This book was set up very well from the beginning. The author quickly introduced you to the lead male and female, Sebastian and Kaderin.
What I like about them is that their love was different from Lachlain and Emmaline's romance (Book 1: A hunger like no other) but it was just as engaging. In fact, I found this book to have a quicker pace as well as more better relationship development.

Sebastian is just a gentleman. He worked very hard to win Kaderin's love. In fact, at times I wondered, what is Katja (his pet name for her) waiting...I mean people have given it up for far less effort on a man's part (LOL).
In her defense, Kaderin is as fearless and competitive as any male counterpart I have read. She is so focused on her goals and what she wants. She is a fighter and will do everything in her power to be reunited with her sisters.

I found myself wanting them to realize that they will heal each other if they let go of the past and focused on each other. But I guess that was part of their journey and discovery together. The author unwound this story very nicely. I couldn't wait to get to the end.

I am excited that the second installment didn't disappoint me. I look forward to reading Book 3.

I think I liked this installment of the Immortals After Dark series even better than the first. The plot was an intense adventure as Kaderin and Sebastian battle to win a ruthless contest, with a reward that can rewrite mistakes of the past. Kresley Cole's dedication to her world building continues to impress me.

Kaderin the Cold Hearted has so much at stake and won't let anything or anyone get in her way. She is determined to resurrect her sisters that died as a result of a vampire attack long ago. Sebastian is a vampire, something Kaderin has learned to hate with an unparalleled passion. When the sexy male continues to insist she is his mate and won't give up, her feelings slowly soften.

I loved Kaderin! Even though she is stubborn as hell, she realizes that she desires Sebastian. She's funny, sexy, and a very strong female heroine. We have to root for our hero as he desperately tries to turn her cold heart warm. The dialogue and secondary characters were all done to perfection.

The sex was hot and intense. The romance, as with Kresley Cole's other books, was slow developing, which made it much sweeter in the end. If you want an excellent paranormal romance to get completely lost in, then pick up your copy of No Rest for the Wicked!

Another sexy Wroth brother, Sebastian, is the hero for this story. Another vampire killing Valkyrie, Kaderin, is the heroine. While this author is able to tell her reader the story specific to these two characters, she is also able to include the happenings of other important characters. The Hie was a most incredible addition to the story, had me thinking "ah the games immortals play." I wonder about the tortured Bowen and how he will be salvaged. To me the plot of the story was two fold and did not disappoint. The plot perfectly fit the coming together of the two main characters and then continued on with the original story of the coming epic war.

I am currently reading Macrieve and was wondering why I kept thinking about my all time favorite IAD book. This would be it. I have read this book SOOOO many times. I just love the devotion that Sebastian has for Kaderin. Right from the start when he realizes that he's been blooded he's like gung ho for her. It takes some time, but you see her starting to fall for him as well. This leaves room in the book for the love to bloom. It (thankfully) doesn't happen right at the end. He doesn't hate her right from the start. She doesn't "entirely" hate him. You see that more after the note she leaves him on the bed side ... cute. Overall the story line flowed rather well and the sex scenes were pretty good. Not too crazy.

sidenote: I hate when the love all happens in the last 2 chapters. What a waste.

Anyways, I think this is in my Top 3 IAD books. This being the first. Definitley read.

Still waiting on Melanthe and the broken wing guy's story ....... hope Mrs. Cole is working on that.

And the epic world just continues!

No Rest for the Wicked follows Sebastian Wroth (Nikolai's brother from the first book Warlord Wants Forever) and Kaderin the Cold Hearted, a Valkyrie who is "blessed" with no emotional feelings.

That is, until she meets Sebastian....

These two pretty entertaining with their mission to win in the immortal competition (think Hunger Games, but for immortals and staying alive isn't the only reward).

Kaderin just can't fathom that she's blooded a vampire and can't handle all these new emotions welling up inside of her.

Poor Sebastian just wants to spoil her and take care of her. C'mon, give the poor vamp a break!!

Sebastian Wroth was turned vampire by his older brother Nikolai against his will and has been miserable and lonely ever since. Hes been residing in a castle getting blood from a butcher to survive this horrible existence and is ready to give up.

Kaderin the Cold Hearted, a Valkyrie who is devoid of any emotion which makes her the perfect killer. Kaderin is called by the towns people to get rid of this darkness that lingers in the old castle. When she accepts and is standing in front of this vampire she hesitates... and these two people who cant feel, start feeling things. Kaderin... emotion and Sebastian... his heart.

Another great book. I really like the Amazing Race aspect to it. I felt really sorry for Bowen and Im really happy hes getting his book next.

This was a spectacular story. For me, the basic idea is that a socially awkward, but possessive, male lead is hooked up with a 2 thousand year old emotionally challenged (she has been prevented from 'feeling' for 1000 years, so the new emotions that come with mating are hard for her to juggle), female lead who is a world renowned athlete and celebrity. The guy is a 300 year old recluse (he hates being a Vampire, and gets his blood from the local butcher shop), who is not as familiar with contemporary customs. He resists mini-skirts and spikey boots. He expects his mate to be compliant and maleable. He learns that is not going to work when he tries to superimpose his more rigid ideas of proper wifely behavior on the Valkyrie.

The gentlmanly Sebastian's language and demeanor are perfectly suited to the knight and soldier that he was during his human life. Meanwhile the Valkyrie commune where the female lead lives is like a sorority filled with giggling twenty year olds who are into dating, partying, and hanging out. I loved how Kresley Cole wove the two cultures together.

But the best part is the Valkryie. Kadenrin (I've forgotten how to spell her name), is one of these kick-butt and take names, types. The mating event comes at the most inconvenient of times - not only does she hate Vampires, but she's about to enter a contest that happens every 250 years, and she's representing the Valkryie species! Sebastian shows up and tries to get her to quit the contest. I don't think so!! She resists him, and resists being his 'Bride' very realistically, and heart wrenchingly. The tension between the two of them is delicious, and the sex is hot!!! Sebastian has to work a little harder than he expected to dominate his Valkyrie and prove himself worthy of being the mate of someone like her. She's vulnerable because of the fact that she finds her 'coldness' is melting in the presence of her mate - very disconcerting for her.

I'm not fond of the Vampire sub-genre of romantic fiction, but this story is compelling whether you enjoy fangs or not. Sebastian proves his love, in the end, and becomes a hero. The Valkyrie is rapidly becoming my favorite female lead of all the books I've read in this genre. You go girl! I wanna be just like her when I grow up! Most of all, I'm impressed with Kresley Cole. I'm ready to go out and read much more of her books. The universe of fantastic creatures she's created is engaging, realistic, and 'round': contemporary and old. Well done!

"Hunger Like No Other" made me promise to myself that I will buy all of Cole's books from now on, and kudos for her for staying soft-cover, unlike a lot of authors who switch to hardcover. I appreciate that. I am a total fan of Cole's - she writes a love scene like few do. Whew.

That being said, I did like her first book better, because of the characters. I loved Lachlain and Emmaline, and while Sebastian is a GREAT character, Kaderin left ME a little cold. I wanted her to throw Sebastian down a lot sooner than she did. But then, he is a sweetie, it was obvious. If any man needed some loving, vampire or not, it was him.

I didn't like the whole race thing, but I did think, as a Survivor fan, that the poster of Jeff Probst was very funny. A "thinking woman's sex symbol" indeed. I sort of skimmed the race parts, to be honest. But the scene with Kaderin seducing Sebastian with alternate methods was worth the price of the book, right there. Very hot.

Like I said, I'll buy the next one, Cole is that good.

Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series continues with this stunning addition. In this book we meet Sebastian Wroth, a reticent vampire who was turned against his will by his brother. Though Sebastian curses his immortality, he does what is necessary to keep himself alive--though he gets his blood from the butcher and not from humans. When a beautiful Valkyrie comes to kill him, he awaits death without fear and is even eager for it since it will free him from the bounds of immortality. But when her very presence brings blood back into veins that have been dry for hundreds of years, Sebastian finds a reason to live again...

Kaderin the Coldhearted watched her sisters, and fellow triplets, be murdered by the one vampire she ever hesitated to kill. Accordingly, she now kills without remorse and with no hesitation. So it's surprising when this dark-haired leech makes her think twice before using her sword. A blessing bestowed on her after the death of her sisters stripped Kaderin of the ability to feel all emotion. So when being near Sebastian starts to make her feel things again, she is confused and aroused. Giving in to the emotion, Kaderin the Coldhearted, fearless warrior and stunning Valkyrie, begins to fall for her worst enemy.

Sebastian is a novel hero, because unlike a lot of romantic heroes, he has little experience with women both sexually and emotionally. He gets nervous being around a strong, confident woman like Kaderin and has to keep reminding himself that she's his Bride. It's amusing and romantic at the same time that she's the one to teach him about the joys of love. Kaderin is an equally engaging heroine since she's not caught up in drama and emotions (since she hasn't felt them in thousands of years). The rest of the members of the Lore look up to her as this fearless woman who is a force to be reckoned with and when they see her getting soft around Sebastian it provides a lot of interesting commentary.

Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series started with A Hunger Like No Other, one of the best vampire novels I've ever had the pleasure of reading. After reading it, I was pretty sure she couldn't do much better. I was proved wrong with this book. No Rest for the Wicked is just as passionate, engaging, and entertaining as AHLNO, and in better in some ways. There are no end to the great things I could say about this book, so I'll just say that it's wonderful, you should run out and buy it, and I cannot wait for the next book in this series, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night(which, coincidentally, is previewed at the end of the book. Its hero is Bowen MacRieve, best friend of Lachlain from AHLNO, and the heroine is Mariketa the Awaited, a witch who you meet in this book.)

Kaderin & Sebastian are my favorite Immortals after Dark couple so far.
No Rest for the Wicked was an amazing story from beginning to end.
I just love Kresley Cole's writing style and the way she sucks you into the story with some fab charachters.

Kaderin the Coldhearted, who hasn't felt any emotion for centuries, suddenly feels again and all because she encounters Sebastian Wroth, a handsome vampire.
Sebastian Wroth is desperate to win het over cause she is the mate he's been waiting for, his vampire Bride! But his Bride hates vampires with a passion, sees them as monsters, leeches and could never love or trust one.
Sebastian isn't planning on giving up because he will have his Bride by his side and little by little Kaderin sees beyond the vampire and sees the man... a loyal, honorable male she could fall in love with.

Each one of these books ruins me further and further. The men in Kresley Cole's head will be the death of me. Bastian has got to be the sexiest, sweetest, most fascinating one yet.

And I thought Lachlain had destroyed me. *shaking head*

I'm honestly afraid to go onto the next one. I don't think I'll survive another werewolf. Hell no. The vampires have torn me apart, the one werewolf I read is still haunting me...but I'm utterly addicted

So masochistic that it may make me...I'm off to the next one! LOL

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! If you haven't started reading Kresley's books yet, trust me on this: YOU ARE MISSING OUT!

I am not a huge fan of romance books. I find that after awhile they all are formulatic and all you need to do to read a different book is change the couple's names and the location of the story. I recently found that I do enjoy some of the paranormal romance stories out there, but they aren't as near and dear to me as their cousins, urban fantasy. After seeing the Immortals After Dark showing up on my recommendation list for ages I read "A Hunger Like No Other" awhile back and I was floored! The writing was so good, the characters so evolved...and the romance was actually romantic..and hot hot hot! After reading so many romances sometimes the love scenes feel more like you are reading an instruction manaul ie: "Phillip inserted tab A into Manuella's slot B. She moaned." Somehow Kresley makes her scenes unbelieveably erotic and unique. I actually don't skip ahead the sex scene pages and I do that far too often when I read. "No Rest For the Wicked" continued to be unique and exciting. This story was about Kaderin, a Valkyrie, who was 'gifted' with the inability to feel. This 'gift' helps Kaderin become a kick butt figter and force to be reckoned with. She unabashedly kills vampires from the Horde, evil and killing bloodsuckers. So when she meets Sabastian she wants his head. But soon she finds that he isn't an evil vampire, or an evil person. He recognizes that she is to be his Bride. But its going to take a lot of effor on Sabastian's part to convince her of that. When Kaderin signs up on to be in a Legendary Hunt, an otherworld version of the Amazing Race, Sabastian joins her...willing to offer help she doesn't want to accept. There is enough story here, enough action in their journey to more than keep my interest in the book. Cole never loses sight of the fact that romance or not, she has to keep the story flowing. The love scenes are plentiful but they don't overtake the story. And unlike other paranormal romances (some I enjoy), this book is nothing like its predecessor. Looking at this book as a romantic novel, there is no way this story could be less than five star. If if I were to look at it as a paranormal tale without the main focus on the romance I would still give it between 3 1/2 to 4 stars. I eagerly anticipate reading the next books in this series.

When Kaderin is sent to a castle to kill a vampire it is Sebastian who she meets, a human turned vampire. Instead of taking his life she is giving him life, because from the moment their mouths meet, their tongues start to dance. A kiss of life is given as Sebastian's body recognizes his Bride and the Blooding starts to hum through every cell, his heart starts to pump again, lungs fill with air as his body roars to life. This is possibly the most erotic moment in Sebastian's life....until his Bride runs from him as the sun rises over the hills.

Sebastian never had much to live for but Kaderin is all the reason he needs. Adapting to this era he traces Kaderin in to a room full of magical beings. Every chosen one from their factions in entering The Hie, a contest where all need to seek magical artifacts and thereby can win points, whoever three reaches the 78 point marker first will enter the finals. The ultimate price: an artifact that will allow the owner to jump back into time twice. Kaderin has lost her two sisters a thousand years ago and now she has a chance at bringing them back and no warrior with a body that advertises to sin is going to distract her...much. When Sebastian finds a way to enter The Hie there is a smile of pure male satisfaction on his face, this contest just gotten a whole new power to reckon with!

In this Hie the stakes have never been so high....

No rest for the wicked is a masterfully told tale, it engages the reader in to a contest with vivid personalities whom are all driven to find the next artifact, and they all want or need the prize for some personal reason. The past of Kaderin and Sebastian is so well developed that it enhances the impact of their emotions. The setting of The Hie and all the Lykae's, Valkyrie's, Vampires and other beings are more than enough proof of the enticing world that Kresley Cole created, still it doesn't take the focus from the main couple, no it makes it all the more dynamic and gripping as their love awakens and evolves amd artifacts are found.

There are many fabulous secondary characters though Bowen captured my attention, he is so tortured that he screams for his own story, I can only hope that Kresley Cole hears him and tells this story sooner than later. The love between Kaderin and Sebastian is slowly working its way in to an absolutely unforgettable romance with at the end a heart wrenching moment that rendered me breathless. Their sensual encounters also take time to be build up and crest into a steaming eruption of hungry bodies and passionatly written scenes that almost burn your fingers as you turn the pages. Sebastian, though a gentleman and a man of honor, roars his claim, fulfilling all my wants and desires of what I love to see in a hero. Together they tell a spectacular and well paced tale of romance and adventure leaving room for future stories to be told.

With that Kresley Cole has enthralled me, leaving me wanting for more, curious of the further world building because I still feel many questions need to be answered. The Accession coloring the setting of the Immortals after dark world is intriguing, The Factions are for me a superb vision of fantasy which I want more of and with that it leaves me with nothing more to tell everybody than that I'm satisfied from start to finish with this tale

I can't wait for those next entries is this series! No rest for the wicked solidifies the quality of the Immortal after dark novels.

In Castle Gorny, Russia, Valkyrie Kaderin "the Cold Hearted" continues her quest to avenge the deaths of her sisters, but to her chagrin and shock she hesitates to kill this particular vampire in spite of her personal vow to never linger when the kill is there. This is only the second time in her life as a slayer that she pauses; the first time ended in tragedy.

Sebastian Wroth realizes instantly who Kaderin is besides the Valkyrie ready to kill him. She is his soul mate whose arrival has given him reason to rejoice in "living" for the first time in perhaps two centuries. She shares his deepest feelings, but he is a member of her enemy species. He intends to make her his bride, but to win her; Sebastian enters the "Hie" ultimate paranormal fighting competition that she has won several times. Let the games begin.

Kresley Cole consistently provides the best paranormal romantic thrillers on the market today (see A HUNGER LIKE NO OTHER). Her latest is a fantastic star-crossed tale starring two adversaries in a forbidden love that besides battling one another in the Hie can only lead in Kaderin's mind, to her choosing between her beloved supportive family and her soul-mate vampire. Sub-genre readers will want to follow the exploits of this Valkyrie and her beloved enemy who has heated her cold heart.

My favorite romance authors are Diana Gabaldon, Stephanie Meyer (so far), and Jane Austen. I've now added Kresley Cole to that list, although she obviously takes the story further ;-) She doesn't use slang or fashion that dates the characters, unless it is a historical romance. Her historical romance accuracy has been brought up in comments, but I didn't find any errors distracting. The heroes sound like real men, whereas some authors write the hero in such a way that I can't tell the difference between him and the heroine. Her heroes don't seem to cross the line into being misogynists either. Her heroines are relatable, usually strong, and never painfully oblivious or dumb. Some of her books are better than others, but compared to other authors in this genre they are all worthy of 5 stars.

This is definitely a great story with very interesting characters. I have to admit that I did find A Hunger Like No Other a bit better, but these characters grow on you (Sebastian and Kaderin). (On a side note, I loved how Kaderin was experiencing getting her feelings/emotions back after 1,000 years. Makes for some VERY funny scenes.) I wasn't that thrilled with having them as the main characters for an entire book, but towards the middle, I really did change my mind and was enthralled. I loved that they seemed, at various stages, to fight their attraction to another only to discover it went much deeper. I guess I love the sappy love stories.
On a whole, I love Ms. Cole's writing, as well as this really fascinating world that she has created. I definitely recommend this book and am anxiously awaiting the next book!! If you want something a bit steamier, I would recommend A Hunger Like No Other.

Kaderin the Cold-Hearted is a Valkyrie who has fought vampires for millennia. After hesitating to kill a vampire in battle one day, he destroyed her beloved sisters. A mysterious entity removed the sorrow that threatened to destroy Kaderin, but all her other emotions disappeared as well. That was a thousand years ago, and she has been a ruthless hunter to this day.

Three centuries ago, Sebastian Wroth was turned into a vampire against his will. He has lived in solitude ever since. Although he manages to live without taking human blood, he cannot see his goodness. When a gorgeous, petite woman appears to kill him, he does not resist his fate.

Instead of killing Sebastian, Kaderin spares him for reasons she can't explain. All she knows is that his presence somehow triggers the emotions she hasn't felt in a thousand years. She can't afford to lose her "blessing," because she needs all her dispassionate strength to enter a renowned treasure hunt with a prize that can save her sisters' lives. When Sebastian suddenly becomes a part of her life, she's not sure she can live without him. But to keep him around, she'll be forced to give up her sisters. Never has Kaderin's will been so tested. And never has Kaderin been faced with the promise of love that can endure through all time.

In Kresley Cole's second installment to her "Immortals After Dark" series, she revisits an intricate world rife with preternatural creatures and tensions. Warring immortal factions inhabit today's world, with few humans aware of dangers that lie just out of reach; and sometimes not even that far. Cole's masterfully crafted world is more complete in her second novel than seen in some entire series from the genre. Paranormal fans will liken her talent to such popular authors such as Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lori Handeland, and Christine Feehan.

Cole's name will certainly be a standard on the shelves of paranormal romance fans everywhere. In her world, anything can happen.

A great follow up book to her best seller (and one of my favorites!) A Hunger Like No Other. In this book we meet up with more creatures from the lore...vampires, valkyre, werewolves, witches, goddesses, sirens and more. As with all Kresley Cole books, this book weaves a thrilling, steamy love story with a great ending. Another "must read". If you like paranormal romances, you will LOVE this book. In this book we meet two very different hero/heroine's than we met in AHLNO. Kadira is a cold-hearted Valkrye warrior who has devoted her life to killing vampires, and Sebastian is a reclusive vampire, locked up in his castle, that wants nothing to do with the outside world.

Although I loved this book, I must first say I had at hard time warming up to the cold-hearted heroine, at least until she began to thaw. Short of that, this book was fantastic. When we first meet Kadira, she is a well-known vampire-killing warrior that is anything but sweet and demure. Everyone fears her. She has a hardened "tough chick" persona, and she regularly battles beasts and lore enemies with a vile vengeance. Sebastian, our Hero vampire, was easy to warm up to!! Dang, I loved how Kresley Cole developed this character. He craves Kadira passionately, and risks life and limb to be with her. On a humorous note, he also lacks much experience with women. His struggles with being a vampire (he was turned against his will) and his uncertainties of knowing what women want, makes him one of the most adorable, yummy vampire hero's I have read in any paranormal yet. Overall, a fantastic book.

Kresley Cole takes you into the world of vampires and Valkyre in a way that no one else can. She makes you love the characters and long for something great to happen to them even though at times they are less than likeable!

Sebastian Wroth is a vampire that has found his bride but his bride Kaderin the Cold Hearted is a Valkyre that does not wish to be found by her mortal enemy the vampire. She hunts these creatures of the night and slays them with such a vengeance her reputation her badge of pride. Both of these characters have suffered through centuries of pain and loss but each is trying to find a way to replace the pain and feel the comforts of life yet again.

But Sebastian is not to be thwarted in his relentless pursuit of Kadja even during her participation in the HIE where the prize of time travel is the reward. Kadja sees this as a way to find and save her beloved sisters from the fate they were dealt. Sebastian uses his abilities to follow and assist Kaderin in her goal and convince her that she is his chosen mate and that they lives are destined to be together forever.

There is a cast of additional characters in this book that never cease to amuse and delight and I wait for each of their stories to be told. Kresley Cole has a wit and sense of dry humor that is always pleasing to read.

This book while a tad more action packed due to the HIE participation is an excellent read and most enjoyable at every level. Ms. Cole never fails to please her audience and when choosing a book one that is impossible to put down is always a first choice!

Kresley Cole is one of the best authors of immortal romance EVER!

I have read too many books to list in this genre from many best selling authors and can not remember what sets one book apart from another, except when it comes to Mrs. Cole's Dark series.
Her characters are beyond sexy and yet so vunerable it makes their need for each other so much more real. I find myself laughing out loud and caught off guard several times during her stories when one of the characters says something that makes perfect sense but is so off the wall funny, I need a minute or two to stop giggling and pick the book back up again.

To tell you the truth "No Rest for the Wicked" isn't even her best work out of the three books, but it is still so worth reading.

All of the men and women featured in her Immortals books are all very different from one another, and all very easy to relate to, yet they still remain three very different stories with different personalities, struggles passions and abilities, unlike most romance novels where the same story line and characters are recycled over and over again.

Anyway, my point is GET THIS BOOK and anything else in the Immortals After Dark Series right away. I guarantee you'll love them all!!!!!

p.s. Did I mention that the love scenes in her books are beyond hot! Beyond incredible! Beyond imaginative! Beyond wild, and beyond sweet?....Well if I didn't, then there you have it.

The second installment of the IAD series, No Rest for the Wicked, was a fantastic read. The loved the tormented character of Sebastian Wroth. The book grabs you from the very beginning where he is ready to die and puts up no fight when Kaderin the Cold Hearted is sent to kill him. But instead, when they make contact he becomes blooded and recognizes her as his bride. His total determination to win her over is what makes this a great one for me. He is strong and unapologetic in his quest to win her heart.

Kaderin, on the other hand, is the most reluctant Lore creature to have been matched with a vampire. Her hatred and distrust for all vampires, whether their eyes are red or not is only one of the challenge that Sebastian has to overcome. Kaderin is also void of emotions...thus the Cold-Hearted part of her name. But with him, she is suddenly feeling things and this scares her as well.

Overall, I liked the backdrop to the story with them going through the Talisman's Hie. The love scenes were good, especially the ones in her apartment :) But if I could I would have given this 4 1/2 stars because it is not the best in the series. Compared to the others it comes in at around 4th place. It is still really good, but I was never able to truly get on board with Kaderin. Her character was a little too cold for me to really care about. I loved Sebastian and wanted him to succeed, but I wasn't pulling for Kaderin in the same way.

As I stated in my review of A Hunger Like No Other, I almost did not continue reading this series after I read that book. I just didn't like it...Two years later, I randomly decided to give the series another go. I am so glad I did. I'm totally hooked and really enjoy Cole's storytelling. This book - Kaderin and Sebastian's story - is one of my favorites of the entire series. I loved Kaderin's "badassness" and that Sebastian was a thinking-man's hero (albeit a brainiac who still has a body of a God :-) Their chemistry leapt off the page for me and the backdrop of the Hie made for a very fast-paced read.

This is the second book by Kresley Cole that I have read, and I've gotta say she's quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

I really like her writing style, even though I don't usually like reading book that are narrated from a third person pov, but I think Cole does a wonderful job writing from both Sebastian's and Kaderin's pov. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I would definitely recommend that people read the other books in the series! In this book Kaderin is a Valkyrie who has been unable to feel emotions thanks to a 'blessing' put on her by a goddess. However, one wicked encounter with Sebastian Wroth, a wickedly sexy vampire changes it all!

I really enjoyed reading about The romance between Kade and Bastain because it was believable and it wasn't just based on sex like it tends to be in other books. I really liked that there weren't many sex scenes, yet the book remained steamy and was filled with wicked sexual tension. To say the least this book was enjoyable and worth the $6 I paid for it! I highly recommend this book to people and this book is definitely one I want to go back and re-read! I give this book 4.5 stars.

This was an OK read, but I won't be reading it again.

I thought it would be a good book starting with when Kaderin and Sebastian first meet. It was action packed and dramatic and romantic, then...nothing. She hates him, he wants her...and that repeats for the rest of the book. And I cannot figure out why he wants her at all, except for the fact that she is his "bride".

Kaderin was way too mean, crude and rude. I didn't like her at all. All the killing she did and does just makes her seem like a manly unfeeling beast. She's not feminine, and not nice.

Like she just sat there while Regin is trying to cut his head off with 2 swords repeatedly. Uh, excuse me? Wasn't she supposed to have her feelings back especially when he was around? Because she continues to be unfeeling while he is around.

Sebastian I actually liked, but I could not stand the way Kaderin treated him, it was almost like abuse. And I was not comfortable with that, considering all the things she hated about him, he already hated about himself so she definatly was not helping him. She did not deserve him. He was too nice and gentle. She was a brute.

This is the first book where the reviews seem to be clouding my opinion. I really liked this book and I am enjoying this series. Kresley Cole does a good job telling both perspectives of the main characters. As the books build, I am learning all about "the Lore" and their rich history. This book had a lot of passion and when the characters do consummate the relationship, it's electric. I look forward to reading more books in the series and like how the characters from the past move forward in future books. This was was definitely a "re-read".

It's obvious that people have different tastes, but I am happy to see that almost everybody appreciates Mrs. Cole's writing skills! She is very talented and recognizable in her writing (which is MAJOR thing in our days). I was not a fan of the genre prior to her series and now I am really impatient getting the two new books scheduled for this year.
I don't intend to comment the plot, there are many reviews doing it. Personally, I've loved Sebastian because he is not the usual very sure and dominant male, but he is intelligent enough to find the best way in reaching his female (and not only in bed, even if the love scenes are very well written and their number is very well balanced in the entire book). These two really fit together in my opinion. I've also appreciated the idea that "brides" are vampires' mates, but this does not mean love has to be automatically involved, you still have to try hard for it!

I like the Immortals After Dark series, and I will continue to read them despite the average rating that I give this book....

A Hunger Like No Other was a really great book (see my review)...this one not so much..here are the reasons:

* I don't watch "The amazing race", although I know it's popular. I thought it was kind of hooky that Cole would try to infuse the popularity of a TV show into a paranormal romance. It didn't sit well.
* The romance was more of a "I can't believe your my Bride so I guess I'll have to live with you" romance. I never really believed that these two would've "chosen" each other.
* I thought that Kaderin was an extremely unlikeable lead and for that matter so was Sebastion. He was kind of a weak personality in contrast to Kaderin's strong personality.

All that said..I am a huge Lykae fan and the character of Bowen is intriguing and I can't wait for his story next.

The Immortals After Dark series is by far one of the best paranormal series out today. You get complete stories with well-developed characters, scenes and plot lines (often missing in some paranormal series). Yet, Cole changes it up by making the series about all different creatures in her Lore.

Here, Kaderin the Cold and Sebastian Wroth have a great love story. They are mortal enemies, but Sebastian won't let that stand in the way of his pursuit of Kaderin. The reader gets to go along for the ride as they compete in the Talisman's Hie, an immortal Amazing Race. It's fun and interesting. Funny and passionate.

Cole is one of the great writers of paranormal. I highly recommend her series to anyone who likes the genre.

I got hooked on Kresely Cole after reading some of Christine Feehan's books and found Cole's titles under searches for Feehan. This is a FUN read, with Lore characters who have very human imperfections. Cole's toungue-in-cheek humor has me laughing out loud while reading; her wit (with its many meanings) is sharp and priceless. My husband, a fan of the sci-fi genre, is hooked on Cole's books, as well. The Hero, Sebastion Wroth - while strong and possessive, is not perfect (thank God) or unfailing. The heroine has her own share of very human faults - which makes this story all the more readable. The adventures/competition they join - initially as competitors, eventually as a team - is great fun to read and leaves all kinds of open ends for great stories to follow. This story line is enormously fun, and reminds me of the movie "The Great Race" with a fun, paranormal (LORE) twist full and embodies the saying "All is fair in love and war".

It is NOT the "same-old same-old He-man finds, then owns woman". I love dominant males (am married to one) - but love the Dominant male who admires his partner's traits and trusts in his partner as much as he expect his partners to trust in him. Plus, this hero PINES for his partner.

After reading the first book in this series "A Hunger Like No Other", I started this one. I liked the first book a lot but found that it seemed to lose some momentum - this one didn't!

Such a reprieve to find a strong heroine that doesn't constantly do ridiculously silly things and rely on the hero to get her out of her fixes.

I really enjoy the way Kresley Cole writes dialogue and thoughts as well, believable, witty and funny. It's a nice change to read a romance that doesn't constantly repeat words and/or phrases over and over again until you want to scream if you read it one more time.

I'll definately be reading more of this series!

I really liked this one!!!!!

Yummi vampire!!! ;)

This book is as great as the first one, A HUNGER LIKE NO OTHER, and you take no time at all getting used to the way in which things are being told and with how the story evolves.

The sex is still great, but i couldn't help but feel that it was in some way similar to that in A HUNGER LIKE FIRE, but maybe a little less animalistic... But both had common ground, like pinning her hands above her head and doing first oral sex and some pages ahead having it going.

But besides it -or maybe because of it XDDD - the book is GREAT!!!! ;)

Have the third one pre ordered!!! ;)

There's this very bizarre thing that happens when I read Kresley Cole books - while I'm reading them, I've very aware of the flaws, but at the same time, I'm so totally transported by the emotional depth of the characters and the (not to be crass) amazing sex scenes, that by the time I've finished a book, I'm totally happy with it. Absolutely the case with this book as well.

Okay, the flaws: some plotting problems; deux ex machina - and the end dragged on a bit, too; a few times the description is confusing and I had to read a section twice or more to make sense of the action; every so often, the heroine, Kaderin, (and frankly, most of the female characters) grates on the nerves; and, Kaderin's emotional change is a little too drastic - toward the end of the novel she often seemed like a different person entirely.

HOWEVER, despite all this, I really really really liked the book! Cole really works to develop emotional conflict that seems real and sustainable (the "reason why I can never love you" explanation doesn't feel petty). And the hero? Seriously. I REALLY like Cole's heroes. I honestly don't know how to describe this one - I mean, on one hand, he's a typical alpha-type male. But he actually has depth and a little insecurity at the same time, so while you get all the good alpha-vibe, he never steps over the line into slightly (or not so slightly) creepy-land.

Of course, it may help that I just read a whole slew of really awful books and I had no hopes for this one. Surprise pleasure always accounts for higher reviews. :) But I really would recommend this book to someone who likes a lot of action, butt-kicking females, is willing to be a little generous while reading and not overly critical, and wants some really really steamy passion which is nicely developed with respect to the characters' growing relationship.

Sebastian Wroth, a reluctant and lonely vampire, gets blooded by Kaderin the Coldhearted, a Valkyre warrior and discovers that she is his Bride much to her displeasure. In the first chapter Kresley Cole gets the action started fast, which is her trademark , no waiting for three chapters to be drawn into her story. From chapter one the action is on and let the games begin - literally with he Hie, a supernatural steroid version of the Amazing Race. There are sharks, sirens, minefields, a Columbian drug lord Kaderin needs to seduce and nympho nymphs hitting on the hunky Sebastian.

Kaderin and Sebastian are both damaged, complicated but amazing characters . Can they overcome all this and win The Hie? Oh and did I mention Bowen, the ruthless Lykae we first meet in A Hunger Like No Other? He may have the most to win in the competition and he is determined to do just that no matter what or who gets in his way.

Kresley Cole has created this amazing world with complicated , interesting characters combined with all the humor! She's the funniest author out there and you will find yourself laughing out loud. Don't miss the previous two stories in this series, The Warlord Wants Forever in the anthology Playing Easy to Get and A Hunger Like No Other.

You won't be able to put it down and you won't want it to end.

I liked this one. It's a good follow-up to "A Hunger Like no Other". The hero in this one is especially endearing. The lady is very bitter and world-weary for a romance novel heroine, but this is paranoramal and they usually get away with the dark brooding thing if it's well done and this one is. I'd recommend it for lovers of the genre...and even for newbies, with the warning that although there is humor, this is NOT a light-hearted read. Enjoy. I can't wait for Bowen's story!

This was one fun read.

Sebastian is a Vampire, who does not want to be a vampire.
Kaderin is a Valkyrie, who has lost her emotions
Valkyries and Vampires are mortal enemies.
The Contest: The HIE
The Prize: The ability to change time.

I know I am sounding like an Ad, but that is the best way I could give a teaser and summary for this novel without giving too much away. The novel has to be read in order to discover the journey that Sebastien and Kaderin undertake to discover love and what they really want. Kaderin has scars that need healing because she saw her family destroyed and lost all emotion. Sebastian was turned unwillingly and is sick of the loneliness and self-hate for centuries. The HIE(the Amazing Race/National Treasure like) contest offers a prize that both want to change their lives. But when faced with the change do they really want to give up what they have achieved? I also loved Kaderin's love for her family and the internal struggle she undergoes is quite poignant.

All in all I loved this 2nd book in the series and look forward to more.

This is the second book in her Dark series I have read. Cole's vivid imagination give us wonderful, rich characters but each have their own flaws and personalities! The action is exciting and very well described. The action between Katja and Sebastion is VERY exciting, VERY well described and..and..you'll have to read it for yourselves! She also has a great cast of characters: valkyrie, werewolf, vampire, goddesses, dragons. Cole captures everything in these novels and keeps things moving along smoothly. She gives the Valkyrie wonderful personalities and quirks and I found that part of the book also interesting. She really rounds out all her characters flaws and all. I also love the way she teases the sex scenes giving us just a bit more each and everytime until the end. Makes for great impact! Looking forward to her next book dealing with the werewolf.

The plot started out fairly innovative through the first encounter of Kaderin & Sebastian. He's a vampire (unbeknownst to her, a forebearer vamp) & she's dispatched to eliminate him. When they meet, they discover that they're destined to mate... she's his 'bride.' Each character is developed with their own dysfunction - contrary to one another. Prejudice presents the primary obstacle (vamps are the lowly of the Lore - immortal species) for Kaderin. Sebastian has to win her over ---- the breadth of the story.

The setting of the story revolves around a kind of paranormal Amazing Race called the High that takes place every 250 years. As Kaderin participates, Sebastian tries to help her win... she denies the help, he pursues her, she rebuts him, he is persistent, yadda yadda yadda. ++Trying not to give spoilers.++ If you like the Amazing Race-type contests, maybe you'll like this story. I expected more like "A Hunger Like No Other" Book 1 which was addicting. Again, the story started off well, but then???

Though I do like Petkoff's audio interpretation of the main characters in general, he doesn't seem to do as well as in the first installment as many new characters are introduced and not as easily distinguishable.

A non-stop action, adventure, paranormal romance novel that will have your heart pumping and your toes curling from the first page to the last. This second installment of The Immortals After Dark Series does not fail to please. The characters are written so well that you may just find yourself falling in love with them, and the story line is so fresh and original you'll be guessing and second-guessing the whole way through. Ms. Cole does a brilliant job crafting this fine tale and takes the time to bring you up to date on some of the favorite characters from A Hunger Like No Other and Playing Easy To Get (although, I am still dying to find out who blooded Murdock--maybe we'll get a sneak peek in the next novel). This is a MUST read for all fans of supernatural erotica and paranormal romance. I cannot wait for the next novel involving Bowen and these wonderful characters in 2007

I really liked Kaderin the Coldhearted. I HATED Sebastian. The author was trying to create two characters who were the exact opposite of each other but she made Sebastian whiny and boring. It was hard to get through this book. I found myself skipping pages to get to the end.

Kaderin the Cold Hearted as a Valkyrie who is haunted by the loss of her two sisters and the reason behind their deaths. She now makes it a policy not to hesitate and to do what she must when faced with evil. So why when she is sent to kill a vampire does she not follow through? The answer is clear. Fate has plans for these natural enemies and it's going to make her life miserable. Sebastian is a Vampire that makes her feel emotions for the first time since the deaths of her sister. But this vampire is not just any vamp...he claims that Kaderin is his bride and he will stop at nothing to make sure she eventually realizes it. This couldn't come at a worse time since Kaderin has a contest that she participates in every year and this year the grand prize is something she can't walk away from. Her future happiness is at stake...er in the balance.

Sebastian Wroth was turned hundreds of years ago by his brother...a brother that he has never forgiven. He awaits death eagerly...or at least he did until Kaderin arrived. How could this pint size bundle of anger and beauty be his bride? It doesn't matter...all that matters is making her admit to the truth that they belong together. She won't come willingly and there are a great many things he doesn't understand about Kaderin...it's a good thing he's patient and determined to not let his future get away from him. Now...if fate will be so kind as to cooperate.

I must admit I love Ms. Cole's writing. No matter the genre historical or paranormal she demonstrates her creative side with the stunning stories she manages to tell. Needless to say "No Rest for the Wicked" is no different. For readers that are looking for something new in the Paranormal/Fantasy genre...look no further. Ms. Cole delivers on all counts. This story never lags and our main characters combined with the numerous secondary characters are highly entertaining. Sebastian and Kaderin are a dynamic pairing and the chemistry that burns between them is unbelievable. What is even better...Ms. Cole never lets that tension weaken. In other words this is a romance that will enthrall, entertain and convince readers Ms. Cole is her for the long run. I am one pleased to realize this.

Kudos to Kresley Cole for this glorious novel!

Kaderin "The Coldhearted," true despiser of all that is Vampire is sent on a mission to kill Sebastian, a tortured vampire who seems to have gained notoriety due to his anonymity amongst the villagers. As fate would have it, Kaderin couldn't deliver the death blow...and Sebastian discovered that she is his "Bride" (which is like a Vampire's mate).

Kaderin is ruthless, hard-edged and unyielding...everything Sebastian is not used to in a female. Regardless, she seems to fit him perfectly, as she is tougher than all the ladies he'd been with (who before his "Turning," saw him as a hulking, awkward man). The plot thickens when Kaderin enters into the Underworld's version of the "Amazing Race." Sebastian avidly chases after her and enters into the competition, all the while wondering why she's so passionate-no, hell-bent- on winning the competition. Somewhere in between their constant bickering, they both realize that they're each other's half and then something momentous happens to them (The Big Reveal) to test their dedication to each other.

Invariably, they are faced with trials on all sides from the Valkyries, vampires, Werewolves, and other tribulations...but in the end, as it is with most romance novels, Love conquers all.

I am not a person particularly interested in this genre of book, but after the first chapter, I literally could not put this book down. It is one of the most creatively written books I have ever read...so I hurried and ordered the rest of Cole's "Dark Series" and I can honestly say that they just kept getting better and better! If you want to escape into a world that sizzles...a world that is so foreign from the reality of what you have read thus far in your life, Cole is the girl for you. Her characters and story lines are believable and make sense in the scheme of things and all the pieces and puzzles she weaves as her stories continue to unfold will make you laugh, cry, and yes ladies, maybe swoon a little. It doesn't hurt that her manly werewolves and vampires are the most gorgeous beasts that you would ever want to meet and her women are stong enough to handle all that they throw at them. Pick one up. Read it. Unbelievably entertaining and extremely well written. A definite "must read."

This book was enjoyable but not as much as the first one. I wasn't crazy about the character of Kaderin, I thought she was rude and I got tired of her being so mean to this sweet man. If I was him I would have told her to take a hike, but of course he didn't. The character development in this book wasn't the greatest. I was more interested in the secondary characters like Regin and Bowen. I'm looking forward to Bowen's book.

Kresley Cole has done it again with her book. No Rest For The Wicked brings two characters together in a contest. I had high hopes and expectations for this book, but I was a little disappointed. It seemed like the hero and heroine spent most of the book just running around from place to place.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but it seemed like their relationship is squeezed in between all of their travels. The end result, for me at least was that their whole relationship came off as seeming rushed and unrealistic, as well as a little awkward.

It was kind of disappointing, because Kresley Cole is an author who generally does the whole "fated mate" thing really well, and if she had fleshed out the characters and especially their interactions a little more, it could have turned out much better.

Still, this book might be worth buying if only to see the characters from the previous books, and it does lay out some subplots for future books. All of the other books in her Immortals After Dark series are really good, so this book might at least be worth reading as a "link" book.

Adventurous, hot, sexy, passionate, and wicked are the words I would used to describe this book. The beautifull and dangerous world of the Lore that Kresley Cole creates in these books is a world that sucks you in and keeps you wanting more. A book that stands on its own and is an enjoyable dangerous adventure that the two main characters Kaderin and Sabastian take as they enter the Tailsman Hie. Sabastian is a strong, somewhat pained vampire you want to offer your self up to and have him take you completely and Kaderin is a beautifull strong but cold hearted Vakerie who starts to feel for this sexy vampire who is her mortal enemy. The ride it takes you on is well worth it and has one of the hottest vampire sex scenes I have ever read. I love the characters and the story just keeps pushing on from one high point to another.

I have to say that this is my favorite paranormal romance so far. I even rate this one above Kenyon's series. Sebastien is a sympathetic character who smolders on every page. Kaderin is also a highly sympathetic character but one of the best butt-kicking female characters that I've read in a long time. Sebastien is unrelenting in his quest to claim Kaderin as his and determined to break down her centuries old defenses. The heat simply radiates off the page everytime these two interact and the action sequences are just as riveting. This ones going to be on my bookshelf for a very long time.

I have eagerly awaited Kresley Cole's 2nd book in the Immortals After Dark series and I have to say I was not disappointed! Non stop action and the sexual tension between Kaderin and Sebastian... WOOH... does someone have a fan? Don't forget to read the excerpt at the end of the book for the 3rd book in the series... it sounds fantastic!

Cole has a fantastic imagination and the ability to stretch the sexual tension out on a wire. She is one of the best writers to come out in a while - paranormal or historical. This series (IDS series)is rich with wonderful characters whose stories I can't wait to read. Especially if they live up to these first installments. Definately FIVE STARS!!!

I have to say I was really looking forward to reading this book. I thought it would be much like 'A Hunger Like No Other', which I loved.

I'm not saying it was terrible, but I wouldn't read again. This book is not a keeper, I kept thinking all the way through, it's bound to get better cause I know it will be a happy ending, but the middle was boring, I almost skipped the middle and just read the end.

I hope the next one is better.

I loved this book! it was just as exciting as the first one. Kresley Cole is now added to my list of must read authors. I am very much looking forward to the next book but I can't find any info on it anywhere, does anyone know where they have more info on it? This is a book i would recomend to anyone.

I was always just into the usual vampire fantasy romance novels. Then I read a few of the pages of the first book in this series on the store. I didn't want it to stop so I knew that I had to get this book series. It has been awesome and I can hardly wait till Christmas so that I can get the rest.

I USUALLY DO NOT LIKE SI-FI, AND WILL AVOID READIING EVEN MY FAVORATE AUTHORS. I STARTED READING THIS BOOK AND BECAME CAPTIVATED AND COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. SEB AND KADERIN HAD THE ROMANCE WITH JUST ENOUGH FICTION TO BE INTERESTING BUT NOT DISTRACTING OR OVERWHELMING. THOUGH I READ THE BOOKS OUT OF SEQUENCE, I WAS ENTHRALLED.

Amazing! I really didn't like the first book, but this one is so smart and has really great characters. The plot is impeccable. Granted the ending is a little mushy, but hey, we are reading romance! ;) A very satisfying read and a satisfying ending. I was wowed through the whole book. I love these two!

Liked the heroine, strong willed and ready for action at all times. On the other hand, the vampire hero is quite whiney, lost and weak. I started the series with this book and then found out there is a previous installment. Recommendation - start with the first book for sure. All in all, the series is great, but don't judge only based on this book.

The entire Immortals After Dark series is worth reading, but this one is my favorite. Ms. Cole perfectly mixes imagination, romance, liberal doses of humor and interesting, compelling characters. I haven't laughed so hard in years. Her portrayal of strong women is perfect. I love this author!!

I see that many people who have read this book gave rave reviews but, I could not find one redeeming quality. Sebastian and Kaderin are brought together romantically before the story had a chance to build any anticipation and then the story became so predictable I completely lost interest. It read like so many cheap novels. What a major disappointment!
