If you haven't introduced yourself to Joe Pike and Elvis Cole, this book is an excellent way to do it. This author is a great find and belongs up there with Baldacci, Patterson (the ones he writes) and Robert Parker.

I am a mystery/detective book junkie and Robert Crais is one of my all time favorites. Gripping plot lines, usually a love story, terrific protagonists and very bad, bad guys. This is one of his earlier books but still a great read with a moral. Not quite up to Suspect, but then I am a dog lover too. So grab one of his books and take a mind vacation. Long live ELvis Cole and Joe Pike!

Love this series. Cole and Pike are wonderful characters. Settings and stories true to the LA detective tradition. Great story lines. Would highly recommend. I am biased, since I have read them all Robert Crais rocks
The Sentry (Joe Pike) :: Free Fall (Elvis Cole) :: Crais (A Walker Saga Book 3) :: Farts: A Spotter's Guide :: Sunset Express (Elvis Cole)

His stuff is consistently top notch. My two favorite series used to be Jack Reacher and Cole/Pike. Reacher seems to have gotten stale while Elvis and Joe keep chugging along at a consistently high standard.

Funny - Sarcastic. Witty, charming, romantic, verging on sexy, suspenseful, interesting characters, full of surprises, and then there's that damned cat! I love the cat. Look forward to reading the next edition.

Elvis and Joe the dynamic duo.... Wish someone would do a film, it would develop into a great series... The "ROCK" would make a great Joe Pike. I enjoy these
novels so much, very difficult to put down.

Finally I read where Elvis meets Lucy. Very exciting, fast moving novel. When Robert Crais writes, I can find myself in the scene - his characterizations are very real as is the dialog. Very enjoyable read.

Just love Robert Crais, Elvis Cole, Joe Pike. Can't go wrong. I will read all of his books...then maybe start over again. Read Hostage twice...and was just as good second time....about a 10 plus stretch between reads.

Other than being introduced to that Cajun delicacy, this book was pretty much a waste of time. The plot started off okay but just kept getting weaker and weaker and then totally bombed at the end. The ending was just too contrived. The characters, mostly, didn't seem real. The romance seemed unrealistic. Even the setting -- not far from James Lee Burke bayou country -- lacked Burke's superior narration and authentic feel. Crais should have ceded Lousiana to Burke and stayed home in L.A. Crais' books seem to be very good or, well, not so good. Sadly, this one falls into the latter category. He's a much better writer than this.
