The story is, of course, wonderful. The book itself, however, is a mess. It is very large and uncomfortable to hold. The writing is poorly formatted to the point that something as simple as paragraph indentation is missing. Even on the very first page, the title page, the author's last name is spelled incorrectly, Austin instead of Austen. Basically just a disaster. You're better off buying a different copy from another seller.

I enjoyed the story well enough. The way it was written is where my issue lies. I know that the book is from a time where long, drawn out sentences were more acceptable, but I found it to be exhausting. It was, frankly, a slog that could have been described in half as many words. I did enjoy Elizabeth's emotional dance with Darcy, if nothing else. The end of the books was the best part, for that reason, along with finally running out of pages. Glad I read it. Won't do it again.

This is a book published by the store's self-publishing arm called CreateSpace. The writing is obviously superior, it's Jane Austen. My issue is the construction of the book itself. The font is beyond tiny, the paragraphs are not indented. My first impression is that the company is attempting to compress as much print onto a page as possible and thereby saving some cost of printing.
If you have good eyesight then it may not be an issue for you. If you're older like me, then this is not the book for you.

I tried to start reading the book, but gave up because the English is quite complex. This book is definitely NOT what I would call easy reading. Instead I watched the movie series - it was fascinating. I loved the movie. I would definitely recommend the movie for those who can't seem to get into the book.

I make sure I really think about my review before posting but this book deserves one star in my opinion. I like to read books in true book fashion. This book is larger than normal, like almost 12" in length and bright white pages and the chapters laying anywhere in the middle of the page. It feels like I'm reading a magazine. I plan on purchasing a different edition because it distracts me from the real feel of this classic book.

I ordered this book because YOU SAID there was an introduction by Margaret Drabble. There is no such introduction.
False advertising!
The 4 questions you ask, with the boxed answers to choose from, would be suitable for kindergarten kids. It is the most insulting thing I have seen on the store.com, and that says a lot.

Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen
I read this book for the first time about six years ago and I have just finished reading it again for the second time a few days ago. I must confess that although I was very familiar with the storyline and have even seen a few different versions of the movie pertaining to this book, I am still amazed at how much of my interest the story still held captive.
It seems I glean more and more from the story each time I watch it enacted on television and each time I reread the story. I was able to connect with the main characters in the book on a new level this time through the reading. I suppose that is the reason this book is now considered a classic, because each time it is read, it imparts new information and emotions in the reader.
These classics really should be required reading for school aged children. This book has so much to offer in the way of real life character building examples. The book exposes which characters have personalities and traits that are best avoided (Mrs. Bennet, Lydia Bennet, Mr. Wickham), and others which are worth trying to emulate (Jane Bennet, Charlotte Lucas-Collins).
Some of the characters consistently act on their most selfish desires, while others are almost sage like in their behavior. Most of the characters are normal people living their everyday normal lives, with some always moving towards self-improvement (Fitzwilliam Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet), and others content with minimal life enhancing philosophies (Mr. Bennet).
Character development for each of the personalities in this book is amazingly in-depth. During each rereading, the characters personalities are more clearly revealed and filled-in so that even though some have non-favorable traits and habits, they are still endearing to the reader in the context of the storyline.
I would recommend this book to lovers of classic, historical, and romance books. I give this book a rating of 5 stars, because it is a story that stays with me and has entrenched itself into the minds of all who have ever read it. It has stood the test of time as a favorite and is often quoted by many (EVERYONE knows Mr. Darcy). Pride and Prejudice is beautifully written, has a very original plot, the characters are relatable and feel very real. There are some emotional responses to the book ie, crying, laughing, screaming in annoyance at some characters. You know that kind of stuff.

I had to read Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility for a humanities class and loved it so much I decided to read her Pride and Prejudice book. Not only did I enjoy reading Pride and Prejudice, I plan on rereading it in the very near future. This book is excellent for anyone that is looking for a romantic novel that pulls at your heartstrings, and makes you laugh at times.
Austen paints the main character, Elizabeth's, younger sisters and mother in a very sarcastic, funny tone to where you can only laugh as they make their silly remarks. Elizabeth's "love" life is also something to laugh about, especially as you read about her ridiculous cousin, Mr. Collins. As you get to know and understand what it's like to live in the 1800s you realize that being a woman without wealth is very difficult. Following the life of a family that has five daughters you see the very real struggle it is to get married, and you see why it is so important for them. Such a story makes you grateful that you don't live during that time.
In all of the chaos of Elizabeth's life, you can't help but want to be apart of it. Her luck turns out for the best, her life and the ending give you pure satisfaction, and you find yourself wanting to thank Austen for giving us such a lovely novel.

If I could give this book zero stars I would. I'm not talking about the story, which of course is one of the greatest written of all times, but about this physical book. Please don't waste a penny on this. It appears to be printed out and bound at the local kinko's office. the store really should not even allow this pathetic "book" to be sold here.

The style is so completely different from what we are accustomed to these days. I realise some people may have a problem with the language of the time. I didn't and thoroughly enjoyed the language. It was witty and humorous.
The story stands on its own. There is no handholding, no kissing, no touching between Miss Bennett and Mr. Darcy. They are both proud and prejudiced in their own way. It is the differences and, ultimately, the similarities between Miss Bennett and Mr. Darcy that fuels the romance. If you have never read this story, there is a villan, a hero and more than one romance.
If you're interested in a film version, the 1985 BBC version with David Rintoul and Elizabeth Garvie is the best I've found. I have both this one and the one with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. I've seen all the versions, but these two are the best. I haven't watched the BBC version in a while, but, remember it as being over four hours long, more true to the story and definitely the best.
It has no need of the modern romance writer's ploy of adding graphic sex to fill their pages. But then, their books will probably have been forgotten after 200 years. This one will, most likely, still be selling.
