Overall I am a big fan of this series, it is entertaining. The characters are usually enjoyable. The problem though that keeps me from giving the series 5 stars though are the many character inconsistencies from book to book. Ages differ at times from one book to the next, characters and even entire races that interact in one book are suddenly new to those same characters in the next. There also remains a VERY large plot gap between two of the books, I do not know if the gap is filled in during a short story the author included in one of the anthologies she contributed too or not, either way it left myself highly confused and disappointed when reading the particular book.

From one that really enjoyed HBO's Trueblood..... I thoroughly enjoyed this series! Quirky and totally entertaining. Ms. Harris has managed to put together a group of characters that you easily become attached to and can't wait to see what happens next to. I can't wait for book 8 of the series! If you've read the books but haven't seen the HBO series, it's a must. Actually, for me,it gave Sookie a realness that otherwise might have been lost. I had faces and accents to put to each character that made it like a movie in my head. Keep them coming!

I had finished reading the Twilight sagas and was looking for something else in a series in the same genre-I found these and I haven't been dissapointed! They are page turners and quick reads! I love that these are geared for an adult audience-although I absolutley love Twilight it was nice reading something more adult too. Sookie Stachouse is a great character-very realistic as is Bill (unfortunatley Bill is no Edward Cullen and thats all I'll say on that!) These are different and there is always an adventure and drama on every corner. Love all the characters the author brings into the series. I'm on book 4 and can't wait to see where the series goes. Also love the HBO series. Those are addicting as well.

After a year of not being "thrilled" about reading a book, when normally a book lover, the Sookie Stackhouse novels caught my attention and kept it. I love the humane way the vampires are portrayed. I am not usually one to enjoy a vampire story, so the fact the story line is always exciting and the vamps are interesting and realistic is refreshing. A great read, and in fact, better than the True Blood series on HBO that is based on the books. The book is always better.... esp. in this case, and I love the show as well.

I have to admit I was a huge fan of Twilight. Since reading the Twilight Saga I didn't think i'd find another book i'd like as much..well turns out i've found 8 of them! This series is amazing. It's so addicting you just keep turning the pages. It's a great modern twist on vampires living among us. This series is def. more grown up than the Twilight series. I can now say I prefer the Sookie Stackhouse novels to Twilight. Charlaine Harris is a great writer and can tell a great story. Two of the books are out of place though in the set. Dead as a doornail goes before Definatly Dead. I also have watched True Blood, which is the HBO series based off of these books. I absolutly love the show and if you have watched the show and love it, I can guarantee you'll love the books too. They are pretty similar but there are major differences too. Anyone who loves vampires, suspense, and a book that leaves you thinking will loveeeeee this series!

I constantly lose books through moving or loaning them out and never getting them back. This is not so irritating when it's a book I don;t like much anyway, but these are real gems and I'd been complaining that I couldn't find the second in the series to prepare for the next season of True BLood, and I received the whole set for Christmas. They are great, light reads, sort of chick-litish in some ways, but then again, darker themes do show through here and there. They are a lot lighter than the TV show would lead you to believe, however, which is not such a bad thing. Sookie is alos a lot more likable in the books than in the series (to me, YMMV). Good price for a good set of books.

I ordered the Sookie Stackhouse Boxed Set after seeing the TV show on HBO and learning that it was based on these books. I finished reading the entire set in a week -- not because I am a speed reader, but because these books are REALLY THAT GOOD! These books are a must-read for fans of the show and for those who enjoy reading about vampires and the supernatural. I would categorize these books as a little more "adult" than the Twilight books and a little less "violent" than the Anita Blake series. Readers will fall in love with Sookie, and the rest of Harris' characters. Ordering the boxed set is a great idea -- I've tried getting these books for friends at local bookstores and none of the stores had all the books together. And, trust me, once you finish one book you will want to go right to the next without having to go to the bookstore each time.

I cannot say enough about this series of books from Charlaine Harris. I, like many others, fell into the Sookie novels after getting done with Twilight. I needed a vampire fix but with more maturity and I found it with Sookie Stackhouse. In retrospect, I will say I enjoyed these books more than the Twilight books in most part because of the humor in the Sookie Stackhouse novels. You'll laugh, you'll be on the edge of your seat and you even might cry for this WONDERFUL collection!

I'm not much of a fiction reader, but my boyfriend bought me these for Christmas, and I enjoy the TV series, so I figured "what the heck" and opened one up. That was about a week ago, and I'm now on book 5 of 7! I actually read three in three days over the weekend. They are fantastically written and impossible to put down. I highly recommend these to anyone who is a fan of the supernatural and who has a sense of humor. Now I can't go to bed without my nightly dose of Sookie.

Bought this boxed set because my hubby and I enjoyed season 1 of the HBO series "True Blood". Have really liked reading them so far and am on the third one now. It was really a great value at about $32 compared to the cost of buying each book separate. Am enjoying the books even more than the series. The books are easy/fast to read and hold my interest. The only bad thing is, I read these when I am too stressed to sleep and I end up reading longer than I should and am exhausted from sleep deprivation.

I am an avid reader and I just love this series. I enjoy how Harris delves into the super natural, but skips the corny undertones that usually accompany fantasy books. I also recommend this book for book clubs too. They've been passed around about 6 different people in my littl book club, and all of us eagerly await the next book. thanks to HBO's spin off series of the books, we never run out of conversation either. Happy reading everyone!

The Sookie saga will keep you up until 3:00 am just waiting and craving for more.
This Books have a profound meaning on my life, i became addicted to them, you will start to live
a double life, the real world and the amazing world that Charlaine Harris created for us.
It has everything you need, mystery, romance, triller, comedy.
Some books are better than others, depending on what you like, but you will always find something
to satisfy you.
A book collection for a vampire fan, or for a fantasy book fan, can not be completed if you dont have
the Sookie Stackhouse novels.
I think many people can agree with me on that.
Take a chance and get deeply involved in this incredible books that will change you forever, and the
better part yet is that they are still many more to come!!!!

I have seen the trailers on HBO.com, but have not seen the television series (I don't have HBO). I got the first two books as a gift, and could not stop reading until I finished the entire series (so far). Now, I wish I'd slowed down so that I'd have something to read this weekend.
It's a great series, easy to read, riveting, and has lots of action and good character development. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book, and getting the entire set is a good deal.

I really enjoyed the whole series. I am on the last chapter of Dead and Gone. Sookie is a terrific heroine. A southern girl with a whole lot of smarts too. Sam, Eric, and Bill are great characters too. I especially love the relationship between Sookie and Eric. They are amazing. Please keep Sookie coming. There is so much more to cover with all these characters. I am truly going to miss them. Hey Charlaine!!! I am really gonna need a SOOKIE fix...soon. Help me out here

This is an amazing series! These books really have everything you could ask for in a book, comedy, suspense, romance and mystery. The characters are awesome and well developed. The books and the show are not the same so don't expect to know everything if you've seen the show. A lot of the events in the first book happen in the show, but some of the characters are really different, such as Tara and Amy. Several characters don't even show up in the book. The only bad thing I have to say about the books is that they are out of order in the boxed set. Dead as a Doornail comes before Definitely Dead, so make sure you switch them when you get the set. Enjoy!

This is really a fun series to read. I purchased the first book separately just to see if I like the characters and loved it. It was worth buying the box set because it worked out that the books were only $4 each. Much better than buying them one by one. Also since I had bought the first book, now my set all has similar cover art. That would be my only complaint about this set, book one has cover art from the HBO TV series while the rest have art by Lisa Desimini. I like my sets to match. If you enjoy the TV series (which so far has followed the first book reasonably well) then you will love the books.

This has got to be one of the best fiction series I've ever read. I've always liked books and movies about the supernatural and this series definitely has that! I tried a few Laurel Hamilton books and the romance and complexity was a bit exhausting. After a day at my job, I want to read something that has a great plot, evokes a mixture of emotions, has clever and witty writing that's easy to follow and just enough romance. The character Sookie Stackhouse is a riot! Every single book builds on the previous but yet, you could read them independently and still enjoy the individual book. I can't wait to read Dead and Gone when it comes out in May 2009!!! Charlaine Harris, you're amazing! Please, please, PLEASE don't let Sookie go away anytime soon!

Yes, I know totally awesome is two words, but seriously, the Sookie Stackhouse books deserve the hyperbole. I came to the books via the tv show, True Blood so thought I knew what I was expecting. Wow, was I wrong. The show is brilliant, but the series of books following Sookie, Bill and Eric (et al) just left me completely so hungry for me. I devoured them one after the over and still wanted more. If you love your vampires dangerous AND sexy (and not of the sipid emo variety) try these books. But trust me - after the first one you WILL be an addict.

Ms. Harris has concocted a compelling literary dessert with this series. The plot line flows beautifully from one book to the next, while the cast of characters is engaging, entertaining and solid.
The reader can see and feel each scene through Charlaine's unique yet unpretentious prose, while tension exponentially builds and powerfully releases -- keeping the plot development interesting and moving.
The only nit I have to pick is that one enlightening piece of plot line was introduced through a compilation of short stories, requiring the reader to invest in another book in order to fill in the blanks. Considering how much I have enjoyed the series and how many people I have gifted with this set, it seems a bit contrived, from a marketing standpoint. But I have derived so many hours of reading pleasure from the series, I can scare hold that against the author.
Fantasy never felt so good as it has for me with this series.

I actually bought this collection from The Lakeside Collection last year. What an awesome deal! I love that all of them are right there together because, believe me, once you read the first book, you'll want to grab the next one and so on. I like the way they are package and the cover art. The only cover art I didn't like is the one for the first one -- it is done in the series packaging, not the cute little figures. I bought another copy of the first one with the original cover art so that they all match. This is a great collection for a vampire lover!

I began reading these books when my fiance surprised me with them. I love True Blood on HBO so it was only natural to read the books during the series break. I could not put them down. As I read I felt like I was totally involved in Sookie Stackhouse's life, similar to how I felt reading Twilight. I read right through the 7 book box set and ordered the rest of the books from the store. I can not wait until the next book is published in May. I can not say enough about this series.
The books are different from the HBO series, so don't expect to read along and find the same story lines as the show.

I have been reading historical romance novels for almost 20 years. Then my teenage daughter begged me to read the Twilight series. I loved them. Then since I liked them and I love TrueBlood on HBO, I'd try the books.
I am now a Sookie Stackhouse addict. I am obsessed. These books are unbelievable! 100% better than the HBO series (fyi, they made changes), and 100% better than even Twilight.
I can't get enough, you have to read these books. By bokk 2 you are hooked. By the time your finished your begging for the next!

I love thrillers and romance books. I have been collecing the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J R Ward, being a paranormal romance series with vampires as the main characters. Needless to say anything with vampires will get my attention. True Blood the TV series started about a 6 weeks ago in Australia, and I am hooked, both on the TV series and now the books that it is based on. They are a very easy read, however the characters are complicated and you want to read more about them to find out what happens. The romance is not the main genre of the books, it's a combination of mystery, romance, paranormal with shapeshifters, witches and other mythical creaters. It took me just over 2 weeks to read all 7 books in the box set.
If you want to start collecting an other series of books, these are them.
I am hanging out for book 8. Go Sookie and Bill.

I bought the first Sookie novel after the first season of the television series, but was not sure how much I would like the books. I should have taken the advice of the other reviewers - the books are great. I decided to get the complete set to complete the collection of the first 7 books.
They are very well done as just as entertaining as the show, though different than the show. (In other words it is not simply the same thing.) Sookie is alot more central in the books than in the television series as she narrates her life from her perspecitve.
Each book picks up where the last one left off and there is no tail-off. There is not one that I felt was weak or just a "throw -in" at least through the first 5. I am working on the 6th now and half-way through it is great.

I love a good story, characters I can care about, and being left with a feeling of wanting to know more. And there's something rebelious about vampires that adults can relate to; that they have forgotten exists after growing with responsibilty and practicality for so long. Vampires, and all matter of fierce monsters, make for a great story... one that is geared towards adults and entertainment purposes. I started reading these books years ago, and I always recommend them to my female friends whenever they ask me what they "should" read. Sookie is someone you want to be and someone you want to slap at the same time! She just never does what I would do, but, then again, there's only room for ONE Jason in the story. Funny, easy to read, and highly engrossing!

First of all, what a great deal to get the first 7 books in the series all together! If you're a fan of the TV series on HBO first, the first book will be very familiar. From there, the TV series and the books veer into very different directions, which is not at all a bad thing. I won't call the books literary masterpieces by any stretch, but if you're looking for something fun, interesting, different, and entertaining, these are good. I read the first 5 books over the course of two weekends. They are quick and easy reads and I really just wanted to keep reading to find out how the stories would turn out. I've not read a lot of the other vampire series out there, with the exception of 'Twilight', so I can't make that comparison. I'd recommend these to anyone who is looking for a fun rainy day read, sort of super-natural chick lit.

My family, friends and I are huge fans of the True Blood series on HBO. I was told about the Sookie Stackhouse books from a friend who had read them, so I just had to read them for myself. I must say that the books are even more awesome than the series. Charlaine Harris takes you on a complete roller coaster ride, weaving you in and out of her stories. They are so interesting I could hardly put them down, once I started reading. I read all 9 books in 2 weeks and could not get enough. I love all the supernatural beings in the stories and am looking so forward to book 10 next month.

Definitely well written, the story flows well and can feel that the author is experienced in literature. However after the first book, the interest and intensity that other book offers tends to go down hill. The main character slowly gives out a feeling of less emotionally attached and impersonal about events happening around her. Gradually the thoughts and actions of the main character gets more and more annoying and hard to relate to. Most of the books in the series describe everyday things very well, and those took up most of each book. When it comes to the major events in each book, it was paced hurriedly along without much detail.
I would be interested to read the author's other series because the writing is excellent. Just that Sookie Stackhouse series seems to be stretched longer then it should have.

A few things about this series that lead to my overall feeling of "meh".
Bad things:
1) The main character, Sookie, is a constant disappointment due to conflicting attributes. She is described as independent and stubborn with strong morals. However, she will do ANYTHING for the vampires (also, she can't be "glamored" so the things she does is the result of her own personal choice to do so). She claims to not want financial help from Bill or protection from Bill while complaining that he gives money to other characters and isn't around when she needs him. Finally, she kills people (and "things"), lies and is quite promiscuous (not by my personal standards but definitely in conflict with the personality she is described to have by the author). All in all, she's a very inconsistent character. And yes, I know she "stood up" for herself by rescinding Eric's and Bill's invitations into her house at the end of the third book -- but this action seemed more like one of a upset child than an independent woman.
2) Charlaine Harris's writing style is not my cup of tea. She has created an elaborate world that needs more descriptive attention. What I mean is, I would have preferred to know the individual thoughts and motivations of the characters (just because Sookie can't read the minds of the vamps seems like an excuse to not share what they are thinking to the reader)rather than descriptions on what everyone is wearing or how Sookie fixed her hair that day (will she make it wavy or put it in a ponytail? Let's read the whole next paragraph to find out!).
3) The plot of each book is sort of lame.
Good things:
1) The supernatural world in which this all takes place is very interesting even if the books lack adequate description of that world. This provided a great jumping off point for the television series, which honestly does a much better job at unveiling this world and showing how so many characters play within it.
2) It's nice to have an adult alternative to Twilight. I personally enjoy both, but the True Blood series is superior. There are a few reviewers that claimed the book is too graphic (they should definitely stay away from the television series if the books offended them!) -- but I imagine those readers were expecting a pre-teen to teenage level of entertainment like with the Twilight series. This is NOT the Twilight series! (and thank God for that...half-vampire half-human baby? Puh-lease.)
3) Eric is wonderful. He is the perfect manifestation of what a vampire is supposed to be like in this world. Bill is too conflicted between hating vampires and being annoyed by humans. Eric loves being a vampire and doesn't make any excuses when his impulses offend Sookie. His perspective is quite enjoyable.
Overall, the books are ok, and the television series is MUCH better. So I like the books because they provided the basis for the television series, which does a much better job developing characters (and keeping characters around -- LaFayette is the best!)

I SERIOUSLY LOVE THIS SERIES! I am a thirteen year old girl and i just absoulutely love this series. I love Sam. he is awesome. I also kinda like Alcide. I hate Bill. He is sneaky. But otherwise this is a awesome series. you should definately get this and read it. Sookie is kinda a airhead but you'll love her. she is awesome.

These books are great. Even better than the True Blood HBO series because of the detail that is in the written form. I have to really watch myself when I try to read on my lunch break at work because it is so hard to put the book down. I wish that the HBO series would have at least twice as many episodes each season so that they could incorporate more of this detail. It's a must read for anyone who likes vampire stories.

I read these books right after watching the first season of True Blood on HBO. The serie is great but the books are even better!! Some of the characters in the book do not have as much importance as in the serie and frankly, I agree with the books.
The Jason, Tara and Marianne characters are not that prominent, Marianne is not even in the books, and it would be even better if it was the same in the TV show. Eric is much more important in the books and his storyline is excellent and he's much more exciting and interesting that Bill. Sookie is a bit of a nag in the serie, always whining at Bill, Sam or whoever is listening. So, read the books because they are a lot of fun but you may be disappointed if you watch the show.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this series! My only "complaint" is that the last 2 books were not included. This is a funny yet action-packed fantasy series aimed toward adult readers. These books often get compared to the "Twilight" series because vampires are some of the main characters, but the Sookie Stackhouse books are much more entertaining without all the teenage angst of the "Twilight" series. Highly recommend this series as quick reads you can't put down!!

I received books 1-7 of the Sookie Stackhouse novels for my birthday. I was completely finished with the entire set within a week. I couldn't put it down once I started a new book. This is an easy to read, fun collection about all things supernatural. Sookie is a strong female protagonist that seems to be lacking in a lot of books these days. I've already ordered the next two books in the series and am anxiously awaiting their arrival. This is a much more grown up series than the Twilight books so as an adult, I was mush more taken with stories. The books do vary from the storylines on HBO's True Blood series so you can be a fan of both. I highly recommened this series to those who like this genre and/or are fans of True Blood.

I was highly addicted to the whole Trueblood series from the start so my wife bought me the series. We both really liked the whole series and it is a very easy read. I really don't think that the series is very geared toward the male audience but it is not inappropriate or uncomfortable or anything. Like i said it was a very easy read it was not written on a very intellectual level but it kept my interest all the way through and kept me grabbing for the next book.

I love my supernatural books but never have read a full series. The Sookie Stackhouse books I couldn't put down. These books are definately addictive. If you like reading supernatural I know you will love this series. It's nothing like I've read before but I will have to say that they are the best books ive ever read! Sookie is just like the rest of us girls having problems with guys, but her guys are just not human! If there was any book I would recommend anyone it would be the Sookie Stackhouse books. I've never written a review before but I just wanted other people to know how great these books are! The only bad thing I can say is that the books are so short that when I finished a book I was disappointed because I just wanted to keep reading.

I am in a book club and one of the gals said she was ready to read something funny with a little romance. One of the gals recommended the "True Blood" series and that is how Ms. Sookie has become my new best friend!!! You can't help but love her. Our book club selected the first book and lucky for me someone suggested going to the store.com and purchasing the whole series. I have never bought books from the store and thought I would give it a try. It was the best decision I made and I am currently read book #4 and have LOVED ever single minute. When one makes the choice to read Sookie Stackhouse, they tell everyone they know because you just can't keep something that awesome to yourself! Best decision I have made in a long time :)

I have read all 8 books and can hardly wait for the ninth one to come out. Sookie does get a little irritating at times because you just can't believe some of the things that she says!!! I love the twist with the love interests and there is always some action. Great books for the fellow vampire fan!

I really loved the first season of True Blood on Foxtel so I decided to read the Sookie Stackhouse books on which the show is based. The books are written in a very light-hearted style and the pace moves along very quickly. They are kind of written in a 'romance style' so there were times I found the prose a bit yuck but I was invested in the characters (probably because of the TV show) so I kept reading my way through the 7 books. Some of the characters in the TV show are quite true to the book and then there are other characters which are completely different - this was a little disconcerting. I did enjoy them and if you are prepared to accept the 'light' style of writing you might enjoy them too.

Sookie Stackhouse, Books 1-7, plus book #8(I got this bookbefore the other books came). I bought these books for my Grand Daughter for her Birthday. She is really into the vampire books. My Grand Daughter read these books including Book #8 in the sookie stackhouse series, in a little over a week..she said she loved them. Now she wants me to get her Book #9 when it comes out in paperback! I have 3 Grand children, 2 Grand Daughters and one grand son(who likes Si-Fi) I'm a disabled Viet Nam vet and do my best to keep them in books. I got this book because of the set and the price I payed was a great and it included shipping!

Having been a fan of the Southern Vampire series from the onset, I eagerly await each new installment. I was very excited to learn that HBO planned to base a series on these books as I thought they'd have a sure fire hit on their hands. I was very disappointed in their execution, however, as these books are so loosely based on the novels they are more runny than loose. Aside from the names and characteristics of the people and places surrounding Sookie, there's very little from the books in the television show. That's not to say the HBO series isn't good - it's just not the Southern Vampire series the readers have come to know. For me, I'll stick to the books. Each new book is an enjoyable experience; one worth waiting for.

Enjoyable series without much depth, but purely entertaining light read. Sookie is a fun character, and her supporting cast is a believable blend of people and......others. Harris keeps you reading and doesn't bog the stories down with alot of internal dialog, angst and moral dilemmas, on the downside, that keeps you from becoming really invested in the stories. These are for times when you don't want to get caught up in your books, but you want to be entertained.

I had never heard of these books before True Blood and I bought them because I was a fan of the show. At first I was worried that reading them would ruin the show. Having read all 8 books I can say that I a can't wait for the next season to see where they take the show. These books are fantastic. From the first page you are drawn into Sookie's wild and crazy world. I couldn't put any of these books down. I read all 7 in just over a week and was left dying for more. You will not be let down by these books.

Charlaine Harris is a good writer. These books were funny, imaginative, fast moving and well written. What more could
you ask for. There are two more Sookie Stackhouse books at this time. They are just as good.
They are nothing like Ann Rice books, more like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books.

I really enjoyed reading these books, I couldn't put them down and found myself reading them every spare minute I could staying up too late on work nights just to read more. I completed each book within 2-3 days. The story is fun, exciting and seductive I can't wait to see where the story goes in the next books which I have already preordered. After reading Twilight I wanted something else paranormal (and stories with better characters) and read good things about this series. I got a friend hooked, who got another friend hooked. The characters are so well written and the stories made it nearly impossible to put any of them down. The first book starts a tad slow, but after it picks up, it REALLY picks up. Sookie is an awesome heroine. Be warned however, in both my box set and my friends, Dead as A Doornail is out of order.

These books are wonderful fun. My mom, my sister and I have all devoured them and loved them. Sookie, the main character, is vulnerable yet strong and everyone will both identify with and adore her. Ms. Harris seems to have fun (and does a great job) showing what would happen when southern charm meets the paranormal world. The first season of True Blood (HBO) is just about book one. The show is great but the books are better!

I was a big fan of Twilight and had read the series and was looking for something similar to read next. I found these books and I read all nine that are currently on the market and have pre-ordered the 10th. Simply put, these books are fast moving and fun. An enjoyable read, once I started the series I could not put it down, reading every chance I got. Now I am reading them through for the second time. I highly recommend them. Okay so truthfully i bought the set in order to numb the pain of having no more twilight books to read, if thats what your trying to do its not going to help. I do like the series, I will finish reading all the books and then watch the True Blood series.

I originally bought this series in search of something similar to the twilight series. These books aren't really anywhere alike but i will say that the sookie stackhouse novels are very good. They are definitely more for adults. I love how there are like 4 different genres in one book; mystery, romance, humor, supernatual. These books are very entertaining and i recommend them to anyone who likes excitement cause these books will take you into another world. Also it's cool that there is a tv series as well, although there are a lot of differences in the two!! So get this series, you won't regret it!!!!

I was a little hesitant to read this series because I live in the area Harris uses for her series. Harris does a good job of portraying some of the true "characters" in a small southern town, expressing their better qualities, while seamlessly incorporating the paranormal. The series is well written, the dialoque is lively, and the plot twists are great. It was a wonderful summer read.

I really enjoyed this series and promptly purchased the remaining books that are sadly not included in the book set. The stories are engaging, very funny and always neatly wrapped up in endearing southern charm.

This is a really great series if you are into light, adult, and vampire reading. I am a huge Twilight fan and was coming down from that high when I was introduced to this series. It is NOT similar to Twilight other than there being romance and vampires in it. Not the same feel at all. But this is a really good read once you get past that. If that isn't an issue for you than there are no drawbacks whatsoever! Recommended buy, no doubt!

I heard about this series through a friend and had already bought the first one. I loved being able to purchase volumes 1-7, with a discount. Once I get into a series, I pretty much can't stop myself, so it was great to have the next volume right away! If you are into the vampire theme and perhaps enjoyed Twilight; this series is like Twilight for adults, although I found it a little less "serious". A combination of vampire romance and murder mysterious: this series is a great, fun read!

The box set was the perfect way for me to have access to the series without having to buy the books individually. I was glad to have the next book ready to go as soon as the previous was finished. True Blood on HBO snagged my interest and the books are so much better! I LOVE the way Sookie relates to the different characters in the books and her revolving door of supe admirers. The writing is clever and humorous and I found myself cheering on the stubborn mind-reading heroine. The Sookie Stackhouse series is not the best nor the worst series I've read. The author is quite repetitive in some of her details and by the third book, it begins to slow down the story. It does have elements of a mystery/romance/sci fi novel. And in that regard, it is quite entertaining. I don't know how strongly I'd recommend this series, but it was cheap and I didn't have any other novels to read, so it fit my bill. Not nearly as well written as the Twilight series, but it was OK.

I'm in my forties and got interested in the Twilight Saga from my teenage daughter and read all four books which I really loved. I was looking for something interesting to sink my teeth into (so to speak), and came across this series of books by Charlaine Harris. Where Twilight is a modern day love story with a vampire twist, the Sookie Stackhouse series is more of an adventure where Sookie (the main character) finds herself in all kinds of crazy predicaments due to her main love interest, vampire Bill. The story line is dark, sexy and hilarious in some parts, a really good, fast paced summer read. You can also watch TrueBlood on HBO, the series based on these books where the characters really come to life.

I say it is like a vampire Soap Opera, because it truly is. It is full with drama and suspense with a little romance on the side. Personally, I felt that the best analogy for it would be like staring at a car accident...you know you shouldn't, but you can't look away. I finished these books in less than a week, and can't wait to get books 8 and 9. Do yourself a favor and buy these books or go to the library and check them out. Although the series True Blood is not entirely true to the book, both are fun and fascinating. I almost laugh out loud as more and more magical creatures appear in the Sookie Stackhouse novels. What fun! and of course the love scenes rival Twilight. The series has dramas that keeps you reading into the wee hours, just to see how it all turns out. I am on my 4th book of the series, and am waiting to see if Bill becomes part of Sookie's life again.

I decided to get these after being hooked onto the entire 4 books in twilight and the popularity of True Blood, the TV series. The idea of of vampires is quite different than that of twilight and I was a first, a bit disappointed. However, the more i read it, the thriller and romance part kind of got me attracted. If you like Twilight (like I did) then you'll LOVE this. Sookie Stackhouse novels has a Southern flair that you'll appreciate if you're from the south (or have a sense of humor at all). This absolutely is not for teenagers or tweens. Charlaine Harris has a brilliant imagination & can entertain me with every page. All I can say is give me some Eric the Viking or Quinn the Were!! I can't wait to see it all play out on True Blood on HBO. I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone (and have).

Delightful and entertaining. Charlaine Harris creates a wonderful world of whimsical characters. She brings fantasy creatures such as vampires, witches, and werewolves into a present day setting, combining conflicts many readers face in their day to day lives with ones we will only face in our imaginations. Easy to read yet hard to put down. This series touches many genres and is suited for any reader looking for a fun story as long as they enjoy comedy a little on the dark side.

Not only are these books amazing, quick reads, but ordering from the store.com was such an easy, worry-free process. The steps were very easy to follow, as always, and my books arrived right on time. I love the tracking information, too. The whole process was super easy, and I love reading others' reviews. You can rest assured that I will be making many more purchases on the store.com after this one!Sookie Stackhouse, Books 1-7 [BOX SET] (Mass Market Paperback)

I love these books. Buying in a set is the best way to go. I only have one problem with Ms. Harris...I can't wait until May to get the next book. I have actually thought of calling her and forcing her to tell me the whole story. The HBO series is great too, but it does deviate from her plots and the whole first year is just the first book. Do yourself a favor and get these books!

The minute I recieved the Sookie Stackhouse series in the mail I could not stop reading them.I read these books and the latest Sookie Stackhouse book "From Dead to Worse" a total of 8 books in under three weeks.Charlaine Harris knows how to write and keep you wanting more. I can not wait for her latest Sookie Stackhouse "Dead and Gone" to come out in May 2009. This is a great purchase I will probably start rereading them waiting till May 2009 for the new Sookie Stackhouse book.

I love all the Sookie Stackhouse books. I had read them all before they made the set. So, when I saw that the set was available, I jumped on it. I have been a fan of this series since before it was a television show. After my husband saw the first episode of True Blood, he wanted to read the books, too. Great books!

if you are a fan of the true blood series, you will enjoy these books. the show scripts are completely out of the pages of these novels, and they answer some questions that you may have about some characters.
but as a fan i am waiting to read some books until the show resumes so it will not ruin the experience. this is the first time where the show is exact to the book, and i say why change perfection. highly recommend this biting into this series.

I have seen the first season of True Blood and enjoyed it, have also been reading different vampire novels, so I ordered this set. I am unexpectedly delighted with Charlaine Harris's writing!!! She has created a wonderful character in Sookie Stackhouse (I just love the way she talks/thinks). This is not only a nice, interesting, and fun collection of books but a really good value, too. Oh, and MUCH better than watching it on TV-even though that's fun, too. Enjoy!

The story between HBO TV show and this original book are a little different. However, the author's fantajic world explore wild. I really enjoyed reading. The one thing, I did not know this story is still contine to next book #8 From Dead to Worse (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 8) till the end of #7......I ordered hard cover one, as soon as I knew. Also pre-ordered #9 Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 9),too.

I began reading this series last month and I am now totally addicted. I can hardly wait until book 9 comes out! I can't believe I have to wait until May. This series is so exciting to me! I read the entire series in a week and a half....I would have read them sooner but I work and I have kids! I recommend this series to everyone. Hmmm, I wish I could meet a real vampire...like Eric! LOL! Enjoy!

I really enjoyed reading these books. The only thing that really irritated me was the constant reminder of characters and their descriptions. Bubba for instance. I get that these books are meant to stand alone, but its slightly annoying. Other than that I always want to see what happens next. Plus there are elements of surprise.

Great series, the boxset's the way to go if you're new to the story like I was, I hate finishing a book in two days and having to wait a month (or longer) for the next one.
These books are brain-candy, an easy read with just enough going on to keep you engaged but not so much that you have to flip back through chapters. The characters are interesting and you find yourself drawn to Sookie even if you have nothing at all in common with her.

Loved all the books in this series. I started reading the Twilight series, finished those, and was anxious for more to read! The Sookie books did the trick, and has me anxiously awaiting book 9! Highly recommend this series to any vampire romance readers. More adult oriented - some language & sexual scenarios that are not for teens. I have already loaned the books out a few times to fellow readers who also love them.

This series is very disappointing to say the least. The writing reminds me of some some bad fan fiction writer and there are far too many - unnecessary - secondary characters, which makes it all so confusing.
Sookie's reaction to various murders is not believable. It's like she's all shocked one second, and the next she's already moved on to other things.
Though the main idea of vampires coming out is quite good, some plot related issues really don't tie out.
I guess some dialogues are supposed to be funny, but the writing is so poor that it just does not have that effect (on me, at least).
All in all, a very disappointing read. I'm fighting my way through the 2nd book but I'm not sure I will manage to finish them all.
My advice is to first buy the first 2 books and see how you like them. But be warned, as far as good writing, plot and characters are concerned, this does not even come close to Stephenie Meyer, Richelle Mead or Cassandra Clare.

I can't think of a better word to describe how I felt after reading these books than "enchanted". You fall in love with the characters, the whole story line, and Sookie's passion to defend the ones she loves. If you are into the supernatural and fantasy, these are the books for you. I was not able to put the book down. I am tempted to start reading them all over again :) Great collection to have in your home.

I read all 8 of the southern vampire series in about 5 days. I had watched the whole series True Blood on HBO and I was addicted to that. But unfortunately the show is nothing in comparison to the books. I am officially a charlaine Harris fan and am looking into her other series. I am not the type of person to leave reviews for thing but this is one thing i had to do. I tell everyone to watch the show or read the book. THE BEST

I enjoy these books they are definitely geared more toward the female readers. At first I was skeptical about buying the set because I wasn't too sure if i would be into science fic/ fantasy stuff but so far its great. The vampires are your typical sleep in a coffin, stay away from garlic and can't go in the sun type. Im only on the 2nd book and so far sookie and bill have a very active sex life, good for her!! The books are an easy read perfect if you're going on a flight somewhere. I would recommend this to any vampire fan

Great fun books! Each episode of Sookie is exciting and entertaining. Sookie has more problems than Jack Bauer trying to deal with all the supernaturals living in Bon Temps. Though at this point I haven't read the entire 7 piece set, I have enjoyed the first three. I only picked this selection based on reviews and the fact that it was highly rated. I had no idea wat to expect after just having finished the Twilight series.
Well, what a surprise! Not only is it a "grown ups" only (none of the really mushy stuff) in the way the sex is written about but it's incredibly funny! The stories are are so well written and ones those "can't put it down" reads, I was glad I bought the set as I finished 4 books in 1 week.
Good work.

With today's obsession with vampires, Charlaine Harris' books about a young telepathic woman who becomes tangled in the world of vampires fits right in. I found the books to be delightful and fun. Although, not one of the best authors I've read, the story is fun and kept me reading. The only things that really bother me about the books is that she has people wearing banana clips and scrunchies and nylon nightgowns, very 80's sounding.
