because Monroe is just a teenage girl, anxious to have a girlfriend to talk to, go to parties and to exchange clothes. I like how she's loyal to her friend because she knows how Nixon really is. They are the sun and the moon. So it's the perfect balance for Tracey: Monroe, her sweet, cute, gorgeous and perfect friend, and Nixon, the evil impersonated, being the sheriff, judge and jury of Elite, with a strange fixation for Tracey and an undeniable physical attraction for the Farm Girl.

"So, does that make you and Nixon a year apart?"
"No." Monroe flashed me a smile. "That makes us twins."
"I'm sorry."
"Oh, me too." We had reached the top floor again. Monroe took my bag. "Let's go, New Girl. People to see and boys to flirt with."

And Chase? Mmm... He's a jackass at first. He won my heart when he did a lovely thing for Tracey, but won also my hatred when he helped Phoenix do a prank to Tracey, a huge, humiliating, "swallow-me-Earth level of prank. However, almost at the end of book, we get to know a different Chase. A free Chase who likes Tracey for who she is and would protect her from anything because she's his friend. I loved how he protected her when Nixon didn't, when he chose another thing (not wanting to do a massive spoiler here) over her. He was there all the time and, I have to say, I see it coming what happened. And Nixon deserves it. I'm not gonna feel bad for him.
The characters are perfectly created. I liked how the characters evolve, not sticking with the first impression you have of all of them.
About the plot... just, wow. I'm beyond impressed. It's like Rachel Van Dyken took all the good things about New Adult and Romance stories and mixed up all together to create this wonderful story.
It has, like I said before, the whole Godfather style, threatening people, going all sheriff around school, but with a college style. I kept asking myself how the teachers allowed the Elite behavior. Then there's a lot of romance and drama. Because without romance and drama this book won't be the same. Then there's a love triangle?! A few bad guys, with the promise of more evil, scary bad guys on time for the second book and the whole mystery going on during the entire story.
I know. The perfect story to read. Yes, Book Addicts, you must read this story. But not only because of that, but because the level of romance going on through those pages makes my heart ache for more of this type of relationship and wants to re-read the book until I wear out the pages (If that's possible, because we are talking about a digital copy here!). And If you are not a hundred percent sure of the kind of love I'm talking about, here's an example:

"Need." He croaked. "I need you like I need my heart to pump blood through my body, like I need air to breathe, like we need gravity. Hell, Trace, you are my gravity. Being with you makes me feel centered and whole, and I'm too screwed up to convince you to want any different. I'm too selfish to push you into someone else's arms when I know mine may be the worst ones for you to be in."

I cannot keep talking about this book because I would give away some huge spoiler here, so I'm ending my review. But... Can you understand now why I'm in love with this story? And the boys?
So, yes, Book Addicts. You do need to read this book. And yes, you do need to read more of Rachel Van Dyken's stories, because I can assure that it would rock your world. And because Elite rocked my world, I'm giving this book a five gorjuss dolls and the highly recommendation of reading, right away, this book.
However there's one final decision to make... #TeamChase or #TeamNixon, Book Addicts? After doing the Dream Cast, I'm having more trouble deciding (I was in trouble, before, but now a little bit more). Read the book and let us know which team are you!

I am truly surprised at how much I enjoyed Elite and I can not wait for the sequel Elect to come out (I am not sure I will make it to November). I could not put this book down, I actually told my entire family to leave me alone so that I could read it in peace. It took me almost two hours to make dinner because I was reading and cooking at the same time.

So the official blurb of the book was pretty cryptic, I had no idea what this book was really about and I have to admit that drove me crazy. I wasn't sure if the Elect were going to turn out to be Demons, Vampire's, Immortals or what (obviously I have been reading a lot of paranormal). I conjured up scenario after scenario of what I would do had I been in Trace's shoes which of course had me completely addicted to story, determined to figure it out.

Once I found out what and who the Elect were it just kept getting better and better.

Tracy "Trace" Rook has won the prized Elite lottery, entrance to the most exclusive college in the world Eagle Elite. Coming from a ranch in Wyoming after being raised by her grandparents following her parents death at the age of six, Tracy has absolutely no idea what to expect. From the moment she arrives on campus she is thrust into a world unlike anything she could have imagined.

Her first encounter is with what she learns is the Elect, four extremely good-looking, arrogant and mean guys who seem to have nothing better to do than to point out her place at the bottom of the totem pole. She is not to look at them, speak to them and definitely not touch them. Her safety depends on whether or not she can follow these rules. While Trace has no idea what this means she soon finds out that Nixon Abandonato the Elect's "fearless leader" controls everything and everyone.

❝...I tried to jerk away. His face lit up with a smile, and honestly, it was like staring at a fallen angel. Nixon was gorgeous. He was an ass, but he was a gorgeous ass. "You feel this?" His hand continued moving up my arm until he reached my shoulder, and then his hand moved to my neck and his thumb grazed my trembling lips. "Memorize it now, because as of this moment, you can't touch us. We are untouchable. If you as much as sneeze in our direction, if you as much breathe the same air in my atmosphere, I will make your life hell. This touch, what you feel against your skin, will be the only time you feel another human being as powerful as me near you. So like I said, feel it, remember it, and maybe one day, your brain will do you the supreme favor of forgetting what it felt like to have someone like me touching you. Then, and only then, will you be able to be happy with some mediocre boyfriend and pathetic life."❞

It's hard to put into words everything I want to say about this book without giving too much away. I try not to do too many spoilers because most of the time the mystery in these types of stories are what really makes or breaks it. I honestly believe you have to just sit back and enjoy the ride when it comes to this book because knowing too much would ruin the experience of unraveling the many mysteries and secrets of the book.

I'm thinking the easiest way is to break it down like this:

Plot: Loved it! ★★★★★ (Can't say any more than I did above).

Characters: ★★★★★ The story is all from Trace's POV which worked great because it added to the whole enigma of Nixon, his friends and the school.

Trace (The Heroine): ♥♥♥♥ I could feel her pain and confusion throughout the entire story. There were times when I wished she could have been a tad bit stronger when faced with the cruelty of the students but I loved how she stood up to Nixon on more than one occasion. I am looking forward to seeing how she grows and develops in the next book and I really want to see her establish her rightful place at school.

Nixon (Our Hero/Antihero): ♥♥♥♥♥ As much as I want to hate him for his cruelty to Trace I pretty much got over it 30% in the book. Learning who he really is and getting an idea of why he does the things he does changed my mind about him. He's despicable but I still fell in love with him (what does that say about me? I'm not quite sure yet) and again I can't wait for more of him in the next book, from the look of it Elect (Eagle Elite #2) is from Nixon's POV.

Chase (The Best Friend/Right Hand Man): ♥♥♥♥♥ Yep the author just had to throw a little love triangle in there for us. I really loved Chase as well even though I felt one of his reprehensible actions in the beginning of the book never got addressed properly. I liked that Chase had a sensitivity and sincerity that was evident from the very beginning, it was easier to like his character right away not to mention he's funny and charming and loyal. While I love to root for the underdog when it comes to love triangles I don't think I want to see Chase with Trace, he makes a perfect best friend but I don't think he's the one for her.

Monroe (Nixon's Beautiful Twin Sister): ♥♥♥♥ I wasn't sure about Monroe at first. I loved her because she seemed so nice and accepting and seemed to sincerely want to be Trace's friend right from the beginning but I couldn't help waiting for her to stab her in the back.

Romance: ★★★★ I just wish it had been slightly steamier. As New Adult I expected a little more in this area (it felt more Young Adult to me) so I am hoping for a bit more in the next book.

So when all is said and done this is definitely a must read for me, I definitely recommend this to those who love New Adult books. I will be stalking the store for the sequel so I can see what happens next. I will also be checking out more books by this author.

I must say that this book reminds me of Sempre, which I loved! Where to beginning? This is a story about a young girl, Trace, who leaves her only living family member to attend a private school called Eagle Elite.

A brief history:
Her parents passed away when she was young and she was raised by her grandparents. Recently, her grandmother passed away thus leaving her with her grandfather. Trace has been homeschooled and lives on a farm. She has been sheltered majority of her life due to secrets that she will learn about while at Eagle Elite.

None of these details in her life (as she knows it) help her on her first day. Me, I am a firm believer that your first day of school, work, and college will define you and the year you will have. Well, Trace's first day sucked and an Alpha male stud, Nixon, who runs the school, is one of the causes of her horrible, no good, very bad, first day.

Trace meets Nixon who is infuriating and whom she fines attractive. He is also, one of the bullies who picked on her the first day. Nixon also happens to be the brother of Monroe who is Trace's roommates. I heart Monroe! She is the perfect supporting character for Trace.

Trace is picked on a lot throughout the book when she is alone, but when she is with the Elite she is rarely picked on. They run the school, well Nixon runs the school, thus providing her with "protection."

Through the story you see Trace grow, you see Nixon become fascinated with Trace (to the point of "I like you") and you will see several significant twist in the story. They are so good, I need to read this again! One twist being that there is another boy who is also interested in Trace and she is very interested in him. What is a girl to do?

I love the twist and turns in this book. I love the flow of the story and I am honestly torn by whom I think Trace should be with and how she should handle the secrets that become present in her life.

The story will have you on the edge of your seats. There is no driving Miss Daisy with this book. It is only breaking speed limits, rapid gunfire, bodyguard, kind of speed. You must be prepared for the ride this story will take you on because; there is so much more to learn about Trace and the Elite.

My first thoughts when I started reading this book were that this sounds like a teen movie, which I'm not usually interested in. The movie that sprang to mind was The Skulls that stars Paul Walker and Joshua Jackson, if you've seen it. Thankfully, the further I progressed into the story it improved, lost its teen movie feel and I eventually started to like Elite.

The writing is good and the story flows along nicely. There is always something to try to figure out or an action scene and even a romance.

The characters are an interesting group and it does take a while to warm up to some of them. The main characters Tracey and Nixon start off with quite a feisty relationship with him pushing her around and trying to make her follow `the rules' for her protection while she is constantly standing up to him about these rules and the way she is treated by him. Their relationship improves as the story moves along and you gain a better understanding of why she needs protection. Once she is aware of the circumstances surrounding the need to protect her, she yields and accepts his help.

The emotion is expressed well in this book however, I'm not sure that I like the way Tracey reacts to finding out that her whole life as she knows it is a lie. She wasn't upset enough I thought and her behaviour was not a typical reaction to news of this magnitude.

It took me a while to write this review as I was not sure how I truly felt about Elite. I liked it sure enough, but I didn't love it. I will read the sequel Elect when it is released as I'm intrigued as to where this story is heading. It ends with a cliffhanger but it is not as abrupt as some that I have read. The story is wound down ready to ease you into the next installment.

If you like books about secret societies then you may enjoy this.

Recommended for a mature audience due to language, violence, sexual references and drug use.

3.5 Stars

Trace is a normal girl that got in a university for the rich and powerful. There she met The Elect - a group of spoiled, rich guys who rule the university and their leader, Nixon, made sure she knows her place from the start. When she wouldn't back down she was bullied mercilessly by almost everyone around her.

Sounds familiar? The beginning of this book felt like the American version of Boys Over FLowers. I have nothing against the manga, though I found it unbelievable at times. This book's the same but I'm glad it turned out to be something more than a knockoff of the manga.

The funny thing is, that 'more' was really confusing at first. I wasn't sure if I was getting a fantasy book where the guys turned out to be some sort of magical being if I'm honest. Their real identities though is much more intriguing than a group of brooding vampires. Nixon was an ass of a bully at first and I hated him and the whole school. I cannot stand bullying and I must warn you, this book is brimming of them.

Trace is a very likable character. She's strong, spunky and was never ashamed of where she came from. It made sense why Nixon and Chase were drawn to her from the start, she was the very first girl who ever stood up to them.

The romance between Nixon and Trace can be considered a bit insta-love but as I said before, it is somewhat understandable because both of them have never met someone so different. The chemistry between the two is strong and I enjoyed their scenes together, although sometimes they make stupid decisions. Its alright though because at the end of the day, they are still very young.

SPOILER! My only gripe about their relationship is Nixon (when he found out her true identity) claiming to have loved her ever since they were little. I mean, when they got separated, he was 9 and she was 6. I can understand fond memories of each other but being in love ever since that very young age? I just don't think separated-since-they-were-young childhood romances are believable. END OF SPOILER

All in all, I found Elite to be a fun and intriguing read with interesting, spunky characters. There are some holes in the story but I am hoping the next book can tie it together. I have read an excerpt of The Elect and I'm really looking forward to it!

I give this book 4.5 elite stars........

Trace (Tracey) Rooks lost her parents to a car accident at the sage of six. She remembers her grandparents relocating her from the city to a farm out in Wyoming. She has grown up being homeschooled by her grandmother and helping her grandfather raise the cows. Trace is now 18, and just lost her grandmother. She has won a lottery to attend a college on full scholarship. The sweet, beautiful, innocent farm girl has no idea how atypical this college is.

We have all heard of elite cliques, elite societies, but not too many elite colleges. Trace has been accepted to Eagle Elite. This is where children of presidents, high-stake politicians, celebrities, royalty, and even the mafia attend. The sweet farm girl is very much out of her element.

The first group of students she meets is a group of hot, beautiful, and full of attitude guys. Nixon (the student body president) is all alpha male, black hair, amazing Adonis body, and has a sexy lip ring . He is rude and very unwelcoming to Trace. Chase, Tex, sand Phoenix make up this small group of "elite" guys that are untouchable and off limits. They literally rule the school. Nixon runs the school and every student has access cards that allow them into certain cafeterias, rooms, and other areas of the school. Nixon has the need to protect Trace and manipulates her schedule to take part in activities with the"elite."

Trace and Nixon don't get along in public, however she can't help how her body reacts when he is in close contact. They are attracted to each other, but find secrets from his past and secrets of Trace that she does not even know exist make their relationship challenging.

This is not the typical girl goes off to college and falls for gorgeous bad boy. This is about a school that is unlike any other school. It is about the Italian Mafia, guns, hot guys, beautiful women, rules (lots of rules), and secrets that when unveiled, you can't put the book down. There is a MAJOR cliffhanger and a short tease of the prologue for the second book. It will make your heart stop and want the second book! I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the second book!! I need it NOW!!!!!

My favorite quotes from Nixon are below:

He licked his lips. "I would have kissed you harder. I would have fought for you more. I don't know, I would have stolen you away, taken your virtue, made myself so permanently etched on your person that every time you took a breath it was my scent that was permeating the air."-Nixon

"You're ......." He stopped swaying and looked away from my face for a few seconds. "You're beautiful... In a way, I've been searching my whole life for you."-Nixon

"Need." He croaked. "I need you like my heart to pump blood through my body, like I need to breathe, like we nerd gravity. Hell, Trace, you are my gravity. Being with you masked me feel centered and whole, and I'm too screwed up to convince you to wasn't any different. I'm too selfish to push you into someone else's arms when I know mine may be the worst ones for you to be in."-Nixon

I got this book with absolutely no expectations. I had never heard of the book before, and I only had the summary to go on. Let me start by saying that this book was not at all what I thought it would be, just based on the summary. That's not a bad thing though! The storyline was just very unexpected.

I found myself really liking the concept of the Elect, despite the fact that their group really does cause quite a few headaches and heartaches for the main character Tracey (aka Trace.) That being said, however, there were definitely times that I wish Trace had been just a little stronger. Granted, anyone would feel pressure and sadness over some of the things she has to endure, but she seemed to really let it cripple her sometimes. I wanted to see her cry less, stand up for herself, say something back to some of these people. The only one she could really do that with though was Nixon, who, at least at first, was the scariest one of them all. Then that brings me to Nixon....

I have to admit I both loved and hated Nixon...hated in the beginning, but then grew to love. He was definitely an interesting character, and I loved his badass sexiness. A guy with power, looks, and attitude... you gotta love him. I also have to give a nod to Chase. I loved that guy too. He was so caring and sweet, but also tough and strong too. I see a love triangle coming in the future.

I was definitely surprised when I learned the truth behind the Elect group. That was unexpected, and a very interesting story concept. I have to admit I haven't read anything like it before. I enjoyed the writing. It was fast-paced and interesting. I read the entire book in one sitting. So despite those few little things I mentioned above, on the whole, I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be picking up the next one. I'm looking forward to seeing where Rachel Van Dyken takes the story from here.

I received this book through NetGalley for an honest review.

I found Elite to be an entertaining page turner. When I think about it I think some of it is a little ridiculous, but it was well written ridiculousness that left me wanting more. Trace has won a scholarship to attend a school for the rich and sometimes famous. When she arrives she is right away tormented by the schools Elect that tell her a bunch of rules she needs to follow. And this Elect is ruled by the class president, Nixon. Nixon comes off as the biggest jerk ever, but he keeps playing hot and cold. And before you know it they are in love.

But it is not all fun and games, and people will get hurt. It is an emotional roller coaster of a journey for Trace as she tries to deal with the prejudices of the school and finding out she may not be who she thinks she is. And no one else is either. This came with many surprises that keep you guessing throughout the story.

The one thing I found really irritating was the triangle that came up near the end. I love a good triangle, but this one hit a nerve for me. It will be interesting to see where it goes in the sequel. I recommend this to the New Adult lovers out there.

Elite by Rachel Van Dyken

Freshman hazing takes on a new connotation!

Trace Rooks has been accepted to a private college; but this is a college unlike any she has seen. Elite describes more than just the type of college, it speaks of the students, their potential and their legacy families. Security is more than tight, it is the law turning this campus into a fortress.

Freshman hazing makes Trace rethink if she belongs there as she is tormented for her perceived lower social standing. Coming from a farm does not translate well among her arrogant, moneyed classmates.

She receives the attention of Class President Nixon Abandonato, who literally rules the school . At first he makes her life a living hell until a mystery unravels as her life unravels.

In an unexpected twist Sicilan families come into play as the past is revealed and her life is endangered.

This beginning of a series is a conflict riddled launch with so much excitement that promises more to come.

This is the best written book I have read all year!!!! I am totally obsessing about this book. It would make an awesome movie. I found a connection with Trace instantly! She doesn't let people walk all over her. She speaks her mind and she is feisty but naive and I would not have her any other way. Trace has flaws like all of us and I think that made her more real to me. I will be honest I did not like Nixon, Chase or Phoenix right off the bat. It took awhile for them to grow on me. I loved Monroe!!! She is so good and nice just what Trace needed in a roommate! She takes Trace under her wing.

Trace really goes through a lot of crap. I was glad Nixon mad things right. He is not perfect and has flaws and a past to overcome. Some of my favorite scenes is the shopping trip and picnic! They were so thoughtful and they really made me smile. I won't lie I did like the car chase. It was thrilling.

I will tell you all I had no idea what I was getting into with this book and I LOVED IT and am OBSESSED with it! I can not get it out of my head. I don't want it out of my head. I think I will die waiting till book two comes out in November. If you read this story you need to make sure you will not have any interruptions. This story has romance, mystery, tragedy, heart wrenching events and so many funny moments. I had moments I was sitting on the edge of my chair and moments that had me cracking up! To be honest I have not felt so many emotions reading a book is so long. This story made me want to jump inside and be a part of it! Elite is original and THE BEST BOOK I HAVE READ THIS YEAR SO FAR!

Just FYI~ does not contain any sex but does have~ blood, violence, cursing, sexual references, and drug use. Not recommended for those under 17.

As I sit here shaking my head at the awesomeness of what I just read I am unsure If I can put into words how well written Elite is. There are authors..and then there are AUTHORS.Rachel is that AUTHOR.

From the moment I picked up Elite to the minute I put it down I was entrenched in the world.
I questioned why I waited so long to read this book, got angry at myself as well since,Well I'm late to the party..and who likes the be late to the party? Not this Blogger. The writing was on point. The characters well rounded and well quite frankly I couldn't even hate Nixon because he does redeem himself. That opening scene with Nixon and The Elect..Wowsa.

I can sense the beginning of a love triangle of sorts as well which gets me giddy to start Elect. I can't even imagine how Trace handled all of it so well but she did and for that she gets an award in this book. If you were looking for a book that has romance, action and lots of sarcasm Elite is That Book!

I swear Rachel is being added to my ever growing list of Authors who have put me into book bliss.I love when Authors do that.I want to hug them and squeeze them and call them george.

So I first fell in love with Rachel's writing with Ruin so I had to give this book a go.

I wasn't sure how I was going to like the Mafia theme but I was surprisingly pleased with it and it gave enough change to spice up this contemporary tale.

I was already in tears as of chapter 1 and it only got better from there.

For Trace she is a farm girl from Wyoming who won the chance to go to a prestigious elite school.

When she arrived she was instantly bombarded with hard ass rules and a gaggle of dicks. At first I thought Nixon was the biggest douche bag but he won my heart in the end.

A modern day mafia style Romeo and Juliet are Trace and Nixon.

This relationship seems doomed within this world, with the family loyalties and promises but first loves are hard to break.

Loved the story, loved the theme and now we are left with a potential love triangle. Argh!!!! I'm still team Nixon even though Chase is pretty awesome!

4 Mafia Loving Thumbs Up!

This is a story with hidden information that makes it an intriguing read. We have Trace - a young girl about to enter college. She has had a tragic youth; losing both of her parents at a very young age. There is a story there but you have to read the book to get it...no spoilers here. The book begins with Trace being driven to the Eagle Elite college where the rich and influential go. Those that go there become very successful and powerful adults. Trace is neither rich nor influential having been raised on a farm by her grandfather. She won entry to the school through an application process.

First impressions of the school leave much to be desired for Trace and very few good things come out of the first day that she is there. The college is more high school like with a click called the "Elect" The rules are very strict with the most important being that you don't touch or talk to them. Trace doesn't get wrapped up in clicks and so she is not really compliant with the rules from the start. This in turn leads to trouble that she is not quite sure how to deal with.

The leader of the "Elect" is Nixon. His mafia like rule is quite believable but Trace is drawn to him anyway and Nixon to her. His cruelty has meaning however lost on Trace at the time that the cruelty is delivered. He is tough and authoritative, handsome and elusive. I grew to love this character as I continued to read.

There is a hidden story within this story that leaves you hanging trying to understand why Nixon is being so cruel yet sometimes so thoughtful and caring. He is the epitome of an oxymoron. The story line was not your typical story for a college group of people; to me it felt more like high school behavior. With that said though, I think the author did a pretty good job telling the story and keeping me interested through to the end.

I would give this book 3.75 stars out of 5. More because it is not a typical college story and it was written with enough intrigue to keep you guessing and interested in these characters. It's not a book that I would go screaming from the rooftop demanding that you read it but I did not feel like stopping or that I wasted my time. Overall...

...but it was nothing like this. At Elite, the new girl gets tortured, teased, humiliated, assaulted, bullied and drugged. Well, I guess, what do we expect when the Chicago and Sicilian mafia is involved?

This is a story of a modern-day Romeo and Juliet. Rachel Van Dyken pulled blinding, ugly tears out of me as I read Trace's tragic story. I have to say thanks for the few giggles that eased the pain at the right times.

This was my first read by this author. I have several of her books, which have now catapulted up my reading list, including the sequels to this book. The writing style was youthful and believable. New Adult at its finest!

Elite was an interesting book. During the first chapters, I was a little confused, but I was intrigued as well, and this kept me turning the pages to learn why things were happening to Trace.

Trace wins a scholarship to attend an exclusive school. On her first day she meets up with Nixon who is the student president. Nixon and his friends are horrid to Trace, and she’s chucked in the deep end while trying to navigate this strange new school with it’s strange hierarchy and rules.

I wondered how Nixon got to be in charge, yet still be at the school. This part didn’t make sense to me. My feelings about Nixon flip-flopped a bit, but as we gradually learn more along with Trace, I started to like Nixon a bit more.

I also liked Chase a lot. He came across as an interesting character. Trace, the heroine, wasn’t a pushover and I liked that about her.

This was a very violent book and is more suitable for older teens.

The story ended with a cliffhanger, which left me wanting to read the next book in the series. All in all, an interesting read that left me wanting more.

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley.

Where do I start? I have to start by saying it is a good thing that the sequel to this book comes out this year and it is already the end of August. I loved this book from start to finish.

I started reading this without knowing what is was about at all and was completely thrown about halfway through when Trace's relationships with the kids from school started to take a turn. Trace had a very emotional time starting her Freshman year at the Elite college. For her being a farm girl and her being thrown into a school full of rich snotty kids I think she did better than I expected.

I was hoping for maybe a relationship between Trace and Chase but I will never tell if that is where things ended in this book, all I will say is that I had a real problem putting this book down during the day and a half that it took me to read it.

This is a new author for me and I look forward to reading more books by Rachel Van Dyken.

Elite
by Rachel Van Dyken

This is book one in a series and let me say it held me captive till the end.

When Trace won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery she was thrilled. This meant endless opportunities upon graduating and the ability to help her grandfather with the farm in Wyoming. She had recently lost her grandmother and she is feeling guilty and scared but knows it is for the best.
Trace knew being the new kid was going to be difficult but never expected what she found at the school and she certainly did not plan on meeting Nixon. He and his band of wealthy, better than thou misfits are more than she had planned on. They rule the entire school up front and behind the scenes. They have many secrets and some of them Trace doesn't need to know especially since they are about her!!!
I can't wait to my paws on book 2!!!!

So this book has me torn. Whilst I did enjoy it overall, Elite certainly has its faults. My main issues were all surrounding the believability of the storyline. I can't go into much detail due to the fact they are all pretty big spoilers so I'm going to be brief. The storyline started off strong but as we started to get into the twists and revelations the plot started to unravel slightly. Once you find out who "The Elect" are it makes absolutely no sense for them to be so powerful in a College that is full of the children of world leaders and other immensely powerful people.

The school itself also didn't make sense, from the people who ran it to the way that all the students acted like they were 13 rather than 18 -22. Oh and they have uniforms.

It just seemed to me that when the first part of the book was written the author hadn't yet decided what was going to happen later in the book and she simply never got around to changing the stuff that then didn't make sense. Throughout this book I felt like I was reading an early draft that hadn't yet been checked for content issues.

I really wasn't sure what to think about the romance in this book. Whilst I love reading about a good dysfunctional romance, Trace and Nixon take dysfunctional to a whole new level. Nixon and his friends do some horrible things to Tracey that you couldn't imagine being easily forgiven (if ever) then once they find out... something, they start to be nice to her and she instantly forgives them. I did like Tracey and Nixon's connection; they have so much chemistry and passion together. At the moment I do not like Nixon as a love interest, whilst Trace could forgive him for being a huge ass I cant that easily. I much preferred Chase as a potential love interest as he appeared to show some humanity towards Trace. Well, until.... Something else that is a spoiler I can't mention.

Now on to what I liked about this book. I loved the authors writing, she captured the emotion brilliantly and I really felt for Trace. I even teared up slightly at one point. Other than the parts that don't make sense and could do with being explained or changed I enjoyed the storyline. I liked both the poor farm girl at a school of rich people element and what it later twisted into. The unique plot was a nice refreshing change to read.

This is the first in a series and I do plan to pick up book 2. Hopefully reading it will have this book make more sense and I also want to see what happens next. I was certainly hooked in and fascinated by the ending. I do think Elite shows a lot of potential for improvement later in the series and for other books by this author. I am looking forwards to reading something else by Rachel Van Dyken. I was unsure what rating I was going to give this book, either 2 or 3, simply because it has me wanting to read the next book I will give it 3.

I couldn't put this book down - I ended up reading it all in one day! I had never read anything by Rachel Van Dyken and oh how I am hooked! I started the book in the morning and kept finding excuses to pick it up again before I gave in and made a cup of coffee and curled up on the couch. The book takes an innocent farm girl and tosses her to the sharks, it shows the good side and bad of human nature and it had me hooked from the very beginning. My heart would race, I would laugh and I even cried! I was completely immersed in the book, lost track of time and couldn't believe when it ended! I had such a good time reading this book that I had to email the author when I was finished! I don't think I can put into words how much fun this book was to read, Ms. Van Dyken pulled me in within the first chapter and grabbed hold and squeezed hard! I can't wait for the second book!

WOW! I didn't see so much of what was thrown at me coming. I like being surprised. There aren't a lot of authors who can do that to me. In appreciation, I tip my hat, say THANK YOU, and give you a warm round of applause! Trace has been protected and sheltered for nearly her entire life...then she wins the lottery (in essence) and starts college at an exclusive school where she meets mean boys and is just trying to get by. Unfortunately, her past (and the life she knew nearly nothing about) comes barrelling towards her and hits her like a mack truck. Suddenly, she's showered with attention, has an ascort and even grandpa shows up clean shaven, toting a gun and with MANY armed guards at the ready. This book is written well, is fairly fast paced and keeps you guessing about who is hiding what information about themselves and their families. It was such a great read, but did you have to have a cliffhanger like that? Hurry up and finish the next one! I'm dying to read it.

By the time I got around to reading this book, I couldn't remember anything about the summary that I'd read, so I went in knowing absolutely nothing. And I loved every second of it. So I'm not going to tell you anything about the plot. I truly feel that if you have no idea what to expect, you will be as drawn in as I was.

This book kept me drawn in from the beginning to the end. In fact, I read it in one sitting because I couldn't stop. I simply had to know what was going to happen next. The only thing that I will say is that I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the end and discovered that it is going to be a series. You will love and hate the characters, you will scratch your head trying to figure it out, and you will enjoy every minute of it.

It is marketed as a New Adult novel, but everything about it feels like a YA novel. Regardless, I recommend it to both adults and teens.

This book is worth the 2.99 that you would spend on it. There is the Korean drama called Boys over Flowers that I LOVE, and this book reminded me of that show in the beginning. Trace enrolls in an "elite" college at the dying wish of her grandmother after growing up on a small farm. Her first day is hell, and Nixon is making sure to keep her there. He gives her the rules that every student must follow, and Trace being the badass she boards the NOPE train and refuses. He makes her miserable trying to get her to bow down to his whim, and she refuses. Score some cheesecake points for this chick. Of course there ends up being a twist and she falls for him, and he becomes her ultimate protector. No there are no werewolves or vampires but there are some really great characters that make you want to read the rest in the series, even more of her series period. Van Dyken is a talented writer, she lets you feel the emotions without having to read the overly sexed crap that came out after the Gray series (Nope no desire to read that dribble). I say try it, I loved it and I think that the book speaks for itself. I have read other Van Dyken books and each one just gets better.

Omg!!!! This book is hot!!! I am so glad this is a series, I have much more awesomeness coming my way. Nixon, Chase, Phoenix and Tex run the the Elite at the private school they attend. Nixon is head guy and boy is he arrogant. Him and his friends torment Tracey when she shows up. She is a farm girl who happened to win a lottery the school has every year. This lottery is both a gift and a curse. This school is not all it seems. Just as are the Elite group. Thankfully Trace has Monroe to help her out. Monroe is also Nixon's twin sister. This book is so good for so many reasons. The Elite guys and Monroe are rich, gorgeous and full of mystery. Loved this book and can't wait to read the rest.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. I haven’t ever tried one of Rachel Van Dyken’s books before and was excited.

I really enjoyed the novel. It was different than what I had expected. I liked the whole concept of the story. It was a different take on the Romeo and Juliet concept and was very intriguing. Although at first I admit I struggled a little bit with determining if this book was set in present time or in the future. The way that the school and certain events were described it almost made me think the book was more futuristic. But then I realized that it wasn’t. I was OK with that it was just a little bit confusing at first. I’m very much looking forward to book two and seeing where the story goes.

OMG! This is one of the best series I have started this year, it had everything! Interesting characters, suspense, romance, intrigue. and a killer backstory. I could not get enough, I had to make myself set my Kindle down and go to sleep otherwise I would have devoured the entire book in one sitting, I started it around 9 pm and by 11 I was almost half through it. I am so glad I already had the other books in the series so I could go immediately on to the next one after finishing this one. Do yourself a favor and if you haven't read this series yet dive right in! Like another reviewer said it is totally the Soparanos meets Gossip Girl, but without all the corny drama, its fast paced and full of great highlightable moments ( I highlight and make notes with my Kindle books all the time. because you never know when you might need a great book quote)

I am still trying to wrap my mind around this one. It was so much more than I thought it was going to be, that it is just...mind-blowing. I thought it was going to be your typical college hookup book, but it is so much more than that, it's almost hard to describe without blowing the surprise and spoiling the whole thing. Well, I'm not going to do that because I think the surprise of this book and where it goes should be every reader's pleasure to experience firsthand. Suffice to say, it is not your average boy meets girl at college, they click, they clash, they really click, they clash some more, they know they shouldn't be together but have to college hookup book. It is so much more than that.

So do yourself a favor and read this book. Hopefully, you'll enjoy it as much as I did. In fact, I think I might have to read it again.

Tracey, a farm girl from Wyoming, won a place in the Eagle Eilte University. From the moment she step out of the car, she was harassed, belittled and make to feel like a fool. AND she stood for it! Why? Why? Why? I am shy and unconfrontational individual, but I would have at least said something to those guys. I wish I could say that it stopped there, but no. It went ON, and ON and ON. Her only redeeming quality was that at least she showed some back bone to Nixon. the leader of the little group.

Now stay with me...

Nixon is the man in charge. Like literally. He is in charge of key cards, who sits where at lunch and everyone bows to him no matter what outrageous behavior he dishes out. AND he's hot. Dark-haired, blue-eyed, exudes-sexiness-with-every-step HOT! I liked him in a not-in-this-lifetimes-will-I trust-you-but-I would-love-to-roam-my-hands-on-your-body-kind-of-way. Yeah, I like my boys to be kind of a-holey, but not this much.

Are you still with me???

Okay, so here's what's happening. Tracey keeps up being harassed, especially after she refuses Nixon's protection. She's put through hell, but she's still there. Then they went out shopping for a new bag (as a result of another practical joke laid on her!) and ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE! From there we're taken through event after event that leaves you asking "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?" over and over gain. That was all that was going through my head until the big reveal and then it was all "OH!" from there.

Hello? Did I lose you?

Yes, I got lost too. Until I figured out that this was a weird-ass modern day version of Romeo and Juliet. You have to read it to understand it. Hell, maybe you'd enjoy it too.

The turn-about point in which I decided to keep on reading was when Nixon finally, FINALLY showed some emotion and let go a little bit, but just a tiny bit. Tracey was still acting like a door mat, but Nixon at least put on the charm, showed some of his true self and confessed some of his troubles and laid everything out on the table. Yes, I still wanted to explore his body (especially that tattoo on his back!).

Was this an enjoyable read? I would leave it for you to decide. I wouldn't say enjoyable since the first half of the book was kind of unbearable as I watched the craziness that was taking place at Elite and what Tracey was put through. However, towards the second half, everything started to make sense. Some of it was way over-the-top and some of it was okay.

Did I like the book? Like I said, it was okay. You just have to be in the right frame of mind to get through it and be curious enough to want to understand what the hell is happening and why Tracey is so special that she needs Nixon's type of protection.

All in all, a very confusing, kinda romantic story of forbidden love between a girl who needs to grow up and a man that needs to chillax and act his age. Very intense, very confusing, a very hard-to-get-through read.

I have to say lately I haven't been a huge fan of new adult/contemporary romance novels. So much cookie cutter nonsense going on. I found this novel refreshingly different. I have to agree with some other reviewers that for a decent portion of the book I was completely baffled over what was going on at this school and in these characters lives. The mystery of who/what/when/where really kept me engaged in what I was reading. When we get the big reveal close to the end of the book I was pleased with the outcome. The book had a nice balance of romance, mystery, and violence. While I admit to a few "seriously!?" moments I overall really enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to the next installment!

Judging from the cover, I thought I was getting a typical NA college romance story. But the book has totally thrown me for a loop. The only problem is not all of it are good, hence the three stars.

I love the writing. Rachel Van Dyken can certainly write. But I wasn't too fond of the characters. They were too much. It's either they're much too weak, in my opinion, like Trace or too cocky and not in a good way, like Nixon. The plot was a little confusing. I wasn't quite sure whether I was reading PNR, romance or whatever. The whole "I have a secret" trope was okay but by the time it was revealed, I was over it.

Overall, an okay read, if you don't mind the whole bizarreness of the story. The writing is okay, so three stars.

Ok I really like this author! I have read a couple of her books The Bet and The wager, So when I picked up this beauty of a book I was impressed that it was completley different then the 2 I already read. This book is enveloped in mystery, family secrets, love, deception, loyalty, determination and innocence! I honestly have to say I stayed up all night, I could not put the book down. Your emotions will be all over the place, you must read (maybe not all night) but defenity a must read. It's the kind of book, when you finish it, it doesn't leave your brain, you continuousley keep thinking about it over and over in your mind. I truely cant't wait for book 2. Read it, it's a lovely change from the millionaire dom and the poor meek sub!

Cover:
I loved this cover when I first saw it. Perfect for the story, but it was still pretty much the same as most other NA books. Two people just about to kiss. Then I saw this...

Same girl and guy, same photo shoot... darn it. And I like this picture so much more.

My First Reaction:
I.WANT.IT.NOW!

What I Thought:
I read this book in one sitting. My house has been destroyed by my three children, they think they are starving, I have yet to fix my makeup and I think the dog is locked in the refrigerator... But it was so worth it!

OMG. Seriously, where do I start. This book, it was exactly what I wanted, what I needed! Bad boy Nixon, sweet and innocent Trace awesome girlfriend Monroe these are the characters I hope and wish for in a book like this one.

"Because we are living our own Romeo and Juliet."

First off the plot was amazing. I loved the mystery and how confused I was in the beginning. It was not a smut filled love story, there was subsistence behind it all, there was a story line that had me hooked. Of course the love story had me swooning the entire way, I am a female after all.

"Everything you have ever known... is about to change."

The characters were well developed. I love Trace, she has guts and is not afraid to laugh at herself. If she was a real, she would be my best friend. She has a mysterious back story, but that just adds to her depth as a character. Nixon the hot bad boy with a lip ring, scorched through these pages. He is exactly why I read these type of books. Controlling to a fault, he has a temper that could set a house on fire, but a good side so sweet your teeth with hurt! Who doesn't love a guy this bi-polar? Chase is wonderful, but to much of a good guy for my taste, best friend of course but not boyfriend. (Maybe the gay best friend... he does like shoes...)

Final Thoughts:
This is what I have been looking for, a book that grips my hear and squeezes, a book so swoon-worthy I nearly fainted, a book I didn't put down until it was finished! Rachel Van Dyken you have fulfilled my book fantasy and more. Amazing!

I received this E-Book for free from NetGalley for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity to read this wonderful book!

Holy s***!!!! This book was so great, I couldn't put it down!! I read it in one day. Very fast read because it was so exciting.

The story is amazing, at the first half of the book, while things were discovered slowly, I was really confused.. sometimes like, WTF? But I couldn't stop reading because I Had to know what the hell whas all about, why so many secrets, why they all protected so much to this farm-girl.

Tracey was no farm-girl. She's different.. When she's in danger she's so funny, I laugh like crazy at one scene when she was screaming non-sense words!! And Monroe, I wish I could have a friend like her. :)

About the male character.. Nixon.. Gosh! He really was an ass sometimes but that didn't kept me from adoring him so much. In the book, Tracey says he really looks like Channing Tatum, and since them, whenever I thought of Nixon I saw Tatum's face!!! SO YUMMY!

IT was a funny book, unique story, I totally loved it!!

I was left for hungry for more with the Prologue of Elect, the next book!! I-NEED-IT-LIKE-RIGHT-NOW!

This is my second book I've read by Rachel Van Dyken and I have become a big fan of hers.

Elite. Where to even begin? I really don't want to spoil one bit about this book so I'm trying hard to get through this. First ill say that you might want to keep a box of tissues close by. I really felt what Tracey (aka Trace) was going through in the beginning - the meanness of the other classmates. Right away Monroe, Trace's roommate, became a favorite. Nixon. I don't know what to say about him yet. Definitely on Team Nixon even if he does things to piss you off. Chase is another one to like.

A must read. :-)

Oh am I in love. As soon as I started reading this book I knew I wasn't stopping until I finished. This book plays at every single one of your emotions and I NEED the sequel. You have Tracey the farm girl who lucked out and was able to go to the most prestigious school in the country. You go there and you are set. For life. Yet she gets there and things are not at all what she expects. Right off the bat she is tormented by school god Nixon not even in your usual bullying way, he is pure evil. And she takes it. And it gets to her big time. This made me want to hate both of them, her for being so weak and him for being so cruel. Butttt you just can't. Especially when she starts sticking up for herself and he shows that he truly does care in his own strange twisted way. And then you find out there is EVEN more. There is a long torrid twisted history. Instantly even more in love....if that is even possible. I love the characters, the story, everything. Please Rachel Van Dyken, I need this sequel faster. Like today.

When I first started reading this book I was like WTF??? Who would stay in a school where you are treated so badly? Then to have Trace's head all turned around. I know they have to keep her out of the loop, but the poor girl didn't know if she was coming or going. Then throw in Nixon. Running hot and then cold with no rhyme or reason. If you want to read a good book that is going to keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat then you really, really need to read this book. I am going to go lose myself in Elect, part 2 of this series. Happy reading :-)

Let's be honest. All of the genres of romance have been written. They've been re-written. This is definitely something new! At least to me.

Without giving away too much, it's a story about giving up a life you were comfortable in in effort to better yourself - only to have that new life ripped out from under you repeatedly. The "rules" of the Elite have you crazy smiling to yourself from the get go. By "crazy smiling" I mean the type you get when you want to punch someone, hug someone, cry for someone, and tell someone off all at the same time.

This is a great read and I can't wait until the next Elite installment.

Here are some facts.

Rachel van Dyken is an amazing author.

I knew that.

The Elite Series is a successful, best-selling, highly recommended and rated book series.

I knew that,too.

I was jumping up and down, when I learnt I’m on the Blog Tour for Entice (#3).

Here is my deduction.

I will love the Elite Series.

Here is what happened with Elite.

I read the book like I was chased or hunted for my life. I must have looked like a maniac, seriously..My head was almost, almost on the tablet’s screen and I may have been panting from the story’s events.

I COULD NOT STOP READING IT!!!!!!!!!!! I AM OBSESSED!!!

While I read it, I am 10000% in the story, right there with the characters.. While I was not reading it, I was thinking about it and what will happen next...I may have drooled over Nixon,too..And I may have cursed myself for not actually reading and simoly fantasising about it during class.. Yep…

Elite, it’s your fault I could not concentrate..

My Review

It is one of the Best Book Series I have ever read.

If you made the mistake of not having read it yet, please go run and grab it...I guarantee you will get hooked on Elite, Trace, Nixon, Chase, Monroe etc…….

Attention!!!
It’s highly addictive, so consider yourselves warned..You will accomplish nothing until you read the entire series….

It is H-O-T, but also romantic.

It is adventurous and dramatic and mysterious; yet it is around teenagers, mmm mostly…

BOOK SYNOPSIS(taken from both ebook and paperback editions)

For Tracey Rooks, life with her grandparents on a Wyoming farm has always been simple.

When I won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery, I was thrilled. After all, my grandma had just died and I wanted to take care of my aging grandpa -- he couldn't be a farmer in Wyoming forever. And graduating from Eagle Elite meant opportunity.

But I wasn't counting on meeting Nixon.

Nor was I counting on the rules of the Elect.

1. Do not touch The Elect.
2. Do not look at The Elect.
3. Do not speak to The Elect.

And worst of all? Don't discover the secret they hide, because in the end, you may just realize... it's about you.

*This is a New Adult Book, blood, violence, cursing, sexual references, and drug use. Not recommended for those under 17.*

My Thoughts

Never let it be said that a book does not have the ability to enrage you to the point your emotions simmer at low boil throughout the entire story, my buttons were pushed from the very idea of "the Elect rules" and even after a few chapters in the shock value of respect being demanded rather than earned still did not set too well with me.

To say that this was your average every day book would be to do it an injustice, in certain areas the boundaries that the book pushed for the New Adult genre were way beyond the norm and in other areas about what one would expect from the age group and character types portrayed in the story.

From the moment that Tracey Rooks showed up at Eagle Elite College she was out of her depth, though her Grandparents had raised her from the age of 6 on their Wyoming farm after her parents died she grew up secure in their love, now 6 months after her grandmother's death Tracey is determined to make the most of the opportunity afforded her when she was chosen to attend Eagle Elite. Determined that not only would she get a good college education but that she would help make her Grandpa's later years more comfortable once she graduated and became gainfully employed.

Tracey never counted on Nixon Abandonato, his irrepressible twin Monroe, his cousin Chase or the rest of "The Elect" students who considered their wealth a reason to give them carte blanche rights over anyone as lowly as "charity case" Tracey.

From her first meeting in front of the dorm rooms where Nixon and Chase make their first appearance Tracey is made very aware that she does not measure up, the snobbery and elitist attitudes are only the tip of the iceberg to what she has to face in the days and weeks ahead amongst the very privileged arrogant young men and women who make up the population of the student body at Eagle Elite College.

This is one of those fast paced reads that keep exposing new secrets about it's characters that will leave you wanting to know more, it has a varied cast of characters that you will choose to either hate or love and it basically centers around one major reveal about Tracey that changes her entire life and the lives of those close to her in one fell swoop.

This is at times an emotionally devastating read that is totally not meant to be for a younger audience, it has a very tense scene where Tracey is beaten and almost raped, the nature of some of the other scenes described in the book are not meant to be viewed by those under 17 either and all in all in my honest opinion despite the age group that it's characters encompass it is more adult oriented than not.

As a first time reader of author Rachel Van Dyken's I feel that she has captured the essence of a very compelling story that I personally would love to continue to enjoy when the next installment in the series is released, whenever that will be.

This was an amazing book. I'm really afraid to say too much because you really need to experience the story as it happens...

Tracey gets accepted into an elite college that has oodles of strange rules. She grew up on a farm with her grandparents, after her parents died when she was young.

Nothing could have prepared her for what she will learn and see at this school!

The story wraps up with an almost happy ending, but it definitely opens up for the next book in the series... The one I'm downloading right at this moment!

Damn, not right at this moment since it doesn't release until 12/10...boo

I freaking loved this book. This is the first book i read by Van Dyken and i best say she is a very good writer. When i first bought the book i wasnt really sure what it was about the summary doesnt do the best job explaining, ( i think maybe to give the book some kind of "aloofness" to attract readers) anyway i was a little skeptical but i thought "Its only 99 cents whats the worst that could happen." Well i needless to say i spent the entire night devouring the book. I just could not stop reading,it took me about 4 hours to read it. But i always decide to read book at like midnight which results in me never getting any sleep ~sigh~ but i digress, The main character, Tracey, Is a completely relatable protagonist, she has that all girl appeal however there were times where i wanted to tell her to stop being such a baby. I cant really say more with out spoiling other than i think when Trace finds out the secrets of the Elect, she kinda under reacted considering she has been lied to all her life. This is an engaging story and it really takes you in and makes you feel and understand the situation with Trace. The other thing i liked aout this book was the author gave the right amount of filler to make her characters real.

BTW i am so sorry that there is no structure in my review, ~_~ stupid stream of consciousness not being structured and what not.

Hmm...I'm not even quite sure what I want to say with this one. ELITE was almost like mobster meets Gossip Girl in a way. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and was anxious to see how things were going to end up.
Favorite quote:
"Tell you what?" I whispered.
"That you need me."
"When hell freezes over!" I snapped.
"Bring a parka, because life's a b*tch and you just bought a first class ticket, sweetheart."

Tracey Rooks grew up on her grandparent's farm in Wyoming. When it's time for college she applies and won a lottery for a coveted spot at Eagle Elite University. Eagle is a very prestigious university in Chicago. Her world is soon turned upside down when she meets Nikon. Even when he is being a jerk, she is drawn to him. Tracey soon finds out that everything she knew about her life is wrong and her future will be nothing like she thought. Nikon is seen as a wealthy college student. He runs Eagle Elite and everyone knows it. Nikon does his best to stay away from Tracey. But like every good plan he finds his life meshed with hers. As Tracey's history is revealed so are Nixon's secrets. Can Tracey and Nixon have their happily ever after?
So....I really am on the fence with this book. I am literally straddling the line between like and dislike. Which means that I think it was eh. Nothing to horrible but nothing that was really great either. I believe that the story has a lot of potential but it just didn't play out very well. I think that the book should either have been a Young Adult Novel or a Regular Adult Novel. I think by choosing "New Adult", it felt like the author couldn't decide which way to go with it. The mob angle was a different story line and I actually like that because it's not something that is written about often.

Nixon is quite the jerk in the beginning, ok a HOT jerk, but still a jerk. It took me a little while before I actually liked him. When he wasn't being a jerk he was actually a nice guy (as nice as you can for the mob). You could tell that he struggled with his feelings for Tracey and always wanted what was best for her. I just could not see him as the "head" of his family. (Now in my opinion, if he was the son of the boss and in college while figuring out if he wanted to stay in the family that would have been more believable.)

Tracey Rooks is an interesting mix. I found her at times to be quite brave (especially with all the bullying) and at other times completely naïve. I did like her with Nixon as I can see why she would be attracted to him. Must admit, I liked Chase! I was really rooting for him. The additions of Nixon's friends make for well-rounded cast of characters. I hope that future books will feature more of them.

With all this being said, I will still pick up the next book because I want to see how things play out as I think the story has a lot of potential. The book reminds me of a daytime soap that sucks you in and you have to keep watching because you need to know what' happens.

I do feel that if this book interests you, you should read it. As you might have a totally different opinion then I do. And I would love to hear about it!

Humph. OK I don't really know where to start with this book as it confused the heck out of me. I have read this author's work before and really enjoyed them. This is a little different and totally not what I was expecting. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I'm still on the fence about that. In some ways it kept me entertained so I guess that is good but the plot line was a little strange to say the least.

Trace, who is recovering over the death of her Grandmother, wins a scholarship to the Elite College. This is a huge opportunity for her but her arrival, when her Grandfather drops her off, is met by the most unwelcoming party if ever there was one. The Elect are headed up by Nixon and his friends Phoenix and Chase. They have their set of rules that must be obeyed which I found to be extremely bizarre. For instance nobody is allowed to touch, look or speak to them. Everyone must comply with their orders and demands to keep the school running to a perfect acceptance. Their first meeting with Trace was absolutely disgusting and why the poor girl didn't go running for the hills is beyond me but then she finds solace with, strangely enough, Nixon's sister who she finds out she is to share a room with. From then on the story just got more complex and bizarre as the plotline unfolded.

When Trace eventually finds some balls and starts standing up for herself it appears this was the magic turnaround for her and The Elect suddenly start to include her into their World. This goes on for a while and Trace finds herself being pulled towards Nixon who initially reciprocates the attraction but then in the next chapter he is back to treating her like a piece of crap for no apparent reason. Yes, this is why I found it a confusing read. I understand this is YA/NA but it was a little immature even for this genre.

However, this confusing behaviour was the least of this books reveals. The truth about the `secret' was totally off the freakin' charts! We find out who Nixon is and what his control is all about. The history and truth about her Grandfather just had me in a whole bunch of WTFery, and do not get me started on the cows!

So did I enjoy this book? Well to be truthful it wasn't my kind of thing but it did keep me reading, if only to find out what the heck was going on. Would I recommend this book? Probably not to the average NA fan but maybe to a younger (not under 17) reader. So overall it was OK but very bizarre, so that is the word that conjures up this book. Bizarre.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to start this series's can tell it's going to be one of my favourite Mafia series ever! It's a completely different take on the genre, the characters are written beautifully, there is a vulnerability to Tracey when she arrives at her new college where she meets Nixon, Chase and Monroe. It's a love story set against the backdrop of deceit and betrayal where everything Tracey thought she knew is a lie. Going onto book 2 now.

This is the first book of Rachel Van Dyken, I have read. I was only four percent in when I knew I would love this book. Especially considering I wanting to punch one of the main characters, yes I'm aware they are not real. I ignored everyone was up way to late reading this book......

I have to read the second one, this book will pluck at every emotion you have, and leave you not wanting but needing more.

I got an offer for an ARC copy of this book. I had been waiting for Van Dyken's "The Bet" to come back to the store so I thought I would try this one. Trace gets accepted into a private "Elite" college and soon finds herself in a new school nightmare. She starts falling for the most powerful guy in her school who just also happens to be one of her tormenters. Her life is soon turned upside down by revelations about her and her family's past.

This story sucks you in. It is one of those "finish in one night" books. Can't wait for the sequel,

This book was very good and I'm definitely looking forward to a sequel. Trace thought she was a typical college freshman, but just after she started at a new school she realized she got a lot more than she was bargined for. I like Trace and Nixon, but I kinda of think she'd be better off with Chase instead of Nixon. I highly recommend this book, and hope I don't have to wait a year for the sequel, Elect :-)

I love Rachel's other books so I went in reading this book fully expecting to love it as I do her others. I was totally right! Elite is so good! The story is a little different from her other bet series I have read but enjoyable nonetheless. Nixon and Chase are both so incredible it's so hard to pick one over the other for Trace. I think now I am just at the point of either one would be great for her. I cannot wait to read book two!!

OK... so when I started the book out, I felt:

1. Apathetic
2. Bored
3. Not impressed

To say that I was NOT HAPPY with various behaviors would be an understatment!

How I felt about The Elect *said with sarcastic finger quotes*:

1. *blink, blink* stare
2. Really? Seriously?
3. You're all a**holes

How I felt about Trace?

1. What the...?
2. *face palm*
3. You're a disgrace to women everywhere!

BUCK UP, GIRL! GET A BACKBONE!!! *stomps off in feminine dissatisfaction*

However!! - (there's usually always a however), my opinion of it all is changing...
but I'm now so:

1. Confused (is it going to be THIS plot, or is it going to be THIS plot?)
2. Intrigued
3. Clueless

So... that's where I am at right now. Lets see what happens next. I have about 45% or so left to go.

~*~*~*~ UPDATE: Finished 07/23/2013 ~*~*~*~

OK... WOW. (0.0) Have you ever read a book and you KNOW you're supposed to be all:

1. Shocked
2. Holy...! What?!
3. I did NOT see that coming!!

But all you can really muster up, since you figured that it was going to be either this or one other scenario, is this:

1. Oh no. I did not see that coming. However did I miss that. *dead panned*
2. *eye roll* How did I not know exactly, from the beginning, that this was where it was going to end up?
3. Wow.

You know that there are scenes that are expected to be read like:

1. Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my GOD!!
2. I can't look!
3. Don't look out the window!

You, however, read them with all the excitement of:

1. Bring it.
2. *yawn*
3. I would have figured you'd do this, Nixon

THE CHARACTERS

Tracey: (Lead Female)
1. Lame
2. Pathetic
3. Sad

Nixon: (Lead Male)
1. Overly alpha
2. Extremely over-developed sense of self-important and ironically, self-sacrifice
3. Completely incapable to effective communication

Everyone Else:
1. Um, you're going to do WHAT to WHOM?!
2. Wow. Sheep much?
3. You need counselling

OVERALL THOUGHTS

This story had a lot of potential that I don't think it lived up to. Prime example, without going into spoilers, there comes a time/scene when Tracey should have been all "I'm gonna lock and load and take you down!" Instead, she decides to go the route of "I need to be stupid, not listen and have you save me."

I mean.. c'mon! Given what her family history ended up being?? - Grow up some, chica! Jesus!

And then there's a situation between her and the lead male, Nixon. When she SHOULD have been "I will cut you!" and "You're an ass! SEE YA!" she instead decided on, "I'm going to pathetically cry over the jerk who made my life miserable. I'm going to NOT listen to what the jerk said at the house yesterday, BECAUSE I'M A STUPID, IMMATURE LITTLE BRAT! I'm going to mope and feel sorry for myself until the reader wants to reach through and smack me into a new story."

How I felt about it all as a whole? Overall, lots of a potential but lack of living up to it. It's not an awful read by any means, but it could be so much more, I feel! I think so much more could have been done with it and that many scenes were flat. The main female (Tracey) was just annoying, weak and you are left to wonder why someone as Alpha as Nixon would be interested in her! I dunno... I was a bit disappointed really.

This book has so many issues that I don't know where to start. It earned two stars only because I have read worse. First, the premise is just not believable. A Mafia infested elite college where the students rule the school is beyond believability or credibility. And the hero, Nixon, treats Trace like dirt in one moment and proclaims that he would die to protect her the next. The entire book is just sophmoric.

As an American with a Sicilian heritage, I found this book particularly offensive. I have read Mario Puzo's books, so I know that the Mafia can be portrayed in a realistic, yet tasteful manner. Unfortunately, I already have several other books by this author, but I have now pushed them all to the very bottom of my TBR list. In fact, I strongly recommend that this author be avoided all together by everyone.

The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because there were some parts I just couldn't get no matter how many time I re-read it. It started off slow and a bit annoying. But I must say, it held my interest and there was never a point I wanted to quit or put it down.
I read the overview and it did nothing for the plot of this book but it did keep the element of surprise.
Interesting plot Miss Dyken!

Thank God for ARC my lucky ARC copy of Rachel Van Dyken's newest masterpiece: "Elite"

From the moment I began to read this book, I fell in love with Nixon. He is sexy and all the bad boy, with redeeming qualities, all wrapped up in one. There was something about Trace that drew you in and you knew there was something hidden deep within, that we were itching to know. Chase is an amazing character who makes you also fall in love with him, but in ways that you are not sure if Trace sees him as a brother or a man she could be falling in love with.

I read my ARC copy in a 24 hour period and never wanted to put it down. Rachel, as always, left me wanting more.

The characters and plot are fun and enjoyable. There is enough action to keep you interested and enough love to make your heart do flip-flops while your stomach has butterflies.

I highly recommend this book! I would recommend it to teenagers around 16 up to adults of any age. The characters are in college and there is some violence, but not near as much as a lot of Young Adult books I have read. (I teach 7th grade Reading/LA)

Great book. Couldn't put down. Page turner and keeps you guessing. Just purchased book 2 and am diving straight in. Always been eerily curious and excitement about mafia and the history of it since i was a child. Also newly obsessed with romance books. This combines the 2 together. I hace now found a new favorite author to add to my list and recommend. This is a big compliment, as my list is short. Can't wait to dive into her other novels that I have also just purchased. Thank you for giving me great books to dive my imagination into and escape from my routine and not so exciting everyday life. Keep writing! You are a talented author with a gift that reach out to "us" readers. I'm extremely happy in took a chance on reading this book. I don't write reviews either, but this author deserves to be known and to share with others her talent. A must read!!

I think a lot of readers will compare this book to the japanese manga series Hana Yori Dango (or the Korean drama series adaption of HYD called Boys Over Flowers) or the Taiwanese version; Meteor Garden. Yep, the manga is so popular it spawned remakes galore, launched the careers of dozens of hunky Asian actors and even kickstarted a wave of music related to the series.

I have watched all three versions and read most of the manga (when the hero protag develops amnesia, I gave up on it), so I think I can safely say, I'm pretty close to an expert on the series. I've discussed with friends what made the story so addicting and what parts of it made our hair curl with annoyance.

Unfortunately, Elite has a lot more of the hair curling part rather than the addictiveness.

First off is Trace aka Tracey, a sweet farm girl from Montana who is so delicate she can't carry her own suitcase. Right off, I was shaking my head. What kind of farm did she live on? A lollipop farm? One with amiable farmhands who do all the work while whistling dixie? Anyhow, it was the readers first hint that Trace is 'that kind of girl.' You know, a helpless, wide eyed girl who will need a lotta rescuing.

So Trace gets into this super selective school, in spite of the fact that she doesn't seem to spend much time studying and dear old gramps drops her off with a hug, some bags and a wad of spending money.

Then enters the F4, ahem, the Elect, a group of four, super rich, sexy and fantastic dudes who rule the school, well, mostly one of them does (his name is Nixon) the other guys orbit his manliness and act as his loyal henchmen.

Nixon spends the rest of the book following Trace around, she seems to be surprised and confused by his behaviour, he all but pulls her pigtails and she's left speechless with bewilderment, 'what does this mean?'

Ughh. Helpless girl I can handle, but helpless, dense and packed with farmer's grandaughterly goodness, No. It was an overload of sweet, like a caramel, fudge, marshmallow sundae topped with chocolate covered cherries.

The revelation at the end, the secret about Nixon and the entire set up of the school was so makjang I couldn't believe how many over-the-top-elements had been crammed into this little book; a birth secret, murder, a harem of sexy men, mafia, it was certainly entertaining, if not precisely what I'd hoped for.

All in all, I wasn't bored by this book, but the style and story left a lot to be desired.

This ARC was provided by Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Elite left me scratching my head. I'm not sure the author knew exactly what she wanted this book to be. It was part Gossip Girl, part Kill Bill, part Godfather with a sprinkle of Romeo and Juliet. I mean 0_o... where to start!?

The entire premise of the book was contrived and outside the scope of reality. If you don't like your books to have a shred of authenticity, then this gem should be on your reading list.

1. A college basically ran by a *young kid* (who doesn't like to be touched and carries a gun) because his family is beaucoup rich so... he can afford to be a mini-dictator. Okay.

2. There's a systematic hierarchy in the school organized to keep some type of order... basically, to maintain the status quo of rich, privileged, white kids at the top of the food chain. "Take for example, a kid from North Korea going to school here. You think they're going to get along with a South Korean? Or better yet, some ritzy American kid?" WHAAAAAAAT? Oh I see, so segregation is the answer. Cool. I mean it's highly improbable that people of different ethnicities, cultures, or religions could co-exist peacefully at institutions of higher education... Right.

3. Then there's guns being toted casually by students. Because the school is unsafe somehow. Not sure how students carrying guns is the solution. In fact, people are unable to go to the grocery store or grab a taxi because it's deemed unsafe. Hmm, so the town isn't safe and the school isn't safe either?! WHY is this school still allowing students to matriculate then? Better yet, where is the FBI and police? Oh wait, the author wants us to suspend all practical thoughts and logic. My bad.

4.There's no noticeable mention of a SANE adult with authority in this book. None. Somehow all the adults cower to this weird kid mentioned in 1. There is not one Dean of Students, teacher, counselor, or police officer with a brain cell included.

5. Due to murders, amnesia, and a necklace, a revelation comes about that the main characters knew each other since childhood. Furthermore their romance is "meant to be" because they made googley-eyes at each other when they were toddlers. What the fudgecake? Surprise twist, they're from warring families involved in "the mafia," (because there's only one mafia... and it exists at a bougie college). Don't be fooled by the Romeo and Juliet pretense folks, the book is still a mess.

6. Oh, but it gets worse my friends. In fact, there's an almost sexual assault committed by one of the Elect. Rational solution? Kick the dude out of school, disown him, and eventually threaten to "rub him out." I mean, who needs a Dean of Students? Laughable.

At the end of the book we find out that "the Sicilians are coming" and all the characters must flee from college! Oh okay. If the previous obvious faults of this book did not make it clear, I shall not be reading the sequel. I'm not sure what this hodge-podge of a "book" was supposed to be but it failed. Most epically.

Im not sure I can be team Nixon or team Chase! I love them both! The book is another Rachel Van Dyken masterpiece! The story is amazing, the characters are strong and the suspense is nerverackingly welcome! Trace is in a bad place with being safe but I'm sure Nixon and Chase got this! A must read!

Mystery, Romance and Drama...this story has it all!

Though I was confused at the beginning of the story, I did not put this book down until I finished reading it. I think the lottery could have been better explained. The book kept me intrigued from the start. I needed to know who Trace was and how her family was tied to Nixon. And exactly who is Nixon and why is he so bothered by Trace?

Ms. Van Dyken, please hurry with the release of Elect. I cannot wait to find out what direction this story will take!

I recommend this story for anyone who enjoys a page-turning mystery with romance, action and a dose of drama.

I loved this story. I was so ready to beat the crap out of Nixon at first but fell in love with him in the end. The suspense of who or what they were kept me into this story well past midnight. I love Rachel Van Dyken, she is a great writer and storyteller and I can't wait for Elect to find what happens to Trace and Nixon.

Yes, let's fall for the guy who has you called a whore, you allows you to be physically and mental abused. Yes, that's true love.

Now for the guy who drugged you and almost raped you, yes let him live. Your joking, grandpa would of killed him, no questions ask

I just can't like her, she just a door mat. There is a point of having some self respect and stand up for yourself. What he says and does, you forgive with a simple I'm sorry. I hope she gets a little pride in the next book.

Abuse not romantic.

Exciting and Surprising. I love the path the story took and I did not see it coming as I read. I love when an author can throw a twist in a story the makes sense but shocks the reader.

I found the book riveting and left me wanting more. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Elect is the continuation of Trace and Nixon's Mafia romance.

I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have had some serious issues with electronics for about six months including losing all my ARC's to my Kindle, that went to the electronic place in the sky and for that I apologize to NetGalley and the author.

Wow. What can I say? I am even more frustrated than I was before. This story had SO much potential and I know that as a Beta Reader we are there to help give feedback or even sometimes catch things however the direction that the author took this story in, I just don't understand. I don't pretend to know a lot about Mafia behavior but I do know from watching all kinds of Mafia, mobster, gangster, etc. movies that "sharing" or at at least pretending to share your love interest is a NO-NO. Men have been killed just for looking at the " Boss' " woman the wrong way let alone letting one make out with her constantly. There were so many different issues but just to keep it simple the story simply didn't gel with me. I applaud the author's effort because this kind of story simply had not been done before but I just can't get past the story line and how confusing the parentage is with the characters. I re-read the chapters several times and I was just as confused if not more. I even went as far as writing notes and just finally gave up. There are very sensual love scenes and one questionable sex scene, drinking, and cussing through out the book. The cover is a little confusing because Trace is supposed to have dark hair right?
Sorry, I take things so literal.

I have to admit that I was reluctant to read this book, but, Wow!!! The energy is electric, the storyline is mysterious, and the characters are very intriguing!! I love the twists and turns of emotions. The setting is very glamorous, yet scary. I loved this book and I can't wait to read Elect!!!

I loved this story so much!! The tension between the characters is crazy hot and intense. It is humorous, but at the same time tugs on your emotions. I loved how it was not completely a romance, there was some action packed in there too.

This was really, really good! I can't wait to read the next one in the series!
Great start to a series, so many questions in the beginning, but towards the middle you start to figure things out slowly.
Bottom line: Want to read the next one NOW!

I'm not a huge fan of surprises unless they're good so I think you get why I didn't have a lovely, friendly, adorable relationship with this book. It wasn't at all what I expected and I am sorry if some of you enjoyed this book, what comes next is solely my opinion and we're all different. Whatever floats your boat, dude! This pretty, unfortunately, did nothing for me.

When I met Nixon I had no idea what life had in store for me. In my wildest dreams, I could have never imagined this.

The story. So we have this weird, weird school where all the influential kids attend and Tracey, being a cow-loving farm girl (seriously, she loved her cows more than herself) with a scolarship, wasn't an insider. She was an outsider intruding in and it did not suit well for the Elite. The four guys, along with Nixon--Tracey's love interest--run the school and organize everything: lunch schedules, give elevator passes, choose who's at the top of the food chain in the school etc. They are the Elect. They also bully people both physically and emotionally. Also, Nixon owns the school and if a teacher sees bullying, they don't even blink an eye. 'Hello Mr. Nixon' is all they say, smile and walk away.

My thoughts. Ok, so here's the thing. I'm not going to lie, I'm tired of the same old formula where the main characters have dark pasts and they need this other half who completes them and gives a meaning to their lives and helps one surpass one's past etc. Does it happen in life? I believe so, but it's getting tiresome. Mad props for Rachel for trying to pull off something different. However, sadly this isn't the only aspect I'm looking for in books, I need more. The whole plot was just plain confusing. The first half of it on my part was spent on thoughts like 'wtf is going on' and 'stand the eff up for yourself' and the latter half was where the first part was explained, but it wasn't enough of an explanation for me.

The MC.. Where do I even start with her? She was a clutz who didn't stand up for herself. When she tried, she got to starr in this huge bullying scheme where she was drugged, labeled as a slut, didn't get to eat, got thrown with eggs and sugar water etc. Oh, and she cried about every single thing. In public, by the way. I don't get why she didn't leave the school. You're bullied that heavily in college. The whole time she had a crush on the guy who ran the school and was the head of the Elect who bullied her. He was bullying her to supposedly protect her and as it turned out later on, he had every reason to protect her. Does it make his actions okay? Most definitely not! Even though when the whole twist came in to the picture, it turned out that Nixon loves this girl, but I mean.. wtf? Look, the premise was truly intriguing and awesome, the way it was delivered lacked believability.

The saddest thing is that I actually want to read the sequel because I want to know what happens next regarding the ending. How messed up is that? I am not, in fact, a fan of spoilery reviews, but sometimes they pay off so I hope that there will be spoiler-ish reviews on Goodreads so I can read them and find out what happens without actually purchasing the book. I hate writing these negative reviews and I understand what could appeal to readers in Elite, but as much as it pains me to say this, I wasn't happy while reading this and I think there are better books out there by this author to be discovered beforehand.

Oh, just a little note here at the end: the teaser for the second book introduces a lovely love triangle of Nixon, Tracey and Nixon's best friend. Are. You. Kidding. Me. I think you get my frustration..

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised with this one. First I hated Nixon and didn't think anything could justify how horrible he was to Tracey. Ended up loving him, but now I'm torn between him and Chase. Can't wait for Elect in November.

I am fairly new to reading novels but this one I really enjoyed. I have read a few books in the past couple weeks and a couple of them were kind of cheesy. I never got that when reading this book. Can't wait the read the next!
