This is unabridged which I appreciate and didn't see noted before I purchased it. Whether you like classics or not, this a great tale of intrigue and adventure. I have laughed out loud a few times. A good laugh is always good for the soul.

(Haven't yet read this book yet) I am very pleased with the quality of the Reader's Digest World's Best Reading series. All the books are very nicely printed and bound and I plan to purchase many more of the series.

Let me be clear that this review refers only to the Penguin Deluxe edition, not the story itself or Pevar's translation, both of which are excellent.

The edition is very disappointing. First, it credits an illustrator, which made me think it was, well, illustrated. It isn't. I can only assume that refers to the cover. Meh.

Also, the notes. While they are very good, they aren't hyperlinked. You need to check the number, scroll to the end of the ebook....its a pain. How hard are links? Sorry, but you'll just have to try harder to get me to shill out 13 bucks for a book available for free.
The Meursault Investigation :: Albert (2008) published by Paw Prints 2008-07-10 [Library Binding] :: The Plague :: Blood Bound (A Gallows Novel Book 1) :: Twenty Years After (Oxford World's Classics)

The movies do not do this book justice. Fall into the world of The Three Musketeers and travel back in time. You'll fall in love, discover affairs, and maybe even make a lifelong friend, or two, or three.

If you are not used to reading this type of literature it may take you a few pages to get used to the style. Push through! You will be able to read it fluently in a few pages. This is a fantastic story written by an amazing author.

I did find the book interesting from an historic and classical point of view. Never seemed to reach the point or end for that matter. Maybe it should have been named the 4- Musketeers. There were a lot of loose ends.

Fighting, romance, broken hearts, drunken debauchery, patriotism, un-breakable friendship, good guys, bad guys, and more. One of the best stories ever written. None of the movies are as good as the book!

I so enjoy most of the old classic novelists, like Andre Dumas and Jules Verne. The Musketeers is just an exciting and well written story about possible history, love, intrigue and adventure. Sure appeals to me.

I was going to read 'The Man in the Iron Mask' when I saw reviews that said this is so much better. I don't know if it is better, but I will say that this was a very enjoyable book. The Three Musketeers are so well known from movies so it was good to read how they got together and good descriptions of them all. I'm glad I followed the other reviewers' advise.

One of the many classics I have read, I love getting into the minds of writers from 'back in the day'. The way they use words to paint ideas and hold conversations is astounding. And for being a free download, and I happy with how accurate it is from physical book to digital.

It's obviously dated....I prefer the movies. The main things that ruined it for me:
1) treatment of female characters, including a rape scene that is completely brushed over
2) slow and boring
Still glad I read it so now I know, but I don't think I was really missing anything by just watching the updated movies.

I read the unabridged of the Count of Monte Cristo and then went right into this. It was too much, I had to stop. I will read it later but it was too much after that other huge one. Maybe I should have bought the abridged copy.

After reading many of the Russian books translated by Pevear (and Volokhonsky), I thought I would give the Musketeers a try. I was not disappointed. I enjoyed this book as much any book I've ever read. Highly recomended by (just) an avid reader

D'Artgnan was portrayed as a morally upstanding gentleman in the movies, but in this book, he swindles money, lusts after married women, and helps cover up affairs. I was disappointed, bit I do not regret reading this classic.
