I was excited when I got the email that this book was about to be released Bc I read the whole series straight through and had to move on thinking that was the end. And this book did not disappoint! Claire is finally at NOT but she doesn't escape the trouble for long, and the end totally leaves you hanging. So I can't wait for the next one!

I've been a big fan of the series and have always looked forward when a new one comes out, but I was disappointed with the ending. Very abrupt. I really felt like this was half a book. Hope the next one is better.

I love this series, but this one just okay. It could be because the last few in the series have just been so exciting. This one was just pretty good. Even so I love the characters enough I always want more.

Claire honestly never thought she would be able to leave Morganville, but through a twist of fate, she finally is as she's headed off to MIT. Still it wasn't an easy choice to leave the home she has built with her friends, some of whom surprsiginly enough happen to be vampires. However, all this time she's been living under a shadow, and knows that she needs to have the chance to experience life outside of Morganville to determine what she really wants from life. Only things aren't quite as she expects, as the safety she counted on outside of the vampire's immediate grasp was just a smokescreen. Suddenly things are spinning out of control as she seems to be under attack from multiple sides. Who would have thought vampires would ever become the least of her worries?

I was so incredibly proud of Claire in this book. As the reader, I've seen her strength grow by leaps and bounds from the shy and scared girl we first met, yet her friends have a hard times seeing her as an equal rather than someone who needs to be protected, and Shane is the worst of them all. Don't get me wrong, I love the too of them together, but I think Claire leaving was incredibly important for her to not only learn about herself and what she really wants, but to force Shane (and the others) to see her for who she has become. Shane really messed up in the last book, and while I realize that it wasn't the first time, this time around she knew that she couldn't just let his actions go. He had to learn to see her differently and that she wasn't a pushover any more, or the two of them would never work in the long run. That being said, leaving wasn't easy, and Rachel Caine truly nailed the emotional aspect as my heart really went out to both of them. Still Claire had to figure out what she really wanted in life, and FALL OF NIGHT gave her the opportunity, even if things didn't turn out quite as she had expected.

Prior to this point in the series, things were almost entirely set in Morganville, or at least under a vampire authority's close watch while Claire company were out of the borders. To see the new dynamic with Claire outside of Morganville was both interesting and terrifying at the same time. At least in Morganville, the threat is known, whereas outside of it, the threats' identities are hidden and seem to be coming from all sides. It simply amazed me (and Claire) that she could possibly be in more danger than she ever was before, and yet somehow she was. I really loved how the world view was opened up so much more, especially as it showed Claire that both her action and those of the vampires reached so much further than just Morganville's limits. I think it really upped the ante and ratcheted up the intensity up to eleven.

Sometimes I truly believe authors enjoy torturing readers, and with the way FALL OF NIGHT ended, I have to think Rachel Caine is no exception to that rule. I just cannot even begin to imagine what those events will mean in the next installment. I've said this several times throughout this series whenever she would throw us for a loop, but honestly this time around it's looks to be the game changers of all game changers. Even if the rest of FALL OF NIGHT had not been fantastic, I still would be as desperate to get my hands on the next installment. But lucky for me, FALL OF NIGHT was fantastic, which honestly is incredibly impressive considering just how long run this series is. From what I can see, the next book is potentially the last, but if FALL OF NIGHT is any indication, there's plenty of room for more as there's no sign of this series going stale yet. An absolute treat for fans of the series, FALL OF NIGHT is not to be missed!

REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK :D Wow, excited to start the next and last book of these series!

Review to come :D

I was very excited to read this book. But I forced myself to wait until after Daylighters, the last book in the Morganville Vampires series came out to start it. I knew Rachel Caine would leave the second to last book with a cliff hanger, so I didn't want to be left hanging until I could find out what happens. I don't do well with cliff hangers, so if I can avoid them at all I do.

So in the end of Bitter Blood, we see Claire finally deciding to leave her Morganville friends behind and attend MIT, the school of her dreams. I was excited for this story line but at the same time worried, because I was going to miss all the wonderful cast of characters while we embark on Claire's independent journey.

But I had no reason to be afraid because Rachel Caine found a way for Shane to follow Claire to Boston. Actually I would have liked to see Claire lead a little more of an independent life than she actually ended up with. But that is the due to the fact that trouble ended up following her to Boston and Shane had to step in to help her. You can take the girl out of Morganville but you can't keep dangerous Vampire trouble away from the girl. We met a new cast of characters in this book that which you do not know whether you can trust or not. I specifically found myself wanted to throttle Claire's new room mate Elizabeth, as she was annoying in every single way possible. But at the end I ended up feeling sorry for her and found myself rooting for her. And I was right there was a massive cliff hanger in the end that brings you to question what happened in Morganville while Claire was away and how are they all going to pull together to save the town they love.

All in all this was a bitter sweet book for me. I enjoyed the plot and twists and the action that you find in every single Morganville book, but I knew as I got to the cliffhanger at the end I was one book away from saying goodbye to a group of characters that I had grown to love through out the years.

I’ve always been a fan of the Morganville vampire series so I was glad to see that this book finally had an ending to it. It was a pretty long series at 15 books total. That being said, none of the books were terribly long so they went by relatively quickly.

To put it straight: I have a love/hate relationship with Claire. While I love her because she cares so much and wants the best out of everyone, I also hate her because there are times when she would put herself in a situation that she could have easily avoided if she wanted to. Which ended causing a lot of drama or even a whole book to figuring out how to solve that problem. The one book I didn’t particularly like was book 14, Fall of Night, where she decides to go to Cambridge to finally visit MIT. For some reason, I get the impression that the author was tired of writing about Morganville so she wanted a change of scenery hence Cambridge, Mass. And of course, things happen while Claire is there but if she didn’t go, none of that would have happened. After the end of book 13, Bitter Blood, things have finally settled down, for once, so why did Claire felt the need go to MIT and stir s*** up again? And then of course, Rachel, the author, decided to write two more books out of the whole thing. She could have easily ended things after Bitter Blood but nope, she kept it rolling.

I liked Shane, Claire’s boyfriend. He definitely changed a lot since book one and you can see how much he had changed in these last few books. He thinks more before he rushes to do something and he’s a lot smarter now. In fact, all of the other characters, Eve and Michael, have all been rubbed by Claire.

SPOILER ALERT: I also thought that the last book with the bite and everything, was completely unnecessary. Not to mention, the “cure” too was also crazily nonsensical. First of all, how come that vampire cure just so happened to work on Michael and none of the other dozens of vampires that they were tested on? Second, how come that cure didn’t kill Oliver yet killed the others? There was no logic behind this. And finally, how come a vampire cure was able to cure a “hellhound” bite which was basically a werewolf bite, by the way? That last part made absolutely zero sense. While I liked the series, I think Rachel did a hazardous job on the last one. END OF SPOILER.

Sorry for that spoiler paragraph, I usually try to avoid any real spoilers but I could not help this one. Anyways, moving on to Myrnin, my absolute favorite vampire in this entire series. When he was first introduced, I was a little wary of him because he was basically a schizophrenic with crazy mood swings and I was always worried for Claire for spending time with him. However, he has really changed throughout the series and he seemed almost normal in the last few novels. I think it’s hilarious when he comes in wearing some crazy outfit. And despite his weird mood swings, you can tell how much he cares for Claire. To be honest, it would have been interesting to see a bit of Claire and Myrnin action. I mean, everyone already thinks there is something going on, so…why not? Haha

Overall, I liked the series. I’m just surprised that Morganville has survived as long as it did. I feel like without Claire, the vampires there would have died already. She helped them through so many vampire-related issues such as the disease or the long sworn enemy or the coup or everything else that happened. Regardless, I highly recommend these books. They’re super entertaining and fun to read.

Fall of Night was quite interesting. Claire is finally going to MIT. It’s been her dream and now that it’s happening, she isn’t sure how to feel. Morganville has been her home for nearly two years, but she does need space from Shane, and she knows she’ll regret not taking this chance while she can. But once she gets there, things aren’t at all how she expected. Her BFF is a completely different person, something is off about the professor she’s working for, and there are vampires. You can take the girl out of Morganville, but you can’t take Morganville out of the girl.

I definitely liked Fall of Night better than the previous book, as it finally starts moving things forward again. Claire got her wish to escape Morganville and the vampires who rule there, but she’s certainly not safe. There are strange men searching her room, official types lingering in the lab, and her roommate has a stalker. Not to mention that someone isn’t really who they say they are and just want to use Claire for her genius. A lot is happening even though Claire is suppose to be away from all of the vampire drama. It’s like she’s a magnet for trouble.

The one thing that I didn’t really like about Fall of Night was Shane. He follows Claire to Cambridge. I don’t really get why. Yes, he misses her, but still. It was weird. Especially since he agreed to give her space, and yet he’s practically stalking her at her new home. I was hoping that the alternating POV would keep us up to date on what’s happening in Morganville, but that wasn’t the case at all.

Fall of Night was a good sequel, and it had me pumped up for the finale. Claire got a taste of freedom, but it wasn’t what it was cracked up to be. So it’s time to head home, and hopefully find freedom and safety there.

Following from the events of `Bitter Blood', when lives were lost and friendships put to the test, Claire Danvers is following-through with her decision to leave Morganville, and attend the MIT graduate program in Cambridge.

Claire has made the monumental decision to leave her friends behind - including newlyweds Michael and Eve, who want to start acting more like a married couple (less roommates should help with that). But Claire is also determined to leave her beloved boyfriend, Shane, behind too. Because Shane made the worst mistake not too long ago, believing a lie that Michael told about his relationship with Claire - and now she needs to be away from the most important person in her life, to try and find who she is without him.

In Cambridge, Claire has moved into an apartment with her pre-Morganville best friend, Liz. But straight away Claire is off-balanced by the fact that her blue room apartment is nothing as homely as the Glass House. Then there's the fact that Liz has turned into a flake, dressing in schoolgirl outfits and decidedly disinterested in books. She also has a stalker - a man named Derrick who keeps an unwanted vigil of their house.

Claire will be assisting a Professor Irene Anderson during her MIT graduate program - another ex-Morganville resident, and another assistant who survived tutelage under Myrnin. They will be working on Claire's VLAD machine - a mood-altering device that should help humans with unruly vamps.

Meanwhile, in Morganville, Shane can't stop missing Claire (and worrying about her). He also feels like the awkward third-wheel in Michael and Eve's marriage. So he makes the momentous decision to drive to Cambridge and keep an eye on Claire ... from a distance.

`Fall of Night' is the fourteenth book in Rachel Caine's young adult paranormal series, `Morganville Vampires.'

It always happens that when I crack open the latest `Morganville' instalment, a small part of me worries that this might be the book to mark my waning interest. There aren't many series that have been around since 2006 with consistent releases, and still manage to not only maintain, but consistently grow its fan-base ... so I always go into `Morganville', with a small pessimistic part of me that's waiting for the magic to dissipate. But I'm happy to report that `Fall of Night' is not that book - and, actually, it looks like Rachel Caine has just given this series a second-wind...

In `Fall of Night', Caine is again taking the characters out of Morganville. She did this in book eight, `Kiss of Death' - taking the awesome foursome on a killer (literally) road-trip that opened their eyes to the fact that the grass is not necessarily greener on the vampireless side. The big difference, of course, is that in this 14th book, Claire is all on her lonesome - and by choice. Not only is she outside of Morganville, but she has left her friends behind too.

Now, Claire has always been a strong, remarkable young woman. She prefers brains over brawn (but also knows how to throw a punch) and she's a very level-headed, quick-witted warrior. But, ever since Michael, Eve and Shane gave her the safety of the Glass House in book one, she has been part of a unit. Now that we're 14 books in, I can see it makes a lot of sense for Caine to take Claire out of that home-base and show fans what she has become while living in Morganville. With Claire's independence, fans can really appreciate that she loses none of her strength away from the awesome-foursome friendship unit. She might lose a little of her heart, but even away from Morganville Claire has a steel backbone and strong moral compass.

The heart though, is another matter ... but again it makes sense that we see Claire and Shane put to the test. They've been an item for a long, long time and have become very co-dependent - so it was actually really nice for Caine to separate them and see how they go. Of course, it's mostly Claire doing the separating since Shane can't stay away for long (it's more protective than stalkerish though - honest!) but it was nice to reaffirm why they are together, what remains when they are apart and the strength that binds them. For anyone doubting Claire and Shane being together for so long, and at such a young age - I think Caine puts a lot of those worries to bed in this book.

And this is also a book of new faces. Claire and Shane both befriend two Cambridge locals who work with Professor Anderson, and at the bar where Shane gets a job as busboy. Pete is a bouncer and rough teddy-bear, then there's Jesse - a fiery red head with killer curves and a badass streak a mile long. When Derrick, Liz's stalker, starts encroaching on Claire's new territory, Pete and Jesse are there in lieu of Michael, Eve and Shane to have her back.

I loved these two, especially Jesse. She poses an interesting twist in the story, and while some fans will probably grumble about her appearance I can't wait to see how she shakes things up for a certain someone....

Caine is also touching on themes of the eighth book, `Kiss of Night' - in that the Morganville kids learn that the outside world is just as tough and full of danger. Shane, especially, is somewhat surprised by the violence he encounters from regular humans.

The difference with `Fall of Night', however, is that some of the outside violence may be leaking into Morganville ... but fans will just have to wait for `Daylighters' releasing in November to find out more about that.

All in all `Fall of Night' was another Morganville book that got my heart racing, my hands sweaty and my interest piqued. What can I say? Rachel Caine has done it again.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: Dark, funny, action-packed drama. Be prepared for a seriously crazy cliffhanger.

Opening Sentence: The billboard at the border of Morganville hadn’t changed since Claire had first driven past it on the way into town at the tender age of sixteen.

The Review:

Fall of Night is the penultimate novel in the Morganville Vampire series. This is the first novel in this series that I have read but I have read Rachel Caine’s Weather Warden Series which I thoroughly enjoyed. As someone who has never read this series before I was never lost in what was happening in the story, I do wish that I had a better understanding of the overall story. One day I will go back and read the rest of this series from the beginning. The first half of the story was a little slow, setting up what Claire in doing in Boston, but when all Hell breaks loose the story is non-stop action until the ending. Fall of Night could have been a standalone story up until the crazy cliffhanger ending!

This story starts with Claire leaving Morganville. She wants to get away and see if she can make it in the real world without all the vampire madness. She also wants to step away from her boyfriend Shane. She wants to know if what she feels for him is real and also to kind of torment him for some bad decisions he made which included not trusting her. Claire is going to MIT in Boston for an independent study program. She wants to use her smarts to create something good.

Shane just can’t let Claire go without backup so he secretly follows her up to Boston. For someone who doesn’t want Claire to know he is there, they seem to make the same friends in the big town of Boston. As many times as he wants to jump in and let Claire know he is around, he understands that Claire wants her space, to be her own person.

The reason Claire is in Boston is to perfect a machine that she has been working on. A machine that in my eyes could only be used for bad. I’m not quite sure how Claire never saw it that way. As soon as she described it, I was like “Oh great, this thing is nothing but bad.” Enter the Daylighters, an organization that wants to destroy all things vampire. You can kind of predict that everything goes downhill from here on out.

Some major players and key characters added to the story are Professor Irene Anderson, Jesse and Pete. I absolutely loved Jesse. A vampire who seemed to be in control of her powers and was great in all situations. Her interaction with Myrnin was cute and entertaining. It had me laughing.

I really enjoyed reading a Rachel Caine book again. I could tell it was her style as soon as I started getting into the story. I felt like I was actually in Boston with Claire and Shane. The descriptions and dialogue are engrossing. I would definitely check out the rest of this series.

I will say since this is the first time I am seeing this world, I don’t know for a fact how true the characters are to themselves and how they have been since the beginning. Claire was tough where she needed to be (confronting a stalker and a nasty professor caused some really funny scenes) but I did think she was naïve. She couldn’t possibly think her weapon would only be used for good. Shane was an idiot for following but thankfully she ended up needing his help or else I don’t think that would have been good for their relationship. The book did alternate between Claire and Shane’s POVs.

Overall, Fall of Night is dark, funny, action-packed and filled with some serious drama. My jaw dropped during that crazy cliffhanger. So be prepared to have the last book on hand, Daylighters. I’m trying to avoid spoilers but I really want to know how this series ends but I would like to read it from the beginning first.

Notable Scene:

She picked up the hot pie and was walking back with it when she spotted the creepy Professor Davis sitting at an outdoor café, enjoying a coffee with a girl young enough—again—to be his daughter. She looked captivated, too. Starry-eyed and naïve, and willing to believe that Professor Davis was that missing daddy figure in her life that would solve all her problems.

Claire couldn’t resist.

She changed course.

Dr. Davis and his new conquest were so into each other—or at least, she was breathlessly into him, and he was enjoying it — that it took at least a full minute for either of them to notice Claire when she paused at their table. Dr. Davis even pushed his coffee cup toward her, as if she were the waiter, before looking up in annoyance, then confusion, and then – gratifyingly –worry. He straightened up in his chair, and she smiled at him.

What would Eve do?

It was easy enough to channel her best friend’s talent for snarky destruction.

“You’re not returning my calls, Patrick,” Claire said, in her best injured, pouting voice. “I thought you were going to come by to talk about our problems.”

“Claire,” he said, which was an obvious and rookie mistake; it meant he knew who she was, and she saw the chagrin settle over his face as he realized it. He turned toward the girl he was with, no doubt to protest his innocence.

Claire didn’t give him the chance. “I ran into your wife at the mall and she says she is not going to give you a divorce, so what am I supposed to do about the babies? Just you wait. I’m going to make sure you step up and be a good father to our twins! You promised!”

She didn’t wait to see the results of the bomb she’d thrown; she just held her head high and walked on with the pizza and didn’t look back. She didn’t have to. The scrape of the girl’s wrought-iron chair legs on pavement, and Patrick’s injured, wounded protests were as good as any picture. It might not matter, and probably wouldn’t; she’d torpedoed one date, but he’d have another one tomorrow, or the next day.

FTC Advisory: New American Library/Penguin provided me with a copy of Fall of Night. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Oh my word! I really thought I was going to lose my mind over this book. I was already heartbroken in the last book over some decisions Claire had made. We start right where that left off and see her plans get followed through. I wanted to cry for all the characters affected! It's not long before all hell breaks loose though, and Claire gets pulled way deep back into vampire drama. Should have known...

I really liked seeing people outside of Morganville who are in on the secret. It was also interesting to see how Claire interacted with people she knew before moving to Morganville. Surprises were all around in this book and it was very hard to even try to predict what would happen next. When it all boiled down everything *seemed* ok but in the last few pages, we find out that things are definitely NOT ok and we get left with another cliffhanger. I'm very anxious to read the next book and frustrated that I have 2 other books to read before I can! lol

I wanted to read this because I am addicted to Morganville, and I am flying towards the end of the series and can't stop.

This book was hard for me because Claire is leaving behind all of the characters that I have come to adore or at least know what to expect from.

Her old friend Elizabeth is going to be her new room mate and Elizabeth has changed from when Claire knew her and even though she is bubbly and shows moments of being real, most of the time she annoyed me.

It was hard for Claire to be away from Shane and I missed their easy and hot way they are together, but I definitely respect that his lack of trust in her with Michael last book certainly can't get off with a simple apology.

Her motives for going are good as well. She wants to establish herself as an independent young woman and fulfill her dream of MIT. She plans to go back to Morganville but she wants life experience outside of town as well.

The action was great as usual, and kept me flipping the pages and never wanting to stop. There were plot twists that really made me gasp or just sit slack jawed for a few minutes. Though somehow, everything got back to the semblance of normal that Claire has.

The ending was good, and it is what the books have been building up to. With the next being the last book, of course the events that went down were big and the culmination of the themes of the series. I can't wait to have a spot to keep reading.

Bottom Line: Great book with some new and shocking developments.

Fall of Night begins with Claire trying to sneak out of Morganville without being noticed. The vampires of this unstable town are the least of her worries, however. There is still something bubbling below the surface between Shane and Claire due to happenings in Book 13 and she doesn't want to change her mind about pursuing her dream to attend MIT. The hurt, guilt, tears, and other various emotions that Claire may face or be faced with if she waits for Shane, Eve, and Michael to say goodbye may be more than she can bear. Instead, she chooses to have Myrnin drive her to the edge of town where she will be picked up and escorted to the airport by her father.

Leaving Morganville used to be Claire's goal but now that the time is here, she is having a hard time adjusting to the thought. Doing so means she leaves everyone and everything behind. It mildly helps that Claire is taking a student assistant role with a professor, Irene, who is also from Morganville. Plus, no vampires, right? Well, Claire finds out the hard way that things aren't exactly what they seem outside the confines of Morganville and they certainly aren't any better.

The girl she moves in with off-campus is a nightmare. Liz was Claire's best friend growing up but she has completely changed in so many disturbing ways. She changed her looks, wardrobe, and attitude. She's still bossy and controlling but she's all about finding a man to take care of her and doesn't care if love is involved or not. But, that may have something to do with the guy stalking her, I suppose. So between totally missing Shane, missing Eve and Michael and even Myrnin, she's dealing with Liz and her psycho ex. Most of Liz's scenes in Fall of Night just seemed like filler to make the book a little bit longer, though.

Having been in Morganville for so long, Claire is suspicious of eveyone's motives. She thinks she can trust her professor but when a strange group of men overtake Claire and Irene and Claire is sent off to find Jesse, a friend of Irene's, with a cryptic message, everything begins spiraling down out of control. An anti-vampire group called The Daylight Foundation shows up on the scene and they are able to gain control of the device that Claire created in Morganville - VLAD. About halfway through the book, Eve places a call to Claire letting her know that something is going on and that Myrnin fled Morganville. Next thing you know, all the key players are assembled including Shane (who actually followed Claire to Cambridge without her knowing - just so he could make sure she was safe) and Oliver (who was exiled from Morganville in the previous book) and they are being chased by The Daylight Foundation.

There is much more that goes on; I've only touched a few of the plot points. There are a few new characters that are introduced, which is to be expected since 98% of the book takes place outside of Morganville. There are twists, turns, abductions, torture, death, and double-crossing. Due to the length of the series, I found it a refreshing twist to take the characters out of Morganville again. Except, instead of the entire gang going together, Claire departs on her own - wanting to experience life on the outside of Crazytown. Her solitude doesn't last long, as you read above. The only problem is I found it strange that so close to the end of the series (there is only one book left after Fall of Night), the author separated the characters from not only each other, but from Morganville, for a good percentage of the book (even though I found it refreshing, I also found it puzzling). The introduction of a vampire-hating group, The Daylight Foundation, that has clearly been established longer than from the first day Claire got to Cambridge, into the second to the last novel was a twist I wasn't expecting and I hope book 15 is able to deal with this new threat in a satisfactory manner.

The end of a series is always bittersweet, especially when the series is a long as this one. I'm going to be sad to see our friends, enemies, and frenemies ride off into the sunset.

Favorite Passage:

Conversation between Eve and Claire:

Myrnin left Morganville, possibly on his way to Claire. Amelie sent Michael after him and Eve is with him.

Eve: "If Myrnin pokes his crazy head up before [Michael and Eve get there], call me and try to keep him, you know, stable."

Claire: "Is is unstable?"

Eve: "I don't know, how can I tell? You're the crazy whisperer."
(Caine, R., 2013, pg. 172).

Welcome to Morganville, Texas but make sure you don't stay out after dark!

I haven't enjoyed this series as much as I probably should have. After all, it is fully of vampires, and those are sort of my thing. Between the dragging feeling that was present in almost every book, the times when chapters would be 40-50 pages long (for a 300-400 page book), and the switching perspectives in almost every other chapter (and going from 3rd person to 1st person in those chapters) in the last few books, I have been feeling more and more disenchanted.

This book definitely would not make my list of awesome books. It isn't even one of the better ones in the series. For one thing, part of what made me keep coming back to these books were the characters Eve, Amelie, and Myrnin. Well, in this book, Eve and Myrnin barely have any part at all, while Amelie has none. Eve and Myrnin always provided some of the most humorous comments in the other books, while Amelie would provide some of the best insight; without these three, the books aren't as funny and they don't seem as philosophical/insightful. It's amazing how not having them makes the story so very flat.

Another thing I disliked was the continuation of the bad guy being the person you should least expect. For 14 books, that has been the case, whether it was Oliver, a puddle/the rain/Magnus, Naomi, or mad scientists. With every book, I thought the way villains were written would change. With every book, it became more and more obvious that it wouldn't change. It would have been okay if it had been an occasional thing, but 14 books that are built on the suspense of figuring out who the big bad is made this formula a really bad idea. Everything that happened in the story made it so obvious that this story was going to be like the other 13.

It is good that this is only a 15 book series. I think that, at least when it comes to the Morganville series, Caine has lost her spark.

Fall of Night has taken the Morganville residents to the next level in Boston. Another fast paced and suspenseful story with a big turn of events.

Claire makes her way to MIT in Boston on her own. She is determined to do this solo. Moving in with a long ago friend, she soon starts missing Morganville, but endeavors to tough it out. Dr. Anderson, her new professor, feels like a kindred spirit. She too had trained and worked with the eccentric Myrnin.

Shane is going a little crazy with loneliness and his need to watch over Claire. Without her knowledge, he moves to Boston and finds a job washing dishes at the bar. Shane catches glimpses of Claire here and there until they are brought together for yet another vampire crisis.

Claire and Shane find some new friends and a new enemy. The Daylight Foundation has stolen Claire's most impressive work and uses it for their own purpose. Once again the vamps rally with Claire and company to save the day and end up with a big game changer.

I gave this one 5 stars for a few reasons. First being the great character development. Most of the friendly faces did not change a bit, but there was excellent growth for both Claire and Shane. In earlier tales they seemed to be stuck in perpetual adolescence. Now they are stronger, both together and apart. Shane saw the most noticeable change.

The plot was very smooth but it was gripping at the end. Without giving too much away, I was amazed at how much bigger the plot became. I liked not knowing everything and that I had no idea this was coming.

A new town also did a lot for the story. It made room for some new roles, new challenges and an overall different mood. Morganville residents finally got to go out of the box. It felt refreshing for the story and for the characters. They got the chance to stretch and try on something new.

OMG! best freaking Morganville book yet! damn it was good, and the ending was spectacular! I can not wait for the next book! Claire, Shane, Eve, Michael, and all the rest of the Morganville cast sure know how to get their hands dirty.

Claire finally gets outside of Morganville to live the life she had always dreamed about at MIT but soon finds out that you can take the girl out of Morganville but you can't take Morganville out of the girl, and maybe she has just changed too much to want this kind of life anymore.

Shane is heartbroken to see her go but understands why she must spread her wings and see what the world has to offer. He fears for her safety though as he has been on the other side before and has seen first hand how far Morganville's reach extends.

Eve & Michael are in full honeymoon bliss but that will not stop them from kicking a little ass if necessary. They are totally bummed to see Claire leave but the thought of having more time together helps lift their spirits some, they just wish they didn't have to lose there roommates to do it.

I really liked the new character Jesse she was spunky and quirky and reminded me a lot of Eve only different. Pete was cool as well and I would like to see more of both in the future.

Rachel as always leaves us hanging at the end with a dramatic cliff hanger ending and I soooo can't wait to see what happens next! Rachel is a amazing writer and I could read these books over and over again a thousand times and never be bored!

5 STARS! Life's been kicking Claire's butt in the last few installments of Rachel Caine's Morganville series. I thought Last Breath was rough, but Black Dawn was one massive adrenaline rush and I missed the snark and taco dinners. Then Bitter Blood gave the fans what we wanted only to slap us around the last third of the book. In Fall of Night, a nearly broken, but determined Claire decides she needs to feel human again in a human world surrounded by...you guessed it, humans! She leaves Morganville, venturing out on her own. Or so we think. As the rose colored glasses fall to the ground and get smashed into little bits, our favorite heroine realizes humans suck, sometimes worse than mean old vamps.

This is my favorite installment yet. Remember those early books when Bishop first came to town? This addition to the series had that same feel to it. Desperation, isolation, terrible life and death decisions, regret, pure bliss. Oh and menacing villains you want to see taken down by whatever means available. Because Claire left Morganville, we miss out on the descriptions of our favorite scary town and those even scarier residents. We don't get Myrnin's lab sessions or the whole gang hanging out together exchanging playful barbs. Caine does an excellent job of making us feel like we're starting a new school right along with Claire. I wanted to be there in person so bad, and then I really didn't. I hope this isn't a spoiler, but I just have to say that anyone pissed at Shane after Bitter Blood will fall in love with him all over again. I mean it. And like those Bishop installments, this book leaves you in a state of What the hell, Caine? Ten more pages. Five? Anything? A freaking teaser?

As a final note, there's this big push to turn the series into a high quality web show. I'm so excited at the prospect I get fangirl dizzy when I think about it. I just hope they don't make everyone pretty. Sure, I have no idea what Oliver looks like anymore because Caine's cleaned him up like a fifty year old woman on day time TV. And Myrnin has this strange chemistry with Claire, but I've never thought of him as attractive in a traditional way. Claire is girl next door pretty. Eve is beautiful, but hides most of it under gobs of white paint. Michael and Amelie are the true standouts with Shane hot in a rough way. What are your thoughts on the whole thing? Do you want a hot Myrnin?

Fourteenth in the Morganville Vampires urban fantasy series for Young Adults in which Claire goes off to college---out of Morganville, gasp!

My Take
Damn, it was a good story, but I'm still disappointed with the ending. I had visions of Claire experiencing life at MIT for a few years. And I was so happy that Shane was heading there, okay, it was behind Claire's back, but he just wanted to be there, to protect her. I sure felt better about it when I found out about Derrick! Only, it's a Morganville story, so life just doesn't turn out the way we want it.

An odd points-of-view combination with Shane as a first-person POV, and Claire is the omniscient-limited. It works though and was very easy to read.

The start of this is pretty funny and a bit bittersweet as Claire worries about saying good-bye and what MIT will hold for her. It's both freedom and anonymity.

Oof-duh, I do not like Elizabeth! She's got some weird values and no clue on where not to intrude! It gets easier to understand once you get further in, but still...

I do like Myrnin figuring out how to send Claire an email...! Then there's Shane's video to her. It was so sweet and made me cry.

Oh, lord, something's happened to Shane. And he's taught Claire a lot about fighting---I had to laugh reading about Claire calculating her moves in bad situations.

Damn, LOL, it's old home week in Cambridge with a rush and everything...!

It's good with lots of drama and tension, and you don't see who the bad guys are until it's too late. Except. Except for why doesn't Claire jump right out with the information she has on Dr. Davis. I mean, what the heck? Claire isn't stupid. And she knows enough to get info right out in front...???

It's also terrifying. I was with Claire in her initial thoughts. MIT would be so great. No vampires. Just research and learning. Humans everywhere. Only, one also believes that humans will be, well, humane.

The Story
Claire is nervous. She's finally getting out of Morganville, but she's experiencing all the first-time jitters of any college-bound teen. She's been a major part of saving Morganville with all the notoriety and what protection it's earned her, and she's suddenly worried about being, well, average. Not the smartest kid in the room. She also needs to find herself--away from Myrnin and Shane.

Only, it seems that Morganville is on its way to Cambridge.

The Characters
Claire Danvers has been so useful to Myrnin as his assistant that Amelie is willing to allow Claire to head off to MIT. With certain restrictions, leaving Michael and Evie and Shane living in the Glass House. Shane Collins is Claire's boyfriend and very loving and supportive of Claire, but with a strong jealous streak, and he has to let Claire leave Morganville without him.

Elizabeth was Claire's best friend in high school; now she's her roommate. Changed and pushier and more stubborn than Claire can believe! Derrick is an old, unwanted boyfriend of Liz's. Viva Adewah is another new student caught up in the Orange Tour. Nick is another student, a sweetheart.

Michael Glass is a vampire married to the Goth-loving Eve Rosser (Black Dawn (Morganville Vampires, #12)) who drives a hearse and works as a barista. Myrnin is a mad-scientist with no clue as to proper dress; he's better suited for meeting up with Mozart or hangin' on the beach in Hawaii, maybe... And he'd do anything for Claire. Bob the Spider is one of his pets.

Dr. Irene Anderson is Claire's new, super-secret mentor at MIT---she works for and with some scary government types. She was another of Myrnin's assistants, and Amelie set her up with her lab to run check on Myrnin's experiments. The oily, manipulative Dr. Patrick Davis is Elizabeth's professor with an itch for girl students.

Mick owns Florey's Bar & Grill where Roger is the chef and Bridget his second. Jesse is a vampire, a bartender at the bar, and does oversight on Dr. Anderson for Amelie. Pete is human and a bouncer at the bar.

Amelie is the Founder of Morganville. Her policy towards humans after Black Dawn was one of implementing equal rights between vampires and humans, but events in Bitter Blood (Morganville Vampires, #13), may have her re-thinking this. Oliver has been Amelie's nemesis in the past, and now he's banished from Morganville for his actions in Bitter Blood.

Hannah Moses is back to being the chief of police (perfect with her military background). Gramma Day is Hannah's grandmother. A very smart lady. Hal is one of the cops who knows how to wrangle these strange new "dogs".

VLAD is the Vampire Leveling Adjustment Device. The Daylight Foundation is an anti-vampire organization; their members are referred to as Daylighters.

The Cover
It's a sassy Claire on the cover. She's determined in a deep royal blue knit top, looking over her shoulder. I do like that metaphor for the Ivy League with the clutch of ivy in that upper right corner.

The title is a metaphor for the end of this particular tale as it is the Fall of Night.

I have been following The Morganville Vampires for quite some time. Given that there are 14 books in the series so far you'd be forgiven for thinking that they would be getting boring, or the whole premise of the books would be getting old. Far from it. Somehow Caine has managed to keep the story alive and keep the characters from getting stagnant. And surprising her readers!

I have always enjoyed the previous books in the series, I have laughed and cried with the characters. In so many ways these people feel like real friends.. I am invested in their well-being and happiness, and as much as I know it's a little crazy I have real life reactions to certain aspects of the story.. like last night; I was sitting up late reading and I realised it was getting ever closer to 1am and I had to be up early to get the kids ready for school so I agreed (with myself) that I would read to the end of THIS chapter and then go to bed. Well then Claire did something that was so unlike Claire and the chapter ended. Just like that. For a second I was in shock and then I was really angry because the thing that she did was so horrible and it affected one of my most favourite characters ever.... Myrnin. I actually slammed my book down on the sofa and ranted... (my husband already knows I'm crazy so it doesn't matter that he was witness to this)... How dare she do that! How on earth could she do that? A small part of me rationalised that she did what she did for a very good reason.... the rest of me wanted to punch her in the face! (I promise I'm not usually the violent type but I think I was channelling Shane).

I thought I may have been down with the shouting at the book once I moved past the next chapter but the ending sucker punched me. I shouted at the book again, for the way the book ended and for the fact that I need to wait until November for the very last instalment in the series. As an author, if you elicit this kind of reaction from a constant reader, then you have written your story and your characters well. Or rather, bloody brilliantly.

Before I finish up my review I need to just tell you about Myrnin... he may well be my most favourite of Vampires ever! He has so many quirky qualities I couldn't even begin to list them. If you've read the series you will know what I mean.. From the clothes that he wears, to his vampire bunny slippers (I totally want a pair of my own), to his relationship with Claire. I don't know of ANY character who has made me laugh as much as he has. So I'm including a small quote from a part of the book that made me laugh out loud whilst reading last night.

Oliver says to Myrnin "And you look as weak as a kitten."

"Do I?" Myrnin asked, and smiled slowly. It had a sharp edge of lunacy to it. He made a purring sound low in his throat. "Do try and pet me then. You can report back how sharp my claws might be, once your throat grows back."

I know some people are already dreading reading the last in the series because then it will be over... I look forward to reading the whole series back to back and fully immersing myself in Morganville and her characters. Again and again.

After spending the past years in Morganville after a decision that would change her life forever and open her up to a reality she had never imagined to be true, Claire had thought that the chance to leave would never open up to her as the Vampire residents in Morganville like to keep their secret closely guarded and don't take too nicely to outsiders. However, Claire has been given a special pass from Amelie The Founder of Morganville to attend her dream school M.I.T. which along with her advisor- a former resident of Morganville she will be able to work on a machine that she has been working with along with Myrin the past few years. However leaving Morganville for Claire means having to say Goodbye to all the friends she has made over the past few years including boyfriend Shane Collins, Michael Glass and his wife Eve along with her Vampire friends Myrin etc. Claire thought that once she left Morganville, life would be less dangerous - however what she forgot was that when people don't live in fear of Vampires, humans can be equally or more dangerous and someone out in the outside world is killing off not only Vampires but Humans. It seems though that Claire's friends can't stay away from her and they are ready to help as usual along with Myrin and Oliver - the vamps ? Will Claire return back to Morganville the same person or will her short time away change her into what she should have been in the beginning ?
As like the previous few books , Fall of Night is told from multiple perspectives.
Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires is one of the few Paranormal series that I have been able to continue reading and still after 14 Books it is captivating and the ending of this book makes me want to read Book #15 as it's finally getting really exciting as readers start to wonder - is this the end of the Vampire reign in Morganville ?

#This was a library Book.

This is the 14th book in the Morganville Vampire series and it is still so freaking awesome! I mean seriously 14 amazing books!! This never happens. And I am really not ready for these books to end. They are seriously my favorite YA series ever. What's even better its like the only YA series with no love triangles. You have to love that.

If you haven't read this series then this review will make no sense to you. So you should just go read the first book now.

Claire has actually left Morganville. She left her friends and her boyfriend. She is finally at MIT. But things are never easy for Claire and no one really ever leaves Morganville. Her and Shane being separated was tough on me. I understood where she was coming from but I needed them together. Luckily Shane knows what I want and he made things happen. But Shane and Claire realize that vampires aren't the only bad guys out there. Humans can be just as bad.

Even though we are only in Morganville for a brief period of time, Claire's life in Boston is not a normal college life. Her Morganville life follows her. And so do a lot of vampires like Myrin, Oliver and Michael and of coarse Eve and Shane. They are in a mess and it seems its all from one of Claires experiments. After they all barely escape with their lives it was a relief to go back to Morganville. But man when I thought the last book left us on a cliffhanger this one has it beat! I need to know what is going to happen but at the same time I don't want to because its the last book. Its so confusing.

Fall of Night was just amazing! I loved it. Shane and Claire are meant to be together. I love them both so much. They are the perfect for each other and I love how strong they make one another. I couldn't bare to have anything ever happen to them. Shane has really learned his lesson and I don't see there being any doubt there again. I think they are stronger then ever now. I could gush all day about these two. But I won't.

Go read this series now! Seriously its one of the best and it never ever disappoints. I can't even imagine a world where there isn't going to be a new Morganville book coming out. Its going to be so tough. But man I have loved this ride. I can't wait to see how Rachel Caine ends this. Even if it will suck to have it end.

Fall of Night is book # 14 of The Morganville Vampires series. I recommend reading the others to understand the dynamic between friends and what they mean to each other but at the same time you could read it as a stand-alone but you will be confused.

Rachel Caine once again brings you a story full of action, suspense, love and Vampires. The Morganville Vampires series are thrilling and always keeping you on edge and wanting to read more. This is one of those stories and series that keep you glued to your book or e-reader.

Fall of Night is the story of Claire Danvers out on the real world finally after pretty much trying to stay alive back in Morganville her home since she was sixteen. Now at eighteen she finally gets the pass she has been craving for to go out and be with normal people attending the college of her dreams, MIT. But things are not as they seem.

With a crazy roommate ex-friend and a stacker to out of their mind professors Claire comes to the conclusion that maybe staying in Morganville would have been safer than what she thought. Now once again she has to survive and do things that she though she wouldn't have to do outside Morganville.
With the help of the usual suspects Claire is able to stay alive, save her friend and return home after fighting, shooting ,blowing up and running from a new organization hell bent on killing or `fixing' vampires only to be ambushed once at home by the same people they just ran from.

Life is never dull in Morganville and Claire is never as safe as she wants to be. What will the new adventure be on the next installment of The Morganville Vampires, will Claire finally be safe to live and love along side her fiancé Shane and her friends Michael and Eva or will the Vampires take over once and for all.

I give it five out of five, and I recommended it to anyone that like vampire stories with a side of love, humans and lost of action and suspense.

Taking a stroll down Morganville is no problem. Leaving Morganville is. I had a super fun time reading this book. I went in eyes wide open and experience everything Claire did, including watching her back every 5 seconds...

Plot: Since the beginning of this series no one has work harder then Claire. She proved herself in every way possible. So when Claire gets a chance to leave Morganville, I'm on board with her. I had hoped that things would go smoothly but like Morganville nothing ever is. Claire finds herself once again, fighting for her life. This plot drew me in and kept me there. The buildup to Claire leaving (made me cry), fights/love with Shane (made me cry) and angry, not to mention Claire is plain freaking awesome!

Love: Shane do I have to slap you upside the head? C'mon guy! Get yourself together. Look, I know you made a mistake in the last book and well whats done is done. You can't take it back but you can fight for her. Stop being a stupid guy and FIGHT FOR HER! Claire, you better make him work for it.

Morganville: The ending is as much as a surprise to the reader as well as the characters. I thought once they cross the border to Morganville all will be the same in the Glass house. But no, nothing is ever easy in Morganville. Which brings me to my next point, it's almost over....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Fall Of Night is another excellent addition to the Morganville series. The momentum from Morganville is never lost even though Claire leaves for a while. A finely executed book leaving me hanging for more, Fall Of Night rocks!

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:

All I could say when I finished this book was "Holy mother...."

I wasn't sure what to expect with all of the changes from the last couple books, the breakup of our known posse and the tension running rampant, but if it's even possible for me to love one of these books even more than I already have been, Fall of Night did the trick!

I started the book at 1am on release day because I simply couldn't wait, and by the next afternoon I was finished. I couldn't put it down!

I love the new characters, the action was even more intense than usual (and that's saying A LOT!), and the surprises... I don't even know where to begin; I'm actually a bit speechless right now. Let me just say that I don't think I've said "OMG!" so many times over the course of one book ever. Fall of Night was absolutely, amazingly, stunningly awesome!

An easy 5 Skull read, and though I didn't think it was possible, this series (even after 14 books) just keeps getting better!

** spoiler alert ** I'm not sure how I feel about this book...

I don't know if it's because the setting isn't in Morganville, but I just wasn't feeling this one. You can tell the series is coming to an end because it seems like the story is very fragile and new ideas are hard to come by. I feel as though I read for a couple of hours and came out with nothing. What really happened in the book of any importance? In the first couple of chapters Shane is bitten by a hell hound, and he hints about it bothering him from time to time but nothing ever comes of it until the very end but you have to wait until the next book to find out. Apparently the humans have taken over Morganville... but again it comes in the last chapter.
Claire left Morganville to attend college, but she never goes to a single class. The first half of the book the worst that happens is her roommates stalker, and then he dies trying to save her?! I mean, really? There just wasn't much substance to this book and the more I think about it the more it aggravates me. As much as I LOVE and ADORE this series I think it's time for it to come to an end. When the authors run out of ideas and story starts to suffer it's time to put it down.

She's a tricky woman, that Rachel Caine! When I first read the blurb of Fall of Night, I was a little bit concerned. Claire's given permission to leave Morganville and is off to MIT. I envisioned a whole book about Claire, and missing all my favourite characters and the town of Morganville too! How can that be? I thought in a panic. No Morganville? No Myrnin? No Eve? How can Ms Caine do this to us?

I should have more faith. :D Yes, Claire is off to MIT, to study in an advanced graduate program, under Professor Irene Anderson - who is herself, an ex-Morganville native, and who pretty much worked for Myrnin as Claire does. And while Morganville itself doesn't star in the novel, we do get to revisit with its citizens. (Happy Snoopy Dance!!)

You see, I'm not a fan of Young Adult novels, especially Young Adult paranormals. In fact, I have to say that I don't like them at all. 99% of the ones I pick up or read about, are cut from the same cloth. The plots never differ, the characters are all the same. There's instalove, there's love triangles and there are parents who are either totally oblivious, or absent or abusive. *Note to teenagers - parents are not oblivious of what you up to! We always know....we were teens ourselves once....

But Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series has grabbed me. Right from the very first book, I never felt I was reading something aimed at Young Adults. I am probably twice the age of the demographic of these books, yet I never ever felt it. No instalove - here's a secret: I always felt Claire and Micheal would be the ones to hook up. Could have knocked me down with a feather when it was Claire and Shane. No love triangles - I loathe love triangles, cos let's face it, how often do these happen in Real Life? And while Claire was young, she wasn't a silly, self-centred, immature character. She was intelligent. She was clever and sweet and wonderful and oh how I would have loved to have been Claire when I was younger!

So here's Claire, leaving Morganville at last, knowing she will desperately miss her friends, and at the same time, feeling the relief of being out of the dangers Morganville holds. She contacts her former best friend from pre-Morganville and moves in with her. It's a testament to how Morganville has changed Claire, that she finds she no longer has much in common with the former BFF and it's a very uneasy relationship.

She has her machine, the one that changes vampires mental capabilities, and oh when it is used at one particular point during the book, my heart wanted to break. Is the machine a good thing, saving humans from the bloodlust attacks of vampires? Or is it something worse, something that can end up be used for pain and bad things instead?

We have a couple of new characters, one I'm not too sure I liked much as she is the epitome of the gorgeous, bad-ass, Urban Fantasy female lead that I'm starting to get a bit tired of in the genre. Plus she has a bit of...history with Myrnin. Get away from my Myrnin, you skank!!!!

*cough* Ah yes. Right then. Where was I? My sweet crazy totally loopy Myrnin does appear in the book, which is as it should be. :D Without Myrnin, this series would probably lose about 45% of its appeal to me, I think. I would still read - and enjoy - a Morganville Vampires book without him, but it just wouldn't be as sweet tasting to me.

All in all, Fall of Night is another worthy entry into the series. If you've never read them before, start with the first one Glass Houses, don't start here. You need to learn about the characters, and you need to watch Claire's growth from frightened little bookworm wondering what the hell she's gotten herself into, to the wonderful, smart, intelligent, reasoning, strong bad-ass young woman she is now.

And you need to fall in love with Myrnin the way I did, bit by crazy bit.

As the 14th book in this series, I was a little bit disappointed with it. Which to be honest I've been a little disappointed with these books since number 11.

This one is about Claire going to MIT. She gets to leave Morganville, but she's also leaving everyone behind. And she's still upset with Shane for some of the things he's done. Things start to go out of control when strange people start coming into Claire's life that may want to harm her. Maybe leaving Morganville was a whole lot more dangerous than staying there to begin with.

Overall the book was okay. I was a little bit frustrated with Claire. I'm glad she did what she did in the end, but I feel like the fall out in the next book is going to be very bad. I was mainly frustrated because it felt like Claire was just running away. Not trying to start over, just running and I didn't like that. I felt like she betrayed and hurt the people she cared about the most through out this whole book. I do look forward to the next one, but I'm a little disappointed with this one.

Every time Rachel Caines comes out with a new Morganville Vampires book, I am fully convinced that she cannot possibly bring something new to the series. And I am proven wrong each time. Book #14 sees Claire leaving Morganville to pursue her dream of studying at MIT and living a normal life. I approached the book with trepidation because even though Claire wanted to leave Morganville, I did not. However, the spirit of Morganville is alive in the MIT campus in Cambridge. Claire learns that a "normal" life includes humans who are clearly deranged and dangerous. In some ways, humans are more dangerous than the vampires as their behavior and motivation is unpredictable (yes, vampires are self serving, but at least that is predictable). I found myself missing Myrnin and the other Morganville characters as much as Claire, but they make their appearance at a pivotal point. There is a lot of suspense not only in the plot, but also in how each vampire will react when under duress in a new environment. The ending was a complete surprise to me, but luckily book #15 is out this year.

I was beginning to tire of the dramas within Morganville and so this book was a refreshing change. Claire's dream of going to MIT becomes a reality as she sets off, leaving behind her friends, mourning, the vamps and drama. Or so she thinks. Little does Clare know that her own invention becomes a sought after weapon, which will change everything.

Clare may have escaped Morganville but Morganville will not let her go that easily! This 14th book in the series is packed with adventure, tension and weirdness!

I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone but it was quite the shocker...

Favourite Quotes:

It's time to find out, the more adult part of her said. You have to see the world before you can give it up here. She supposed that was right. Didn't the Amish send their kids out on rumspringa, to find out what life was like outside and make a real decision on whether or not to stay in their community? So, maybe she was on a kind of vampire rumspringa.

Seriously?? That one part towards the end (you know what I mean!!) almost had me throwing the book across the room! Surely one of my fav characters couldn't go out like that!!

This book follows Claire to MIT. Away from Morganville and all that drama...or so she thinks. This was a different change of pace with the troubles that follow her. I enjoyed the new scenery and loved the ending. Can't wait to start the next one to see where it goes!!

This time, the book was told in both Claire and Shane's POVs which is favorite style! Claire needed to leave to have some space and see the world. But obviously, a girl can leave Morganville but you can't take Morganville out of the girl. Troubles followed her. The book was good but wasn't as amazing as before, but considering this was the 14th and I still enjoyed it, it said that much.

I totally forgot Shane was bitten by a devil dog. The result of the bite mark was reveal at the end. And what she did with Vlad. I've already bought the next book so I knew who ever Daylighters are, they're going to be the Main problem next time and one last time of this amazing story.

** Spoilers **

I thought that Claire would actually get to attend MIT as a regular student in this book. Nope. I thought that maybe we could have a book without Oliver or Myrnin. Nope. I thought that Claire might finally get a clue. Again, nope.

I'm not going to go over the entire plot, but basically Claire invents a weapon that can disarm a vampire by messing with their emotions. It's supposed to be a defensive weapon to give humans a chance in case of vampire attack, but Claire in her total cluelessness never thinks that someone might turn it into an offensive weapon to kill vampires. This is of course exactly what happens. Then we get a bunch of the usual "oh, this is my fault" "they're dead because of me" "she's hurt because of me" "I'm so sorry!" Claire guilt trips that are in every book.

The ending sets up what is the final (I hope) book in the series, everybody runs back to Morganville to find that the humans have taken over & that all the vampires are being held prisoner by the same group of people responsible for changing Claire's weapon. I was wondering how Claire was going to explain to Amelie why she built a vampire weapon, but I guess it doesn't matter now.

I'm sure the last book is going to be about Claire freeing the vampires. I understand that Michael is supposed to be a good guy, but every other vampire in town wouldn't care if she died, & somehow Claire never seems to understand this. After 14 books you would expect that the main character would finally realize that in her world the vampires are the enemy, but for someone who is supposed to be so smart, Claire is incredibly stupid.

As always, there is going to be a group that centers on hatred of others, and we have such a group here. Such groups are fanatical, have no regard for the legal system, and are willing to do anything to push their agenda. Claire, having left Morganville, finds out the human world is just as dangerous if not more so that Morganville since there, at least, you generally had a clear distinction between good and evil (at least of the vampires were evil) beings.

Claire has been played bigtime and finds out she's nearer to death out of Morganville than in Morganville. Further, she's about to find out just how far the reach is of the Nazi-like vampire-hating group.

An extremely good addition to the series.

This is easily at the top of my favorite Paranormal series. At the end of the previous book I was biting my nails and nervous as to whether I wanted to go on further. I wasn't sure how this book would work out with Claire moving away and the normal gang not being together. I was pleasantly surprised. The new characters of Liz and Dr Anderson weren't that thrilling to me but they were ok. There was too little of Michael and Eve, I missed Eve and Shane's banter that is normally present for more of the book but all in all it stayed true to the series. After the ending of this book I am anxious to read the next one but also sad that it is the end of the series.

First Impressions: The Morganville Vampires series is one of my all time favorites and I'm a little sad to see that it will be ending very soon. I believe there will be only one more book after Fall of Night. I'm kind of dreading it to be honest because I've stuck with this series since the very first book and this one is number fourteen. However, I know that all good things must come to an end and I'm prepared (sort of) for this series to close out, hopefully on a high note. This is one of the only groups of books where I can truthfully say that none of them have disappointed me. Sure, some of the books are stronger than others, but I think that the author did a great job. It's a solid series and if you haven't started them yet, I definitely recommend picking them up.

First 50 Pages: If you haven't read Bitter Blood yet, you might want to stop reading this review because their will be some spoilers ahead. Okay, don't say I didn't warn you.

Characters & Plot: I seriously almost cried at the end of Bitter Blood for two reasons: One, Claire leaves Morganville and Two, the group gets split up and I was worried how that would affect the flow of the last two books. I'll be really honest and say that it took me a few chapters to get use to Claire's new surroundings, but hey! She was getting use to them, too. I wasn't feeling the new characters that were introduced though at first, but they grew on me. I was happy to see the old group make appearances throughout the story. It just wouldn't be the same without showcasing everyone who stayed back in Morganville.

So, Claire is up at MIT struggling to adjust to everything outside of Morganville. Shane misses Claire so before too long he ends up there with her and things start to get interesting. Both of them begin to really miss Morganville and who can blame them? They were stuck there for how many books? I miss Morganville, too.

But wherever Claire seems to go, trouble follows and things get INTENSE in this book. The Caine humor is still there, but you can't trust anyone in this book. The author threw in some wrenches and a few other tools to boot. She made it darn near impossible for me to even write this review without giving anything away. Let's just say that you need to expect anything to happen in this latest installment. People are going to make you lose your faith in them, while others will become unexpected...something else. So many spoilers I can't say...

We have two POVs in this book and one of them is Shane's. That made me very nervous at first because I have a love/hate relationship with this character, but he was actually not terrible to "listen" to.

The ending was crazy and the perfect set up for the final book.

Final Thoughts: I wish I could give you guys more than what I did, but for real, I can't. Fall of Night ranks very high as one of my favorites in the series. It's just so good! My only complaint is that some of the supporting characters seemed a little neglected, but I hope they will be featured more in the final book so I can get a proper goodbye. Anyway, YES! Pick this up! Now! It's wonderful and I don't think you will regret it. It's a must-read for any fan.

Don't get me wrong - I am a massive fan of the MV books and have been for more than three years. So when I finally got my hands on this book, I could barely contain my excitement. As a clyrnin fan, the first chapter was great, seeing Claire and Myrnin have a moment. But then the rest of the book happened. Although the pace was slow, the general feel was rushed and not thought through. Several new characters are introduced, and I didn't really connect with any of them, and most seemed pointless. The whole first half of the book was a bit dull to be honest, and when it finally got to some action, the plot was recycled and a bit cliche. I felt really, truly, disappointed in Caine as I have come to expect excellent writing and plots from her. SPOILERS AHEAD!

***

My biggest problem was about Claire, Shane and Myrnin. Although I love the Myrnin/Claire pairing and am a huge fan of Myrnin, I have faced up to the fact that this isn't going to happen, but I felt that the introduction of Jesse seemed rushed and that he acted completely out of character, forgetting Claire and Ada. Also, I felt that after all the Clyrnin moments over the past few books, e.g. the kiss in her room, the goodbye at the beginning of this book, these leads seemed pointless, and I wondered why she had built up their relationship. And to top it all off, she made Claire betray Myrnin, which I thought was completely out of character and sad.

Then, there was Claire and Shane. The whole reason that Claire left was to be independent and make Shane stop not trusting her, then he goes and stalks her! But worst of all, when she finds out, she doesn't hit him, leave him or anything! She forgives him!

Another problem that I had with this book was that it didn't feel familiar, as it wasn't set in the Morganville that I have come to know. Half the book didn't even include the main characters. Also, there was no Amelie, which seemed a bit strange considering. And sorry to rant, but one more thing. Amelie threatened Michael with punishment at the end of the last book but this then wasn't mentioned in this book. Or whatever Myrnin whispered to Shane when pretending to kiss him?

The cliffhanger at the end was, although well written, yet again seemed rushed, as well as suggesting that the next book might not go as I would hope for the last book. So overall, a disappointing read that as left me feeling confused and annoyed due to a lack of familiarity or continuation, and a general feeling of being rushed and not thought through.

I'm a little surprised by all the positive reviews to be honest. I guess I'm the minority here. I found this book really disappointing and unsatisfying compared to the rest of the series. It took place in a setting I didn't care about, with new characters I didn't like, and it ended with a lot of unanswered questions. Granted, some of the story may have been a necessary evil, but I felt this book was lacking in all the ways I'd come to love the previous books in the series -It's hard to explain. I was having a hard time finding the motivation to keep reading especially the first two thirds of the book. Don't get me wrong, I still recommend it to any fans of the series, because come on, any Morganville Vampire fan has to read all the books right? and as a whole, this is one of my favorite book series, if not my favorite. But I really hope the next book has more of the town and characters we all know and love (which I assume it will judging from the ending of this book).

I just love this series! Claire isn't some pushover she wants to prove she can stand on her own in this installment. I was so happy to see Myrnin with a possible love interest, he has always been my favorite vamp! Claire and the gang take on the daylight sect in this one, so they learn nowhere is safe. Great story lots of action and Claire and Shane's love is proven again.

Rachel Caine is back once again with the adventures of Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve only this time they are out of Morganville. Action packed, with twists and turns that you are never really sure where they will lead. Another good solid read, that makes you want the next chapter of these friends lives.

Entertaining as always, Claire's adventures at MIT propel her through mysteries and dangerous situations. However, without the Morganville milieu, it lacks something in the telling. Even for a plot that involves vampires and ghosts, the novel involves just too many convenient circumstances.

As a big fan of the Morganville Vampire series, this book was a disappointment. The last third was up to normal standards, but I was bored throughout the early parts of the book. Taking the action outside Morganville was a mistake in my opinion, and I'm glad we'll be back to the normal setting for the next book.

I love this series, I only hope she continues it. The characters are all so interesting. She could base stories on each one!! Although I think she has!!! If she kills any of them off, I am through! I love how she brings characters back and that even the ones who want to be evil have to be good at times. It just all evens out in the scheme of things.

The reason I have gave the books a five star review is because they are really interesting and keep you wanting more. I would recommend this book to young adults and people that enjoy vampires and human friendships and other creatures and a ton of action plus romances among characters!

Spoiler: I just can't believe all that happened to Claire in this book she finally got to leave vamp central of Morganville and follow her dreams of going to MIT, in which technically the head vamp had to set up for her to go, just for all that happens to be dumped on her. I was so mad about everything that happened to her!!!!! Hated the way it ended tho. On the next book now.

OMG! best freaking Morganville book yet! damn it was good, and the ending was spectacular!
