I bought this book despite reading all the reviews. I was tempted not to , but I aleady own all the others and wanted to complete my collection. This last book in the drake sister series was realistic considering elle's line of work. For me it was inevitable that one of them would come close to death. I did not expect however the rape part of it and found it difficult to accept. I felt the writer could of thought of another angle. This part of it did not enhance elle the main character who should have been all powerful in the story.
Despite this part I found the novel interesting and was happy I did not follow all the reviews and went out and bought the novel.

I always know I am in for a great read when I pick up a Christine Feehan. Hidden Currents is a Drake Sisters Novel and these are stand alone books, but I believe they are much better when read in order. This one is Elle Drake's story, the youngest of the seven sisters and the one that will carry on the legacy of the seven sisters. Elle is adept at undercover work and she is deep undercover when she is taken by a sadistic sadist and held captive and subjected to the worst kind of torture a human being can be subjected to. Back home Sheriff Jackson Deveau has always loved Elle, but never felt worthy of her and because of that, Elle took off on this last assignment. Now it is up to all of her sisters, their mates, and the town to band together to rescue her. Sheriff Jackson Deveau is in touch with Elle's mind and keeps sending her the same message live, live for him and live for the love they will have. When Elle is rescued, that is not the end of it. She has more than just scars on her body, she has deep wounds on her mind and it is up to Jackson to heal her so she will accept the full healing touch of her sisters and they must heal her, because the sadist has followed her home and has vowed to kill everyone she loves if she doesn't submit to his will. This book has everything you have come to expect from Ms. Feehan and her Drake Sisters series. Read and enjoy!

First of all I want to say that I am a huge fan of the dark series. I couldn't get enough and read them over and over. I wanted to try some of her other books and recently read Burning Wild, which I hated. This book was a second attempt to try her other books and it was even worse! I am so disapointed in Christine Feehan. She has strayed drastically from the writing that her fans so loved. These last two books were disturbing, and while there was a touch of this in some of the Dark series, this was just sickening! I agree with another reviewer, we read these to books to escape and enjoy a fantasy. We want to feel good when we read them, not feel sick. If Christine wants to write dark, evil tales then she shouldn't do it in the romance genre! This is not what romance fans have come to expect and love. I am just so sad she has chosen to take this path. Do yourself a favor, don't read this book!

The plot was very compelling. Definitely a page turner. By the same token, there was a lot of violence, specific to a woman. Necessary to the story? Yes. It made a stronger story but I throw out the caution.

If I could give this negative stars that's what it would get. When I pick up a book that's supposed to be a romance I don't expect to read rape and torture to this degree. Well, what a shocker I got from this book and it made me sick to read these scenes. This book went out with the trash before I even finished it. I found it degrading to any woman who has been raped and tortured and Feehan should be ashamed of herself. I won't be buying anymore from this author since I have been so disappointed with the ending of what had been a wonderful series. With this book she made them all trash for me and disappointed many readers. I'm done with this author.

I was so, so looking forward to reading Elle and Jackson's story. I usually buy Christine Feehan's books right off the shelf without even looking at the story or reading a few pages. But I was so disappointed with this story!! :(
Elle is written as an idiot ("Golly gee whiz, I'm gonna be a Super Spy!!! Nothing bad will ever happen to me and I'm not gonna listen to ANYONE!!!), the whole story and everything that happens to her is dark, depressing, and was TOTALLY avoidable. Jackson deserves better than this spoiled idiot.
The author could've done sooo much more with this story instead of ending this series with a such a depressing ending.
WHY did she write Elle like that or use such a depressing story??? Especially since this was the last book of the Drake Sisters series. :(

I couldn't wait for the next Drake Sisters book, but was extremely disappointed in this one! I even bought it brand new at retail price despite being unemployed. Money wasted that should have been used to put food on the table instead! All the others I couldn't put down! This one, I had to force myself to keep going! Of course if you enjoy extreme gory violence, mutilation, rape and the total degradation of a woman over and over and over again (through the first half of the book) then go ahead and waste your money! For the first time in all the years I've been reading, I was so disenchanted that I didn't even sleep well last night after finishing it! I have never, ever left this low of a review before, but feel I must share my opinion, even if it only saves one person who can't afford to waste their money or time, like I did! ~Peace~

I really was nervous buying this book because of all the bad reviews that I read, but like so many others I wanted to finish the series that I had really loved. This book was great. Yes there is a rape and torture, but it was nothing like what I expected based on the reviews (which I was really happy about). Elle had been one of my least favorite sisters, but after reading this book she became one of my favorites. I thought the characters were great and how the events played out were inventive. It is definitely worth reading. I'm really glad that I finished the series and didn't let those bad reviews sway me into not finishing it.

I have read alot of christine feehans books practially all of them now. I think she is very bold to write about topics that others dodge, rape is hard and i do know this. But it is different for everyone and can be over come! me personally my motto is yeah it sucks but im not going to let it rule the rest of my life. it is alot more common than people think and bringing it out in to the open is bold yes, but i think it is opening peoples eyes.
These characters are totally fictional but they feel alive for me and it proves that life isnt gentle or fair, bad things happen to good people and i think christine did a beautiful job on portraying this. anything can be over come especially when you have someone strong behind/ besides you like Jackson is for Elle. I think when they finally slept together it was Elles decision and rape can be seperate from choosing to sleep with someone yourself in peoples mind.
I will say that this may not be everyones type of book but writing about the good and the bad and all the inbetween makes the story better for me.
loved it and certainly cant wait for Water Bound which will be the next in the series :)

Like many other reviews already expressed - I so looked forward to this book. What a huge disappointment!! No way in this world could any woman go through what Elle went through and have sex within days of her rescue!! And the rape and torture were gruesome beyond imagination. I understand that is reality - but one of the biggest disappointments is the lack of Elle defending herself effectively once she was freed. I kept waiting for her to get some of her own back in kicking this guys butt....however, it never happened. As for her and Jackson, big yawn. Not at all up to par with the rest of the books - which I absolutely loved. Too bad this was such a weak book after 6 really good ones before it.

I waited for the 7th sister's story all thru the 1st 6 books. There was such a build up to this book, was hard to wait for it. WOW-what a disaster. I am not into torture for pages on end to begin with, but this was beyond YUK. Not what I read a romance novel for. Would not recommend this book to anyone. Stick with the 1st 6 and your good.

I'm sorry but I have been looking forward to Elle's story for a long time and was really disapointed. I don't know why Feehan is going to such dark places in her books but it is just depressing. What a terrible way to end a series, by having someone abducted, raped and beaten. If I want to read about rape and torture I will read true crime novels not a romance novel.
And if Feehan decides to start a series around Ilya's brothers I don't know if I will read, how can I fall in love with a hero if he stood by and let his brother's sister in law get raped and beaten. I don't care how Feehan tried explaining it in Hidden Currents.

After having read the majority of the Drake series, which i'm only missing 1-2 books, I am utterly sickened by what I read from the last that I may not even pick them up and pack off what I've currently got! I tend to re-read my books and I don't know that I'd ever want to re-read this!
Feehan seems to be championing a cause that really doesn't belong in the romance genre. Rape is not something that should be so easily glossed over. Even having a strong loving man and supporting friends and family by their side a rape victem can not so easily get over what has been done to them. Especially the continued brutal abuse and torture Elle went through. Time truely heals but the emotional scars from such actions take years and never truely go away.
The Carpathian series, Game series, and now Drake series have all had women that have been raped, each being more graphic than the other. If there are more then I've not read them yet and really hope I don't!
I don't expect my heroine and hero to have an easy time getting together in the end. I don't expect either character to be virgins, but to add such content in this manner is in such bad taste. Put an author's note in the front where I can make a donation to an organization that helps victems of sexual abuse.
I'm well aware the world is not always a safe place. I read to escape such horrors.

I definitely was intrigued and enjoyed every bit of this book. I liked how it was darker and more disturbing (in certain parts) than her other Drake series. I liked this injection of real life and how the author informed us about the issue of human trafficking. Jackson's character was just enough dominant and Elle was such a likable character. Once again Feehan is a master at letting you in the head of the character, what motivates them what makes them-them. I'm sorry to hear that the Drake series is finished, but I loved how she introduced the possibility of other psychic lines. Maybe Illya's brother will have a story.

After reading her Leopard book I thought Feehan was getting to be a bit violent. But this book took the cake-why the abuse and rape-the story could have taken another direction and been fantastic.
It 's a very sad ending to this series-how could Elle come home and have sex within a few days? Why couldn't she be with her sisters -who would be more understanding about her trauma? Feehan's trend toward these violent sexual scenes has made me take her off my list of authors to read. She is becoming way too "DARK" for my taste.

Stop reading the Drake Sisters series at BOOK 6! I have never been so angry and disappointed after reading a book in my life! I could not even leave this book in my house! After reading it, I left my house and threw it in the dumpster!
Mrs. Feehan took the brutality TOO FAR! Rape and Torture...Seriously?
Elle's "recovery" was unrealistic and unbelievable. This series was quite enjoyable up to book 7. It makes me sad that the last book ruined the entire series for me.

the book had me on edge every step of the way. Each page hold u strongly that it was hard to put it down at times but then everythin Christine Feehan writes does that. She writes these incredible books with ideas u wondered about or wish u had especilly when it come to the hero or heroine in the story. Thank Christine for your books. I can't wait to read another.

This book was hard for me to read. The day I got it from my pre-order someone I know was involved in domestic abuse. After the long day filled of thoughts about that, I went home to soak in my new, long-awaited book to find it was a continuation, somewhat, of the long day I wanted to leave behind.
In some parts, the text was almost preachy about how victims should view themselves. There was a definite feel of an external POV coming through the writing. In much of the story, I felt the effects of the abuse was romanticized to bring the couple together.
It's a shame the series ended on such a sour note.

I don't offend easily but this book managed to do it. What on earth was Ms. Feehan thinking? There was absolutely no need for the extreme graphic violence. I also wonder what her editors were thinking. How did they let this slip by in what's supposed to be a nice little romance series. I'm disappointed, both in the content and, as others have mentioned, the abrupt ending with little payoff for those of us who have read all of the series. Ms. Feehan, you have lost a fan here. I won't be buying any more of your books.

The begining of Hidden Curretns is beyond dark. It was horrible, it was diffcult to read. Reading it though everyone knew Jackson and Ellie's sisters were going to save and fix her in the end. My biggest problem with the book was the ending. I felt like the whole book was rushed to finish up the series. IT was a real disappoinment to have the series end in a chapter. Feels like something was missing from this book.
The bad guys being taken out by gas....WTF.
I just don't know. I hope that the next DARK book does not disappoint as much as this one.

I have been waiting for this book, as in literally counting the days, since early April. And, it was well worth the wait. I know that some will take issue with the darker, violent, downright painful storyline, but to me it was so very well done. Bad things happen to good people. People we love. People who least deserve it. This is more than true of Elle. No one deserves what happened to her. But even with all of that, this very much remains a love story.
I have gone back over the previous six books in this series, and I had believed that I had a handle on the characters of Elle and Jackson. And while they have been featured to one extent or another in all of the stories, I realized in this book that I didn't know them at all. Especially, it must be said, the character of Jackson was a true revelation. I loved him, and I loved him and Elle together. We finally hear their story from the beginning, and it is at times sad, painful, frustrating, joyous and funny.
My one complaint about this series was that as each subsequent book was released, some of the sisters were pushed into the background. If there was a "star" throughout the series, it always seemed to be Hannah. In this, the final chapter of the Drake sisters, Sarah, Kate, Abby, Libby, Joley AND Hannah shine, and each helps to heal and protect Elle. Each plays a pivotal role, and so to do their men. I missed these characters, and I was very happy to see them all again. And while I will miss the series, I was very happy at how it ended, and of course, Ilya does have those brothers to find...

I just finished reading "Hidden Currents" and I thought it was fantastic. I had been so looking forward to Elle and Jackson's story and I can say that I was not in any way disappointed. I appreciated how Feehan used her novel as a platform to bring attention to human trafficking that's occurring every single day in our society. There were scenes that were hard to read because of their brutality but I made myself get through it because if human trafficking is not talked about the problem will never get solved. I enjoyed how we got to see the story behind who Jackson is and what had happened to him to make him such a calculated killer. Elle and Jackson's story was lovely and heart warming and the ending was what I had hoped for, so I'm very pleased with this book. I read on Feehan's website that this is the last book in the Drake Sisters Series and I was sad to see that because I have enjoyed each sister's journey and I will miss them greatly. However, I just recently found out via Feehan's website that she is creating a new series titled "Water Bound" which will be the stories about Illya's six brothers and according to her site the first book is due out sometime next year. I was quite overjoyed when I read this because I realized that we're not done hearing about the Drake Sisters quite yet and it will be interesting to see what magical gifts the other brothers have.

A lot of the reviews criticized this book for the rape scenes at the beginning. First of all, it's over by pg 70 (out of 421pgs) so it is by no means 1/3 of the book. 2nd of all, as bad as it is, I've certainly read much worse. 3rd of all, the experience balances what Elle had done for Jackson in the past when he was prisoner. What happens bonds them. The rest of the story is fantastic. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that Elle does seem to overcome the sexual abuse to be with Jackson a little quickly. Truthfully, I almost gave back the star because what happened to her is more torture (even the rape was more torture than rape).
If you are uncomfortable with the torture (because we don't actually see the rape, but she describes it well enough), read chapter 1, then start reading the book again at chapter 4. The rest of the book is worth it.

I have read most of the reviews for this book and strongly disagree!!!! This book was outstanding.
I couldn't put it down and read it in 12 hours. Don't believe the reviews and make up your own mind. I ignored them and bought the book anyway and am so glad.
I have read everything this author has in print and am delighted by the detail and the end of the series.
For those of you who didn't like this book.....you should go back to reading Nora Roberts who is fabulous but predictable. Feehan's work is evolving and I feel the reviews were harsh and inaccurate.
The detail in this book is amazing and brings all of the others together. She briefly touches on all of the characters from the other six books and has done an amazing job with Jackson and Elle's characters. Yes, It was darker than the rest but everything she writes shouldn't be about sunshine and rainbows. This book made me laugh, cry, and gasp as I turned the pages. What more could a reader ask for?
The rescue scene, scientific details, and the supernatural references were all believable and entertaining. She did her homework on this one and it shows.
I am sorry others didn't enjoy this book as much as I did but it is worth reading over and over again. If you enjoy any of Feehan's other books buy this one and make your own mind up. I loved it!

This book had a great mix of paranormal and human emotions and made you feel what they all were going through the characters had great depth and warmth and anger, it made you feel every lash every blow and then every triumph and the love that defines this family. This a sign of a great written book.
Now I have read alot of the reviews and disagree with alot of them, you don't have to have a bubble gum happy ending to every series it ends up all being same ole same ole and by writing Elle's story she was actually showing the strength of each character and how strong they are together.
Needless to say I hate to say good bye to the Drake's but I have to say it's been a heck of a ride!

This book is getting some interesting reviews. You HATE it or LOVE it! I am rather leaning towards Love it! I read over 15 books a month (and yes still work full time) and I am tired of the 'Formula' books! VERY VERY hard to find a book that stands out and Hidden Currents Does!!!
Everyone has written about the first part of the book! That was the BEST part of the book! Yes it was intense but so is life! I love the new direction that Feehan is taking her books. I am so tired of cute happy ever after!
I must admit that Hidden Currents is about 100 pages too long. Why all the dribble on the town people in the middle of the book. And what a NICE man Jackson is... we know that. Would have liked to learn more about Gratsos and how/why he worked? Hopefully we will learn in the next set of books! And without giving it away, could the ending really work with the Yacht?
All and All a good read and hope Feehan keeps it up!

Everyone thinks that when children with Autism grow up they disappear--or become magically cured. As a grownup Autistic child, let me assure you, it doesn't happen. Typically, as much as you can, you craft an odd life for yourself filled with a few people that can understand or at least accept all the myriad ways you must control the sensory overload of daily life. This excellent book not only nails the minute-by-minute control required to live a daily "normal" life, but adds a great love story, good suspense and another visit to the wonderful town of Sea Haven and the lucky Drake sisters. I especially enjoyed the way the sensual aspect of the relationship was slow to happen and all the heartfelt responses by the lead male. Highly recommended for both an engaging love story and a peek at the other side.

So I started the series at the end but I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I loved each character , from Ell to Katie. and I loved the interaction between Jackson and Elle. They were meant for each other from the beginning. I couldn't put it down. and I am excited to read all the other ones in this series. I highly recommend this book and am a big fan of Christine Feehan!

In the beginning, I really enjoyed Ms. Feehan's writing and looked forward to buying and reading each new book. Over the course of time, though, the emphasis of her writing has shifted from romance, plot, and characters to describing explicit and often degrading sexual activity. This applies not to the Drake sisters' series, but to the Carpathian and leopard series as well. The shift is disappointing, and Hidden Currents is the last book by this author that I will buy.

Let me start by saying I love this series about the Drake sisters, I feel that there is a sister and a husband that everyone can enjoy and each story is unique and different in its own way. That being said this story is very graphic and sexually explicit, sometimes extremely. I found myself seriously skimming Elle's captivity until the rescue because I couldn't stand to know what had been done to her and what more would be done to her, it broke my heart. Despite that I think this is a story more about surviving these kinds of traumas. Tragically this sort of thing is common in some parts of the world and I'm glad we saw the real damage it does to the strongest of people.
I am very surprised by the low rating this book has received. There is so much love in this book. Between Elle and Jackson, Elle and her sisters and Elle and the town, and it made up for most of the unpleasantness that we read in the beginning. Love it or hate it, you can't deny that there was great writing here. The connections between the characters were probably the strongest for me in this book, the final book of this great series. Give it a chance, if you can get past the rough start, there is a good message behind what has happened here.

After looking forward to this book for quite some time, it left much to be desired. I have actually stopped reading Christine's books because I do not care for the disturbing twists she has been throwing into her books. It is really sad as her plots are so interesting, but her delivery is to offensive for romance...

Reading this book was like trying to listen to a record that is stuck at 0:13. While the overall idea of the book had its merits, there was a complete disconnect between the idea of the story and it's actual flow. Yes, it was a horribly tragic. Yes, it was hard to read. Yes, in the end good wins. But having the beginning of the book (with the abuse descriptions) slowly turn into the middle of the book (you know, when she described the abuse again) which then slowwwwwwly turned into the ending of the book (guess what, more abuse descriptions)...was like being stuck in the Small World ride for 300 pages. I get it, she was abused. Good premise. But, HELLO, sitting down to read 300 pages of abuse descriptions was not on my to do list for that day. Describe it and MOVE ON to the meat of the book. There was no meat in this story. It was the same thing over and over and over and OVER. While the last 20 pages were fairly good (albeit rushed, not horribly concise while rushed, and seemingly disconnected from the other 4/5 of the book), the book had NO chance of making up for the first 4/5. There were SO many other ways of creating a story with an abused heroine that would have had much more literary heart than the story that was created to end a very good series.
Very disappointed. I expected much more.

I agree with the other readers who found this one disappointing. And without giving away any plot points, what happens to Elle is deeply disturbing, and then seems to be dealt with way too quickly. She simply bounces back way too fast to be believable. Feehan seems to blow hot and cold; with 3 or 4 series running simultaneously and a book a year for each, I think she takes on too much. I hope the next GAME book is better than this one.

First I want to say I Have really enjoyed the Drake sisters series Untill this book. I would only suggest its reading to complete the series. I do agree with most of the negative ratings. Christine Feehan is a Great writer but this is not one of her best.

I have read every book that Christine Feehan has written and Hidden Currents was a huge let down. The first third of the book was very disturbing due to the rape and torture forced on the main character, Elle. Then the other two thirds of the book was a slapped together mess so that we'd get a happy (while totally unbelievable) ending. I'm not certain what the author was thinking not only with the story line but also with how poorly it was put together.
Main disappointments were:
1) Having to actually read about the month long rape of the main character. HELLO! This is supposed to be a romance book! Rape isn't sexy no matter what.
2) Having Elle sexually recover within a week which is totally unbelievable and made the love scene's with Jackson unbelievable and disturbing. This was really sad since I've been dying to read Elle and Jackson's story for years!
3) The author putting scene's in the book for the shock factor and they didn't add anything of real value to the actual story line.
4) Absolutely unbelievable death to the villian. What was the author thinking?
5) The author set up her next series and it sounds like she is going to continue on with this type of writing. At this point, I won't be reading the Water Bound series.
So, in a nutshell this book was a depressing end to an otherwise great series and confirms a disturbing direction that Christine Feehan appears to be going in.

after reading all of the sisters books i was so looking forward to the last in the series. i was so disappointed in the direction this book took about elle and jackson.i am glad she explained how jackson came to be like him but elle i hated it
the best part of the book the end when they all got married.

After looking forward to the conclusion of this series, I found I could not even get to page 100 in this book. I read books like these for enjoyment and escape - I don't want to read horrific scenes of rape and torture that really were more graphic that I needed. If I wanted to read such things, well, there's any newspaper in the world for that! I can't even comment on whether or not the rest of the book makes up for it because, frankly, I do not want to read any more. It's simply not going to make up for it.

Elle choice to work undercover to stop human trafficking places her in a deadly situation, one that takes all of her sisters magical abilities, their mens knowledge in special ops and Jacksons relentless and ruthless resolve to bring her home. Once she is home it takes the deep love that Elle and Jackson knew was there to face and deal with her trauma, not an easy task considering what Elle went through. Ms. Feehan chose to end the Drake Sisters series with a tough read, however, what shines through is that with courage, love and family you can survive anything. I hope those readers that found the violence too hard to read realize that there are women who have had to face this and this book will give them hope and courage to work through their personal trauma. I highly recommend this book.

You can't miss this book if you've read the others in the series and I do agree with others that this should not be the first book you read in the series. It's a great book and represents the power of all the Drake sisters - love, family, sisterhood, understanding, magic, community. Don't let other reviews that puts this book down because of what happens to Elle stop you from reading this. SKIP CHAPTER 3 if you don't want to read in detail what happens to her. For some it may be too tough to read. There is enough implication about what happened in the rest of the story that you'll get a good understanding without all the detestable details. And the rest of the story is very good.
Before reading this book, I really did not care about Elle and Jackson - only that their story would end the series. After reading it, I can't help but have them as my favorite couple because of what they went through. Elle is a great female character (understandably vulnerable and then she makes a come back that just makes you want to yell YEAH!) and Jackson --- I can't help but love him for what he does. All of the other sisters and their men also have parts in this story.
After my great disappointment with Hannah's and Jonas' story, I think Christine Feehan did a great job with this book. Hopefully, the author will revisit the Drake family in the future (maybe a future family reunion with all the kids please!).

I feel violated. I've read multiple Feehan books. And while they've sometimes gotten close to the line regarding male domination and quasi-rape fantasies, they've never crossed the line as badly as this book.
Elle is raped, humiliated, and tortured repeatedly and in detail in this book. Along with the on-page horrors, even worse apparently happened off-page.
Then, to add insult to injury, Feehan has Elle repeatedly have voluntary sex with another man within days of her rape and torture. Is she kidding? If I felt too wounded inside to have Elle sleep with someone, then how must Elle have been feeling? You can't erase rape trauma like that. Believe me. And Elle would have been so internally injured that shenanigans would have been impractical anyway (even after her sister did some basic healing). I'm not judging rape victims who choose to have sex again immediately to somehow wipe away the assault. But even women who choose that route aren't in a healthy place. It isn't as if sex immediately goes back to normal.
Also, Feehan made a point of letting us know that the bad guy had forced Elle to be aroused at some points of his rape (by a system of hurting and then soothing her that breaks the person down). But she sleeps with Jackson as if there's no consequences to that. As if being forced to enjoy the evil man's touch wouldn't make her feel revulsion every time she became aroused. And again, remember, this is DAYS later.
I know Feehan has a heart for stopping human trafficking. But putting the horrors of trafficking into a romance novel is both bad tactics, and totally unfair for the unsuspecting reader. I picked up this book for an enjoyable read after a hard days work, and now I feel sad, wounded, and gross. I strongly recommend Feehan's readers avoid this book, and let her know humiliation and rape aren't what we're looking for in paranormal romance.

What's up with these authors lately? Why is it rape and torture are now being used as plot devices in light reading? If that is where the muse is taking you, I suggest you start publishing in a different genre. First Kenyon, and now Feehan has jumped on the torment wagon. This isn't entertainment, it only makes me cringe. What a waste of money.

This book grabbed my heart from the first page and kept me reading. I finished it in a couple hours. Could not put it down! Elle and Jackson's story was the one I was waiting on and it didn't disappoint. It is very graphic and real not a typical romance novel but then again Christine Feehan's books are not your typical romance novels. Highly recommend it!! Elle and Jackson and tragic and irrisistable.
Don't miss this story because of the reviews here. Well worth the risk!

Hidden Currants tops off the Drake Sisters series in excellent fashion. It tells the story of youngest sister Elle and her soulmate Jackson but it features all of the other six Drakes and their romantic partners. It is written in Christine Feehan's usual gripping style with plenty of intrigue and action. You won't be able to put it down.

I was incredibly disappointed by the last two of the Drake Sisters books and this one just pushed the series over the edge. The series started out with a little mystery and danger but a lot of fun. The last three books have gotten progressively darker and more depressing. This book finished off this horrible trend with an unbelievable book. There is no possible way Elle could recover in days from being held captive, raped and beat on a daily basis for a prolonged period of time.

I've loved this series from the beginning. Now I wish I hadn't read it at all. Feehan managed to create a situation where the series ends in a disappointing and abrupt way. After having Elle suffer a month of rapes and torture she never actually seemed to have her work through it. I'm still not sure what Elle is really like. I was so disappointed that Feehan would torment the main character in the book like this. And the ending of the series just felt as if she were using it to transition to a new series based on the Prakenskii brothers. All in all, I wish I had not read this book and just kept the series incomplete. I could easily have thought of a much more satisfying and happier ending for Elle, Jackson, and all of the Drakes.

Christine Feehan took this series out with a BANG!! She hit the ground running and I was riveted from page one. Its dark and edgy and sooo not anything like her normal more sappy stuff. I never would of guessed she could write this well. I loved it!! ***spoil*** Yes there is kidnapping and rape and torture but it never made to be anything other than heart-wrenching and horrible experience. I am glad she didnt gloss over it or sugar coat it. I do wish she would of added some time for Elle to work through things instead of the entire book taking place in the span of a week or so. But even that things were happening so fast and I was so there with the characters I could let that go. I took one star for that alone. I was on the edge of the couch/bed clutching the book. I loved the way Jackson handled her and watching him struggle with the right words and behavior for her while dealing with his own crap was great. They fought with and for each other and neither backed down. I loved it.
I think it can be read as a stand along. Apparently its not for the faint of heart or those who dont like violence being described.

Ok so I know a lot of the reviews are bagging out what happened to Elle, yes it was devastating, but how else could Feehan have Elle and Jackson interract? Tortured himself it was Elle who saved him and so he can return the favour, also being as she is probably the most powerful sister all her powers couldn't save her, she could still be victimised. But the way she recovered with Jacksons help was inspiring, she didn't have the blame every man for what happened to her or the poor me victims pledge, she was a survivor and I really liked the way this book ended everything with the group wedding at the end. One of my favourite scenes other than Jackson teasing Elle with how he will be stirring up the girls just before bed for her to deal with was when all the sisters was when they used teh dogs connecting to score a hit back on the villain and how it was the men who conspired to finish the villain off, very funny the arguments.

I agree with the other reviewers in respects to the abuse that happens to the main character at the beginning of the book and the totally unrealistic things that follow. I can't imagine in a billion years a woman going from abuse so horrible she's trying to commit suicide to jumping into a sexual relationship within days. I did manage to finish the book, but beyond that major issue there were a number of others. I found the whole rescue unrealistic as well, and the same can be said for the bad guy's demise.
As others have pointed out there are huge unanswered questions and plot holes left to fill. I'm sure she'll be continuing the series with Ilya's brothers with the biker gang from Jackson's past the new recurring bad guy now that she's killed of the Reverend.
If you must finish the series, get it from the library.

Elle's story is sad and depressing in this book, but worth the read overall. I gave it 4 stars because I am tired of the female characters in her books getting being degraded so much. But, I do love the Drake Sisters series overall.

I can only say " what was Christine Feehan thinking?" Since when do readers of paranormal _romance_ want to read about graphic torture and rape? A totally disappointing and out of character ( for the book's characters and for Feehan) end to an otherwise great series. I surely hope that this isn't going to be indicative of the author's future books....if so count me out.

i thought this book was great! the "dark parts" of the book that so many people are upset about are a reality!! christine feehan does more than write a fluff story about heaving breasts and gleaming muscles.. she is not afraid to introduce real characters who have gone through real hardships. anyone who reads and appreciates her as an author knows this. i'm sick of reading about so-called "strong" characters who's biggest problem is that they broke a nail. christine feehan brings a depth to her characters that is lacking in many popular books. as for those who say it is a "waste of money" if you have to decide between food and a book..buy the food and go to the library!! thank you once again christine feehan for introducing a dark reality in this world right now. human trafficking. most people would like to close their eyes about this or blame the women but this is a reality we should all be aware of.
thank you for your time reading this, i've never posted a review before but i feel this great author deserves someone to say thank you.

I loved this series and like all the other Feehan fans could not wait to read Elle's story. It was a huge disappointment. The violence was just unnecessary, the story was rushed and you have no real feeling for who the main characters are. It just ruined the whole series for me. I hope that this is not a sign of things to come with her other books.

Hidden Currents (Drake Sisters, Book 7)
This is my first written review ever. After reading this book, I felt compelled to review it. First, I must say I am a Christine Feehan fan. I have read all of her books to date. Was so looking forward to this book, the final book to the Drake Sisters series.
I was so very disappointed in this book, even to the point of being angry and saddened for the main characters. I was looking forward to a strong, happy ending for the series. Realistically, I can't imagine anyone being abused the way Elle was in this book and coming out emotionally intact. Even with family support and love from Jackson, it would take a long time to heal. There are so many other directions Feehan could have taken with this book. Rape was NOT the direction to go !!!
I did enjoy having all the previous Drake sisters and their mates in the book and the camaraderie between the men. That I believe helped to bring closure to the series. There were a few good moments in the book. Having said that, I think the {Death} scene was major overkill and the ending of the book rushed.
I struggled as to what rating to give the book. But honestly, since I wouldn't recommend it to anyone to read, I had to go with a 2. And I feel that is being generous.
If only the publisher would have taken the reigns a little more and toned down the violence, we ALL could have enjoyed a memorable ending to the Drake Sisters Series instead of the Lousy one we received.

Wow is all I can say about this book. What on earth made Feehan go in this direction?? I was disturbed deeply by the rape and tourture of a beloved character but I was horrified how unrealistic the book became after the events occured. No woman in her right mind would flirt and feel sexual days after coming home from a month of being so abused. Its such a pity as the other books in this series were so magical. Next year the next ghostwalker book comes out. Im BEGGING Mrs. Feehan not to even consider such a dark path to a romance book.

I as a Feehan fan thoroughly enjoyed the ending to the "Drake" series.I can definitely say Stavos's character had me heated with him ( meaning I could have been another character in the book and whipped him telepathically until he was brain dead!..lol) and my poor little heart breaking for Elle!
I love happy endings and I hope Feehan creates a new series for the gifted children of the seven sisters!..I think thats something to think about!>>>hmmmmm!
For those who didn't enjoy the ending>>> well..im not sure what to say except..." WOW"! cause I certainly did as well as many other readers!

I think Christine Feehan did not take her readers into consideration when she wrote this book. For this to be the final installment of the series, she let her readers down. The abuse in the first half of the book was understandable considering Jackson's torture, but to have it written in such vivid detail was upsetting. I agree with another review, I hope she does not do this with Skylar's story. Hopefully, she reads these reviews.

****WARNING! MAJOR SPOILERS****
This is the first review I've written for a book. That should tell you just how upset I was over this one. First, let me say that I have read ALL of Feehan's books, anthologies included. So naturally, I've read all of the Drake Sisters' books. I enjoyed each one, until this one.
****HERE COMES THE SPOILER PART****
I had high hopes for this book, since we have seen Elle and Jackson's relationship progress from the beginning. Boy were those hopes dashed fast. The first third of the book recounts the constant rape, brutalization, and degradation of the main character.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that, tragically, rapes happen in real life. And admittedly, I find these kinds of plotlines extremely difficult to read. But if that was a direction she HAD to go in, (and this is a direction that Feehan seems to go in a lot) then I respect her decision as an author to go there.
However, when you have that same character getting freaky with the hero WITHIN DAYS (not even a week) of being rescued from a situation so horrible she considers harming herself to end the torment, it's insulting to people who have actually been through this kind of trauma.
I realize that she needed to move the plot along, and that she needed to wrap up the series. In order to do that, she rocketed through Elle's recovery in order to give out the required happy ending. The problem is, it's really hard to get a happy ending with such an ugly beginning.

I'll preface my review by saying I almost always LOVE Ms. Feehan's books. The whole 'one soul, two bodies that have to find each other' concept that she works with in her Carpathian/Leopard and even in the Ghostwalker (manipulated but still) really appeal to me. I love the worlds she creates in my head with her books. Own all of her books for my personal library and love to re-read them when I'm in the mood! Now the Drake series, I'd always put towards her 'lighter' books based on the fact that the first couple were novellas (more or less) until Hannah's story. Even after reading that one, Jolie's story, and thinking about what Elle was mysteriously doing in the other books, I wasn't expecting this book to be as 'dark' as it ended up being.
Having stated my 99% positive opinions for Ms. Feehan's body of work, I have to go with all the negative reviews on this book. I simply couldn't handle it. Having purchased it under the 'paranormal romance' or 'romance' genre, I really was not expecting the violence/rape/abuse in this book. I can deal with rape/torture (men & women) on the whole but I have to be 'expecting' and 'agreeing to read about it' by the type of book I've bought. When in the mood for a light summer read, this book will not do. I was a bit nauseated by the majority of the first third of the book (Elle AND Jackson's abuse). Did finish it and have to agree with all the reviewers who stated that the ending was too abrupt. I really wanted the Greek to suffer for a month or so the way Jackson/Elle suffered. Three seconds to realize what was happening was way too short. I think the main issue for me is that I visualize as I read and Ms. Feehan is so very good good at creating scenes in my head that I was suffering along with her characters which is really NOT what I wanted when I started reading this book.
Ended up returning this book as it's not something I'll ever wish to re-read but that's just me. Basically, my opinion is that this is a absorbing read - if you can handle it. Descriptive, captures you, shows the power of family and love etc, BUT not for someone looking for a straight romance, paranormal romance, or a 'happy' book. It is a book about survival (both Jackson and Elle) and the power of healing and family. Don't know about the timeframe involved in healing from her capture as the other reviewers have mentioned, but have to say that as I was visualizing what was happening to Elle and Jackson, I didn't really think that either would be getting over it as quickly as they did.
This was the next Feehan book so I just picked it up as usual. Wish that I'd read some of the reviews prior to picking this one up so that at least I could have been a bit more prepared...

I loved all the sister in the Drake Sisters Series. After waiting so long for Ella story, I was very disappointed. The story was very dark and evil. To have most powerful of the sister rape and abused for her first time was horrible. Ms Feehan, I will have to think about buying your books in the future.

I have to speak up on behalf of Ms. Feehan, this story, and of her treatment of Elle's torture and recovery in terms of character development. I suspect that at least some of the negative book reviews are coming from a place of visceral negative emotional reaction to Elle's rape, a horrible thing to have happened to a character we've become invested in, and of course no reader wants to envision themselves in Elle's shoes. Fair enough, so be it. But unless you've been in a similar situation - have been a victim of an assault, rape, torture, any crime that injures and wrests personal control away from you - please consider that you have ZERO CLUE what "is realistic," or about what any person who's experienced something similar can accomplish in terms of recovery. Elle's "accellerated" recovery (her ability to make a sexual connection with Jackson) worked for me in part because of the skill with which Ms. Feehan represented Elle's and Jackson's emotional connection, in part because the world Feehan has created allows for psychic healing, but also because recovery is a highly individual thing.
I have a few nitpicks about the rest of the book here and there, but all in all, I feel this is a thought-provoking, gutsy, well-crafted book. Brava.

This book was an incredible let down. In my mind Jackson and Elle are completely combustable and I could not wait for the fireworks to begin. Page after page I waited for that incredible high that comes with the end of a series. It did not happen, and I was left with the impression that this book was just tossed out there.

I loved the other books in this series, but when the main character is kidnapped and raped multiple times in the first couple of chapters I trashed this book. (Literally threw it in the trash.) There is no happily ever after that can possibly work after that!

SPOILERS!!
Of course my review will contain spoilers, but it appears most of the rest do as well. The rape and total degradation was extreme, but perhaps it was necessary to make the point of the mental health of Elle and her reasons for shielding her sisters. I actually enjoyed the book - I'm not sure about the ending as it did rush up - the fact that the yacht was parked at the shore seemed like an aside rather than a big deal. I expected it to be a sisters versus bad guy like the rest and found it refreshing that the 'lowly' men came up with the plan and took care of the execution this time. All in all, I would recommend reading this book, but be sure to read the previous novels first.

Feehan does it again with the finale of the Drake series novels. While darker than the rest of the series, she manages to close the loop with all of the minor characters from the previous six books, and she introduces two new characters which leave us wondering ... will there be more?!? The books are meant to be stand alone, but it is highly recommended, particularly for this book, that you read them in order.
Hidden Currents finally reveals Elle's and Jackson's story which, like Hannah and Jonas, was pretty much scripted since the beginning of the series. After the first few chapters we realize how strong these characters are and how much they are bound together, not just through their psychic link, but through shared experiences and mutual insecurities. It was a fitting end and well told story.
Like any other story, this book probably isn't for everyone. If you are in the mood for a feel good story, while this book gets there eventually, it's probably not the book for you.
***SPOILERS***
While I somewhat agree with the reviews that pan Elle's recovery from the trauma she goes through is faster than realistic, the subject matter is handled so much better than in Deadly Game (GhostWalkers, Book 5), that I can't use that as a detractor for this book. I'm not normally a fan of books with such dark themes, so if there was one complaint I had about the book that would be it.
I don't find it unrealistic at all that Elle would turn to Jackson over her sisters for comfort and security, as we've seen this theme time and again in both Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters, Book 6) and Safe Harbor (Drake Sisters, Book 5), where Jolie and Hannah, turn to Ilya and Jonas for comfort instead of their sisters. It also isn't atypical behavior for Elle to turn from her sisters as we see in Oceans of Fire (Drake Sisters, Book 3) and Dangerous Tides (Drake Sisters, Book 4) where she shies from them to protect their privacy, and we get glimpses of how much a burden the being the seventh weighs on her and how she tries to keep that from her sisters as well. Lastly, because of her experiences with Jackson when he was a POW, it makes perfect sense that she would turn to him, not only because he KNOWS some of what she's been through since he experienced it with her, but he's been there himself. Anyone who has been through any type of traumatic event in their life be it rape, child abuse, divorce, death of a loved one, cancer, etc. knows that there are support groups out there filled with people just like them, and that often time its easier to turn to them for support over the people who love them.
Onto happier subjects ... will there be more?!? We have known all along that there were others beyond the Drakes that possessed some of their abilities, primarily Jonas, Ilya, and Jackson. We've all been wondering since Turbulent Sea will a series on the rest of the Prakenski brothers become a reality? As another reviewer has stated, per Feehans website the answer to that question is yes! We kept hearing in this book that Jackson has a price on his head from killing a member of a motorcycle gang, with Stavros' brother head of what is most likely the same motorcycle gang, and Ilya's firm belief that Sid was undercover I can see the beginnings of a good crossover book into the new series.
Lastly, this book answered a niggling question that was raised by Turbulent Sea, namely if the "seventh" was bound to conceive no matter what birth control was used then how could Ilya have been this sexual super stud without having several offspring all over the world already? He answers that question himself ... much to Elle's consternation, in this book, thus shutting the door on what I thought was the biggest oopsie of the series.

Hidden Currents is not as intense as I expected based on some of the earliest reviews I read. Yes, the scenes involving rape and torture were distressing, but they did not control the book. Instead, they made the relationship between Jackson and Elle stronger. Both of them were able to travel from being victims to becoming survivors together. I liked the way all of the major characters were included in the book. The end seemed a little rushed ,but it did tie up most of the story lines. I hope the series can continue despite the fact this is supposed to be the last book. All seven couples worked together as a team in this book and could certainly do so in future books.

I could not get past the physical abuse horrible things ECT at the beginning of this book. I couldn't even get past that. After the villain, "starvos" forces her to take a minion's "penis" in her mouth then blows his head off... Yeah just didn't feel like reading anymore of the book. HUGE let down from Feehan. I agree with a previous post, yes I know that horrible things like this exist in real life but I do not want to read about it in books that are supposed to help people be entertained. There needs to be a WARNING on books. I do not like reading about rape/torture in books. This book got tossed in the trash where it belongs!

I have been reading reviews for Christine Feehan's books and I have read just about everything she has written. I really love her books and my head really gets into the stories and the characters. I am also a reader of mainstream fantasy with such authors as Terry Goodkind, Mercedes Lackey, Andre Norton, Terry Brooks, and many others so I find it easy to have a willing suspension of disbelief. I know that many readers were very upset about the torture and rape of Elle and I was very upset at what happened to her. I however felt that this or something else terrible happening to Elle was really necessary to force Jackson and her into their predestined love. Jackson was really so shattered at what had happened to him and by his upbringing that he somehow felt that he would never be worthy of Elle and he could not take the steps necessary to accept Elle and her legacy. When Elle also suffers her terrible ordeal, Jackson realizes that he must save Elle and that he can love her and save her as she saved him. As he brings Elle back to herself, he realized that the torture he suffered did not make him unworthy of Elle and he never felt for one minute that Elle is not worthy of him because of what she suffered. He finally realizes that he a worthy man and that he needs to claim the woman of his dreams and accept the Drake family legacy.
Now a normal woman would probably never recover from what Elle suffered. However all of us who are reading these books do not want normal. We are reading the extraordinary and very unrealistic stories of the Drake sisters. How could Hannah recover from a fatal stabbing, how did Ty recover from a destroyed brain, how did Aleksandr recover from severe knife wounds? We have all accepted that the Drake family magic along with help from Ilya has done all of these miracles. Elle has the love of her life, Jackson, helping her along with her 6 sisters with special help from Libby for physical healing and Kate for emotional and psychic healing. Given that, is her being able to heal any less likely that all of the other miracles that have happened in these books?

If I could, I would give this book 1/2 a star or NO star at all I would.
The rape scenes took away from the entire book.
I barley got thru it.... and when I was done, I tore the book in pieces and threw it in the garbage.
I am/was extremely disappointed & disturbed.

This is the seventh and presumably the final Drake sister romance of the series...and much the way Christine Feehan introduced the series with mystical and spellbinding characters (anyone remember: Magic in the Wind) Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, Book 1) rather short, but still enjoyable...the series ends with a disturbing prose.
Stavros Gratsos, is a well-to-do Greek businessman involved in trafficking humans, Elle Drake must try her best to blend in with the social scene as she goes undercover to investigate. Yet, there is something strange about this man. Elle, now working under the guise of Sheena MacKenzie, is unable to use her psychic abilities on him - and thus unable to read his being. The book falls apart when the youngest Drake sister is forced to Stavros' private island.
Distraught and confused, Deputy Sheriff Jackson Deveau - the man that loves Elle, does all he can to find and return Elle to Sea Haven. Concerns are further raised when he learns that her six older sisters are unable to telepathically link to Elle. Will they be able to locate her? And if so, what has happened to her? Who is Stavros Gratsos? And how is he able to block their psychic abilities? I will stop there, but there are some very graphic and disturbing scenes coming up.
With all Christine Feehan books...the characters are drawn like an artist painting a masterpiece - and for this book that is a problem - the book also can overwhelm the reader with the number of characters in it - there are a lot! But the villain...Oh, the villain. The villain is one that is so depraved that all seven sisters (and more) are needed to bring his reign of sadistic terror to an end.
If you are new to the series, Hidden Currents (Drake Sisters, Book 7) is not the book you want. The characters and plot are so disturbing that you'll find yourself lost without having read the earlier books. If you are caught up with the series, then book 7 was a bad way to end a great series..............Skip it, and read the book I would highly recommend that blends mysticism and romance together flawlessly is JoAnna Wylde's novel Price of Pleasure-- Price of Pleasure -- that is, if you are one of the few that haven't read it yet.

This book is not for the faint of heart. It lists graphic abuse of Elle Drake. However, with the help of badass Sheriff Jackson Deveau the love of her life, family and friends, she is able to overcome. This last book in the Drake series was worth the wait. It is heart wrenching and emotional. It is testimony to Elle's strength and her family's love and support. It is also about what people will do to protect their love ones.

I hesitated buying this book because I was suspicious of what was to come having watched the trailer and read the advanced synopsis.I ended up buying it because I felt compelled to complete the Drake Sisters series. Christine Feehan has been adding brutalization and rape to her female characters with increased frequency and I was afraid that was going to happen to Elle as well. Well it did and I'm sorry I spent the money to witness yet another degradation of a female. I realize this happens in life and it sickens me, but if I choose to be involved with the issue, it is not going to be when I sit down to "escape" in a romance novel.I have enjoyed past Christine Feehan books so much, but I know that if I want to continue reading her, I will have to witness this brutalization at least 2 more times to beloved characters. It's already been established that Ivory Malinov in the upcoming Dark Slayer September release was raped, and we have already witnessed some of Skylar's abuse. We obviously read these books because we want to experience the excitement and adventure of the characters' lives. Well, I no longer wish to experience brutalization and depravity at the hands of a sadist, even if there is a happy ending.I'm done with this author.

The Drake sisters series has been very enjoyable, and this is a superb ending, particularly with the information from Feehan's web site that the loose ends (Ilya's brothers and the biker gang issue) will be dealt with in a new series. It is darker than some of the others in the series, but the subject is a tough one and needs that tone. If you are looking for fluff, this is not for you, but if you want a well written book with wonderful characters and a positive, feel-good ending, get this book.

I loved reading this book, but reading some of the ratings here got me a little bit upset. This book has some very horrific things happen to Elle right in the beginning. The author is not trying to have the villain establish a Sub/Dom relationship with Elle. The villain mentally feels as if his entitled to OWN Elle, he wants a slave, not a companion. Not every book you read is going to be filled with pretty and petty fluff. Sometimes, just sometimes you come across a fictional romance with some very non-fictional, everyday ocurring issues. This just happens to be one of them. And as for Elle and Jackson having sex soon after her rescue...they've already had a connection, before she was kidnapped and raped. Lets not forget that he was in her head during a number of things that was being done to her, he saw exactly what was being done to her. (Did you not read the scene where he spazzed out in the Drake home on the floor, banging his hands on the floor, etc..)So for all of you who gave it a low rating b/c of the beginning of the book, maybe you should just stick to the books that will always make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside from beginning to end.

I found this to be the best book witten by this author. It made me cry , ans shout foe joy in the real situation nd the effect on Elle. Even with powers the effect of this abuse and the way she survied should be noted as real Great book

While certainly not my favorite thing, I can deal with when a main character gets raped but to last for that length of time and then on top of that not even have Elle really deal with what happend, it makes no sense to me. It's not the first time Feehan has done this either. She did something similar in the GhostWalker series. I found this time more disturbing, probably because of the detail.
The book just never recovered from what happened in the first part. While I'm not saying I'll never buy one of her books again, I'll certainly be checking the reviews before I do.
