I love this series, but have to say this was the best. It gave a little more insight to Nassir. Still I want to know about him. Who can, Illium, and Dimitri was all there at their best. I cannot wait for the next installment!

I must admit I delayed reading because I knew it would be great and it's like saving a best piece of cake. In the time of holding off I re-read the series at least three times, minimum.
But now I have read it and wow, Nalini Singh is a master at her craft.
I have already begun to reread the series, it's got into my blood and I just can't do without this story.
I pray there will be more to come.
I highly recommend this series to all from young adult to old, you will not be disappointed.
A truely great book and series.

The magic of this world continues with all the characters you have come to love. This book just adds to the richness of the world Nalini has created and loose none of the freshness or surprises you want.

I gave one of these books in the series five stars and rarely give those out. While this story was just ok, Elena and Whats-his-name had too many sexual situations going on. There were so many, it was becoming tiresome.
Having skipped over several pages of this unnecessary nonsense, I felt cheated out of more meat from the story by receiving only half of a book.
Blech.

The Guild Hunter books are some of my favorites. I even like them better than the Psy/Changeling series.. That sad, I don't know what in Hades happened here. The premise of the Cascade was fascinating, I was really hoping for more about that. (I mean, you have an apocalyptic event exactly three immortals remember and the foremost scholar of the *species* had to struggle to find any record--which really, should be like finding accurate records of the Great Flood outside of Scripture-- wouldn't you expect more than a weakened nor'easter?)

The primary antagonist seemed utterly out of character. She swung from focusing on otherworldly matters to suddenly wanting to rule the world. It's no secret she wanted to be and was worshipped as a goddess in her territory. Then suddenly, she's taking tactical advice from Frank Sinatra? ["If you can 'make it' there/you'll make it anywhere, it's up to you, New York...]

The secondary antagonist would've given us a stronger story, IMO. Michaela, when she isn't being used a trope, is a fascinating character. But, no. We got a motivation-180 from the archangel of China instead.

I have praised Singh's worldbuilding in the past. Since this series is PR, not UF, I was willing to let things slide a bit. However, letting things slide showed gaping plotholes here.

Why doesn't Hannah rate a Guard? She needs one more than Elena, but despite having equal social status (both of their mates are Cadre, preside over large territories, are both official Consorts to an Archangel. But Elena, hunter-born, trained by several of the Seven, and who brings her own combat abilities and initiative to the table (along with a small army of Hunters more than willing to fight alongside her), has a Guard, while gentle, artistic Hannah does not.

Nice to know women who can't fight don't rate protection, or that Elena didn't remark on it, even in bewildered newbie fashion. /sarc

Let's see in this series, Beijing has been nuked--*by an archangel's brain*. There's been a serious plague, a superhuman war, the rising of what amounts to Atlantis or Lemuria ,livng fallout from a blood angel, civil war in India between celestial twins. There are zombie like creatures. There are brief, tantalizing mentions of non-Guild groups dedicated to humans and once-humans. There's the struggle of immortality vs. mortality and love and outliving those you love.

So what do we get? A deux ex machina ending, ALL of that background ignored, and characters, like Elena's father, Aohdan, and Illium, all shoe-horned to fit in the plot and then cheated of their emotional payoff.

Too much happens off-screen: notably, the transformation of the paralyzed Guild tech expert into a vampire. When that happen? Did i miss a novella or anthology somewhere? (Serious question, here)

And the Legion, which has never been mentioned by Jessamyn, or even hinted by *anyone* even as a song or myth, during the series. Even the most ancient Archangels don't ponder a wisp of a memory. This like forgetting Aurthurian legend or Holger the Dane.

The tl'dr version:

Coming on the heels of Archangel's Storm, I'm very disappointed. I feel dynamic, vibrant characters were altered to support a weak plot. Easy-outs were taken instead of Singh's usually masterful manipulation of dramatic tension. Common sense appeared to drop for no reason. PR isn't UF, but this could have been so, so much more. I think I'm done with GH. I hate seeing good characters altered to suit the plot (and yes, I *can* tell the difference between character development and plastic surgery for Plot purposes: Sorrow grew. Venom grew. Elena's sisters grew. The others...it's more like they changed outfits and declared that progress) I hate seeing the promise of good imaginary worlds wither into husks.

In conclusin:
I feel cheated. This wasn't a GH book. This was, "See how awesome Elena and Raphael are!" I will never pre-order a Singh book. Better to wait than find you've lost faith in an author AND paid for 'privilege'.

I liked the book, but it was weaker than the previous ones in the series. It started with a bang, but then continued with a couple of filler plots that slowed it without going anywhere. It got better towards the end and finished off tolerably well.

I am a Guild Hunter fan but I was really disappointed with this latest addition. I loved the way Singh developed Aodhan and Jeffery in this book, but I absolutely hated Elena, Raphael, Lijuan and the Legion. Elena's guard gathering and consort adaption was just unbelievable. It didn't add to the story especially since Hannah doesn't even have a guard, so what makes Elena so special. Elena's character was too emotional and weak. I understand Jeffrey's point-of-view about why he sees it necessary to protect his daughters; therefore, I was shocked that Elena could not sympathize with him. I was actually expecting Michaela to have a larger role especially since she was contaminated by Uram. I think Singh was so eager to add the Legion to the story that she failed to expand on her original characters. I am not giving up on this series yet, but I hope Singh will tie everything together in her upcoming Guild Hunter books.

Story line was not as compelling as previous novels, but fans should still read the continuing story of Raphael and Elaena. New characters were added to allow the series to continue. Looking forward to the next novel.

I was soo excited to read this book, I even pre-ordered it months ahead of time based off of my love for all the other books in the series and the new developments she never ceased to amaze me with. This book, however, fell short. It kept harping on one plot line and repeating in a multitude of ways of how Elena kept reassuring herself that this time she KNEW her/his love was true and right, yadda yadda. The bright spots were the revelation of her father's 'hatred' for her chosen profession and introducing a rekindling of a relationship with her remaining sisters. The dreams also gave it a boost. but overall, nothing new with the antagonists (so one-dimensional) and how they automatically soved the mystery of who was infecting the vampires. There wasn't a climax, it was all plateau and didn't leave anywhere for the story to go. It seems rushed and disjointed, not allowing the reader to try to figure out the mystery, just handing them the answers without the intrigue. I couldn't get vested in any of the characters because they were never in any actual danger. My least favorite book so far in the series.

Convoluted story whose main goal seems to be to lose the reader. There are vampires that are not like any vampire I've ever read about before, angels unlike any I've ever hear of, and immortals who aren't immortal. The writer spends too much time writing about disjointed details rather than developing any type of a plot.

I've read all the archangel books and have enjoyed them, even the novellas. I love Elena and Raphael. What I don't like is the strange form of writing in metaphors that Ms S Singh adopts when she writes their story. It gets very annoying after a while.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series (Angel's Blood). I've really enjoyed the other installments, especially those featuring Elena and Raphael. This book concentrates again on Elena and Raphael. The "Cascade" has begun and angels are falling from the sky and vampires are dying from illness. Elena and Raphael try to sort out why this is just happening in New York and, if someone is going up against them, who could be doing this.

The good: Similar to previous books, it is very fast-paced with a lot of action. The relationship between Elena and Raphael is center stage and we can see small bits of development (such as when Elena thinks about how her actions will be perceived as she is now the "Consort"). I loved the interactions between Elena and Raphael ---- especially when she is so snarky and makes Raphael laugh. We see more of her interaction with her hunter-born sister Eve and learned more about Elena's dad and why he hates the hunter-born. Elena (and us) got to learn more about some of the Seven (Aodhan, Bluebell and Nassir). And we got to see a tiny bit more of the South American ArchAngel (can't remember his name) and his consort Hannah.

Both Good and Bad: There is a LOT going on in this book. Elena hunts a vampire, she hunts a hunter, she helps her sister Eve and confronts her dad, Elena and Raphael attend a ball, they try to determine why vampires are dying, they prepare for war. This keeps the action hopping. However, I think that this is the reason why some of the plot lines felt a little "thin" or rushed and led to some of my frustrations below. I think this is also why I'm left confused on several plot points (why did the grey angels come,

The frustrations: We had brief mention of the couples of the other books (Galen, Dimitri and Jason) but no real interaction with these couples. I wish we had seen more of each of them. Several plot lines seemed to appear just to provoke a reaction in Elena but then drop out of sight (Tasha, Michaela). However, I think the most frustrating part for me was the amount of space taken up by Elena's fears --- of what happened with Slater and her sisters, her mom's suicide, her abandonment by her father, her fear of losing Raphael, etc. I expected more progress on these issues and it felt very much a "re-tread" from previous books. It is a romance novel, so I don't mind the space taken up by the steamy sex scenes. But the constant reminder of Elena's backstory, her new fears for Raphael and her concerns about whether she is destroying him got a little old. I wish that space had been used to see more interaction of Raphael and/or Elena with people we know (even with people like Caliane or Lijuan). I'm also getting a little tired of how Lijuan keeps popping back up. Maybe other archangels are the only ones who can threaten Raphael... but I really want some new threats to Raphael and New York.

I do really like this series. I've followed this author's Psy-Changeling series as well and have been very impressed with that world-building and where she took it. I'm hoping that the next installment of the Guild Hunter series will be less about Elena's fears and more about the Cascade, Elena's growth, etc.

Guild Hunter novels are always so intense they cause me to lose sleep and stress out about a happy ending. This series, folks, is urban fantasy at its finest. Throughout the story, I couldn't get enough of Elena and Raphael and Illium, but I was also thrilled to get to know a few of the other members of The Seven better. Naasir and Aodhan both have significantly larger parts in this book than in any of the previous ones and their character development is superb. I'm already speculating about the relationship between illium and Aodhan, and what the heck is Naasir anyway? It was fab getting to see Honor and Dmitri again (and especially to hear her commentary on his, ah, skills), as well as newly-in-love spymaster Jason.

The action in this book is beyond intense and the last 30 pages just about killed me, my heart was racing so fast the entire time. Ms. Singh really amped up the danger level for ALL the characters in this one and held off on revealing the big development until right at the end. It made me crazy and jittery and glued to the pages! The story also wrapped up nicely after the nearly-traumatic ending, so there's enough time to come down from the ledge and take a safe breath again, get our proverbial feet under us before we have to wait another many months for the next installment. I want to avoid spoilers as much as possible but I will say this...

No matter what it feels like while reading the final chapter of this book, take comfort in knowing that it does NOT have a cliffhanger ending and it is totally worth the ride! I'm both glad it's over and impatiently awaiting the next chapter in this scintillating and addicting universe! Long live the Guild Hunter series!! This series, and Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling world, might as well be the raison d'etre for the urban fantasy genre!

I cannot believe that this series has already reached a dead end. That is part of my problem with Singh's books since she writes the same book over and over. I am through with the series and the author. Boring book!

I really forced myself to finish this book, I did so out of respect for the great Nalini Singh. The last I will read of this series though. I felt no empathy with the characters, the so called hot scenes were kind of repelling. Elena and Raphael are boring as was the plot. The evil character was obvious, there was no build-up and suspense. I found myself skipping whole pages. The best books were about the lesser characters, Dimitri and Sara.

Raphael, in case you’re getting ideas—I won’t be this civilized if you decide you need a concubine. In fact, it’s a good bet I’ll turn homicidal.

He didn’t look up from his conversation with Astaad as he said, A pity, in that cool “Archangel” tone of his. I will now have to ask the pilot to empty the hold of my chosen females.

We’re going to have to talk about this new sense of humor of yours.

This would have had to be one of the funniest conversations between Raphael and Elena. I had tears running down my cheeks when I had read this. It just proves what a strong relationship the two of them have.

I love reading Nalini’s books, they just keep getting better and better.

This book would have to be my favourite so far. There was so much going on that it had me on edge the whole way through.

Some of the things that I really enjoyed:
-The changes happening to Raphael (The Legion) OMG!!!
-More background history for Aodhan (Sparkle) and Illium (Bluebell).
-The little crush Izak has on Elena.
-Interesting news about Vivek.
-We meet a new vampire Naasir, (what the heck is he ?)

Thanks Nalini for making another fantastic story for us to enjoy xx

Archangel's Legion starts out as a typical day in New York City until chaos begins when Angels start falling from the sky. Then Vampires start dying from a disease they should be immune to. Guild Hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael know they must get to the bottom of this as fast as possible to save their city--all while appearing like their forces haven't been weakened. Many of the Angels were severely damaged and it could take months for them to heal. Guild Hunters and Raphael's Seven join forces to find out who the ominous force is behind the devastation that is threatening their city. Over the course of the story, secrets are revealed, bonds are tested, love is strengthened, and alliances are formed. With war on the horizon, will they be able to save their city and survive the dark, powerful, and relentless force that wants ultimate power?

"We fall, we fall together."

Nalini Singh's writing is like fine wine. It just gets better with age. This series revolves around Raphael and Elena, who are one of my favorite couples in this genre. And the majority of this story focuses on the already prominent relationship between them. There is something so incredibly heady and primal about their relationship. They have an unbreakable bond that continues to strengthen with each installment. This is a solid couple that is 100% in love with one another and will sacrifice themselves for the other. I don't think either one could or willingly survive without the other. Elena helps bring out Raphael's human side, while Raphael influences Elena to become a stronger Angel and Consort. I really enjoyed seeing Elena come into her own as the consort in this installment. She really steps up as the compassionate and strong consort the angels can look up to and find solace. But these two are still trying to find their footing with one another. They both have strong personalities that tend to clash and, while they do bring out the best in each other, they can also bring out the worse.

Elena is a warrior hunter used to taking care of herself. She's fiercely stubborn and hates showing her vulnerabilities. She continues to struggle with the nightmares from her past and issues with her father. Relying on Raphael proves to be a challenge. But she is coming to emotional terms that she is still considered a baby angel in their world, even though she is still a bad ass hunter, and learns to lean more on Raphael for strength and support. And, while Raphael is her equal in many ways, he's still the powerful, almost omnipotent, Archangel that has lived many lifetimes. It's a challenge for him to understand Elena's human side that has a soft heart for all species. But every day he grows and changes as he learns more about humanity from Elena. Elena might possibly be his weakness, but this weakness works in his favor.

We are shown in this installment how different they are personality-wise as they grapple with compromise and crossing lines on certain things. They grow frustrated and angry with one another at times, which made for some molten hot angry sex scenes that were raw and passionate. But, when they made love, it was sensual and lovely. Raphael and Elena continue to leave me breathless with their achingly beautiful words, sensual touches and kisses, loyalty, and shining love they have for one another. But no matter how often they might not see eye to eye on certain matters, they always find a way to make it work as they learn from one another. They are the perfect balance that makes each other whole.

My favorite secondary characters include Raphael's Seven: Dmitri, Aodhan, Galen, Illium, Jason, Naasir, and Venom. They are all incredibly intriguing with their dark secrets. They are powerful, unique, beautifully sexy, and always loyal to their sire, Raphael. I was stoked to get plenty of page time with my favorite warrior, Illium. I love that blue angel Elena calls Bluebell. My new favorite angel is Aodhan. There is one scene in particular that had my heart in my throat between Aodhan and Illium. I'm always mystified by these magnificent warriors Singh has created. We've already gotten Dimitri and Jason's stories. I really hope we get the other five of the Seven.

Archangel's Legion was an emotionally charged and intensely brilliant story that had me staying up late devouring it. It's full of gripping action, suspense, mystery, intrigue, romance, wickedly sexy angels and vampires, kick ass hunters, and the world building is extremely well-developed. Nalini Singh is a master storyteller when it comes to spinning captivating stories with uniquely flawed and vibrant characters. The writing is rich in description and eloquent. I love the little twist at the end of this story that has me curious to see where Singh is taking that little piece of the storyline. Archangel's Legion has easily reached the top of my list as one of the best paranormal romances I've read this year. I'm a total fan-girl when it comes to the Guild Hunter series and can't recommend it enough. Though I do recommend starting with book one, Angel's Blood. You won't be disappointed.

After a two-book departure from featuring the primary couple of the Guild Hunter series, Nalini Singh brings back one of my all-time favorite pairs, Raphael and Elena, front and center. Archangel's Legion opens with a significant and unexplained event (the Falling) that nearly cripples Raphael's Tower stronghold in Manhattan. Determined to make a show of strength, Elena continues her work as a Guild Hunter, making some very public appearances to show the world that Raphael and his territory are business as usual. She partners with Guild buddy Random to find a missing Hunter - one presumed to be close to the edge and possible going rogue. Along the way, they discover a mysterious illness that is killing vampires - something thought impossible.

As we discovered in earlier books, the world is entering a time called the Cascade. Ms. Singh writes of the Cascade that it is a confluence of time and certain critical events that lead to a surge of power in the Cadre. No one, even the Archangels, know what will happen, only that it will most likely lead to war between the Archangels and a dramatic shift in world power. It is this unknown that leaves Raphael and his Seven unsure if the horrible events happening within his territory are events of the Cascade or deliberate attacks made by Archangels with new found power.

One thing I adore and admire about Ms. Singh's writing is that everything has a purpose and plan. The book begins with three mysterious things: The Falling, the diseased vampire, and a missing Hunter, plus a few other actions/events tossed in. It feels like so much; however Ms. Singh is a fantastic storyteller, and no event is random. I enjoy looking for the connections and trying to piece together the puzzle as I read. Somehow all the events will tie into one another, and it's always one heck of a journey.

I love that this book is back to Raphael and Elena, and while crazy events are happening all around them, their love and relationship are the focus of the story. Although the pair are still in their honeymoon phase of sorts, this time around they have some bumps to smooth over. Elena questions herself and her relationship with Raphael. She fears he will change her and worse, that she makes him weak. She struggles with her past issues and her relationship with her father. Her internal struggles spill over into her relationship with Raphael, and how the pair deal with everything is so real and wonderful. Their emotional journey is fabulously written: poignant, touching, and fulfilling (plus angry angel sex!). Raphael and Elena make a great team and couple. I absolutely love their back and forth; how they communicate, live, fight, and love. They respect and care for one another so deeply and thoroughly; it fills my heart and mind with joy when reading this pair.

One particularly poignant moment comes when the pair argue over using Ransom. Elena wants to remain loyal to her friends and Raphael will use a "mere mortal" so that he can get answers. This scene is incredible and very well written. I admire that they fight this out and end up better for it. It takes a special kind of writer to successfully tell the tale of the same couple from book to book, and Ms. Singh is one such author.

It was great to see Elena back on the ground as a Hunter for the Guild. This is where the series started, and I feel shines most brightly. Elena is a strong woman who will not be caged. Being a Hunter is who she is, and watching her perform her born-abilities is a treat. This is where she is most confident, and this time around, it helps counterbalance some of the frustrations of being an angel and the Archangel's Consort. It also allows us to witness Elena among her mortal friends and the ramifications of what that means to her now that she is immortal.

Elena's history: the brutal murders of her sisters, her mom's suicide, and her father's issues with hunters, is in the forefront of Archangel's Legion. Not only are the nightmares still haunting Elena and impacting her life, but now it seems her father is going to make the same mistakes over again with Elena's half-sister, Eve. Rediscovering her past and getting to the very nature of the events is cathartic and important in understanding what drives both Elena and her father.

Personal growth isn't limited to Elena during the story. Raphael must also adapt and change with his mate and because of the Cascade. As the Archangels each evolve due to the Cascade, Raphael is also impacted. He struggles with the allure of heady new powers, while looking to his mother and (dead) father's own personal journey for guidance on what to expect. He must decide how he will come to terms with the fact that he is growing into more. How he and Elena deal with this together is extremely moving.

Conflict is imminent, so it is no surprise when one Archangel declares war on Raphael. As the situation builds to a crescendo, I found it impossible to put down the book. The concluding battle was well-written and drawn-out to just the right length. I appreciate that it wasn't all build-up and then over, which can happen in paranormal romances.

Archangel's Legion is full of romance, love, friendship, action and power. The depth of the tale and growth of the characters is sublime. This story has meat, and it's not for the faint-hearted. The emotions are raw and real. They are thrown at the reader with full-force, and I appreciate this. Archangel's Legion is my favorite book thus far in the Guild Hunter series and is certain to be in my Top 10 reads of 2013.

I enjoy Nalini Singh’s writing and world’s she creates. I have to say I’m not falling in love with the Guild Hunter series like I did with her Psy-Changeling. Not sure why!! I am still very much enjoying theis series, but it’s not as die hard must read and own the books as I am with the Psy-Changeling.

Archangel’s Legion is book six in the Guild Hunter series. It returns us to our main and first couple Elena and Raphael. We get to see how their relationship is developing and the changes that are happening physically, emotionally, and in the world.

Elena is young, very young for an Angel and the first that the Angels know of that is a Made Angel. She is Consort to Raphael and a Guild Hunter. We go a little deeper into her psyche and the trauma that her father Jeffery instilled in her and get see how this affects her. We also see her taking on more responsibility - that many did not think or feel she would take on yet. She learns new things about being a Consort and starts to realizing that her life is just as dangers, if not more now, then it every was. Last she is coming to understand her place next to Raphael and in the world. Their is still much more for both of them to learn.

As for Raphael he undergoes very few changes in this installment.

We get to revisit with Raphael’s Seven and learn more about them, especially Aodhan. I really liked the inside look into Aodhan and can’t wait for his story. Archangel’s Legion had a nice mix of old and new characters. Their is lots of action, adventure, new alliances made, and a war coming. Things are changing and some big surprises are introduced to the reader, especially at the end.

The only thing that I didn’t care for was all the sex. I don’t mind reading about sex in romance books, but I felt it was too much. Almost every chapter had Elena and Raphael getting it on or ending with them in bed.

Archangel’s Legion was a satisfying read. It tackles Elena and Raphael’s greatest fears and shows how the characters are developing. The pace is quick, the action is relentless, and it prepares us for change in the world.

5 Stars... A war is imminent as the disturbing signs of death and destruction begin to mount... Raphael and Elena battle against time to ready their city for the presence of the "Goddess of Death" and her bid to gain power and rule the world... Encapsulated within this larger storyline is the ever developing connection between Elena and Raphael as both sort through their devastating pasts and embrace the full potential of their union... Nalini Singh seemed to zero in on the interconnection of her characters and the emotional bridges that span between them which added depth and meaning to the overall storyline... Powerful, raw, honest, and intense are just a few words I would use to describe this read:)

Archangel’s Legion hits the ground running in a stunning show of worldbuilding that grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. Nalini Singh is unquestioningly one of the best authors in the genre and her talent for creating unforgettable characters and intelligent plots is on full display in this sixth Guild Hunter novel.

At the heart of Archangel’s Legion are Elena and Raphael, and after two books that were focused on other couples, I’m glad we returned to them. The Archangel of New York and his Guild Hunter consort continue to grow as a couple throughout the story. Their relationship is rock-solid, but that doesn’t mean things are easy for them. They go through their ups and downs as new and even more dangerous challenges face them, testing their strength as a couple. The Cascade is in full effect and all the archangels are developing new powers. Alliances are being formed within the Cadre, which means Raphael and Elena must face a whole new level of terror. For angels are falling out of the sky, vampires are contracting a fatal disease, and Lijuan’s unborn are practically knocking on their door. The dangerous games the Cadre has been playing up until now are being cast aside in favor of all-out warfare, and if Elena, Raphael, and their allies don’t move fast or can’t strike hard enough, their territory will fall and everyone will pay the price. Bad news for our favorite characters, but it is great news for readers, for these developments make the story intricate and interesting. There are no slow moments; every page makes you want to keep moving forward until you reach the end.

Archangel’s Legion contains a number of twists and turns both in terms of the overarching storylines of the series and on a personal level. I won’t spoil what happens, because that would ruin the fun, but suffice it to say this is one of the strongest Guild Hunter installments to date. There’s power and emotion in Ms. Singh’s writing and Guild Hunter fans are in for one heck of a ride.

Archangel’s Legion is the sixth book in the Guild Hunter series, and it’s best if the books are read in order, starting with Angels’ Blood. Every story builds on the last and Archangel’s Legion opens the door for a good half dozen avenues to be explored in future books. I absolutely cannot wait to see where Ms. Singh takes our beloved angels, vampires, and humans next!

Quick & Dirty: Complex, emotional world that delves deeper into Archangel politics.

Opening Sentence: Elena watched the ducks peck at each other in the pond in Central Park and thought about the last time she’d been here.

The Review:

Nalini Singh continues to amaze me with her complex and emotional worlds from Psy/Changeling to Guild Hunter with Archangel’s Legion. I’m a little behind in this series so I’m trying to play catch up. The sixth book in the Guild Hunter series brings us back to Elena and Raphael and in case we have forgotten the love that these two characters have for each other, we are quickly reminded of this wonderful and everlasting love.

The world is going crazy. Angels are falling from the sky. Vampires are getting sick and dying. And Archangels’ are gaining some really interesting powers from the Cascade. An inevitable war is coming to Manhattan.

Power is everything when it comes to Archangels. When it appears that vampires are getting sick and dying from a strange unknown disease, Raphael cannot let the news get out. He doesn’t want his own followers to know. If it gets out then war will come sooner to Manhattan. Raphael knows that Lijuan is his number one enemy but he knows that some other angels are working with her to destroy him. He just needs to unravel who all his enemies are.

Archangel/Angel politics is complicated as Elena is continuing to learn as Raphael’s Consort. She can never appear weak and always act as if nothing bad is happening. Elena is a bit weak as an angel but she’s growing stronger every day. Elena is a bit unconventional but that is one reason why Raphael loves her. Another thing that Elena is learning is how to act as a Consort at parties and secret meetings.

Archangel’s Legion had a lot of stuff going on. I will say as much as I loved this book there were a couple times when I wasn’t quite sure where the story was going. From the synopsis I thought it was just about the vampires dying of a strange disease. Every time it felt like this was over it came back even worse than before. Then there was the strange Ball that was held by Raphael’s mother that just supported how some angels don’t like Elena and her meeting one of Raphael’s past lovers which did give her a bit of an unwarranted complex that she isn’t good enough for him. In the end, I was not expecting the all-out war that the novel ended with.

Unlike the previous novel in this series, Archangel’s Legion only stayed with Elena and Raphael’s third person point of view. There were glimpses into each of Raphael’s Seven. I cannot wait to read more about Illium and Aodhan. Their story left me really wanting to know more. I highly recommend this series for readers who like the darker edge to their stories. The love scenes are intensely erotic.

Overall, this is one series that continues to go strong. I’m so excited that I can pick up more in this series without having to wait too long. I strongly urge anyone to check out this series or this author if they haven’t already.

Notable Scene:

Walking to the edge of the pond, she fought her habit of pretending things didn’t matter when they did, and admitted the truth. “I knew I’d run into one of your lovers sooner or later. I just never expected the first one to be so impressive.”

Raphael thought of the centuries he’d lived growing increasingly remote from the world, the power at his command eating away at the boy he’d once been, and knew Elena didn’t understand the piercing depths of who and what she was to him. Tasha, scholar and warrior, was a friend, but she’d seen the surface of him and been content with that.

In all his existence, Elena alone had torn at that surface, heedless of the risk, until she revealed the man beneath the archangel. And Elena alone had challenged his decisions and his views, forcing him to look at the world in a way he’d never before considered. “There is no comparison,” he said to the only woman he’d ever claimed for his own. “You know me in ways no one else ever has or ever will again.”

FTC Advisory: Jove/Penguin provided me with a copy of Archangel’s Legion. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

I loved the first few books in this series, but the plot repeats and lack of character development are getting to be a problem. The subplot of Elena and her father just circled the same ground as they did in the last book. Please, take that subplot resolve it and move on!

Spoiler..

Also if you have a big battle you have been building to for the last 5 books there needs to be some losses to the people the main characters care about. I know it hurts to loose minor characters we have grown to love, but without death it isn't a war. Also same problem of lack of final resolution.

I absolutely love the cover of this book. It's perfect imagery for The Tower and Elena's character. I have to say up front that I am kicking myself for reading this when I did because I was in a reading slump. I started listening to this book on audio and I just could not get into it for the life of me. Which is crazy! I love this series! And to have another Raphael/Elena book should have had me jumping up and down... but I didn't connect really until the fighting started near the end.

The Cascade is still occurring, increasing powers of those in the Cadre. Lijuan has obtained some freaky new powers and, because she is uber creepy and evil, a supernatural war is brewing. In the midst of the threat, Raphael is evolving. But will his powers help or hinder him in the fighting to come... and will he even get them in time? I loved seeing him and Elena work together to face this threat, and be willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their people.

So I continue to love Aodhan and I cannot wait for his book... but now I have a new favorite character Naasir! The narrator gave him a great accent and I am so excited his book has been published already. I am dying to know exactly what he is, and super stoked to see what kind of heroine Nalini will pair him up with.

Lots of things happen before the fighting two women trying to finagle Raphael away from Elena, family trouble with Elena's dad, Caliane has a ball, tragedy and diversion, and a very fun angelic game of catch. We meet The Legion, an interesting twist and I hope some of these winged creatures develop their own personalities - it will be nice to see them "humanize" and see how alike or different they become. So this book was a great supplement to the series and I am excited to finally get caught up.

Woo hoo! Another book that brings us back to Raphael and Elena. I was seriously stoked about this installment and I am pretty sure I devoured it in two sittings.

The Good:

It’s about Raphael and Elena! More emotional scenes about their devotion to each other as well as their people and more upon more about the world of the Cadre, angels, vampires and Guild Hunters.

Every single book so far has enhanced this amazing world and it’s a testament to Nalini Singh’s talent that I keep craving more!

Of course, the very best part was the growth and flaws in the relationship with Raphael and Elena that make it much more real to the reader.

The Bad:

Honestly, I want more. I want to know more about Raphael and Elena. The fact that he is so old and powerful and the world is on the eve of destruction half the time leads one to want more, demand more, and I don’t know a single reader who wants to wait for the next book!

5 stars!

Elena and her archangel Raphael find their city on the brink of war as angels start falling from the skies and vampires start suffering from a mysterious plague. The worst part is, they don't even know who the real enemy is or where to expect the next attack. On top of this, as if that's not bad enough, the "Cascade" in full effect, and all the other archangels are evolving and developing new powers--all the other archangels but Raphael, it seems, and he has never needed a new power more than now.

I never expected to give this author 5 stars for anything (this has never been my favorite series) but this book blew me away! It makes the whole series worth reading. At the very least, you should read books 1-3 before doing this one.

This book was jam packed with action and it was really entertaining but because some of the developments really surprised me I don't want to give anything else away. The only complaint I have is that this author has always been prone to weird sentence structure and no, that doesn't change in this book and it probably never will (I guess her editors consider it her "style"?). I constantly find myself correcting her as I read, which drives me crazy. It's another reason I never thought I'd give her 5 stars.

archangels-legion-guild-hunter-nalini-singhWith one strange occurrence after another taking place; birds falling from the sky to later be followed by angels, and vampires getting sick, it’s apparent to Raphael that someone is mounting an attack on him and his people. It’s just a matter of who, as Raphael finds it increasingly more difficult to defend against an unknown enemy.

The Cascade has caused an increase of power in the members of the Cadre, each secreting away their new powers as a strategic defense, making forming alliances tenuous at best. But Raphael finds a dark cold power trying to take over him, but he must fight it as it turns him into someone he’s not proud of, and someone that could easily hurt the ones he loves such as his beloved consort.

Also a strange mark is manifesting on Raphael’s face, is this the unset of the disease plaguing the vampires? And, are the whispers he hears in his dreams the same that manifested with his father at the beginning of his madness?

There is no time to think of all these questions once Raphael’s enemy makes themselves know and attacks Manhattan. Raphael must use every resource at his disposal if he and his people have any chance at survival. And, it will take every strategic plan they can muster to survive.

I’ll be the first to admit that I do struggle reading the Guild Hunter series. I love Psy-Changeling and I have just never been able to love Guild Hunter with that same amount of vigor. Don’t get me wrong there have been a few that I absolutely loved: Angels’ Blood and Archangel’s Blade. I have found the others to not quite live up to those two.

This book started out great and I thought it had the potential to rank up with some of my favorites. I loved how Raphael and Elena’s relationship has seemed to have evolved over time. They truly seem to be equals now, unlike past books, where it was obvious Raphael held the reins. Don’t get me wrong, there are still times where Raphael attempts to assert his will, despite Elena’s protests, but she doesn’t give up and makes him see things her way eventually. We see a lot more intimacy between this couple in this book and I really enjoyed that aspect of the story.

“ Of course you may go first. When I am dead.”

We get to see more of Raphael’s Seven in this one, especially the progress Aodhan has been making where interacting with others is concerned. I think it’s only a matter of time before we see his book come to pass!

The fighting to save Manhattan is truly where this book loses me. The writing is still good, but battle scenes always struggle to keep my interest. I found these scenes in this book to be okay, they didn’t lose me completely, but they didn’t really excite me either. I’m just not a battle to the finish kind of girl. But with all that said this was another decent addition to the Guild Hunter series, and one any Nalini Singh fan should check out!

It's no secret that I've become a bit of a Nalini Singh fan girl since I discovered the Guild Hunter series, I'm slowly working my way through her Psy-Changeling books too and really enjoying them but Raphael and Elena will always have a special place in my heart. Because I'm such a huge fan I always have very high expectations when I pick up a new Nalini Singh book and I'm always slightly nervous that I've built the series up so much in my memory that it can't possibly live up to them. Thankfully NS never fails to not just meet but completely surpass my expectations though and with every single book she just makes me love her writing more.

It's been a while since we had a book where Raphael and Elena were the main players and as much as I've enjoyed getting to know some of the other characters in the series I was incredibly excited to go back to my favourites. I adore everything about this couple, the way they have changed and grown together throughout the series has been incredible to watch. They still have their issues but I love that they always put each other first, they are aware of their own insecurities and personal issues, they know each other's triggers and most importantly they are willing to put in the effort needed to make a success of their relationship. They don't always agree with each other but they talk things through and even Raphael has learnt to compromise in certain situations. Elena and Raphael are both so much stronger together than they ever could be apart and their relationship is incredibly swoon worthy. I honestly think I could read 100 different books about them and not get bored!

As if spending time with Raphael and Elena wasn't enough we also get some incredibly poignant moments between Illium and Aodhan, ones that will bring happy tears to your eyes and make you even more desperate to read their stories. I'm also incredibly curious about Naasir after getting to know a bit more about him. All of Raphael's seven have a major part to play in this one along with Elena's fellow Guild Hunters so we get to catch up with a lot of familiar faces - I have no idea how Nalini Singh manages to pack so much into her stories but she does it like an expert. There are some epic fight scenes that are described so well it's almost like watching a movie (boy would I love to see this series on the big screen!) and the action is pretty much non-stop throughout.

I really don't want to say much about the plot because I think you're much better off going in knowing as little as possible to make the most of the experience. What I will say is that Archangel's Legion is a completely and utterly addictive read, it will break your heart, it will make you laugh out loud, you'll be shocked, horrified, angry and upset one minute then ecstatically happy and swooning the next. One thing you won't be able to do is put the book down for a single second so clear your diary before you start reading! This book is a game changer in terms of the series, it opens up so many possibilities that I can't even guess at where Nalini Singh is planning on taking us next but I do know it'll be one hell of an adventure. I think I'd have to say that Archangel's Legion is now my favourite instalment of the series and that's saying something considering how much I've loved the previous books. I honestly can't recommend this series highly enough to paranormal romance and urban fantasy fans, it really is essential reading!

Sixth in the Guild Hunter paranormal romance series and revolving around the world-ruling and terrifying archangels. The couple focus brings us back to Elena Devereaux and the Archangel Raphael who rules New York City and territory encompassing Atlanta.

My Take
Wow, this is disaster upon disaster for the angels and for Elena personally. It's bad enough that angels are dying, but Elena learns some horrible truths about her family. Truths that shed light on Jeffrey's actions.

I always enjoy learning whatever bits of backstory an author chooses to reveal as it provides such an opportunity for filling in motivations while wringing away at my heart. And what happened to Elena's mother, Jeffrey's mother, and Raphael's encounter with his insane mother those thousands of years ago does twist away at my emotions. Reaching adulthood usually brings experience, a combination that changes one's perspective about the past, changes how we interpret and better understand the choices our parents made. A perspective that Elena is coming to with the revelations in Archangel's Legion.

I feel twisted on several of Singh's choices in this: there's the oh-so-contrived confrontation Elena has with Raphael that felt so false, the lame worries Elena has about Raphael's "weakness", then we slip into the halfway zone of that "blemish" which has the potential for being more terrifying than Singh uses, and then we slip into the voices. Yes, Singh touches lightly on this, but she does it so well and ties it into Raphael's past in such a way that I was on tenterhooks for more than half of the story!

Ooh, watch yer manners! Seems the archangels have very careful guidelines on what is allowed or not. A requirement to keep down the bloodbaths.

The distinction Raphael makes between the female archangels who want him and Elena is so sweet and incisive.

Lijuan is sure a piece of work. She regrets that Raphael never respected her as he ought...awwww… Just goes to show that no one is immune, no matter how powerful, from being a nut job!

A good story, even if it feels as if it's missing something—I suspect it's the number of teasers Singh slipped in, and one I want to read again, already!

The Story
It's a plague of events from dying birds to falling angels, a flood of blood, a viral pox—and one that seems to affect Raphael. It's too much, too dangerous for too many, and Elena is terrified for her love, her city, and their people.

The Characters
Elena Devereaux is getting used to those wings. A former Guild Hunter, she went angel in Angels' Blood , 1. Jeffrey is Elena's jerk of a father; Marguerite is her dead mother, horribly tortured by Slater Patalis, a vampire. Beth is her only surviving full sister; Harrison is/was Beth's jerk of a husband. Gwendolyn is Jeffrey's second wife. Amethyst and Eve are Elena's half-sisters, and Eve is hunter-born. We learn the truth about Elizabeth Parker, Jeffrey's mother.

Raphael is the terrifying Archangel who rules New York and a huge area around the city. The one who fell in love with a Hunter and is learning how to laugh. Montgomery is Raphael and Elena's butler. Sivya is an angel in charge of the kitchens.

Raphael's people
The Seven include Jason, Raphael's spymaster who is married to Princess Mahiya ( Archangel's Storm , 5); Dimitri, a vampire and Raphael's second, is with Honor, helping her through her transition ( Archangel's Blade , 4); and, Venom. Naasir is more than simply a vampire, and Isabel is his partner. Aodhan is new to New York, taking Dimitri's place in charge of Tower operations, and appears to be fractured light. Illium is the blue-winged angel who carries Lightning; the Hummingbird is his mother. Nimra is a power within the territory ("Angel's Wolf", 4.5). Izak is described as a big, goofy puppy, only he won't be following Elena around any time soon. Keir is an angel healer from Refuge. Nazarach, Andreas, and Augustus are Raphael's angelic commanders. Janvier is a vampire trusted by Guild Hunters, especially Ashwini. Azar is an advance angel scout.

Caliane is an Ancient who went insane and tried to kill her son, Raphael, before she went into Sleep and took the people of Amanat with her. She doesn't approve of her son's consort ( Archangel's Consort , 3). Nadiel was Raphael's father. Kahla is the fated victim.

Guild Hunters
Sara, the head of the Guild Hunters, is Elena's best friend, and a human married to Deacon, a former Slayer, now a weapons crafter; they have a little girl, Zoe. Slayer is the name of their dog. Darrell Vance is a possible rogue Guild Hunter; Mrs. Flaherty is his worried grandmother. Honey Smith is the woman Vance is involved with, we think. The Slayer is a usually anonymous hunter who hunts down Guild Hunters gone bad. Ransom Winterwolf and Demarco are more Guild Hunters. Vivek Kapur is the handicapped computer tech in the wheelchair, immured under Guild HQ.

Elijah is the Archangel of South America with a new power, and Raphael seeks an alliance. Hannah is his consort. Michaela is an archangel who is with child by Dahariel. Riker is Michaela's pet vampire with a desire to taste Elena almost as deep as Michaela's hate for her. Lijuan is the Archangel of China, a.k.a., the Archangel of Death, who has gone mad, a nightmare born of the rot at the core of her soul, raising an army of the dead. Xi is her second. Titus has gained power over the earth. Astaad dominates the sea and usually indulges his concubines. Mele is one of them, a scholar with an interest in vampiric soldiers and ancient languages, while Favashi can control the winds. Charisemnon is a pedophile in league with Lijuan. Nehan is a ruling Archangel being challenged by her twin, Nivriti. Tasha is a childhood friend with her own designs on Raphael. Avi and Jelena were Tasha's parents, whom Caliane left in charge of watching over Raphael before she went into the Sleep. Jessamy is an angel historian who teaches at the Refuge and is married to Galen, Raphael's weaponsmaster (Angels' Flight: "Angels' Dance", 4.75).

Blood-for-Less is a new company with a unique twist on supplying blood. It's owner, Marcia Blue, is a terrified vampire. Sidney Geisman chose to become a vampire and now is disaffected.

The Primary leads the Legion, a repository of power.

The angels are the makers of vampires and there's a bureaucracy set up to test humans who want to be turned along with a contract of 100 years service to the angel turning them. A very severe contract. The Angel Enclave is where Raphael and Elena have a house outside the city on the opposite side of the Hudson from Manhattan. The Refuge feels as though it's on the other side of the world from New York and is a place where the angels' children are schooled, cared for, and taught. The Cascade is a confluence of time and critical events that have led to a power surge amongst the Cadre, the archangels. And it's not over.

The Cover
The cover is purples from the deep lilac of the night sky, city, and buildings forming the backdrop for the ready Elena standing with her legs apart in her over-the-knee boots, her mini crossbow pointed downward, and her wings spread, the tips tinged in a gorgeous red-violet.

The title is prophetic and a lifesaver with this Archangel's Legion.

Queen of Paranormal Romance, Nalini Singh returns to the Guild Hunter series with Elena and Raphael. The sole reason why I fell in love with this series in the first place was because of this couple. I loved Raphael as a hero because he was this god-like creature whose power is unparalleled in the world he has created. But in the first book, we saw him succumb to a more human emotion that makes him more endearing and real: love.

Raphael undergoes a few changes in this latest installment. When birds and angels begin to drop from the sky for the duration of five horrific minutes, New York is put into a state of panic as they try to find out what happened and deal with the number of deaths this has caused. Elena, with the help of her friends, Ransom, Sara and even Deacon try to find out what it is that has caused what they call The Falling.

The threat becomes more dire when Raphael bears an unidentified mark on his face that is slowly spreading. Could it be linked to the infection that is trolling the city? Furthermore, the all-powerful Raphael is hearing voices in his sleep, a symptom of madness that his father once had as well. Who are the voices he hears and does this mean that the Archangel of New York is swirling into madness?

Elena’s character has always been relatable in this series, but I feel that is amplified more in this book. We’ve learned of her tragic past and how Slater ruined her life and took those of her mother and sisters. But this time, we get more detail about the event and Elena’s reactions to that kind of loss. We also see her relationship with her father and how grief still remains as a heavy blanket over them even years later.

The politics once again come into play. With Lijuan and her army becoming a threat again and Raphael’s mother, Caliane stirring up more trouble when she declares that there will never be easiness between her and Lijuan, tension mounts until the threat of war soon becomes an issue.

What I love about this series is the lush descriptions that paint out the whole scenery in my mind. This world in my mind is so clear and vivid because of Singh’s attention to detail. While not my favorite of Elena and Raphael’s books, ARCHANGEL’S LEGION is a solid installment to the series. It addresses the darkest elements of Elena and Raphael’s most greatest fears and tackles them, making for incredible character development and just a wonderful story.

If you haven’t already read this series, then I highly suggest you do. It still remains as one of my favorites.

Archangel’s Legion brings us another story featuring Elena and Rafael and what a treat it is. I love this series and although I have enjoyed each book, seeing Elena and Rafael together is so much fun. The feelings they have for each are so amazing, they sizzle in every scene they are together.

A storm is coming, something so terrible that it threatens the world. In a matter of minutes birds drop dead from the sky and angels fall soon after, injuring many and killing five. They seem to be fighting an invisible enemy, they have an idea of who it may be but no proof. Lijuan, the Archangel of China is a bit crazy with power and has caused major havoc in the past but is she the one that is causing the chaos?

The Falling, as they have called it is only the beginning, as vampires who are normally immune to disease start dying from a pox. Rafael is beside himself as he tries to protect the city. And yet there is something different about Rafael, a mark that is growing and a power that flows through him. As they try to find out more information they also have other problems to deal with, Jeffrey, her father, is causing problems for her hunter born sister, Rafael's mother is throwing a ball that they do not have time to attend and someone from Rafael's past has surfaced causing Elena to see green.

What an amazing book, I think Archangel's Legion is one of the best in the series as it continues the overall story arc of powerful Archangels and their strong partners. I have loved Elena and Rafael story since the beginning, they have such amazing chemistry that survives anything that is thrown at them. The scenes with them together are amazing as they are always pulled toward each other. Elena is so strong and although plagued with nightmares from her past she is ready and able to fight those that threaten who she protects. Rafael is still the most dangerous Archangel around and demands respect, yet Elena can bring him to his knees, she holds his heart and I love that.

The action starts from the beginning and does not let up until the end. I could have read it into the night but life got in the way. I enjoyed that Ms. Singh not only has us on pins and needles with the current disaster but also keeps on-going story arcs moving forward. I am intrigued about the new information we learned about her father and it will be interesting to see what happens with her sisters.

The secondary characters are just as engaging as Elena and Rafael, Bluebell anyone? I love that we see so much of the Seven, Illium, Aodhan, the solemn angel and Jason show up as well as others. And of course we see many of those that cause evil. I love the ending, the story arc continues but the twist at the end makes it that much better and I am excited to see what happens. This is the sixth book in the series and the world building is large so I believe you should start at the beginning, after all the story of how they met is truly epic. Archangel's Legion is a wonderful addition to the series and I can't wait for more.

ARCHANGEL'S LEGION is the sixth full length novel in Nalini Singh's contemporary paranormal/UF series-Guild Hunter. The storyline focuses once again on the Archangel Raphael and his consort and lover Elena. There is a war on the horizon-a genocide brought about the Cascade-and Raphael's territory is the target. When angels fall from the sky by the hundreds and a blood born disease ravages the vampire numbers in New York, Raphael suspects another Archangel has plans for his demise. With his city under attack, Raphael begins to experience a power surge of epic proportions. Is Raphael the victim or the recipient of omnipotent powers?

Nalini pulls the reader into a storyline that will see friends and family fall in a war between the Archangels and their troops. A mysterious pox like disease threatens the vampire population while the zombie-like undead grow in strength and numbers. No one is safe from attack so Manhattan must be cleared of its' residents leaving a ghost town where only the supernatural remain. Vampires will join with the angels to defend against a powerful enemy whose goal is to take down New York and Raphael's control. But as one enemy attacks there will come support from a dark and dangerous unknown source, ensuring Raphael and Elena remain at the top of their game.

The relationship between Raphael and Elena continues to grow: their time together is sensual as well as sexually alluring and hot. Elena is the woman that keeps the Archangel's heart and soul alive; but he is still the most powerful being on Earth and his word is law. Elena may be Raphael's consort and lover, but she is still under his watch and command. While Elena grows into her powers, Raphael will have to stand back waiting for his `baby bird' to take flight.

Nalini Singh has written a heart pounding, action packed storyline of love and loss; death and destruction; family and friends; intrigue and suspense. Many of the previous storyline characters are brought together in a battle for New York and the ultimate power and control. No one is safe from the evil that approaches and in the end help will come from a source as ancient as time itself and one that has sworn to protect the `aeclari'.

ARCHANGEL'S LEGION is a must read for fans of the Guild Hunter series and Nalini Singh. Plenty of background and historical information is revealed through dreams sequences, recall and shared memories. And in the end, it is one couple's shared love for one another, that is the strength and power behind Raphael and the city he calls home.

Just when I think a series has plateaued and it can't get any better, I get the most enjoyable comeuppance of my life. I love the Guild Hunter series- the world, the characters, the plots and its over arcing story line. It has been fabulous and I've come to expect that, but also there was a part of me that felt as each was getting their story and danger was being evaded that things would mellow a bit. Um no... didn't happen. This was one wild, passionate, adrenaline-soaked ride that offered up the answers to so much from before even while my two favorite angels fought a huge menace and still had to fight internal stuff in their relationship. This is my favorite book in the series so far outside the first one.

Warning- this series must be read in order and since this is book six there will be series spoilers that can't be helped in the following review.

Weird stuff has been happening all over the world since Calianne rose from her sleep and the Cascade has hit. Archangel's are acquiring formidable powers swiftly, alliances are being forged and everyone's sights are turned to NYC and Archangel Tower where the weirdest of all begins to happen. First angels and birds fall from the sky, then disease riddles the previously impervious vampire population, Raphael experiences some changes personally and its unknown if a new power is rising in him or a very great threat. Elena is determined that nothing will take her Archangel away from her and whatever happens will happen to them together.

Elena and Raphael and their people plan for inevitable war even as they are not entirely certain from which direction the war will come. They tentatively reach out to make allies, but know that ultimately they will be on their own. Elena learns a deep secret from her family history even as she has to come to terms with what it means to be a hunter, an angel and a consort who might have to give up much of what she holds dear. Raphael is tempted with something he can ill-afford not to consider even as it promises to take away everything he has recently gained. War has come and they are sadly outnumbered.

Stellar plot that opened with the inexplicable and the horrible and just kept driving forward with bigger and better to the end. I speak of both the action and the character side of the plot. Raphael and Elena face personal and couple battles. And everyone is part of the physical battles. I loved getting the answers to a few things that I've always wondered about in previous books. I was also glad that the stories conflicts didn't feel tired or rehashed. There was something new even while there was the familiar too.
Speaking of tired, Raphael and Elena together were anything, but when it came to their relationship. I just love these two together. They love, they battle, they grow even stronger. And as to the new additions in the end, I totally look forward to what that adds to things in future books.

Such a satisfying installment to this already awesome Paranormal Romance series. Definitely worth it for fans of the genre.

My thanks to Penguin group and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

In Archangel's Legion (Guild Hunter #6) by Nalini Singh, Archangel Raphael has been alive for eons and is the protector who rules over what is now known as New York. Having only recently found his soul mate, his consort Elena Deveraux, Raphael is slowly learning how powerful love can be. Theirs is a fierce love with an intense bond formed between them, which ultimately is feared by some and celebrated by others. Their bond could prove to be the link that helps him save his city from an unknown attacker when angels begin to fall from the sky. The Falling, as it comes to be known, lasted for less than ten minutes, but took precious lives and injured many. Raphael is unsure if the event is due to the first Cascade in centuries, a shift in power and Archangel's abilities,or if it is a direct threat aimed at him. He has noticed changes in himself already as he grows stronger and his powers begin to change with each strange event. Raphael feels a coldness and distance building within him but he can feel also feel the depth of power he could have if he allows it to take hold. Elena is the anchor that keeps him from giving in to the darkness and instead, holding on to the bit of humanity she brought into his life.

Guild Hunter Elena Deveraux is still getting accustomed to her growing power as a new immortal and in becoming Raphael's consort. She wouldn't have believed just a few years ago that she would be the mate of an Archangel but she cannot deny the power of the love between them. With her beloved Manhattan potentially under attack, Elena is torn between her instinct to fight against their enemy, and her fear of losing Raphael to the dark power trying to take him over. She strikes to find a balance between her hunter-born ways and her position of being consort to an Archangel. Their world gets turned upside down as they search for answers to the strange threats against angels and vampires. Elena digs deep to find the courage to move forward in the face of danger, knowing it may not be quite enough to overthrow the evil they are battling.

Together Raphael and Elena must figure out which Archangel is behind the attacks and which can be trusted as an ally. The immortals of New York and beyond are called upon to join forces and wage a battle that may end with much bloodshed. But will there be enough time and manpower to defeat those that are using their power to enslave mortals for their own personal gain?

Nalini Singh has written an epic, complex story full of love, complicated emotions and painful lessons. Lush with incredible details, there are moments of passion and of humor, as well as philosophical discussions and strategies of war. There are a lot of secondary characters to this story which would perhaps make it a bit hard to follow if you haven't entered the Guild Hunter world before, but it is possible to enjoy as a stand alone if you just keep reading and be a bit patient learning the intricacies. I fell in love all over again with Elena and Raphael. Elena is so fierce and strong...all badass and full of sarcasm but protective of those she loves. Raphael is absolutely powerful. He loves Elena as he has no other before and he watches over his people with a keen eye to keep them safe at all costs. I seriously can't recommend this book enough. If you love paranormal romance that whisks you away to another world, look no further than Archangel's Legion.

When angels begin falling from the sky and supposedly disease immune vampires are dying, the archangel of Manhattan and his consort race to find out who or what is attacking their city and why. The stage is set for war as angelic powers evolve and one unknown enemy’s goal to subjugate Raphael and all whom he holds dear.

Change is coming to a world not prepared for the effects it will bring. Angels thought long gone from this world are rising from their seemingly endless sleep while other angels are experiencing evolution in power. Called the Cascade, the last time one flooded the earth, millions died as the world was forced into rebirth. As a cloud of death rolls across the Manhattan skyline, hundreds of angels plummet to their death as the city watches in horror. Raphael and Elena mobilize their people and begin to save those who can be saved. This is only the first in a series of attacks against Raphael and his city that herald the coming of war. Raphael has his suspicions as to who is behind the aggression but is unable to confirm. Elena’s hunter skills become needed when vampires begin to show signs of a disease that is killing them. When the evil presence makes itself known, along with their intentions, Raphael begins to gather allies and fortify his home. He soon finds himself caught in the Cascade, unsure who or what he is evolving into and if he will survive the transition.

Archangel’s Legion is number six in Nalini Singh’s dark and lush Guild Hunters fantasy series. Singh brings us an epic tale steeped in violence, power, and love. Change and sacrifice are a major themes as this evolving world takes flight with new and intriguing paths to follow.

The series and this installment revolve around two main characters-the tempestuous archangel of Manhattan, Raphael, and his guild hunter consort, Elena Deveraux. The normally subdued romance roars to the forefront in this installment while the the fantasy aspects play hard and fast with outstanding world building and the dynamic characters who breathe life in this series. The originality of the world and it’s characters is what keeps me hooked in this series. The lines between good and evil are blurred; giving credence to the knowledge that sometimes heroes and villains are only separated by a series of degrees. Smooth writing, fast pacing, and engaging dialogue keeps you on your toes to the very end. Multiple sub plots are rich in subterfuge and adventure as you submerge yourself into the wickedly decadent and dangerous lives of the amazing individuals who live in here.

Though this series was originally touted as a Urban Fantasy, I feel it’s completely paranormal paranormal now due to its strong balance between the storyline and the romance(s). The plot and romance blend so effortlessly you’re often not sure where one starts and the other ends. While the plot is engaging and action packed, it takes second place to our main two protagonists, Elena and Raphael.

Raphael and Elena are a complicated couple whose passionate love affair defies all odds. From the beginning, we have watched as these two have fought death and each other, only to survive to fight another day. The romance is more pronounced in this installment as Raphael and Elena, now mated, deal with the turbulent nature of their relationship and all it entails. Raphael struggles with his overly protective instincts, unable to bear how fragile his love truly is in the angelic world while trying to make sure he never clips her wings. As a much, much older immortal, his humanity is but a small flickering flame and almost entirely dependent on Elena and her influence. Elena hammers away at his authoritative nature everyday; making sure he understands the lines she will not accept him crossing. A majority of the story focuses on those lines.

Elena is still dealing with being the first made angel in thousands of years and and her role as consort/lover of an archangel who both thrills and terrifies her with his powers. She is also still grappling with the revelation that the gift that led to the murder of her mother and sisters comes from her father. The man who rejected her as a child without a backward glance. Elena does a lot of soul searching and emotional maturing. Her greatest fear is losing Raphael. She forever waits, quietly, for him to reject her as her father did. The strength of their bond grows both emotionally and physically as they continue to learn to dance with one another. They are the perfect couple. Both intelligent, strong, loyal, fierce about those they love, and utterly besotted with one another.
Their chemistry continues to explode off the pages, becoming a rich sensual entity that wraps you in it’s lush embrace.

Singh does a fantastic job of blending the suspense of the story with the emotional journey of Raphael and Elena. Non stop action speeds the story along as you frantically absorb all the nuances and shifts. The plot was remarkable in it’s elements and I found myself riveted as the story revealed itself. While there is a lot going on, Singh’s clear and concise writing style leaves little confusion. With each scene we watch Raphael and Elena face their fears and overcome obstacles while dealing with external factors that try to stop them. Neither plot nor romance is sacrificed. They balance and complement each other through the entire arc; merging together towards the end.

Engaging word play combined with explosive action and suspense creates a story you cannot put down. The supporting characters are intense, well developed, and intertwine with our protagonists to give us a rich, full bodied story. Complex and convoluted; we see the good and bad are merely defined by degrees of separation and much that has played out behind the scenes comes into the light. Everyone here has an agenda and does not always play by the rules. I found each one to be a satisfying addition to the story. There are plenty here to cheer and hate with abundance. We see more the Seven, one in particular whose story has haunted readers since he was first introduced, and the additional Cadre members. Alliances are made as enemies come out of the woodwork, threatening the well being of all involved.

As we headed towards the ending I found myself gripped with tension. Singh plays it close to the vest and I prayed the story would end the way I wanted. The ending IS phenomenal though while it wraps up the main conflict, it introduces a new and interesting aspect that assures us we haven’t seen the last of this world nor its addictive inhabitants.

Once again Singh leaves me both satisfied and wanting. Archangel’s Legion contains the perfect balance of action, suspense, intrigue, and romance that makes this series a must read.

As the Archangels age they're powers continue to evolve and become even stronger. Some archangels are almost pushed to the brink of insanity because of this and develop this godlike complex where they think they could become an exclusive powerhouse that can rule the entire world.

Raphael has that same potential but because of Elena, she is able to be do what Michaela wasn't able to do for Uram or Caliane for Nadiel - to save their consort from that verge of madness.
Not all the archangels are that lucky. A certain one in particular thinks they have reached their full potential and that it is their time to become a God/Goddess. Amassing an impressive army and somehow managing to acquire another from an unknown existence they aim to destroy every territory.

Alliances are formed but even so, the capabilities gained are way beyond what they ever imagined. Just when everything is lost, the unthinkable happens... out of desperation Raphael develops fully into this "shared" power but will it be too late to save the world?

"We fall, we fall together."

Just when I thought that the series can not get any better, Archangel's Legion just proved me wrong. Not counting Angel's Blood because of the initial world building, I would have to say that this is my favorite in the series.

Archangel's Legion is about friendship and loyalty, about building relationships and allegiance and most especially it is about how love can definitely conquer all.

There's so much to love about this book. First of all, there's the kickass female heroine Elena. Just made , she is nowhere near perfect. She is weak compared to the others but she is just as fearless as she was when she was just a mere hunter. Her hunter abilities and the ones she just acquired will no doubt eventually increase her expertise and ingenuity in the later books.
Even when Elena is pointed out to be insignificant by others after Raphael's affection she never doubted what they have is substantial. Being new in her role as consort she adjusted well and shows so much sincerity in dealing with their constituents. Her loyalty to her friends and to the guild is also encouraging.

I also enjoyed the way the author was able to showcase some of the minor characters in the series without it overshadowing the main story. Amongst the seven, Illium always compelled me the most but in this one I find someone even more intriguing than my precious Bluebell and I am hoping that he too will get his own book.

I found the allegiances that were formed between some of the most powerful Archangels' most interesting. The suspense was exemplary and the very descriptive final battle had me at the edge of my seat throughout the end of the book. The action sequences were so much more detailed then the previous books which I absolutely appreciated.

As with the rest of the series, the world building was exquisite and unparalleled to anything that I've ever read in the genre. The author sure has one helluva imagination! Great job Nalini Singh...I predict this one to be another bestseller.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Nalini Singh's decision to return her focus of the Guild Hunter books back to the original couple of Raphael and Elena. Far too often, I find myself bored with long running couples. They lose their fire and I lose my interest. But I can promise you that is not the case here. Not only did Singh reel me back in, I am loving this series now more than ever!

As the story begins, a deadly virus is hitting the vampire population in Raphael's territory. This is a huge problem, not only because it's killing Raphael's people, but because vampires are supposed to be immune to illness. It seems someone is doing this on purpose, and Raphael and Elena must figure out who it is and how to stop it. An emergency of this magnitude could cause panic or show weakness on Raphael's part, so they need to maintain the facade that everything is fine, while they root out the source.

If that weren't enough, the Cascade is moving into full swing. That means major shifts in the powers among the archangels. And everyone seems to be getting a huge new offensive power... except for Raphael. If one or more other archangels were to challenge him, he's not sure if he could win. Something IS happening with his abilities, though, and it may not be changing him for the better. If he lets the power in, Elena fears she could lose the man she loves. But if he turns away from it, he could lose his people -and even his life- to a stronger enemy.

This book grabbed a hold of me and never let go. The characters are so well drawn. I felt their emotions, believed in their turmoil, their insecurities, and most importantly, their absolute and unwavering love and loyalty for each other. Elena and Raphael have lost none of their fire with the passage of time. The romance just gets more engaging and the sex is molten hot. The secondary characters give extra layers of depth and emotion. It's a world that is utterly compelling and complete.

Perhaps what made the book so impossible to put down was the fact that the momentum just kept building. Everything just got bigger and bigger until the storyline virtually exploded on the page. The ending was exhilarating and satisfying. And I absolutely cannot wait for the next book.

I loved this book. This is a great series and this was a super addition to it. Raphael and Elena are wonderful together and my only disappointment in the book was that it had to end! I hope Singh gets the next book in the series out soon!

Raphael and Elena face many issues during this book. Raphael's mother throws a ball, which Raphael and Elena pretty much have to attend. This wouldn't be such a bad thing except that strange occurrences have started taking place around Raphael's territory that seems to indicate that another Archangel may be using a new power to soften Raphael's territory up before attacking. After a couple of such instances it becomes even more sure and Raphael and his people try to figure out who is doing what. Raphael also seeks to make some alliances that may help.

During these issues, it appears that Raphael is also evolving and gaining some new power. The problem is that the new power doesn't seem to be all good as it seems to be trying to take him over, making him remote and cold (both emotionally and physically) when it tries to take hold. Elena tries to do what she can to keep Raphael sane and with her, not corrupted by this new power. Although Raphael realizes the power may not be good for him, part of him wants to keep it because he needs more power to keep his people safe. Regardless of this, he's unable to retain it and fears not being strong enough when the threat to them becomes known. When a declaration of war comes, Raphael knows he has no more time and they have to try to defend their lands with what they have. Unfortunately, when the attack comes, they face much larger numbers than they expected and steps have been made to keep Raphael's allies out of the fight. The situation doesn't look good but works out with help from a very unexpected source, leaving them safe and the fighting ended. It seems likely that they'll have more danger to face in the future but things look hopeful.

Singh did a great job with the action part of the plot and the non-action part of the plot was just as good. Raphael and Elena get even closer in this story and I loved seeing their bond tighten. Raphael loves and cherishes Elena and she does the same for him. She's unwilling to let him face anything alone (even though he's a big, bad Archangel) when she can help him with it and she's a great help to him as he struggles to understand and deal with the new powers seeking to inhabit him. He helps her as well as she deals with family issues and other assorted things that come up. Raphael and Elena are great together and I loved how their love ends up being the key to their salvation. Elena's always so worried about how loving her might weaken Raphael and now we start to see just how much of a strength that love actually is. I loved Raphael and Elena and can't wait to see where their story goes as the series continues.

This was a great book that I loved to read. Such a great plot and wonderful characters, even the secondary characters are full bodied and add depth to the story that makes it even better. I wish the next book in the series was already out because I can't wait to see what happens next. I'd highly recommend this story. 2 thumbs up! :D

* note - I listened to the audio version of this story. The narrator did a very good job.

I believe this is my favorite angel series and I would say Archangel's Legion is was probably my favorite book since the series debut! It's definitely the perfect example of absence making the heart grow fonder. I genuinely missed Elena and Raphael's perspective so the story felt very fresh. They also have a whole slew of new problems and new...powers?

The story was really tight and the pacing was great. I wasn't bored for a second and Singh did great job of building a sense of foreboding and tension. I loved the appearances and development of a few side characters, particularly Illium, Aodhan, and Naasir. I definitely missed Venom though. He is my favorite side character (followed somewhat closely by Illium) . This book pretty much had everything I'd want in an urban fantasy/PNR read except for more Venom, but that's still a job well done.

I must say that I like Elena's progress as an angel. While we see improvements, it hasn't been an overnight process and she still has a lot of work to do. Raphael also appears to be evolving in a way that could only make sense for an archangel, though it does threaten to drive a wedge between him and Elena. Don't worry, there's still plenty of sexy times if that's what you come here for. I'm honestly impressed at how Singh packs so much story in these while giving a satisfying dose of romance too. Their relationships with their family also receive adequate development.

At first I was super concerned that because she was contracted for two more books we'd be seeing the end of the series soon. It didn't feel quite right to me because even though this is the 6th book, there's still a lot of story to tell and potential to expand the world. And quite frankly, I will not feel like this series is complete until Venom and Illium get their own books and in that order ~_^. The other day Ms. Singh herself calmed my fears and tweeted me that there will indeed be more books so I'm keeping hope alive for solo books of my boys and more Elena and Raphael too.

This book was AMAZING! It was just...wow.... So much goes on. A lot of character development, it's action packed, a lot of shit just kept hitting the fan! I love Raphael and Elena! Their relationship is amazing. I loved that they still fight and had issues, but the main thing is that they always make up and know that they truly love each other. I feel like with two head strong characters, it would be unrealistic that their relationship would be smooth sailing so i loved that part. And the make up sex was HOT!

There was a lot of character development in this book that i wasn't expecting and it made me love the book even more. I loved the focus on Elena's little sisters and her issues with her dad. I'm so glad we saw more of her and her dad. I really hated him but now that we know WHY he acted that way, it really made me understand him more. He's seen too much death and lost too many people he loves for him to be rational when it comes to vampires and hunters. I'm glad Elena is healing those wounds as well. Loved the scenes with Beth and Eve as well. I'm glad Elena is growing closer to her sisters. Also, that moment when Elena meets Tasha... too funny lol Loved how Elena handled that whole situation.

As for the Seven, i just LOVE them! The character development and insight with Illium and Aodhan. I can't wait for their books! I want to know what happened to Aodhan that make him closed off for two hundred years. And i just need for Illium to be happy! The scenes between Aodhan and Illium were great! I'm so glad Illium was able to get his friend back.

And that moment when the title "Archangel's Legion" falls into place and makes sense.... LOVED IT!!! So basically this book was action packed, steamy and amazing. Well worth the money! You get so much in this book and i loved every second of it. This has to be one of my favorites in the series and i can't wait until the next one! A must read ^_^

My love for Archangel's Legion, the sixth installment in The Guild Hunter series, is so immense that I don't even know where to begin trying to describe it. Becoming immersed into the world of Raphael & Elena once again was both thrilling and heart-warming. I was hooked from page one and taken on an extremely exhilarating ride until the very end.

In Archangel's Legion angels are dying, vampires are suffering from a mystery illness that is spreading and, as the Cascade progresses, the archangels are becoming more powerful and the threat of war is looming. Raphael and Elena's romance is stronger than ever; their love and bond to each other becoming the catalyst that increases their strength not only together but separately as well.

Archangel's Legion progresses the series fabulously, giving long sought after answers to many questions from previous books; raising more questions for future storylines; and delivering fantastic character development for the main characters, as well as secondary ones. Ms. Singh once again delivers an amazing world to the reader with her vivid descriptions and imagery. For a short while, I had the immense pleasure of living in a Raphael-ruled New York, and it was extraordinary!

The last few chapters of Archangel's Legion were intense, action-packed and invigorating. I was on the edge-of-my-seat the entire time; I don't think I stopped to breathe and I certainly don't have any fingernails left because it was just that damn good!

Overall, this was an amazing addition to the series and one of my favorites. We have finally returned back to Raphael & Elena, which is why I fell in love with the series to begin with. Ms. Singh is a master at writing in the Paranormal/Urban Fantasy genre and, with this installment, continues to prove why she is one of the genre's best authors.

Oh boy what a fabulous story. I could read about Elena and Raphael every day. They have grown so much as a couple and yet they remain true to the original characters that Nalini Singh created in the first book. I would love to add that I totally love Raphael's newly developed sense of humour. Archangel's Legion was outstanding. One of those books where I am sad it ended. I am suffering a book hangover.

One of the things that I just love about the Archangel Raphael and his Seven is that they are extremely bad ass and yet they are unapologetically, totally in love with their mates and aren't afraid to show it. Not all of the Seven are in a relationship but I just know that when they do each get their own books I can count on reading about that unconditional love.

Archangel's Legion had a lot going on. There are side stories, stories that have carried over from previous books and outstanding new stories forming. From the first page to the last chapter it was a true page turner. However there was some real head scratching moments and that happens near the end surrounding this new mysterious Legion. I am right confused. Probably just where Nalini Singh wants her readers.

The Archangel War, the Cascade is truly on. It has been building over the last few books but it was full blown in Archangel's Legion and it will be continuing in the next book. (Crosses fingers that the next book is Elena and Raphael again)

I really enjoyed reading about Elena and Raphael and could not wait for Nalini to get back to them after the 2 Guild Hunter books without them. I honestly had no want to read books 4 or 5 and was a little worried that I would be lost when I jumped back in for ARCHANGEL'S LEGION, but I am happy to report that I felt like I had not left the series at all.

A surprising amount of events and confrontations happen in ARCHANGEL'S LEGION and it's all written so smoothly that before you know it the book is at its end and you are pining for more. We get Angel's falling from the sky, woman throwing themselves at Raphael (although that is nothing new), Mother in Law drama, father drama and a supernatural war that you will not soon forget.

I love the development of Raphael and Elena's relationship. They have gone through a lot and they closer and closer every day and with every event. They both complement each other really well and I love watching them together. Elena handles the woman coming after Raphael surprisingly well and I can not help but laugh thinking of anyone brave enough to come after their relationship in the future. Raphael's Mom surprised me, I enjoyed her more than I thought I would after certain events. I understand Elena's Father better after ARCHANGEL'S LEGION. It will never excuse his behavior but I understand him now. The author brings out a lot of emotions in this installment you will be laughing, cringing, crying and yelling with the rest of us when you dive in.

The fight at the end, CRAZY! I was gripped to my seat with my heart pounding out of my chest while reading and I never thought it would end like it did. Why must we wait to get more? Will book 7 stay with Raphael and Elena? I really really hope so.

REVIEW:
Sometime you get to the last chapter of a book and think "Should I keep reading/listening or do I want one more minute, hour, day, or week?". That is how I felt with Archangel's Legion. It was like saying goodbye to a good friend that you know you won’t see for a whole year. I am so in love with Nalini’s Guild Hunter’s series I hope that she never stops writing. I serious love everything about this book. Raphael & Elena are just beyond awesome together. Raphael’s 7 are just flat out amazing. I so can’t wait for Nalini to write Illium’s book, I so love Bluebell!!!
I had the great honor to listen to this. I have listened to all of the Guild Hunter books on audio and total love Justine Eyre. I really enjoyed how many voices she is able to do with each being so distinct. You always know who is talking without her telling you. I am beyond excited to see what Nalini has in store for us next and very excited for Justine to tell me the story.
If you are new to Nalini’s Guild Hunter series. You have to start with book 1 there is no wiggle room on this one. All the books are so interwoven that you would be lost with out the history of each book. If you love audio books I would highly suggest giving the Guild Hunter series a spin.

I love this series and Archangel's Legion was another great addition. I was impatiently waiting for the story to return to Raphael and Elena as the main characters and don't wish to see it deviating from them in future books. If other fo Raphael's Seven need stories told, let it be within Raphael and Elena's ongoing story. I'm not so much a fan for having to wait until the very end for revelations to come, but I like how things turned out, except for how things came to pass with Lijuan. I wanted a different outcome, as I'm not a fan of the evil that needs to go continuing to not be defeated book after book after book. It was nice to get more of the story behind Elena's father, but he is still a deplorable person, it not excusing at all the way he treated and continues to treat Elena, and now it is started with another of his daughters. I was disappointed Raphael didn't have words with him, but had to grin at Raphael's thoughts on what he wanted to do to Elena's father. It was also nice to see Caliene coming around regarding Elena. Can't wait until the next book to see how Raphael acclimates his new "power" gained in the Legion and how the others of the Cadre view it. I've got to say, it is time for Lijuan's permanent end.

After the last few books moved away from Raphael and Elena to focus on other characters, I worried that returning the focus to Raphael and Elena wouldn't work in this book. Luckily, it worked out very well. It was nice to see how their relationship has changed, maturing and growing stronger, since the last time they were the main POV characters.

The hostilities that have been threatening over the last few books start moving into action in this book. The new powers that the archangels have been gaining makes the hostilities very uncertain, as things happen that can't immediately be pinned on any one, making it hard to plan.

I like see Elena try to figure out how to balance her Hunter life and her Angel life, and how to remain loyal to her old friends with being disloyal to her new ones.

We learn a major bit of Elena's father's history that turns him from a cruel villain in her life into someone to be pitied. That was interesting to learn and to see how Elena's reactions to him start changing almost immediately.

Overall, a very enjoyable book.

Archangel's Legion shifts the series focus back to Elena and Raphael and I loved almost everything about it! I am not usually into super alpha heroes, but Raphael and his feelings for Elena just do it for me. I love the respect they have for one another and how their relationship has allowed both to grow as characters. The plot was action-packed like I expect from this series and the danger felt very real. Longtime readers will be satisfied by the epic battle at the end that showed how scary Lijuan really can be. You can't go wrong with this series or this installment for pure paranormal goodness.

*There should be more freaking stars to use* Raphael and Elena are back! And. It. Is. So. Good! Fast-paced, passionate, and filled with action, intrigue, and the amazingly-epic-soulmate togetherness that is our favorite Archangel of New York and his kick-ass Consort. They battle the purest form of evil from the outside, as well as a power trying to claim Raphael from within. Elena truly rocks her roll by battling the external forces beside Raphael, as well as keeping him grounded in a humanity unprecedented for an Archangel. The ending was monumental and finally proved to Elena that she is not Raphael's biggest weakness, but his greatest strength, instead.

Totally loved the snark and banter between them:
R~I'll enter first.
E~I'm the hunter. I should go first.
R~Of course you may go first. When I am dead.
E~Go. We'll argue about your autocratic tendencies later.
R~I'll look forward to it.
And the poetry:
He watched her leave in a sweep of midnight and dawn, her wings unlike any other, and he knew he'd damn his own honor and take vengeance on the world should anyone dare lay a finger on her.
And the emotion:
I didn't know fear until you, Elena. Use the power wisely.

I could go on and on with the quotes, but then I'd have to put spoilers on them. Bottom line: Archangel's Legion rocked everything. I've said it before and still say, Roarke and Eve with wings(;

Considering that this is installment #6 in the Guild Hunter series, you should be very familiar with Nalini Singh's writing and her character development.
I've been looking forward to returning to Elena and Raphael's story for quite some time now. However, the book didn't deliver quite the excitement that I'd hoped.
Raphael, who continues to evolve into a more powerful Archangel, struggles to hold onto his more "humane" side. Having Elena as her anchor, Raphael must forge allegiances to fight a war that is threatening his New York City.
Archangel's Legion falls right in line with all the other books in the series, and is therefore a very satisfying, yet predictable read. The plot has some interesting story arcs and more insight into Elena's family history is given. It was good, but Singh didn't knock my socks off either.

WOW! What a terrific ending! I was flabbergasted by the Legion, totally didn’t see that coming. I think I liked this book as much as the first one, ANGEL’S BLOOD. Usually, I enjoy the first book in a series the most. Since the characters are familiar to me in subsequent books, the unique feel lessons as I continue reading the series. But not so in ARCHANGEL’S LEGION. I love Raphael and Elena. Truly, Raphael is one hot archangel, and Elena? She’s definitely his match. The secondary characters are well developed and I enjoy their interaction and the loyalty they have for one another. The dialogue is crisp, sharp, and funny. The emotions are real and the storyline had a suspense feel that kept me guessing until the end.

ARCHANGEL’S LEGION is a fantastic PNR and I recommend the entire Guild Hunter series.

Focused. Strong. True.

When the most powerful beings in the world start to fall from the sky, things are terribly wrong. What started out as a typical day in Manhattan, quickly turned deadly as thousands of Angels plummeted down. Guild Hunter Elena and her lover, the Archangel of New York, Raphael, know that they have to get to the bottom of this as fast as possible. They cannot afford to appear weak, but with their lines decimated and a dark force looming, war is an inevitability.

With each new book I read in this series, I only fall more in love with the world and the characters. I cannot express how excited I was when I saw that ARCHANGEL'S LEGION would return to Elena and Raphael. As much as I enjoyed reading the other characters' books, these two were my first love in the series. There is just something so raw and primal about the two of them together that I absolutely love. It's amazing to see how much they still clash despite needing each other so much. At this point, I do not think either could survive without the other one, as they seem to be completely interwoven together. But as I said, that doesn't keep them from clashing, especially as Raphael's predilection of making decisions without Elena, or overruling her even when she asks him not to. Of course Elena has her own trust issues plus an incredible amount of stubbornness as well, so she also has to constantly work on choosing her battles. All of this just makes things so electric between them. In fact there was more than one angry sex scene, and boy were they HOT, so passionate and raw, it just took my breath away. My all time favorite trope is enemies to lovers, as I love the build up and tension in these stories, so I'm one happy camper that despite them being together, their relationship hasn't lost one bit of that fire and spark that I love. I'm not sure who will be featured next in this series, but as always I'll be eagerly awaiting Raphael and Elena's return.

Some how, amazingly each new installment in this series, only brings high stakes. Honestly I'm in sheer awe at Nalini Singh's ability to outdo herself each and every time. You would just that at some point by now that things would have started to slow down or at least become old hat when it comes to the threats. Desensitized may be the best word to describe what I mean. But that couldn't be further from what has happened in this series. Each new threat to the characters that I have grown to love feels every bit as strong as the first one did. In fact, they may just be worse because each new book only gets me further invested into these characters. I have to admit that the early part of the book when the angels started falling from the sky was incredibly intense. And as for the rest of the book, suffice it to say that I have very little fingers left from the nerves. It was that intense, but oh so good as well, especially when you add in all the new twists and turns.

With a hot romance full of incredible tension, a stellar cast of characters that you can really get behind, intense action and a kick ass plot, I couldn't possibly rate ARCHANGEL'S LEGION any higher. This is series is on my keeper shelf, and definitely and auto buy. Trust me, run do not walk to your nearest bookstore to snatch this puppy up as it will give you a guaranteed solid block of entertainment that you won't want to miss.

Best of the series thus far. All the main characters heavily involved in the most action-packed story yet. Particularly liked that the warrior Elena is back in this one, where she has been minimized of late. Very good and entertaining plot and a lot of character growth since everyone was required to save New York. Without giving any spoilers, I will say that Elena's "human heart", so often a topic in earlier books, actually plays a pivotal role in this one. This is a "read it 'til done" book (2:30a.m. for me).

What is Nalini doing to me! All this epic changes in both her series!!! This installment was almost perfect. It focus on Ellie and Raphael, their love and more importantly, advances the storyline. I've read every book in this series (and the psy-changling) and I can honestly say, none of them are weak or the weakest. Each had something to contribute to the overall storyline. The quality of her stories are such that I don't mind that she release about 1 book a year (per series). To me, I'd rather she take her time and write quality instead of cranking out 6 books a year.

Overall I liked the book, I especially like the little nuggets thrown here and there like the beginning of her guard (the new angel we met waaaaay back in book 1)

I am so glad we got back to Elena and Raphael. Sometimes it is nice to read after a couple that you like... but Jason's book was boring and they have too many sub stories in this series. I get the Psy books do a new couple every book and most of them are great but this series is much better when it is Elena and Raphael.

what an awesome read this book turned out to be. I actually took a chance and bought this book although I did not care too much for nalini singh's last guild hunter story. Jason's story was okay but there really was not a lot of chemistry between him and his princess. I took a chance with this one and was not disappointed. There was some frustrating moments... like if I could actually reach inside the story line and make the characters do what I wanted them to do. For instance why oh why did they let LiJuan escape? Again? Develop another villain already. But I believe that's what a good story does....frustrates you, makes you a little sad, and then gives you hope for the next one. Great read.

-2.5 I really enjoyed the holding power this series had over me, in the past. I had a hard time just staying focused on the story. It strayed too far away from the main action to keep me engaged and intrigued with the characters. I am finished reading this series. It has gone in a direction that does not suit my taste.
I love Raphael and Elena, they are a fabulous couple, yes they rub wings very well. I know because they did this often, too often for my taste. It felt to me that the main focus was of their unbreakable bounding in all ways. I wanted more on the side characters, more on the infections, the back stories of these other archangels, more conflict. I didn't find the brief moments of conflict mixed in the lovey-dovey detailed enough to hold me hostage. I never believed they were really in danger.
The title, Archangel's legion, seems very wrong after finishing this book. We don't find out what the Legion is till the last 20 pages. I would have liked them introduced earlier on to break the monotony of Raphael and Elena.
The part of the book I enjoyed- the dreams, they were creepy and very interesting. I wanted more on them. The Legion, ? What, How, Who- Geesh it was the title after all. These part were fantastic but the author only through out crumbs on them.
Not my flavor of reading material. Bye Bye

Nalini Singh creates amazing characters with such impressive detail. Their emotions pull you in and draw you along their journey with them as if you were really there.
I absolutely love Elena and Raphael together. Their chemistry is explosive and brings to light a relationship every reader will envy. The love scenes? Epic!!
An explosive page turner that will keep you anticipating the turn of the next page, Nalini Singh is a genius story builder that knows how to write stories full of suspense and romance!!
You won't want to miss out on the sixth installment of the Guild Hunters!

4.5 Stars...
Well, i decided to skip Jason's book for now, i'll read it when i don't have any other book important to read and i really want to know his story.
As always, Raphael didn't disappoint, loved him, his relationship with Elena, understood much better her father, i still don't like him. Also, we got to see more of Illium and Aodhan, i want their books like now! Hopefully the author will give them very good stories for them and for Ash and Janvier and Venom and Naasir, hell, for everyone! I really like this series and will continue to read it. If you haven't started, you should do it now.

Once again the Archangel of China has unleashed her forces in an attempt to destroy Manhattan and capture Raphael. Vampires are being infected with poison, angels are being attacked, birds are dying, a river runs with blood, unborn are being unleashed and Raphael and Elena have to deal with his mother and her father. Archangels are acquiring new powers and alliances must be formed and new entities appear. Another wild ride.

(This book was provided to me by the publisher for review)

Summary from the publisher:

Nalini Singh, the New York Times bestselling “alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) returns to an immortal world of violent passion and lethal power…on the brink of a deadly archangelic war.Angels are falling from the sky in New York, struck down by a vicious, unknown force.Vampires are dying impossibly of disease.Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael must discover the source of the wave of death before it engulfs their city and their people, leaving New York a ruin and Raphael’s Tower under siege by enemy archangels.Yet even as they fight desperately to save the city, an even darker force is stirring, its chill eyes trained on New York…and on Raphael. Rivers of crimson and nightmares given flesh, the world will never again be the same…

My Musings:

This was my first introduction to the novels of Nalini Singh and I didn't regret picking this one up. From the very first chapter you slowly fall in love with the powerful and mysterious archangel Raphael and his stubborn but loyal consort, the guild hunter turned angel, Elena. The characters are so well written that even having never met them before I found myself knowing them before I had ventured through more than a couple of chapters.

Singh managed to weave a complex web of storylines; Elena's traumatic childhood, Raphael's issues with the mother who went mad and tried to destroy him, an angelic war which could destroy the world and the ever growing love between our two heroes without overloading the reader.

At no point in my journey with Raphael and Elena was it easy to put down the book. The story was full of energy and I was constantly reading 'just a bit more' to find out how they dealt with the next plot twist.

I loved that Elena was still learning the role of Consort as it meant that I could learn along with her. Meaning that as a new reader I never felt like I was floundering in an Archangel political minefield.

I had only one problem with the book, and it was purely down to picking it up mid series, I struggled with the characters having two names (Ilium/Bluebell). It did take me a while to figure that out but it didn't detract from the story.

I have to say that I was more than pleasantly suprised by how much I loved this book. In fact I have downloaded all the other Guild Hunter books so I can catch up while waiting for the next installment.

Overall Rating: 5 Stars.

Sensuality Rating: 3 Whilst not overly steamy or erotic you definitely felt like you were sharing an intimate experience with the angelic couple.

This was another great book and had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happened next. I like Nalini's sense of humor and all of her books that I have read so far. (A lot) I'm getting a late start on this series. Blessings to you all!

Nalini Singh doesn't disappoint with this latest installment of the Guild Hunter series. With Elena growing more into her role of consort to the archangel of New York and a newly made immortal while Raphael is honing a newly acquired power and still gaining more their limits are tested when two archangels band together to bring death and disease to Raphael's territory and ultimately to the world. New alliances form and old ones are strengthened to halt this new evil from spreading. This is a read that you won't want to put down til the very end then start all over again!

Archangel’s Legion moves the overall story arc along in a big way. While the focus is back on Raphael and Elena, many other favorite characters are on screen as well. I do agree, however, with the reviewers who have noted that some aspects of the storytelling and especially certain phrases are seriously being recycled at this point. Perhaps it wouldn’t have been quite so noticeable if I hadn’t listened to this series one after another without breaks in between – but I did. Normally, that fact alone would be a blazing sign that I adored this series in a big way… but honestly I was between a rock and a hard place with not much else to read. Oh, I liked the series – no doubts there. I just had a lot of eye rolling going on in the last three books because some of the phrasing is over-used. I admire Ms. Singh for her unique take on the paranormal genre and for her storytelling abilities in general; I just hope that she takes some time to expand her repertoire before a new book is released.

Elena and her consort, Raphael, are preparing for war. The novel mostly circles around the two of them trying to confirm who will lead the attack against them. Between diseased vampires, "the falling", and a shipload of resurrected bodies, the two have their hands full. Readers do get a peak of the reasoning behind Elena's father's craziness concerning born hunters and learn how the cascade will change Raphael, but you'll have to wait until the very end for that one.

The BITCH is back. Nasty things are happening in NY and most of it can be laid at the wicked witch of death - Lijuan's feet. She back, she is pissed and she means to take out Raphael. If that wasn't enough it appears it is the time of the Cascade when the angels get powers and world changing events occur. Elena and Raphael will face all kinds of challenges and get help in a surprising form. The war has just begun. Action, adventure and love. All the things Nalini Singh does best.

One of the best writers of paranormal fiction I've ever had the pleasure to read. Both this series and the Psy/Changeling series are outstanding.
This book in particular was every bit as good, every bit as tense, every bit as "if anybody disturbs me while I'm reading this book, I will hurt them. Badly.". I'm not, generally speaking, a fan of vampire fiction but this is one of the few series that includes vampires among their characters that I can believe (in the story world), and enjoy very much. These guys are great, but my favorites are the angels (in a sense I would have never thought of, and if I had I wouldn't have thought it could be believable), and the Guild Hunters. Just personal preference.
I cannot stress enough that you need to read this series and the Psy/Changeling series if you like paranormal fiction. Do it. Do it now.

I LOVE this series! While I enjoyed the last 2 books focusing on other characters - it was nice to go home to Raphael and Elena. The preparations for war and defending their city got a little confusing -- and I wasn't sure where R's "spec" would lead -- but I held on for the ride & was delighted I did. WONDERFUL conclusion to this installment. The Legion.

I love this series. Nalini Singh writings is so good that when I read these books I feel like I am watching the scenes unfold before my own very eyes. Love the relationship between Raffael and Eleana. Enjoy reading more about the Seven. I finished reading this book in 2 days. I would have finished in one but unfortunately I had to work and make a living so I can continue to buy Nalini's books!

After reading the entire series, the first book, Angel's Blood, is my favorite because it has the courtship of Archangel Raphael and Hunter Elena. This is now my second favorite book because it shows Elena's interactions with the rest of the Cadre, and Raphael's new evolving powers. Full of action, plot and a surprise twist ending, this book is highly recommended for readers of this series.

Nalini's book 6 is another showcase of immense talent creating a story line that draws you in and immerses you in a life that feels so real and makes you are a part of it. This book sets us up for incredible drama yet to come and I am excited to see Raphael and Elena's story develop further.

There were a lot of fight scenes. I would have preferred a HEA for another character instead of a connecting book for the main characters. It did have romance and adventure, but I don’t think it furthered the story of Raphael and Elena much. I also don’t like endings that wrap themselves neatly based on nothing that was mentioned earlier in the story. 3 stars because I like the author’s style of writing. But the plot was my issue with this book.

Nalini Singh has a way of creating worlds that become real to you. Her world of Angels and Guild Hunters is my favorite. This newest addition to the series is a great read. If you haven't read this series start with the first book Angel's Blood and enter a gripping series.

My oh my... Nalini's writing just gets better and better! Nalini Singh is the one author I literally drop everything for every time a new book of hers comes out... Archangel's Legion is one of the many reasons why.

Wow this was more than i ever expected, Nalini is a fantastic story writer. Elena and Raphael are still strong as ever, and the twist at the end was totally unexpected but it fits so will with the story. The only sad thing about it, is that it ended and i have the most wicked book hang-over ever. A million stars for this book can't wait for the next one.

Didn't love it. Never thought I'd say that about a Nalini Singh book. I now compare other authors by Ms. Singh's phenomenol talent. Just not this time. The explaination for Jeffery Deveraux inexplicable animousity toward Elena was powerful. Loved the relationships between Elena and her three sisters. Loved the way Raphael and Elena continue to grow closer narrowing the gap created by the vast differences in power. Loved the Legion and why it came back from antiquity.

But I felt this story's greatest weakness is the one deminsionality of the antagonist. Lijuan has delusions of godhood but she has manners only not so much. Michaela is a 14k gold bitch who loves little children so does Charisemnon, little girl children. Each are painted without the vaguest virtue. The explaination for not wiping out the continued threat was weak. Once again not consulting Jessamy and/or Caliane about the mark on Raphael's face had me screaming.

Please stop slicing and dicing Ashwini. Tell Ash and Janvier's story please, please, pretty please.

Marginal recommendation.

I have been lucky enough to read all of the Guild Hunter/Archangel series to date. I am so looking forward to getting more (I am so selfish!). I hope Miss Singh doesn't decide not to write them anymore.

Ok, I have to admit that I liked the book, but the miraculous save stuff makes me wonder who Anita Blake's going to have sex with to save the day. And when things turn into old home week a la Christine Feehan, it makes me wonder how much life is left in the series. Which would be a shame, because I quite like the main character. Next book will tell if this goes from a favorite to a blah.
