I love James Patterson's murder mysteries and was pleasantly surprised to read this and not have it be. At the same time to read about a terrible time in American history and learn a little as well. Politics!

I am never disappointed with James Patterson's books. I particularly enjoyed the look back in time. We have so much to learn from others and other times. I read this in record time, just could not put it down.

Total waste of time. The storyline is terrible with a lackluster ending. If m. Night shyamalan and Michael bay co-wrote a book I would expect the book to be of this caliber. James Patterson, you're a well renown author, you should be ashamed to put your name on this atrocity. Overall, if you bought the digital copy gift the book for the holidays. If you bought a paperback copy, use the paper for rolling blunts so you can forget you pay money for this garbage.

So far, this the most powerful reading out of the Cross series in my opinion. The "Mockingbird" comparison is pretty accurate for this reading. The graphic descriptions are not for the weak of heart but they are important for the book to function.

I, too, was disappointed this novel was not about Alex Cross. My biggest complaint is that too much space was given to the grisly details of lynching. I felt like yelling, "Enough! I got it already!" Yes, they were indeed horrific but I got that early on and didn't need the concept ground into my Euro-American face.

James Patterson has done it again! This story about earlier generations of the Cross family is entertaining, yet thoroughly thought provoking as Patterson leads us through the horrors of slavery in our country. The characters are well developed and the story is absorbing. A great read!
