This was the first Alexander McCall Smith book that we have read and we were entranced by how well this gentleman weaves a story. We will look forward to reading more of his books and learning more about Bostwana and Africa.

All of the entries in this series are pleasurable to read or listen to, I have the audiobooks of them all. Lisette Lecat is perfect in her inflections of both the male and female characters and you have to love Mma Romatswe, the black African version of Miss Marple.

This is a delightful series. Easy, pleasant reading. You really get to know the characters better and better with each succeeding volume. I have read 1-9, and now I have to purchase the rest, 10-13.

"Cheerful Ladies" led to less sophistacated detective work. The unprofessional though cheerful approach to the ladies didn't add substantially to make the chacaters strong and plausible. Their approach to detective work was almost annoying at times.
I do enjoy McCall's use of langauge and story writing. An easy read.

This group of books is one of the most delightful reads I have found in a long time. It is a gentle "detective story", but really a lovely story about some very nice people, and the very realistic trials they face, re: children, work ethics, and as down to earth as what shoes to buy for your wedding when money is limited. I love all the characters in this book and have read all of them. This book was bought as a gift.

At this point you have to truly LOVE Mma. Ramotswe and her cast of characters. I would have liked to have seen more mystery solving; but even this closer look into the personal lives of the "The Ladies....." was great. As usual, I finished the book before I wanted to. On to the next!!
