I was a little disappointed with the story line. It was not as exciting as Sanford's other books. Also many of the proper nouns were not capitalized, making it very distracting. Someone should have proofed the book better.

Unlike some other reviewers, I don't think this is markedly inferior to the last Prey novel (which was so bad and forgettable I can't even recall its name). I noticed a big decline in quality around the time that Lucas adopted Letty (or she became his 'ward' - a term I haven't heard used since Dickens). As others have mentioned, when you go back and re-read early Prey novels, you get the feeling that Sandford (Camp) isn't even writing the newer ones himself. There were a few good moments here (the windmill-operated vibrator made me laugh out loud, and Weather was far less weird and annoying than in the last couple. But there were way too many well-worn quips and there was almost no plot whatsoever, let alone a real investigation. The author is still so much better than everyone else that I will keep reading, but I wish, I wish, he would return to the former level of quality. (And speaking of quality, what was with all the typos? I felt like I was reading someone's rough draft!)

Great book. John Sandford always makes sure he delivers continuity and suspense. I love how I can always relate the next book in the Prey series back to the previous ones yet there are always new surprises. I can't wait to see what Lucas Davenport faces next.

I really like this L. Davenport character. I grew up in Wisconsin and am familiar with all those little Minnesota towns. It is like I know this character after all those Prey books. Keep them coming, I'm hooked.
