I found myself having a harder time liking these characters. Everyone from the sisters to the mother seemed to have very odd relationships. Call me old fashion or whatever but I had a total ick moment when Nina went right from one guy to the other. Don't want to give too much away. This is the last of the Blackberry Island books but a spin-off is coming that involves where the married sister lives. Can't wait for the next book.

Barefoot Season is my favorite book in ths trilogy but Evening Stars is a good book. The characters are confronted by people and situations from their past and have to navigate through their emotions and relationships to find happiness. There is some romance and also a peek at characters from past stories :) Evening Stars is an emotional story with humor and love; a sweet conclusion to the Blackberry Island books.

I enjoyed this book very much. The lead character is Nina Wentworth, who finds herself being responsible for her family. Through no fault of her own, she has always been the one who handled anything that needed doing. And frankly, she is growing tired of it, but doesn't know how to break the cycle. Then suddenly, something comes into their lives that can change the future. But do they risk it?
As always, Susan Mallery's books grab you and keep you there until the end. I definitely recommend this book.

I always enjoy reading anything by Susan Mallery. She's one of my "regular" authors I read. I have enjoyed the Blackberry Island series, and this book is no exception. The characters seemed "real" to me. I thought Averil was sort of a whiner, but she came to her senses and did the right thing. Kudos to Nina for (finally) following her dream!! I enjoyed Bonnie and Bertie the most, I think! Not really sure why, but I did! Wouldn't it be awesome to find a treasure like that!! Good job, Susan!!! Thank you!

A great finale to the Blackberry Island series. A complex family dynamic makes Nina and Averil the people they are now. Susan has a way of making her characters come alive and I feel like I really know them. Nina gave up her dream to help her mom and sister and had to take a good long look at her life to realize that she was using that excuse to avoid change.

Once again Susan Mallery hits a home run with this story. With the daughter that feels like she "must" take care of everyone in her family to the irresponsible mom that never grew up. This is a wonderful story that takes you through the unique dynamics of a family and the challenges of not realizing your dreams. The story has a predictable ending but I enjoyed the story very much. I like to have happy endings! Read the book. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I really enjoy how Susan Mallery takes the time to develop her characters so that we care about each of them by the time the story is done. I always have to read her books in as few sittings as possible. The Blackberry Island stories have always been a favorite of mine and this one is no different. I think we can all see some of Nina in ourselves, taking care of others instead of ourselves. I know I've wondered about the paths not taken in my own life, and I loved seeing NIna's journey.

I really loved this story. These are people who are flawed, quirky, unique and lovable at the same time. This is Nina’s story, about her love of family, about revelations about herself and the people she loves, figuring out what (and who) she really wants. Her sister Averil also needs to find her way and where her true path leads. I finished it with a smile and a yea! Wonderful story Ms. Mallery!

My heart went out to Nina right from the beginning…The responsibilities she had to take on at such a young age seem just unbelievable! I wanted to smack her Mom off the side of her head with a two-by-four many, many times and I am not a violent person!
As a mother myself, I found it hard to believe that someone would actually be this way with her children, but you never know what can happen in this world...The story was a little slow at times, but got moving along again quickly.
Overall, another great story by Susan Mallery!

I was not disappointed in Susan's latest book in the Blackberry Island series. You can't help but be drawn into the storyline and the family dynamics of Nina's relationships with her mother and sister. The characters were so relatable that I found myself doing some self-reflection. And it was also good to catch up with other characters from the earlier books in the series. You will enjoy!

The story didn't get my interest at all. Normally I like books about sisters but this one seemed tired and dull. The love triangle didn't spark my interest. Normally I like Susan Mallery books, but not this one. I gave up reading at about page 140 and gave the book away.

I enjoy Susan Mallery's books because they run deeper than your average "fluffy" romance. Her characters always have depth, and in Nina in Evening Stars that is definitely the case. This is a story that will make you laugh, cringe, and pull for Nina and the two men that pursue her. The story is engaging and you will keep turning the pages to see how the family story plays out.

I loved going back to Blackberry Island and catching up with characters we met in earlier Blackberry Island books! This is a great story of a dysfunctional family and how each one grew and became the person they were meant to be. So many can identify with Nina and her life. Blackberry Island is the kind of place we would all like to live in!

The finale to the Blackberry Island trilogy did not disappoint! It was a wonderful story of family dynamics, old loves, new loves and just plain fun!
The relationship between Nina and her sister had me, at times, feeling sorry for Nina and then at times feeling sorry for Averill. Their mother is lovable yet flaky and irresponsible. The love triangle was great, but I'm not sure Nina ended up with the right one. Loved it anyway!

Another good book by Susan Mallery. Nina the oldest sister gave up a lot of dreams to stay and take care of things on island.
Enter two men and her boring life changes. With her and her sister not always getting along you have usual family stuff going on. Then there is the mom who is sort of flakey, but she comes across some interesting finds and things change. Love it.

Another great entry into the Blackberry Island series from Susan Mallery. If you are a Fool's Gold fan, don't come into this series with the same expectations. While I love Fool's Gold, Blackberry Island is a little more cerebral. The characters tend to have a little more depth and a little less predictability, taking the series further than a fun beach read. From the beginning, when you meet Nina and all the sub-characters, you wonder how they will face their problems and come to terms with themselves, rather than who they will end up with. I recommend you give this series a chance; you will like the break in atmosphere and the plunge into deeper waters.

Another wonderful book by Susan Mallery. I love the way she writes her characters. You get to know why they are doing what they do. Nina and her sister Averil have taken different paths in life. Nina is a nurse and Averil writes for a magazine but they both want more. Averil comes to visit Nina to get away from her problems for a while. The sisters were both in a rut and came out stronger and much more confident. This is a fantastic book. I LOVED it! In Evening Stars, two sisters and their family learn how to cope with the way their lives have turned out and where to go from here. I loved the way Susan Mallery wrote the sisters as real people, they had emotions and challenges that everyone has probably faced. They aren't perfect but they make the best of what they have and go for their dreams. Susan Mallery's writting touched emotions that every sibling deals with.

Evening Stars is the 3rd book in Susan Mallery's Blackberry Island series. This series is a little more serious in tone than other Mallery series (such as Fool's Gold). It deals more with serious family and personal issues with a little romance. Evening Stars deals with 2 sisters in a dysfunctional family, trying to find their feet as adults. The older sister became the responsible mother figure to the more flighty younger sister, and those roles have remained intact as adults, to the detriment of both sisters. A great read and it tugs on the heart strings.

The other Blackberry Island novels read at a faster pace than this one, but once you get further through the book, it picks up. The real story is more about Nina finding her own way than focused on a search for true love. Nina has spent most of her life raising her daughter and mother because her mother wasn't enough of an adult to do it herself, sacrificing her dreams for perceived duty. Just when Nina gets the opportunity to run a little loose by meeting a younger man who has thought of her as his childhood fantasy, her first love arrives back in town. He is just as tied down to duty by returning home. And suddenly, Nina's life isn't as routine and boring as she thought.

Love, love, LOVED it! I was lucky enough to read the ARC thru the bookstore I work at. I would definately reread this one! A few times I was getting to a good part (no spoilers, sorry) and Id have to go to work or i was so tired I couldnt keep my eyes open, and I wanted to just keep reading. And I would say that its not just a romance....it was like a family drama on tv. You just cant wait to see what happens next! And what I really like about the Blackberry Island novels is you can read them out of order because each one is its own story but also mentions characters from the other 2 novels with enough to understand who they are in the story. Highly recommended :)

I really enjoy reading Susan Mallery's books. This one was different from most of the others and had me thinking throughout the book. All of the characters are in a place where they are pressed to face their personal fears and failures and I was very curious to see what they would realize about themselves in the end and how they would use the information. I even gained some personal insight and that was fun. This book was engaging and very enjoyable. I recommend it.

I love everything Susan Mallery writes, and Evening Stars is no exception. The Blackberry Island trilogy is not her usual romance format. The characters are more real, with real life problems. Nina is the caretaker of the family, sacrificing her dreams of becoming a doctor to stay home to be the stabilizing influence on her mom, and so her younger sister could escape. Her life is turned upside down when her sister returns home to write a book and figure out what is wrong with her marriage. Nina's first love returns to the island, and she is still drawn to him along with younger man, a Navy fighter pilot. You pull for each of the characters work through their insecurities, problems, etc. Of course there is a happy ending! A very enjoyable read, and I am sorry this is the last book in the series!!

This was the first book I read of this series for Susan Mallory. I love her style as a writer because she gets to the very heart of who we are as women - as humans. We all know a Nina (responsible older sister, insecure and proud) and we all know the assorted characters - or wish we did. Mallory writes with a wit and imagination that takes us a little step away from our average day jobs and into a realm that is believable, heartwarming, funny, and slightly unreal. But we are drawn into the story because we want it to real - we laugh, we hope, we are Blackberry Island residents.
Frankly, I don't want to give away too much of the story, but I encourage you to take a quick trip to a lovely island with some quirky characters. It's definitely worth the trip.

Using a light touch and quirky circumstances, Mallery makes us root for the Wentworth sisters as they face the consequences of past decisions and learn to trust in their dreams. A satisfying read that makes you both sigh over what might have been and realize how important it is to take responsibility for your choices.

This series is more about family than a romance book. It does have romance, but the sisters strained relationship is a big part of the story. Evening Star’s is a unique book. It made me sad that Averil and Nina had such a hard time communicating throughout the book, even though it all works out in the end. I thank God my own mother is not flakey and irresponsible like Bonnie. The whole book made me think a lot about the dynamics of my own family and makes me appreciate them all the more. So, a very good read and I enjoyed the characters because they were so different.

Susan has told us a wonderful story of love lost and love found and the complexity of a family. This book also had me thinking how we may perceive things differently than others do. Although this was an enjoyable read, like others, I had difficulty connecting with the main characters. I found this more of a chick lit story than a fun romance. I think I was just looking for something lighter. Still this features a strong female lead who finds a happy ending. A good vacation read but not as fun as my Susan Mallery Fool’s Gold favorites.

In this final installment in the Blackberry Island series, Susan Mallery brings us two sisters that are struggling with the paths their lives have taken. Mallery's books are a wonderful mix of reality and fantasy- things start out tougher than they might in a typical life but by the end the characters have created a believable and satisfying resolution. From the fabulous beginning where the heroine has mom problems, money problems, car trouble and an encounter with an old flame through all kinds of challenges, she brings you through an exciting series of ups and downs to a wonderful ending. Really a great book.

This story is about Nina Wentworth and her struggles in dealing with her family. She is the oldest and feels the need to take care of everyone around her. Her younger sister who can't seem to get her life together. Her mother who has never been much of a mother. Also, she has her own life to deal with. It is a story about learning to let go and letting others face their own problems and consequences whatever they may be.

This is a singularly unexciting read. As a beach book, it's liable to just lull you to sleep. Mallory fans will undoubtedly insist on reading this, but others should read the author's earlier books to find her at her best.

Another great story by Susan Mallery! The story dives into the relationships between two sisters and their mother, and how those relationships change over time. Of course, there are also love stories woven in, with happy endings all around. I can't wait for the Mischief Bay series.

Again Susan Mallery gives us a thought provoking book about family problems and strife with each other. Enter two men who want the same woman. Couldn't put it down as every chapter brings new problems and dynamics to the story. Worth reading.....makes you smile, laugh and cry!

I really enjoyed Susan Mallery's Evening Stars. It was a bit slow to start, but then picked up as it went along. I became caught up in not only Nina's but Averil's story and Cindy's. I was very happy with the way the book ended, but felt that the relationship with Dylan needed to be a bit clearer along the way. It kind of jumped. I would definitely read it again. I can't wait to read the next one!

While there is romance in the story, it's more about how a dysfunctional family deals with each other. Nina has always been the caretaker of the family and this shows her journey to put herself and her needs ahead of her sister and mom. Lots of twists and unexpected outcomes. Not the usual story told by Susan Mallery, but still great!

Susan Mallery continues the Blackberry Island series with yet another Fantastic story. Even though it is from a series, it is a stand alone book. So if you have never read a Mallery book....ENJOY. If you have read one or more of her many books, you will not be disappointed.

Susan Mallery always writes a great book and here is another one.
Relationships with friends, family, community and romance are all explored. And explored well if you must ask! Not to give anything away, but sometimes it's refreshing to discover we are the only thing holding us back and that we're loved as we are. Love this book!!!

I chose this book because the review sounded interestingly. I wasn't disappointed, the plot was interesting and moved back and forth between the different family members, and kept my full interest throughout. I liked how each person changed as the story played out. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Usually I love Susan Mallery's books, but I really wasn't impressed with this one. It wasn't much of a romance. There was too much drama with Nina and her mother. Her mother was so immature that I just wanted to shake her.

Mallery has created another small town that sucks you in & makes you dream of going there. Her characters are vivid and complex. Their lives involve familial conflict and the resolution. You find yourself rooting for the main character to follow her dream. Although this is the third in the Blackberry Island series, it can be read as a standalone without feeling lost. The question is, will Mallery create another trilogy on Blackberry Island? If so, it could rival her Fool’s Gold series!

Susan Mallery's Evening Stars is an interesting story on a family relationship and failed dreams. The story of a mother and 2 grown up daughters shows how each person sees the same past in very different ways. It also shows how sometimes we stand in our own way in finding happiness and love. Glad that the sisters find a way to deal with their past and handle the present.

Evening Stars is a wonderful book!!! I love reading a book about an entire family. You get a story about mom and her partner, Averil and her husband, Nina and her men, and all the wonderful family dynamics you will love to hear about. You will not be disappointed!

I haven't read a Susan Mallery book that I didn't love! The character is Evening Stars are good, kind people struggling with professional, personal, and relational problems. One never knows where the story will take you on Blackberry Island. I couldn't wait to get to the end to discover who, if either, of the men Nina would choose. Would Nina break away from the comfort of home? Would Averill get over herself and move forward with her marriage? All the questions are answered in a realistic storyline.

While always a fan of Susan Mallery’s writing, I particularly loved Evening Stars. It is so much more than just a love story. As someone from a large family, I enjoyed the interplay between the family characters in this novel. The dynamics between the sisters and the needs of the mother make this story a great read.

I absolutely loved this books. Susan has a way of writing that when you finish a book, you start think of your own life and how you can make it better. If you don't learn something about your self from this book then you need to read it again.

More than a romance. Blackberry island is so different than Fools Gold but I enjoy both series. This was my favorite Blackberry Island book. I liked the story between Nina, her mother and her sister. The triangle between Kyle, Dylan and Nina was a fun.

This was such a good story, happy and sad at the same time. Having to be mom to her younger sister, and a flighty mom who knows how to buy junk. Not to mention, not one but two men from your past wanting you (sigh).

Another good slice of small-town modern American life. What made it special is that the characters were flawed, and quirky, but oh -so likeable. It was a warm, funny story of how we meet the challenges in life that can help us grow up or just grow older.

Susan Mallery really gets the complexity of sisters and unique family dynamics. Enjoy reading about Nina and Averil as they try to navigate their relationship with each other as well as their romantic ones. These characters who struggle to remain true to themselves are a delight! It will make you want to call your own sister just to catch up!

Love Susan Mallery and the Blackberry Island series, but this book seemed slow to me. Maybe that was cause I couldn't relate the characters. I was hoping for more romance and not as much whining. Was hoping for a better read for the final book in the series. Nonetheless I do love Susan and look forward to reading her next book.

Evening Stars is the 3rd of her Blackberry Island series and as with all Susan Mallery books you get to see and hear about the characters you came to love in the earlier books but your focus is always on the new characters your discovering.

This was a whole different type of book for Susan Mallery that I did not expect. In this touching book we are forced to think about how we carry the choices and expectations of our own childhoods into our own own adulthoods, and how the forever effect us. I was pleasantly surprised by where this book took me,and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a great escape from the norm, and as always I look forward to the next visit, this time to Mischief Bay!

I loved to read this story about Nina. I laughed out loud at how dingy her mother was.
As I read about the crazy painting I imagined being in that situation and don't know what I would do. I really connected with Nina because it seems that I have to keep my family together as well and feel some of her same frustration.
I always seem to be able to connect with the characters of Susan's books.

Great book! Can't wait till the next one comes out. I sorely felt for Nina. Having to be the adult ... or choosing to be the adult. Her mother should be ashamed of herself and truly "grow up". I'm glad she ended up with Dylan too, although it was fun reading about her and her high flying boy toy too.
Thanks for the laughs!

i agree with many of the readers here the story was slow and the characters were a bit childish at time,
but guess what the story was good its always sad to see the end of a series and its easy to become frustrated when the story doesnt go the way you wanted it to. the book was a good one i would recommend this buck just like any of the other susan mallery books.

I am not surprised at all that Susan Mallery has done it again, written a book that I cannot put down! This was my least favorite Blackberry Island book.
The main characters are: Nina and Averil.
Nina the sensible sister, gave up her dreams to go to college to become a doctor so her sister could go to college and she resents her sister for it.
Averil, is a spoiled brat, who really doesn’t seem to know what exactly she wants to do with her life. It’s all me, me, me!!
I really wanted to tell both of the characters to grow up.

The conclusion to the Blackberry Island trilogy is as much about family dynamics and drama as it is about romantic love. I feel the backstories and tension between the main characters and supporting players are one of the things Susan Mallery does best. This book is no exception. I'm a big fan of her "Fool's Gold" series, and that led me to Blackberry Island. I'd highly recommend both.

Full disclosure, I'm a member of Susan Mallery's review crew, otherwise I would have completely skipped over this book. But since they sent it to me, I read it. I liked it better than the last one (that one had me crying just a few chapters in) but this series just isn't in my wheelhouse. It was well-written and the characters were realistic, but I had a hard time engaging with them.
