This whole series is just awesome, you really get caught up in the characters and their interactions. This book, like the two that precede it, is very action packed. As with every other book mr Ringo has written it is hard to put this down, I would suggest that you don't start any of his books unless you are willing to finish it without putting it down.

The weakness of this series is that its main characters are two teen-aged girls in a military scenario. The strength of this series is John Ringo's ability to get readers attached to those characters so intensely that you HAVE to see what they'll do next. There were times that I wondered how there had been so little military success against the zombies given the ease with which the "Wolf Squadron" of makeshift vessels plows through them. Nonetheless, this is a series that has sucked me in and leaves me entirely satisfied with each book.
"Islands" is a necessary step towards the eventual reclamation of the Homeland, and centers on the need for the equipment and ingredients for a vaccine. It does not, strictly speaking, bring anything new to the series, for instance information about the origins of the virus, or the discovery of important new centers holding out against the zombies. However, it is a greatly entertaining read and I cannot find anything with which to fault it.

I enjoyed the book and the series, look forward to the 4th book. Some plot lines were finished and connected (Walker's identity for one). However, as some others have described, there was just too much dialog on Faith and being a Marine. TOO MUCH! That is my observation. Much too much of the book tied up with things that really do not matter to the storyline. Recommend this book to keep up with the series. Hope in the next one or two that Steve finds the guy that stated this virus and does what he said he would do..................................
Have to give it 4 starts due to the Faith as a Marine justification in the book. Should have been <5% of the book instead of 30% or more.

John Ringo doesn't disappoint in this incredible 3rd book of the series. Zombies, strong military component, lots of action, and a great plot with solid characters, a few plot twists, and Faith... Faith makes this series. And I don't mean religion.

I've been waiting impatiently for this book and am not disappointed. Love this storyline and how everyone is evolving through this tragedy both for good or for bad. Mr. Ringo has a way with words that pulls you in and love every moment of it. Can't wait for December!

The science is good. The military strategy and the social realities are sound. But the bottom line is you cannot read this without stopping to clear your eyes at least once . Thank God for the "Bobsy Twins"
