I was so happy to see there is a hardcover of one of my favourite books. This is a must read for anyone who wants to move forward in their life, but kind of has had it with the Tony Robbins' of the world.

This book is really meant for a "sales" type person. People who are annoying and think they own the world, and are better than everyone. They need books like this... it helps them feel better about themselves. Otherwise, this books is just a ridiculous read.

Generally I don't rate self-help books negative, because every book has atleast one good point that's not there in others. But this book is a big rip-off!!! It just goes on and on saying "do this...do that....do this....do that". I want my $9.95 back

Rhinoceros Success is a good book about success, positivity, and determination. It was easy to read, informative, entertaining and covers every important area of life. Highly recommended as an addition to any success library.

This is a pretty interesting book for creating a paradigm shift of the mind set. This will help one to understand why some folks make it, while others just go through life reacting to the turbulence in their path.
It's a quick read. Get it for you and a friend who may need guidance, then follow the instructions within the book to charge through life.

I loved this book....a really quick, practical guide to becoming a "RHINO" mentality! I am in real estate sales and it was very practical in approach with a good bit of humor! Buy it! Read it! Live it, fellow Rhino!

Not your typical motivational book. Very short, very simple, sometimes silly. Almost insultingly so. But you can read this in one sitting and it does drive home many important motivational points. As a biologist, the ridiculous anthropomorphic animal analogies made me want to vomit, but that's just me.

It was an easy read, but missed the mark for me. Probably good for those seeking the morivation that comes from having a good cheerleader in your corner. Less substantial if you are looking for a playbook you would expect from a coach. If you are expecting examples highlighting people and businesses that embody the books theme, you will find there are few if any. I found the Rhino example to be fun, but overplayed.

I've got this book and read it, and I found it useful. The author aims to help the reader to focus on y your targets and charge yourself towards them. And he did provide a good easy to read material that fulfill the aims of the book.

What would happen to you if you were run over by a herd of Rhinos? Serious injury and most likely death. Same would happen in an organization except it would be morale and initiative by those flattened by the Rhinos. The only person that benefits under this scenario is the Rhino. Under true leadership everyone should benefit.

I wish this guy could have kept his religious chirps to a minimum. I just wanted to enjoy my book and get reinvigorated over the holiday. Instead, I'm reminded of my parents trying to give god the credit for success and sin the blame for failures instead of taking responsibility. Not a bad book but damn, it could have been better.

I would give this book to someone who has a sense of humor and can enjoy the message. I did stop reading it after a few chapters because "childish" came across my mind too many times but it can be a little entertaining. I give it 4 stars because of the humor and because it didn't have tons of filler pages to relay the message

Get out of my way I am charging! Very balanced. After telling us to charge he tells us we are not the top Rhino. We in other words have a higher power to look to. Charge to that power the rhino way. When you are knocked down get up straight and charge. Remember a mad hole once in a while. Very good book

Love the simplicity of the message. The prescription for getting up and getting activated to live your life to the fullest! To put your actions where your mouth! Sorta like the challenge of "Are you a man or are you a mouse?!"

Explains it all without going through "the 7 steps of a sale" the "art" of negotiating, etc., etc. stuff you find in most success books. It is as simple as Scott tells it. The ABCs of sales is Always Be Closing. That's how a Rhino sells. The Rhino doesn't go through "7 steps of the charge".

If you are serious about improving your state of being this book is perfect. I make a habit of reading self help/motivation books and this book stands alone as succinctly giving you fine points of becoming a better you. Many of the book's points have been made in other places but this book so refreshingly reminds you of thing you know you should be doing but are not, reminds you of past success, and perhaps introduces some new concepts. A must read if you are looking for success self help books.

At first I was really stoked listening to this book (i got the audiobook)... but after a while it got harder and harder to keep listening... I thought this was a book about becoming successful, not a book about religious beliefs, or convincing you to give your hard earned money to churches...
... I think this could have been truly amazing, had the author just left out the religious rhetoric.

Rhinoceros Success is the first (and probably the last) personal development book I have read that uses rhinos, cows, and torpedoes as a metaphor for life. It employs kitsch, hyperbole, and melodrama to make its point. The book is a combination of clichés, mixed metaphors, and fragmented sentences. Truthfully, it is ridiculous.

...And I love it. There are not many books I will read more than once and this is one of them.

In this book Scott Alexander asks you if you are a dumb cow sitting under a tree letting life just happen to you or if you are a hard charging rhinoceros chasing down what you want, laughing at troubles, and running over every obstacle in your way. He also points out that rhinos are not afraid of torpedoes. Are you afraid of torpedoes? If you are then you are a cow.

Some have given this book a poor rating. I think they have missed the point. They are the intellectuals, business book authors, and mid-level managers (me raises hand) who want to overcomplicate winning. They are cows.

They see successful people and rather than emulate them they backfill complicated stories as to how these rhinos got to where they are. Creating these stories makes them feel better about themselves. If they can come up with an intricate enough of a story then it is not their fault that they are mediocre cows just waiting for the jungle to decide their fate.

What they do not realize is that the successful people upon which they endow mystical, secret knowledge are in fact just like them but are simply willing to do what nobody else wants to. They take on obstacles that scare everybody else. They do it by being a hard-charging rhinos that laugh at difficulties, get knocked down but then spring to their feet and continue charging.

I'll leave it up to you to decide if you are a Rhinoceros or a Cow.

I think its designed to demean people if they are ordinary in a effort to make them into something they are not. This just strips people of what little money they can get hold of. The end result is a few at the top hurt most of the little guys for the sole purpose of getting rich themselves.Shameful is the only word that comes to mind!

If you enjoy books that generalize and arbitrarily assign people to one of two groups then you might take something away from the book. In the authors mind there are two types of people "Cows" (lazy people who want nothing out of life) or "Rhinoceros" (industrious people who charge ahead and get everything they want out of life). Whether you are a cow or a rhino is dependent on whether your behavior falls in line with what he sees as worthwhile or what he sees as unnecessary. Unfortunately the world is not so black and white, I quit reading the book halfway through, because it wasn't likely to expand my understanding of the world I live in and there were other books far more worthy of my time.

Wow. I just finished this book and I still can't decide what is more shocking: the number of 5 star ratings this book has gotten, or the fact that this book was ever published in the first place. I have never written a review for any book that I have ever read prior to this, but this book is so silly and unhelpful that I felt compelled to warn others not to waste their money. I bought this book based on the number of positive reviews that it has received, and I hope I can prevent someone from making the same mistake. If there are that many people out there that legitimately thought this was a good and helpful book, then our country is in bad shape. What a completely worthless piece of garbage.

This book is great fun! Recently challenged at a Tom Ferry Summit to start reading 10 pages out of a book each day, I came home and broke out books I have intended to read for some time. This was the first one!
This is a light hearted book about being a better version of you. I would not call it a normal "How To" book as it pokes fun at who we are as "cows" and encourages you to be a Rhinoceros. Faith, Family, Finances, in everything charge ahead and live the life you are meant to live. I think my favorite chapter was Rhino Games. Heading out to play one now! Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

I've read all of the great self-improvement books. I know about writing down your goals, dressing for success though I don't always, and how to win friends and influence people and such. You need to charge out. Rhinos charge massively. Charge and you will succeed. Succeed and you will feel good. It is a circle. You have to be on alert. Plan your attack and attack your plan. You are the president of You Inc. You are a Niagara Falls of energy. Let your learning lead to action, not necessarily just knowledge. The families of Heinz, Colgate and Rockefellers have pointed to tithing as the key to their fortunes. You can love money a lot, but never let it become your god.

I received “Rhinoceros Success” as a congratulatory gift for having completed a long and difficult project. The subtle of this book, “The Secret to Charging Full Speed Toward Every Opportunity” is a perfect description of this book’s message, which is creating the mindset to be the best you can be in life.

The author's approach to delivery his message is a simple one. Those who are driven are the Rhinoceros. They are thick-skinned creatures, capable of forging forward to their goals with their shear size and determination. Nothing can stop a Rhinoceros from attaining their goals and living the life they desire.

At the other end of the spectrum are the people identified as the Cows and the Sheep. They represent the rest of the population, those who simply let life happen "to" them. They are the unmotivated, the lazy and those content being average. These are the people who the Rhinoceros must plow through, work around and avoid in order not to be drawn into their average mindset.

This book is a fast read. It's only 97 pages long and has numerous illustrations. However, the message of developing a determined mindset to achieve your goals is found on every page using the Rhinoceros and Cow comparisons. While there are numerous "self-help" books that offer a similar message of "determination is the key to success,” this book delivers that message in a succinct way using the Rhinoceros/Cow analogy. And while the idea of using animals as means to convey the message may seem strange, it won’t take long to transfer the imagery (especially the Cows) to the less than motivated people in your life.

It’s important to know that this book's focus is to motivate the reader to act, and it does a good job of that. What's missing from this book is a toolbox of suggestions of how to maintain being a Rhinoceros. The suggestion to go out and be awesome is good, but "Just Do It" doesn't work for all people all the time. Sometimes we need to know how to maintain that motivation when we don’t have the energy to do so. Suggestions on those techniques can be found in other books, and this author does not attempt to cross that bridge.

However, if you're looking for a book to give you a quick shot of motivation, or to remind you that success is the result of sustained focus and determination, this book is the quick read that would do just that.

I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the single most motivating book I've ever read. Sure, there are longer and more technical books (Carnegie, Hill, etc) which are fantastic at what they do. But this gem is short and fun! I was handed a copy when I was 18 years old (it was fairly new at the time, as was I!) and have re-read it roughly once a year every since. It's a little goofy, and possibly dated, but the message is as valid today as it was in 1990: If you want it, put your horn down and CHARGE! Here's the author's secret: He only "motivates" people who want motivation. So, if you want a quick read, and some powerful (and fun!) imagery in your life, get this book!

I find the Rhinoceros a fascinating and even misunderstood animal. I do not think it has any natural enemies. Any animal would be crazy (or dead) to try to attack a Rhinoceros. A Rhinoceros charges forward. If they are not charging, they stand confidently- a vision of awesomeness and power.

We can learn a lot from the attitude and demeanor of a Rhinoceros. This book, "Rhinoceros Success" by Scott Alexander, gives you those intangible and tangible principles that can help you become successful in any endeavor- because you choose to emulate a Rhinoceros. If you emulate an antelope or gazelle, you will become a prey of another animal. If you emulate a vulture, you may fly high but you live off the remains of other animals. If you emulate a water buffalo, you are a tough animal but lions do attack and kill water buffalos. The Rhinoceros is a great animal to emulate. This book is a great read on succeeding by emulating a Rhino.

One of the few self help books that I don't like. He spends the whole book telling you to "go be a rhinoceros" and "charge at your day!" But never tells you how.

The book overall is very cheesy and sounds a like it is written for kids. It's all fluff and no substance. The points he makes are good but I "got" the point of the book after the first two pages. The rest was saying the same thing over and over.

Inspiring and at times a bit over-the-top corny, but he hammers his point home. I think this would be a great book for pre-teens and teens. It's written in language that is easy to understand and grasp the concepts.

THIS BOOK NO ONLY LETS A PERSON SEE THE WORK-A-DAY WORLD AS IT IS, BUT ALSO GIVE US A WAY TO LOOK At OUR LIFE AS IT COULD BE IF ONLY WE LET GO, AND START TO TAKE CHARGE OF WHAT WE CAN DO AND NOT WHAT OTHERS MIGHT WANT US TO DO.
WHAT WE CAN BECOME IS LITTLE OF WHAT WE ARE! IF WE EXPECT TO OVERCOME WHAT THE OTHERS IN THE WORLD AND/OR WORK PLACE THINK WE ARE WE MUST CHARGE AND SCOTT SHOWS US HOW. IF ONLY WE COULD GET THIS LITTLE BOOK INTO OUR SCHOOLS AND TEACH THE LESSONS FROM IT WE COULD CHANGE THE LIVES OF THOSE THAT THINK THEY HAVE TO GROW UP OR BE LIKE THERE TEACHERS OR PARNETS.
I FIRST GOT AHOLD OF SCOTT'S BOOKS IN THE EARLY 80S AND HAVE BECOME ONE OF THE MOST CHARGING RHINOCEROSES IN ALL the JUNGLE OF TEXAS...
SURE WISH MR. ALEXANDER WOULD WRITE MORE. MY COLLECTION OF RINOS SIT PROUD IN MY OFFICE FOR ALL TO SEE AND TO KNOW ME IS TO UNDERSTAND WHY.

Written with wit and filled with guidance is the simplest way I can describe "Rhinoceros Success" by Scott Alexander. I found this book in a time of my life when I didn't understand the paths that life had laid at my feet. I was confused and grasping at one motivational book after another. My question was a simple one, "How was I going to become successful?" I was told to make a list, visualize my goals, develop my success mantra and on and on and on. None of that amounted to drop of success because it didn't explain the choices I had to make and the obstacles I would face. This little red book does exactly that.

"RS" as I affectionately call it, ended my search and set me on my path that over 25+ years has brought me my business, my family and my peace of mind (along with two inch thick skin and a few torpedo scars; read the book and you'll understand). Those other books? Well, they are cluttering shelves in someone else's library and no doubt gathering dust. I re-read this book at least twice a year. I gift this book to my friends and employees (it is mandatory reading for my staff), it is perfect for every graduate I have ever known. I have even been known to give a copy or two for rhinos I've met in the jungle.

So, buy it already! I know that if you read it, and learn from it's words and animations, it will change the way you see your path ahead. It changed mine!

See you in the Jungle....

Other than coming to Jesus Christ as Lord, this book was one of those secondary life changers. It gave me a grid of perspective. I had always been a critical thinker, but I floundered in mentally knowing how to maximize my gifts. This book changed my life. I think it is important with every approach to remove the temptation of selfishness, and look at the big picture for others along with that goal of personal success. I recommend this book to those that are good people, do the right thing, but flounder in getting out there and making a difference. Quick Read as well. Excellent!

I used to sell cars. My sales were very low even though I read and tried to follow a lot of sales training. My co workers and I read and read to find the secret of the top dogs. Come to find out they were Rhinos. One of the best salesmen at the dealership told me he could help if I followed exactly what he told me to do. He gave me this book. My life is 100% better. My sales increased and I left the dealership to open my own sucessful insurance agency. The book is very simple. That is exactly why it works. I have set aside all the steps and procedures of the other books and all the crazy rituals all the self proclaimed sucess gurus offer. Now I just change. I am a rhino. I live like a rhino and change like a rhino.

This book is short, easy to read, and humorous...and it teaches you to become an aggressive, charging rhinoceros.

Why is being a rhinoceros important?

Because, as the author points out, being a rhinoceros is the true secret of success. Think I'm kidding? Look at any successful person--from Donald Trump to Richard Branson to Larry Ellison to Ray Kroc--(the list goes on and on) all these individuals have one thing in common...WHETHER THEY REALIZE IT OR NOT, THEY ARE ALL CHARGING RHINOCEROSES!!

It is true. After reading this book, I have noticed the rhinoceros trait in every successful person I have come across.

The common denominator--the common trait--that all successful people have is that they are RHINOS! Don't believe me? Then buy the book, read it and then study successful people and see if they all don't have this Rhino quality.

Then after you do that, read the book again and become a Rhino yourself!

I can't explain it in terms for those of you who may be a cow yet, you need to get this to even comprhend the comments I have for this book. I now realize that I'm not alone. I always was a Rhino, till I was done with college and started my career and became a cow. This book was refreshing to my soul to bring the Rhino back to my two inch thick skin that was holding on to a cow as the book will explain. A must read for those who are in need of a spiritual refresher. I have read many books in my life, but this was the most inspiring book I've ever had the pleasure to read. It's also a very quick read. I read it and still keep going back to read it. Wendy Heinz

Information is As relavent today as it was then! I went out and purchased a rhino necklace after reading this book, oh and the second book. I gobbled up this book in one sitting! AMAZING, most motivational book i've ever read (i've read quite a few) certain authors appeal to certain people THIS AUTHOR APPEALS TO ALL. There is a very slight christian insertion maybe 3 pages of the entire book, but it does not affect the books quality or impact. If your a christian, you'll love it that much more; if your not, it's as easy to skim over.

This book was recommended to me by one of my students. I was apprehensive at first because the premise sounded funny but once you understand "the way of the rhino" it makes perfect sense. Quick read with tons of nuggets to use in your daily life. The idea of getting out of your rut and charging at all aspects of your life is very motivating and awe-inspiring. Must read for those that need a change in their lives (and at some point we ALL need that).

I first read this and the sequel Advanced Rhinocerology when I was going through some hard core training and trying out for a very elite community. The advice and explanations of cow vs rhino opened my eyes to the world in a way I had never knew possible. The author paints clear pictures of the world and allows you to make the choice. If you are a rhino you are then given all of the ammunition needed to get through anything in life. This book finds a way to take a boring subject and make it realistic and enjoyable. The images have stayed with me through many hardships. Recently my daughter got her own copy and as a teenager she was able to understand the importance of believing in yourself, not being content just being one of the cows, and truly makes her believe she could do anything. As a father anything that can help my child with issues like that is worth everything I own. If your in any type of situation requiring you to face things that you may not always feel comfortable with, this book will help you overcome those concerns. The carry over in your personal life is just an added blessing.

What a stupid book. It was free to me, thank goodness. I'm not familiar with the author, but with the way this book reads, I think he must have a 7th grade education. Apparently, there are 2 types of people: rhinos and cows. If you are not an overachieving type A person (rhino) you are a lazy cow, and are doomed to mediocrity. There ya have it. Save your $$

Scott uses the metaphor of being a rhino to make his point that success people attack problems and opportunities. It seemed logical enough to me, most of the successful people I know are take charge type of people, and who do not procrastinate.

The book is easy to read, and some parts are fairly humorous. This is not deep stuff, however. If you've read anything by Zig Ziglar, Anthony Robbins, etc., you've heard these lessons before, only in a diffrenet format. Hats off to Scott, however. Not a bad job for a kid (23 year old).

You may also want to read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill and "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth" by Phillip Collinsworth.

It's hard to believe this book was written over 30 years ago and that it's message rings truer than ever before. It seems like we have to contend with so many cows in our day-to-day business, education, and government environment. We need some Rhinos to get things done, with audacity and movement.

This book carries similar motivating points as Seth Godin's latest e-publication, "Poke the Box". It is a brief, easy read for those feeling a bit down and needing a swift kick-in-the-pants. I would highly recommend this book to others for their personal development.

Who are these people giving this book 5 stars? I had this on my "to read" list due to it being one of Dave Ramsey's recommended books. I got this a Christmas present and let's just say that this is no way a 5 star book.

It reads more like a long magazine article and not anything like other success / leadership books I have read. It is a very short read and doesn't really add anything that you shouldn't already know. Now if you had never reads books by such authors as Daniel Lapin or John Maxwell or for that matter many books at all, then perhaps this is a good first time book.

The writer wants you to be a rhinoceros (mentally anyway) and I kept thinking that he would end the imagery after a few chapters, but no it goes on and on and on. One of the worst books I have ever read.

I bought this book in the bargain section of the book store because it looked so funny to me. Some the advice in the book was good and some of it bad, but nothing in it was enlightening or something that I hadn't heard in other places.
The premise of the book is that you should go through life imagining that you are a rhinoceros. There are many funny pictures of rhinos doing funny things like holding on the mast of a ship during a storm, skiing, wallowing in a mudhole, accompanied by pithy sayings to the effect that you should hang in there (on the ship in a storm), open a ski resort if you like skiing and making money (skiing picture), and give yourself one week a year to relax (wallowing).
The book encourages would-be rhinos to charge life's problems and let nothing get in the way of their goals.
The book is better suited as a go-get'em cheer than an actual philosophy for life. I was not surprised to learn that a 23 year old guy wrote the book given its simplistic philosophy.
I recommend this book to people who are a little down on life, want to energize themselves, and don't like to read (it is a quick read) or think too much.

A great book to start with as the author references other books which are excellent references for additional reading on related topics of motivation. The author does a great job presenting his philosophy in an entertaining and engaging manner.

Rhino success is one if not the best book written with the most "audaciuos" postive influence. It makes you really think about your own life and what you have to offer yourself and others. I reccomend this book for many reason...one being it makes you feel good. Put a $100 bill in your pocket...I dare you, you WILL feel powerful. I have shared this book with 30 or more people and they loved so will you. Enjoy! so Scott if you read this contact me, would love to share with you. Kelli Pettit (Alexander) [email protected]

Scott hit the nail on the head with this one. In fact, even though this is from the 1980's, this book should be redistributed RIGHT NOW! A MUST READ for ANY MBA student willing to actually USE their MBA education.

This author is full of crap why do people believe someone who has zero expertise in science or human biology. This author probably believes that you can cure cancer by just telling yourself you don't have it. Don't buy this book or even look at it. This book is total horse excremental.

This book, and the entire series of Rhino Success books, are delightful. Scott's methods for success simplify the countless other success theories into the basic reality of action. With a spiritual side, he is direct and honest about what it will take to succeed and that it just isn't for everyone. An excellent approach!

This book is in my top 5 favorite books of all time. It's fun, and never boring! You will learn that you definitely want to be a rhino, and not a cow! You will want to re-read it every year, just because you enjoyed it so much. You will find yourself telling your friends about this book!

Things I needed to read to refocus where I was going. This book helps you to get your head in the game, set your mind to what you want. Do you want to keep plodding along as usual or break out and do more? How bad do you want it?

If you were stranded in the jungle and only had one book to read, THIS WOULD HAVE TO BE IT.
Stop being a cow and just order it! You will never know or understand the true pleasures of life until you wake up one morning and discover that you are a 3 TON SNORTING, STOMPING, CHARING RHINO - ready to face the world - and LOVE IT!
KEEP CHARGING!

Rhinoceros Success is a fun, odd little book with the basic philosophy of "full speed ahead!" for life. While that sort of simplicity can be refreshing sometimes, it can also become glib very quickly. The author, Scott Alexander, preaches this 'take no prisoners' attitude throughout the book, touting it as the surest path to wealth and success. However, there is no discussion of the ethics, personal sensitivity and discretion necessary to the success of even a "Rhino." The book is the notable effort of a fresh college grad, but it's neither deep nor thorough. Another reviewer had the right idea; stick with Wallace Wattles or Napoleon Hill for books on prosperity and success.

When I first started this book it seemed kinda crazy; talking to me as though I'm a rhino. But the more I read the more I loved it and it totally made sense. It's a fun book and an easy read and I honestly think everyone should own it. I'm glad I purchased it and would probably read it again. =)

A strange little book about "charging ahead. It has basic principles like having a belief in God, no debt, positive attitude, and an "attitude of success." It's all about having momentum in whatever you do. The message was clear: don't be like everyone else and have a "winning" attitude.

I purchased this product for a motivational retreat. It was very entertaining, informational, and easy to read. It was just the right length. The author gave very basic keys to success with a light hearted presentation.

I was given this book by a sales manager wearing a disturbing rhino tie tack.

The book might be of use if your sales staff was made up of six year olds. It is a painfully simple read with some silly pictures and nice big print.

Nothing innovative or inspiring here.

I read this book out of pure frustration that I had actually paid American dollars for this product and felt the need to get my money's worth.

I'm wondering why in the world that this is required reading for employees of Dave Ramsey (which was the only reason I purchased the book in the first place)? Was this book actually motivating for someone? I know that Ramsey calls the book silly in the foreword and that was being generous.

This book (and I use that term loosely) is just pure and utter garbage. I thought the rhino analogies would be toward the beginnig of the book and eventually end with actual good advice for self-development. Nope. The analogies just keep coming and get worse and worse.

Do yourself a favor and be a rhino and run the other way from this book.

I am pretty positive, that the author has paid someone to give his tripe good ratings. Incoherently written for 5 year olds with no motivation other than "you are a rhino, now run!" , this book almost made me weep at the state of modern literature. I recommend reading first pages in the preview to see what a worthless piece of crap this is.

This is a self-help motivational book written by an unbeliever, or someone that thinks he is saved when he is not. Regardless I do not recommend any born again Christian to read this book. Instead get Success Gods Way instead which has a Biblical foundation and teaches what true success really is "doing what God has called you to do, and being what God has called you to be." Setting Godly goals, and using money Gods way. Charles Stanley's book is far better!

I read the book and found it an amusing and fairly motivational. I started following Scott Alexander on facebook and realized that he is extremely intolerant of minorities and rails against colleges and formal education as "cesspools of liberalism". He constantly makes fun of and is racist towards Barack Obama and if you look at all of his followers you'll see his true color (White racist america). I returned my book and encourage everyone else to to do the same.

I've read several books on motivation and money management. I really didn't think this book was worth the money. It was a pep talk that was not effective in my opinion. Several other books that I've read are much better. I would not recommend purchasing it.
