A lively, entertaining read that was a nice little escape. My biggest complaint is that I didn't like Howe the author made the female protagonist so mentally slow at figuring things out. She seemed way too sharp and determined to be so slow.

Am I reading the same book as everyone else? The book is funny in spots, generally entertaining but is definitely not a 5-star book. I agree with an earlier reviewer who was put off by modern-day colloquialisms used by the protagonist. Every time that happened, it threw me off the plot and took me out of the story. Very distracting. It's an interesting plot line but it takes too long to really engage you. I only kept reading because with all the 5-star reviews, I figured it would have to get much better. I didn't start enjoying the first book until I was 1/3 of the way through. I have no desire to read the second volume.

I couldn't even finish this book. The character's inner monologue is worse than normal cliched inner thoughts: it's filled with pure nonsense about taking down the chauvinists and a complete lack of self awareness. It felt like an alien trying to write a "feminist's" perspective from randomly cobbled together google searches on women.
I had to review because the 5-star reviews are totally misleading. Wish I hadn't purchased.

The story stole a lot of plot from Indiana Jones and Titantic. If you want a happy ending this is not the book for you. The heroine was a bit thick headed that at times I was really quote annoyed. Not a book I would read again.

It's interesting, promising even, and I *am* curious to read the rest. The characters are fun, well-developped, their banter is well-written, and I like the inclusion of the suffragettes/feminist theme, although for the heroine to dress as a man is a bit overdone (but I loved that he called Mr. Linton even when alone with her!)
I was a little put off by:
- The female lead: I had a hard time following her train of thought, sometimes. I do agree that a good character needs some complexity, and that we all do things for strange or even random motives, and it makes a character very human in my eyes, to hesitate, to change their mind. But she was too much, often I'd find myself thinking that she seemed to have forgotten what she was saying/thinking minutes ago.
- the many, many, many repeats! This is this book's only big issue, for me: How many times are we told he has dark eyes? How many metaphors for cold and ice do we have to go through? How many time will we be told how much he broods, and stays silent, How many time will we be told his face is chiseled and perfect, etc. I think the story would gain in strength and fluidity if the writing was crisper, less cluttered by repeatitive descriptions.
Still. I liked it enough to want more. ;)

Our heroine goes into a "rage" at the least little thing and continual wants to choke or strangle the "hero". The most disappointing thing however was the fact that the book just abruptly ended. What is this? A write your own ending?! After over 6 hours of reading, it just stopped leaving several unanswered plot lines. What a waste of time.

Yes, the story length could be reduced by half. Yes, there is a lot of snarky, witty banter. Then, after all this.... Spoiler Alert: Total Cliffhanger. The author could have just ended the story anywhere. Why not just chop the book in half to create Book 1 & 2, and charge whatever price?

Let's cut to the chase. You're here because you want to know (or that you already know) why and how this book could be any different than any other that are on the marketplace. I'm here to tell you a list of reasons why you should buy this book, and why you should support Sir Rob in his endeavors to be a successful author.
Firstly, if you're looking for a strong female protagonist who could care less about the rules of society back in the 19th century, you sure got it. Lilian (or Lilly) Linton is possibly one of most developed feminist enthusiasts that I've ever had the pleasure of examining through words, and could possibly break your nose with even the slightest tap of her fists. She's not the smallest, nor the most petite, but her attitude could rock your world.
Secondly, Mr. Rikkard Ambrose is one of those men that you detest at first because of his pinching personality, but you grow to love him because of how developed he becomes. The complications and mysteries that mask this man are enough to want to finish this book at first glance, but will have you thirsting for more.
Thirdly, the story is absolutely enticing. Just when you think you know what's coming, you're thrown in a completely different direction. It is possibly one of the most unpredictable, memorable pieces of literature that I have had the pleasure of reading.
Sir Rob definitely knows how to keep you at the edge of your seat and begging for more. So if you're into suspense, surprises, complex story lines with developed characters and amazing pacing, this is the book for you. It will definitely surpass any expectations that you may have.

I bought this book off of goodreads.com recommendation. I was highly disappointed. There were too many pointless details in this book for my liking, sub story of her sisters romance took up a lot of the book. There was only one funny part and a tiny romantic part for the main characters. This book completely let me down.

Did not finish this book. I was lured into buying this book based on its success in the Good Reads Best Of Poll and high ratings. Total mistake. I read two chapters and skimmed two. I disliked the heroine. Her behavior was juvenile and annoying. There seemed to be no point in the direction of the book. I quit reading and deleted it from my Kindle. Wish I could figure out how to get a refund.

EDIT, EDIT, EDIT!!!!
This book was out of control and in desperate need of editing. I skimmed the whole book looking for why everyone gave it 5 STARS!!!
Good story idea but much to slow and over thought. This book could have been cut in half.

I REALLY did not like this book. I'm an AVID reader and will read pretty much anything. It was an 885 page book that could have been 200 pgs. It was not very funny, there were a few witty lines about women's sufferage but at no point did I giggle at a single thing. I read 80% of the book and truly did not care if I finished it so I put it down. That NEVER happens for me.

I found this book on Wattpad first. To tell you the truth, it was like finding a needle in a haystack. This book is a hidden treasure, in which anyone who stumbles upon it would be astounded by it's worth. This book follows the strong and stubborn lead character, Lilly, as she tries to follow her feminist beliefs and go against society's norms in Victorian England. She wants to be independent, but how can she get independence when she, herself, must submit to her boss, Rikkard Ambrose? This story was wonderfully well-written, suspenseful, and just in general, awesome! :D

I am simply stunned as to how this novel got an 85% 5 star rating. I found it completely unreadable. I tried to keep going, I kept telling myself that this many people wouldn't be so wrong.... After reading about 10%, I put myself out of my misery and put the book down. It's whiny, melodramatic, and downright painful. Read something else!

In one of my favorite scenes in this book, Lilly Linton, dressed as a man because women do not yet have the right to vote, stops outside a polling place to give advice to a stranger about a house he was thinking of buying in her neighborhood. The man, businessman Rikkard Ambrose, is so impressed with this young man’s willingness to help and give good advice, offers him a job. No, really, he forces the job offer on Lilly. She takes his card and kind of shrugs it off, after all, she is off to vote! She walks in the door of the polling place and doesn’t have a clue what to do, but somehow bumbles her way through voting. Then she makes the mistake of curtseying, which of course is not something a Victorian era man would do, and promptly gets arrested for illegal voting. She’s cuffed and hauled off to jail, waving gaily to Mr. Ambrose while being marched off, saying “See you Monday!” This one scene sets the stage for a delightful romp through Victorian era London, and the beginnings of a rather tumultuous relationship between Mr. Ambrose and the young woman/man that he will only call Mr. Linton, even when it’s obvious she is a woman.
This novel was so much fun! I really got a feel for the era and the difficulties women went through for equal rights. I also liked how Rikkard Ambrose was kind of an anti-hero. He was devilishly handsome, of course, but seriously gruff and kind of a control freak! He spent a good portion of the book trying to get Lilly to quit the job, but when he finally accepts her (although still calling him Mr. Linton) they become partners, trying to solve the mystery together.
I really enjoyed Lilly’s exuberance for life and her need to be seen as an equal. Something that all women would identify with and enjoy reading. I laughed out loud at the great dialog between she and Rikkard, and the 1100+ pages went by pretty quick! Beware the page count if you’re a slow reader, but I think it’s totally worth the time. ❤❤❤❤❣

This is an awesome book! The protagonist is an amazingly strong and adventurous character, and the book is filled with humor. I can personally guarantee that if you buy this book you won't be disappointed (well, unless you like super boring and uninteresting books). I am currently saving up every penny I get to buy this book!

Set in 19th century, nineteen-year old Lilly Linton believed in equal rights. She wanted women to be recognized and that their opinions shouldn’t be disregard just because they were thought to be the weaker sex. She wanted women to have equal opportunity and not just end up as housewives attending to their children and pleasing their husbands.
So a plan was conceived in her mind. A plan that involved her Uncle Buford’s ill-fitting clothes and passport. Cause it was election day and she was determined to cast her vote!
Men thought she was ridiculous, and that she’d only end up the laughingstock of the society, which pretty much everything that had happened when she pretended to be a man casting his votes. Imagine the horror she’d been through, when her wig fell off and was dragged to jain for futher investigation. Imagine her shock when her soon-to-be employer, Rikkard Ambrose saw the whole fiasco and discovered her true identity.
Who was Rikkard Ambrose? A man of immense wealth and drop-dead good looks, he had earlier offered her a job as a secretary. But that was when Lilly was wearing trousers and wig and had pretended to be a Mister. Would she still get that secretarial job once she got released in jail?
One thing was for sure, this was engaging, exhilarating and fun to read. I can’t count how many times I giggled and laughed out loud reading Mr/Miss Linton’s snarky remarks and Ambrose’s equally cranky attitude. This pair could easily detonate a bomb because of the sparks flying between them. If Ambrose was volatile, Lilly Linton was explosive! Oh, and the suspense literally stopped me, too!
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I have to clear my reading schedule for next week so I could squeeze In The Eye of the Storm. I don’t want that cliffhanger ending to ruin me. Argh!

I never expected to adore this book so much! It’s so gripping and intense. It reminds me of a more action packed pride and prejudice. I absolutely love that book; especially the movie.
Lilly was wonderful. I loved how fearless she was, and how she wanted to break down barriers. I sympathized with her. I absolutely cannot deal with mysogynists, so reading about Lilly who lived in a time when the world was filled with them was aggravating, but extremely fun. Lilly is extremely strong, witty, and brave. I admired her reluctance to accept that she was physically and mentally weak because she was a woman.
Mr. Ambrose confused me. He made me want to punch him in the face, but he made me want to hug him as well. It was funny how he gave Lilly a job. He could have had her removed from his building or sent her to prison, but he didn’t. I see you, Rikkard Ambrose.
I’m so glad I had the chance to read this book! The characters were all wonderful. They made me laugh so much, and they also made me cry. I want the next book NOW! I NEED IT.

(4.5 stars) London, early 1900's: 19-year-old Lilly Linton is devoted to fighting for women's voting rights and will go to extremes to make it happen. Rikkard Ambrose is a wealthy, powerful man not looking to help women get ahead. A chance meeting drastically changes both of their lives, as long as she's willing to dress like a man.
Lilly was a fun character to get to know. She's young and has ideas of what her life will be like: Fighting for women's rights and staying out of her aunt's reach so she doesn't end up getting married. Her parents have died and she, along with five other sisters, live with their aunt who is intent on finding them wealthy, respectable husbands. She's required to attend balls, dance and flirt, which she only does if she's being threatened with something worse.
There's a lot of humor. Her relationship with Mr. Ambrose as they write notes back and forth and she ends up on his adventures where she's not wanted but finds ways to help, anyway. She stumbles across one of her sisters carrying on a secret courtship in the backyard. Her descriptions of those scenes had me laughing out loud several times. Along with her observation of a ladder that might be helpful to them.
I loved this book, and because it was long, found myself reading it whenever I had a chance! There are a few minor swear words and sexual tension (which is also funny, since she's experiencing feelings she was not prepared to ever feel) and is a book that I consider clean! It's told in Lilly's POV but there is a bonus at the back which gives more insight into Mr. Ambrose and we get his POV on how they met and the events leading up to it. There's a lot more to learn about his character!
There were some parts that I felt could have been sped up a little bit, which would have made the book a bit shorter and some of the humor was a bit repetitive which made it not quite as funny after a while. It will be interesting to seeing where the story goes next. It ends in a cliffhanger and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the next book!

Immediate Final Thoughts: Wow! That was awesome!
In an effort to keep it real, I’m fully admitting that selecting your next read based entirely off a synopsis can be pretty hit or miss. I’d say most of the time books selected this way will run anywhere from lukewarm to total flop. For that reason, no matter how excited I feel, I can’t help but prepare myself to be let down. Storm and Silence has a really great synopsis. It may not be a long blurb, but it packs a punch. In addition it has an eye-catching cover and a slew of glowing reviews to back it up. Again, despite all, I was both looking forward to the read and preparing myself to be the one voice of dissension. That so didn’t happen.
Storm and Silence had a momentum that only went uphill, starting in the first chapter. In the first few paragraphs of that first chapter, I started giggling. In the proceeding chapters, while continuing to giggle, I began to fall in love with Lilly. Toward the middle of the story I was completely in love with Mr. Ambrose. And secretly, without any awareness at all, I realized that I had actually fallen in love with nearly ALL of the characters! Each one was so completely different from the rest. They were so unique, even to characters I’ve read in other books too. I promise you, there isn’t another Patsy in any other story I’ve ever read.
I’m a character driven reader, so larger than life characters are a very important draw for me. However, that’s not to say that the plot or setting lacked. It didn’t. It was clever and I believe that the story created the perfect atmosphere for those brilliant characters to shine.
I also love a good, drawn out, romance. It didn’t hurt that the feelings between Mr. Ambrose and Lilly were a slow burn. This is not a story about unrequited love. This is a story of two people who would love nothing more than to run as far and fast from each other as possible, if it weren’t for the fact that they believe they’re stuck with each other. And of course Lilly has that pesky little voice inside her that continues to draw her to Ambrose’s side. I absolutely loved that what Mr. Ambrose finds himself attracted to, or at least what I think he’s attracted to, is the life and vibrancy inside Lilly. She is a woman, and yet she continuously outsmarts him, in the most hilarious way possible. In addition, despite his belief that nearly nobody can be trusted, she has proven her loyalty over and over, even when it’s a loyalty that he doesn’t even want. I’m pretty positive that he’s fallen in love with Lilly because of who she is, and not like heroes in other romance novels where all we hear is about is beauty. Lilly may actually BE beautiful and yet we don’t read that as the viewers, we get to read about her mind and her personality, and I love that.
I can’t conclude this review without mentioning that there were sections of the Storm and Silence that could have been edited down. I know there are readers out there who don’t think a book should exceed 400 pages, but I’m not one of them. A good story should be written with as many words as needed to convey something magical. Most everything in this book was necessary. There were just a few specific scenes that I thought, for me, could have been tightened and trimmed a bit to benefit the written emotion. Still, that was the only larger critique I could come up with to prevent my review from just being one big gush-fest.
It’s no surprise that Robert Thier has an underground fan-base already. His writing is witty and imaginative, and completely swept me away. I’ll be doing my very best to spread the word about Storm and Silence, because everyone I know should read good books and this was one darn good book. (With a crushing ending! I need book two, stat!)
Last thought, there was a surprise chapter at the end, a scene from Ambrose’s point of view. It was cute, Mr. Thier. It was also a tease. What we really want is a flipped POV of the drunken scene, and you know it. :)

Firstly this is my first historical romance book, but will it be my last? No i don't think it will, i really enjoyed Lily's story and what obstacles she overcome as a woman in 19th century London.
The story takes place in Victorian London, this was a time were women and their rights were non existent, (you couldn't even vote)
Lily Linton is given an opportunity for employment but on one condition... She dresses as a man as her employer doesn't want the embarrassment of employing a woman.
Lily has always wanted a life were she works and is independent not the life that is expected of women, women are expected to marry and produce children.
Will Lily change her whole outlook on love and life when she meets the mysterious Mr. Ambrose?
For me Storm and Silence is a really well written, you can tell the author has taken the time with the plot and character development my only gripe would be the length of the book and how slow paced in parts but this wouldn't put me off reading anything else by the author as the book as a whole was totally worth it.

What does a suffragette and a chauvinist, have in common ???? Absolutely nothing, BUT it makes for great entertaining reading. I enjoyed this in it's entirety, because it had a little bit of everything that kept me engaged throughout it's 885 pages. It is LONG, but it's also very well written that it makes the pages just fly by.
Storm and Silence is a PG-rated book that I had fun with, it was witty, funny, and enlightening. Although this took place in the past, it was written in a way that can be enjoyed by everyone. Their banter, their frustration, their stubbornness with each other is the main reason that I enjoyed this book. It really had a little of everything, we got the sweet love story from Lilly's younger sister, some spy action and a look into how limited women's rights were. Now my only complaint is the ending, in a way I am glad there will be more, but the cliff hanger left me literally with my mouth hanging open. Suffice to say, I do recommend this read for those who can appreciate the journey and not rush towards a destination. I can't wait for the next one!

What does a suffragette and a chauvinist, have in common ???? Absolutely nothing, BUT it makes for great entertaining reading. I enjoyed this in it's entirety, because it had a little bit of everything that kept me engaged throughout it's 885 pages. I cannot describe how much i LOVED this book !!!! It has everything from romance, adventure, humour, Mr.Ambrose, action, vivid descriptions of the places, culture and life in Victorian London, Mr. Ambrose, and a strong, hilarious and wonderfully written character in Lilly Linton. Did i also mention Mr Rikkard Ambrose - I think i'm in love!! <3 I nave not enjoyed a book this much in a while, I haven't been able to put it down - the author writes it in such a way, one gets lost in the book and forgets about real life for a while!! This was a book i read by chance and thought i wouldnt carry on, but from the first page, i was glad i had found it!! This has gone high up on my favourite books of all time amd i highly reccomend it to anyone. I got the vibes of Pride and Prejudice, North and South, Jane Eyre but with more action, humour, plot twists and turns. And Mr. Ambrose is one very deliciously delightful brooding fellow and loves his 'little ifrit' more than he lets on ;)

Another book about “feminists”, written by a man, that makes women out to be man-haters instead of rational people seeking equality and opportunity. There is no romance in this novel, just an abusive tyrant of a boss than is trying to get his secretary to quit. The dialogue, particularly among secondary characters (e.g., Bella and Edmund) is horrible. The main character’s language, actions, thoughts, and opinions are more suited to a woman of the 1980’s instead of 1850’s. I don’t know why so many people rated this so highly.

I was given this book to review by the author because I enjoy reading Terry Pratchett. First off, this is not my particular genre and was hesitant about reading this book. I am the first to admit I am very glad I did. For those of you looking for a funny, romantic romp through historic London, this story is for you. It is borderline cute with such a sense of fun that reading it just puts you in a better mood. So just pick it up and take an afternoon break, sipping tea and trying not to spit it out when laughing. Kudos!!

I originally found the author on Wattpad, and instantly fell in love with his writing. The Storm and Silence series is a comical adventure with just the right amount of mystery; and of course, a little romance.
As the first book in the series, it takes a chapter or two to wind up but is well worth the patience. Having been homeschooled through a literature-based curriculum, I have probably read a couple of hundred historical novels, but I must admit, Robert Their has the ability to immerse the reader into the historically accurate setting with the grace and skill only a select few authors can.
Thiers character development is phenomenal as well. His characters are beautifully constructed with such definite and vibrant personalities, I often find myself imagining the story like a movie as I read it, watching their facial expressions (or lack thereof in some departments), hearing how they inflect their words and empathizing with the mood of each character.
As a whole, I would rate this book in particular PG (barely) and the series as PG-13 (am I the only one who rate books in terms of movie ratings?). So basically 13 and up; Although I personally would feel really uncomfortable recommending these books to anyone under 15 if there come from a conservative background. All in all, I think this series is one of the top three I have ever read. (and trust me, I read ALOT of books)

Absolutely loved it! Not just another romantic novel, it has the elements to completely transport you to another time, where different social topics and interactions entertain you just as much as the small adventures and a not so usual romance that lacks the sappy and brings out the funny. Well-developed characters, an intriguing and stubborn male, and what I love the most: an equally stubborn, awesome, strong minded female character, specially thinking of the time the story takes place. Couldn’t put it down!

It was way too long. You can tell that it wasn't properly edited, and that it was a combined collection of serials. I laughed and smiled a lot, but I also kept checking to see if I was almost done because it wasn't funny enough to keep me engrossed. The dialogue is inauthentic, and not consistently in keeping with the time period. I'm most upset about this be called a historical romance. That's just wrong.

I had the privilege of reading this book on Wattpad. The author brings to us a really funny main character that defends fiercely women rights. But she has a dilemma: submit herself to be treated like a man, so she can has the opportunity of freedom, or fully support women rights. Balancing these two jobs, our Lilly does a marvelous job at both, while managing to challenge her cold and all business boss. The dynamic between Lilly and Mr. Ambrose is marvelous! The sarcastic and passionate Lilly versus the all mighty Mr. Ambrose so cold, almost like a statue. I think they challenge each other and try to explore each other in a interesting way, while there's an almost invisible bond developing between them.
This book is absolutely amazing and I'm anxious to continue watching the development of this relationship.
All Hail Sir Rob!

This book is so much more than a simple romance novel. Robert Thier takes the time to develop the characters and does one of the best depictions of a feminist I have read since Hermoine Granger in the Harry Potter Series. Lilian is a well rounded woman who both embraces her womanhood and is not afraid to get into action. She is not a heroine who needs to embrace masculine traits to be a hero, and I really appreciated that. Rikkard Ambrose is a "macho" guy, but in a way displays progressive traits in the fact that he accepts a Lilian as his secretary and expects her to keep up with the men and teasingly calls her out. There's so much more I can say but I don't want to spoil the story... just know that its a must read!

I was in a reading rut of sorts. Then, a friend gave me a summary of Storm & Silence. And, 3 lines of it with nothing more than basic character introduction & I was sold. And, I am someone who doesn't really take recommendations seriously. But I am glad I checked this out. I read this during a busy week, in 3-4days. I am addicted. I want my fix of sassy Lillian & Granite-face Ambrose every week now, which is why I am following the sequel. This book, though is amazing. 98 chapters of brilliance. Lilly Linton is so likeable & she has such a unique voice that she became one of my top favourite heroines. And, in a book that is written in first voice from Lilly's POV, Ambrose's feelings are still crystal clear. There is research, there is effort, there is effortless storytelling, there are these characters that you will fall in love with, humour that will make you laugh your head off, romance that will curl your toes & make you dizzy & wished for someone who would call you a little devil in a foreign tongue. And, there is adventure. So, all lovers of romance, comedy, adventure, drama, give this book a shot. 98 chapters might seem like a lot, but when the last chapter does come, you will wish that it would just go on. And, it does in the sequel, In The Eye Of The Storm. A wonderful read. I am so glad I bumped into the world of Granite-face & his little Ifrit.

I’ll confess that I’d not heard of this author or series until the author contacted me, via my blog, and invited me to read and honestly review his book - and that’s just what I’m very happy to say I’ve done. I’m so glad he got in touch as I found this an intriguing story, set mainly in Victorian London.
Lillian (Lily) Linton is smart yet naive, outspoken yet shy, serious but funny, a person of contrasts. Orphaned, she and her sisters have been brought up by their Aunt and forever missing Uncle. Her aunt has the intention of marrying off the siblings to nobility to help raise her own standing in society but Lily strives to achieve independence in an era where this is definitely not the norm The male lead is Mr Rikkard Ambrose, he’s a strident, cold, opinionated, determined, brash, domineering, powerful and convention flaunting man, a rich business man who is used to getting things done how, when and where he wants without question. The interactions between the two leads are laugh out loud hilarious at times.
The politics, espionage, behind the scenes business dealings, mystery, intrigue and danger keep the reader enthralled from the very start. It is a romance, too, but there is a highly appropriate slow build to it and the adventurous escapades are definitely to the forefront of this brilliant novel with a Victorian era setting. The characters, good and evil, are superbly portrayed, making them easy to relate to. The mainly London based settings are emotively portrayed, helping the reader feel the ambience, be that noble or dangerous. The plot is well developed with interwoven strands helping to pull everything together, developing the readers comprehension and knowledge of events.
It isn’t a factual novel and never claims to be, so some artistic licence is taken with a few historical references, but these don’t detract in any way from the story and are totally understandable. I found the whole story an enthralling read, one that I was totally immersed in and didn’t want to leave. The ending is something of a hiatus, one that leaves me desperate to know what happens next in this riveting saga! Once again, many thanks to the author for inviting me to read and review his novel which I have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who enjoys well crafted historic adventures, filled with fast paced adventures and mystery as well as a touch of romance.

Amazingly written, with carefully picked words and phrases that will make you laugh in the simplest of situations. Whether it be from Miss Lilly Linton's sharp elbows and witty personality, or because of Mr. Rikkard Ambrose's pinkie finger twitches and commanding tones, you'll fall in love with this book from the first paragraph. All the characters have twists and hidden sides, and although if you analyze them bit by bit they may seem quite cliche, you will be pleasantly surprised that Sir Rob has managed to turn a historical fiction book into a romantic and amusing adventure of lovable and admirable characters, regardless of what we consider 'cliche'.
This is definitely one of the best books I've ever read. Winner of the Watty's and Story of the Year, this book deserves all the praise it receives, and more. If you have doubts, then don't. It's worth it.

I have been reading the series on Wattpad. Unfortunately, I started with In The Eye of The Storm (out of order). I thought this piece was supposed to be in Mr. Ambrose's POV. Since it is the first book in the series, it was not! With that said, I love the story. It's humorous with continuous hope for the rebellious lady that is Lilly to come out on top! The Wattpad version also has part of the story with her sister which I think, while an interesting story, it could have been it's own separate story! For me it only helped to build Lilly's character and was mostly, but not completely, unnecessary for the story of Lilly and Mr. Ambrose! I am now reading as updates come the third piece Silence is Golden.
Great Job!

If you are in search of a book that you could put down for work, this aint meant for you. A ravishing adventure through the streets of victorian london, with battles of tongues, swords and guns; a cold hearted businessman who is much more than what he claims and a hot tempered tempress with a derriere which she refuses to accept as fat. Prepare your horses, for this is a ride you might want to hold your saddle tight for; better yet, hire a coach or carriage for your entire wellbeing because every page you turn shall steal your breath and plummet your heart towards unknown destinations. Oh! Not to forget a romance so suspense filled that you would want to tear your hair and scream your throat raw; out of happiness or may be pent up expectations. Quite a nonpareil tale with which Sir Rob has stolen every brave heart that dares to venture into the realm ruled by Mr.Ambrose and his strong willed secretary Mr.Linton, or is it Ms. ;)

I read the story on Wattpad, am General of Sir Rob's loyal Ifrit army who'll help Sir Rob take over the world of literature. The book is too awesome, engaging and breathtaking to describe.
The characters are amazingly worked out, and even me, a admitted history grouch, have formed an ethusiasm for the 19th century through Sir Rob's work.
Despite that Mr. Ambrose is the typical mysterious rich business Mogul, his character is built too different from all those other rich guys. extremely private, handsome, and all the time KNOWLEDGE IS POWER IS TIME IS MONEY!
Lilly Linton, heroic, determined, and undoubtly funny, is somebody whom every girl wants to be.
You love Captain Carter, Lilly's friends and fellow feminists, Karim and his pink Tutus (although it seems he's switching them out for an apron currently), even Mr. Stone.
History, humour, and just a hint of romance are united in Sir Robs unbeatable mix, written in a way that will make you an instant addict to his works and will make you admire him as a person and writer.

I love this book! It is so amazing and interesting, the protagonist had me at the edge of my seat with all the work she puts into being free from society as well as Mr. Ambrose, he may be a bit rough around the edges (who am I kidding, a lot rough around the edges) but he becomes a great character with his development.

"Storm and Silence" is an amazing story about a stubborn and willfull female protagonist who supports the cause of her fellow suffragettes in England by proving to her male counterparts that females can do as much as men in a hilarious and unique way. Lilly Linton, who often finds herself in some sticky situations, is a dynamic character who is determined to make more out of life then going to balls and marrying an eligible wealthy bachelor. Rikkard Ambrose is a brooding businessman with a mysterious past who is ensured in all of his decisions. This is truly an amazing story and id recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting read.

One would simply be astounded by the book's worth if you give it a go. Set in the medieval times, where the women were oppressed by the dominating, chauvinist male society , the book focuses on a stubborn feminist who is determined to uplift the position of her gender. the journey of l=Lilly as she is transformed to Mr. Linton and her employer, Mr. Rickkard Ambrose has given me a number of sleepless nights. The suspense, mystery, humor, adventure and romance in the book keeps you hooked until the end and leaves you wanting for more,
I strongly suggest for everyone to buy it and give it a shot. You will definitely not be disappointed

This story, as a teenage girl (using her father's account) is absolutely unique in all ways. It brings light to issues (of that time) and isn't just focused on the romantic aspect of things as a modern sob story would. Robert Thier writes in a way of making you feel the main character's emotions, beliefs and so on. It is a MUST read and complete five stars. I would love to see this book come alive as a movie, as long as portrayed correctly. I stumbled across Storm and Silence on Wattpad, where there is a few gems and a whole lot of garbage. This story was one of those gems. I began reading this story when Rob had only a few chapters out and I look forward to every update after that.
You will find that Rob is an excellent story teller. His writing is usually very humorous, so expect to laugh. He also likes to include wonderful historical tidbits, that give the story a very accurate Victorian era feel.
Unlike so many romances out there, Storm and Silence doesn't travel the well beaten path. Don't expect the characters to do what you want them to do.

Lily is tired by the all the rules that is put on women, tired by the world looking down on her just because of her gender, tired by obeying the rules (or atleast pretending to). She is looking for freedom, freedom for herself and all the women. A lovable main character who is dense at times, but courageous and stubborn.
Mr Ambrose is the best bachelor in town, a mysterious businessman who got famous the moment he stepped foot in London.
What happens when the freedom loving Lily clashes with the ruthless Mr Ambrose. The story takes all the readers in a thrilling, adventurous and romantic ride.

The expectation that this book would be one of those cliched stories where boy falls for girl then girl falls for boy etc is disproved almost immediately. The female protagonist is strong and wonderfully atypical, the male lead is again nothing like you would expect and the storyline had me gripped for the entire book. The author is very witty and has a wonderful grasp of storytelling - somehow managing to describe the tale so well it is as if you were watching a film. Overall I highly recommend this book (and others written by the author) to pretty much anyone who enjoys a really good story.

The plot to this book was all over the place. I think the author thought the dialogue the protagonist had with herself and her "boss" was funny, but I mostly found it annoying. Also, she supposedly thought of herself as a suffragette, and yet she constantly referred to herself as a "girl". The whole thing felt long, over-written and I found myself skimming much of it to get to the essential plot points.

This is honestly the best and most captivating story I've read in a long time. I've never read historical fiction before until this book and I am so glad that I gave this book a chance. It just always has your emotions on edge and the characters are magnificent. Rob Thier, "or Sir Rob" as we like to call him is an amazing author. He truly has great abilities and I'm thankful for him allowing us to read his wonderful stories!

This book is a total delight. I stumbled upon it in Wattpad and it had me hooked. The author obviously has a devilish scene of humor and it shines through in this tale set in 19th century Britain when the headstong Lillian, fighting for women's equality meets the very stiff industrialist Rickard Ambrose. ..The book will also give you a history lesson that you will so enjoy learning. I highly recommend this to you.

This book is quite amazing. I have never read anything like it, it brings humor, a little bit of history, and a bit of romance. It took a while to get to the exciting parts of the book, or the action between Lilly and Rickarrd, but it made the book even more thrilling and exciting. I could not stop reading. Wonderful job.

This book is an absolute gem. It's filled with humor, suspense and makes you want to read more and more. The story is full of twists, and told from the humorous point of view of the protagonist, Lillian Linton, who is one of the most unique and refreshing characters one would hope to find. It's an absolute must read, and deserves so much more recognition. I absolutely love it!

This book is just absolutely fantastic. I started reading it back when there were only a couple of chapters of it posted to Wattpad, and I waited in agony all week for a new chapter to be posted so I could keep reading. I usually hate reading books one chapter at a time, and the fact that I hung on all the way says something. I love it, and you will too.

You know what? THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER. When I read it first I thought this was another cliché HISTORICAL romance in which there is a 'Oh-so-gentle&sweet-lady' and then there is a 'A-classy-gentleman' with family. But man, trust me. This book just gets you. It's deep and I just cannot express it. I just love it. A salute to you, Sir Rob!

The best book I've read in quite some time, one that I always find myself venturing back to. There is a fantastic plot that isn't rushed, and I never find in dragging in between Miss Linton's quips and hilarious remarks. I think just about every reader can find something to love about this book. My mind goes on the adventure with Lilly.

Definitely one of the best books I've ever read - so happy to be able to donate and see this story be published, and now have the chance to hold in in my hands as a paperback, instead of waiting for chapters on wattpad. It can be read by everyone, my parents loved it and I (a teenager) did too! Worth the read!

This is a fantastic book! The characters are funny and original and each of them (or atleast most of them) are charming in their own way. The plot is original and intense and will make sure the reader doesn't put the book down till the last page is read.

Pick up something else to read. This came off as a romance, but seemed more about women's rights and an annoying main character. Plus there's just a load of stupid events. There were some glimpses that this could have potential, but the rest of it was too horrible.

Long and drawn out, there were many laugh out loud passages and enough clever dialogue that I fully expected to write a five star review. Sadly I found I have been duped into reading a very long set up for an ensuing saga. For those of you that don't mind a series as long as the books are stand alone stories this is NOT for you. Steer clear.

I strongly recommend reading the sample before buying this book - I'm very grateful they are now a standard part of online book previewing. I'm writing this review based solely on the sample. I've never done this previously as I felt you really can't judge a book by just two chapters. In this case, because my views starkly contrasted the 93 five star reviews, I felt it merited writing. Please interpret my comments with that in mind.
The heroine in this book struck me as one of the most selfish, spoiled, ungrateful, and immature female characters I've encountered in roughly three decades of extensive reading. This heroine calls her Aunt, who has raised her and her FIVE orphaned sisters from toddler age on, "greedy" because she expects marriage aged girls to get married. This story is set in the 1800s in England. Other than her Aunt's ambitions for her nieces to make great marriages, no other evidence for her greediness is given. Her Aunt is frustrated because none of her marriage aged nieces have married and the heroine remonstrates her for this. The heroine describes her Uncle as a bore because all he does is work- to support her and her sisters. To me, the heroine came across as condescending in her attitude about the prospects of the working poor versus her own. Rather than admiring the poor's valiant efforts to survive their situation, she is dismissive and condescending when comparing her own prospects to theirs. She also fails to recognizes that her "greedy" Aunt and Uncle are all that kept her and her sisters from a similar fate. She's not even grateful for her sisters, saying she can only "stomach" her youngest sister.
This book sample is the antithesis of other historical novels which seem to heap many of the myriad forms of unfairness of the times on at least one or both main characters in the first chapter or two; physical abuse, emotional abuse, desperate hunger, lack of shelter, lack of family, unfair inheritance laws, PTSD from war experience, etc. This would be a refreshing contrast if the heroine in her self-stated awareness of at least some of these issues, reflected on her fortune.
In summary, while I found the main characteristic of the heroine admirable (ambitiousness) and the plot potentially interesting, her other characteristics and POV were so off-putting that I felt compelled to write this review. I'm somewhat surprised to find that a character can strike me so viscerally as negative in such a short number of pages. My conclusion is that the author would benefit from some/more varied beta readers.
