I don't usually pick up Mary Higgins Clark mysteries, but it was late at night and this was readily available in my daughter's room. This was a better read then some of her other books I've come across. The plot was good. I've known and suspected that meeting people via the Internet is not the safest way to go. Too many predators out there. Clark did not make use of the concept enough...just used Internet like newspaper ads for singles. Many times people will talk to another person for months, even years before meeting them in person...and this could have been used more in the story.
My big complaint again is character development. I don't know where Clark gets the idea that describing the fancy clothes her characters wear is character development, but that seems to be what she is doing. I guess her books are trying to straddle genres here, being part mystery and part romance. Apparently the female characters also need to find someone 'right' to love in these books also.
Ok, enough nitpicking. For a quick read that demands no effort on the part of the reader this book is fine. Even I get tired of the science and bioethics books, and need a mindless break once in a while. :-)

LOVES MUSIC, LOVES TO DANCE is a mystery written by Mary Higgins Clark. Erin Kelley and Darcy Scott, best friends, have just finished college, and move to the big apple in hopes of finding suiting careers. To help their TV producer friend out, they start answering personal ads in the newspaper. They are curious to see what the people are like who place the ads. They both are carefree until Erin disapears and is found, dead, on a Manhattan pier, one foot in her boot, the other in a dancing shoe. The police soon find out that Erin wasn't the first to die on the "dance crazed" murderer's list. What the police do not know, however, is that Darcy is next on the serial killers list. All of these events tie together to make a compelling mystery that seems unsolvable. Mary Higgins Clark ties things together in such a manner that the events may not even seem possible. She's done it again!

Personal ads lure victims to a killer. Is anyone safe? Two friends and roommates, Erin Kelley and Darcy Scott have moved to the big city looking for an opportunity at new careers, Erin in jewelry design and Darcy as a decorator. Just for fun, Darcy talks Erin into helping a friend research the kinds of people who place personal ads. All is fun until Erin disappears and is found dead. On the feet of her body, one of her own shoes remains, but the other foot has a dancing shoe. Then the killer starts contacting Erin and tells her that her friend wasn't his first victim. And, probably not the last, if he has anything to do with it. Next on his list is Darcy.

LOVES MUSIC LOVES TO DANCE was the second book that I read written by Mary Higgins Clark, and this continued my addiction to her stories. The reader imagines herself in this same situation, and a seemingly safe setting turns into a fear-provoking arena for emotions. If you love a good mystery, this is the book for you to read! Highly recommended for enjoyment

A serial killer is on the loose, preying on young, pretty women he meets through personal ads, but New Yorkers are still more concerned with what they're going to wear to lunch on Tuesday! Go figure. "Loves Music, Loves to Dance" provides a great examination of WASPy New Yorkers. Every "good guy" character in the book is described as stunningly attractive and successful. These people spend their time eating in posh restaurants and discussing interior design, jewelry, and designer clothes (because this is a world in which even heterosexual men are mad for designer bags - although I have a hard time imagining it). Although Mary Higgins Clark tends to gush about her characters, causing the reader to roll his/her eyes, all this talk about shoes and decorating schemes helps to pull you into the materialistic world of successful young New Yorkers.
This novel is supposed to be a suspense novel, but compared to other MHC novels I thought suspense was lacking. Halfway through the book the identity of the killer is obvious. I won't spoil the ending, but let me say that if you do the math you'll know who's guilty. However, I still enjoyed cheering on our heroine, Darcy Scott, as she hunts for the psycho who murdered her best friend. "Loves Music" is a quick read and an enjoyable page-turner.

This is a fascinating book! Definately MHC at her best! Erin Kelley and Darcy Scott, best friends since college, have found theirselves at a high point in their life. Both have promising careers, and love to dance. To help a friend with a documentary, Darcy persuades Erin to answer personal ads. All goes well until one night when Erin disappears. Later, her body was found partially thawed on a pier in Manhattan. On one foot was her own boot, but on the other was a spiked heel dancing slipper. At first, it seems as if Erin was the victim of a copy-cat murderer- because of a program shown on telivision the night before about a girl who died the same way- but Darcy and an FBI agent know that the deaths are linked; not only to each other, but to the other missing women who answered personal ads. Darcy blames herself for Erin's murder, and seeks to find the man who killed her, by dating men from personal ads herself. What Darcy does not know is that she has been chosen by the murderer, to die. And this time, he won't give her back. I enjoyed this thriller with its high level of suspense. MHC is a great author and wrote this book with great detail. I recommend this to anyone, especially those who love music, and love to dance.

Loves Music, Loves to Dance by Mary Higgins Clark was very good. It seemed very realistic. It is along the lines of a Nancy Drew book, but more adult-like. Its genre is realistic mystery. It was a very interesting book.

The book was about Darcy Scott. She and her best friend, Erin Kelley, are living in New York. On a night when they were suppose to meet for dinner, Erin never shows up. She has disappeared. Darcy is frantically trying to find her. She does not want to think Erin has died, but when a young woman has been found, she's not sure what to think. Is it Erin? Who killed her? Will they ever find out? If this sounds appealing to you, I would suggest reading Loves Music, Loves to Dance.

This was the first Mary Higgins Clark book I ever read - and it led me to buy over 20 more!..

Higgins Clark is the only author who can introduce 20 characters individually to a story - and then bring them all together in the end!!.. This book is proof of exactly that..

Erin & Darcy agree to help a friend who is doing a documentary on Personal ads - The idea is appealing for a good laugh & who knows who they'll meet..

Erin soon disappears - and is found dead with a high-heeled dancing slipper on her foot.. Darcy - desperate to find the killer - doesn't realise that she is next on "Charlie's" list..

Another Excellent and Easy Read!

Mary Higgans Clark is a wonderful author, and she does wonderful job of keeping her readers on the edge of their seat. During this book I felt that I was in the situation with Darcy, and I felt bad for what she was getting into. Mary Higgins did a wonderful job of not relvealing who "Charley" really was. All I have are praises for this book. I was introduced to her books by having to read this book for assignment. I am now hooked on her books, and I can't wait to enjoy them all. For anyone who is not sure about reading,"Loves Music, Loves to Dance" they shouldn't think again. You are in for a treat!

I recently just finished Loves Music, Loves to Dance. I'm only fourteen so when I first started to read the book, my reaction was that it was going to go on and about adult life (which I find extremely boring). But only an hour later, my face still buried into the book, I realized I couldn't put it down. It was so suspenseful because the characters were unpredictable. I ended up on the edge of my seat only anticipating what the next event would bring. I finished the book in less than a day. I was very pleased with the outcome of my first Mary Higgins Clark novel. After that, I plan on picking up another

I've long forgotten how exceptional Mary Higgins Clark is as a writer! I've read works of hers in the past but the titles escape me - not because they were bad, but because it's literally been YEARS since I've picked up another one of her books. Well, let me tell you - I'm so thrilled my aunt gave me this book to read! Awesome and thrilling and I never wanted to stop! The story is up and going from chapter 1 and it just never stops until the end! I absolutely enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys suspense!

Loves Music, Loves to Dance, one of the many favorite mystery novel by Mary Higgins Clark, American's best-loved and best-known of suspense story. In this captivating, yet chilling novel, Mary Higgins Clark outlines a nightmarish situation that lie just beneath the surface of everyday's life, where a psychopathic killer enacts a bizarre dance of death. Nan Sheridan, a beautiful girl with silky blond hair, was found dead in the wooded area near her home the morning after her nineteenth birthday, with her jogging shoe on one foot and a mysterious dancing slipper on the other. Fifteen years later, an innocent correspondence to personal ads led to the disappearance of Erin Kelley. Her body was found on an abandoned Manhattan pier soon after, with her own shoe on one foot and a high-heeled dancing slipper on the other. Driven by guilt, Erin's best friend Darcy Scott sets out to meet the men Erin had dated, hoping to find her killer with the help of Chris Sheridan. What Darcy does not know until it is too late is that she has been targeted as the killer's next victim. Loves Music, Loves to Dance is one of the best books I'd read. It begins with a captivating introduction of the psychopathic killer, and reaches a swift and chilling climax as it approaches to the end. What I love most about Loves Music, Loves to Dance is the mystery of the killer's identity; he is the person whom I least suspect. Unlike Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, Loves Music, Loves to Dance provides a sensational entertainment to its reader, rather than a deep meaning in which one should interpret. I suggest this book to anyone who loves a good mystery story before settling in for the night.

Loves Music, Loves To Dance was a wonderful book! I had never herd of it, or read one of her books before, but when my friend said it was good, I just had to try it. And WOW! I loved it. The intire time, I thought Doug Fox was the killer, but to my surprise, NO! It was ..... the person I thought was so nice! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I am now reading anothe one of her books, Where Are The Children?, and it is just as good as Loves Music, Loves To Dance. And beleve you me, I will read more of her books. I recomend this to anyone and everyone!

What bugged me about Loves Music, Loves to Dance was how obvious it was who the killer was. Shouldn't there be SOME suspense? Was it just me, or did anyone else notice that this character served no other purpose in the book? All of the other "suspects" had motives, half a dozen suspicious occurrences in their pasts, and clues planted to suggest they might have done it. While Mr. Real Killer was just as nice and friendly as can be throughout the whole book. Except for the fact that there was no reason for him to be there except to be the darn killer! Please-- Too obvious!

When I read this book, "Loves Music, loves to dance" by Mary Higgins Clark, I was captivated. I have never read a better book and I read a lot. The first time I read it I was frustrated cause you are never sure who did it until the very end, but I read it again and again and it's still great. It was even better the second time I read it, because I had forgotten the story. I read the whole thing in less than two hours because I had to find out how it endend. I love this book. It Rocks

This book Loves Music, Loves to Dance is an amazing suspense novel. It kept me on the edge of the seat and I couldn't put it down. I never would have thought that personal ads were as creepy as they are and that they draw madmen out of their cave.
TV producer, Nona, wants to do a show about why people respond to personal ads and who they are. Nona convinces her two best friends to do some research for her. Erin and Darcy both agree and Erin answers ads for the both of them. After a date with an "ad person" Erin isn't heard from again, but a few days later her body is found strangled to death and wearing a dancing slipper and her own shoe. Darcy soon finds out that many other girls who answered the ads are missing but still Darcy wants to find the killer of her best friend. Darcy keeps trying to find out who killed her friend, not realizing she is the next victim. The story jumps back and forth to show you what the murderer is feeling. It gives you huge creepy feeling; yet you understand how crazy he is. You would never guess that the killer is who he really is. He started killing 15 years ago when he had a huge crush on Nan Sheridan and he got jealous of her. He was invited to her party so he decided to give her her gift the next morning, a pair of dancing slippers. If you love suspense novels this is one you should read. You won't put it down and you will stay up half the night trying to read it.

The protagonist of the novel finds herself caught in a huge dilemna. She soon discovers that her best friend had become the next victim of a psychotic killer who lures his victims through the personal ads. She even decides to place herself in danger in a desperate attempt to seek out the killer and to place an end to his terror. The author is an expert at creating believable and realistic characters and situations, that it will be impossible to put this book down.

This is a great novel, full of suspense. I really couldn't put it down even when I read it for the second time. Another one of Mary Higgins Clark's masterpieces! The reader gets to know the date on which the main character is supposed to die. That makes it even more suspenseful. I did not like the fact that the murderer is - as usual - the nicest person around that you would never ever suspect of anything like that while many other characters are very suspicious and all have secret connections to the first victim from fifteen years ago.

This was the first of many Mary Higgins Clark books I have read. The one thing I like the most about her novels are that the chapters are extremely short and sweet. If I have just an hour to devour a few chapters of a book, because of the brevity of each chapter, I feel that I have accomplished a lot. More than " just a few" can be read in a short period of time.

Loves Music, Loves To Dance is beautifully written. What the critics say to it being "a page-turner" and being a "suspenseful fiction" is true. As you read the book, you are engaged in it. She, Mary Higgins Clark, makes you feel like you are there as the crime happens. She makes you believe you know who the killer is but then when you think you know who it is, she twists the plot, which is brilliant. She keeps you on your toes. The only thing I didn't really like was how with some of the characters, she didn't explain who or why they were important in the book. The plot is written beautifully and every page has a climax. I couldn't put this book down. The most intersting thing about this book is that even though it's fiction, it leaves you wondering if this has happened to anyone you know or if these people are real in some way. The most brilliant thing about the book, I believe, is the way Mary Higgins Clark, made every page, word, chapter, etc. interesting and not so obvious as to who did what and why. Authors who use this type of technique are truly brilliant and wonderful writers. If you are looking for a book with suspense, mystery and a good plot, then read this one and you will not be sorry you choose this book.

This book is another fine mystery from Higgins Clark. The characters are well drawn and the plot is intricate enough to keep readers attention until the end. What I especially enjoyed about this book was the subtle touches of humor throughout the story. However, it is still a dark, deadly mystery with the usual surprise ending. If you are a mystery genre fan, this book is a great read.

This book hits the ground running. A serial killer is suckering women with personal ads. Very thorough story with several interesting characters. Even the suspects who washed out were interesting and well defined. This was my first MGC mystery and I had no idea I would be giving it 5 stars. I highly recommend this book. I really could not put it down it was so compelling.

This book is perfect for the young adult-to-adult reader. There is very little if any at all bad language or content. Although it was a good book, it did get a little boring at times for lack of "edge of your seat" suspense. The book has many characters but they all tie together in the end.

Throughout the story a young woman named Darcy meets these characters by answering personal ads to find her best friend's (Erin) killer after she is found dead. Her murder seems to be similar to seven other murders/disappearances: the Dancing Shoe Murders. Darcy is determined to find the killer no matter the risk.

It definitly keeps you guessing "who dunnit" until the end. For those who are looking for a good, clean murder mystery with a higher level of reading, this book is for you.

MARY HIGGINS CLARK did a superb job of creating characters that we all can relate to. She also did a fantastic job of not revealing who the murderer is until the end. The way she used the suspense of her writing, still keeps me coming back to all of her books. LOVES MUSIC, LOVES TO DANCE is a great book!!

Everybody knows that what makes a good mystery novel is its unpredictable ending. Loves Music, Loves to Dance does not meet this standard. The story line is great, characters intimately developed, but it lacked in unpredictability. Clark, a "master of mystery" poorly hid the culprit, leaving me very disatisfied in the end. This one could have been good, but Clark missed the target.

This book has a fabulous beginning and ending, but little in the middle, like a lot of MHC books. However, I think that this book does the aforementioned better than some of the others...

Ah...but the whole story line is captivating in itself...and the ending is deliciously spine-chilling...

SPOILER

...and the fact that A SHRINK is a twisted murderer is really original!

This book deserves five stars for the ending and the aforementioned 'fact', but the rest brings it down to three.

Thrilled with life in the big city, Erin and Darcy enjoy all that New York has to offer until the girls agree to answer personal ads to help a friend's research for her TV show. When Erin's body is found on an abandoned pier, a mysterious dancing slipper on one foot, Darcy begins her own investigation. Going through Erin's list, Darcy dates the suspects one by one hoping to find the killer. What Darcy doesn't realize is that the killer is hoping to find her as well. With unexpected twists and surprises, Mary Higgins Clark keeps readers guessing all the way up to the climactic conclusion.

Mary Higgins Clark's novel "Loves Music Loves To Dance", is an exciting novel that you cannot put down.
Darcy Scott is putting together a story that deals with all the different types of people who answer personal ads. Darcy wants to know if the ads really reflect the person. Darcy's best friend Erin answers these ads. During one date, Erin meets a sadistic psycho murderer who has two personalities. He kills Erin. Darcy feels like she should be blamed for Erin's death. Darcy then makes it her mission to find the killer. The novel has you guessing the whole time.

Unfortunately, although I enjoy a good mystery/suspense novel as much as the next person, this one particular piece was not a good example. Not more than 30 pages in, I could have written the ending myself. I admit I figure out most so-called mysteries and suspense works before the ending comes - not many truly surprising novels out there these days...but this one was of no better caliber than a 'Harlequin Intrigue' insomuch as it shared a similar simplistic style of writing, was painfully predictable and did not have anything approaching solid character development. Overall, a piece of insubstantial fluff best left to newcomers to this genre of fiction who don't wish to be overly challenged.

I thought this book was really compelling and it kept me reading to the end. When reading the book, you kind of get a sense of who might be the killer, but the real killer is suprising at the end. I think Darcy is a true friend to Erin, since she risked her life to find her killer; by dating guys who place personal ads. At the end I am glad that Darcy realizes that the person that she thinks is her friend is really the killer, even though she had no way of escaping death with the killer; but eventually was saved with the help of the police

I loved this book. All of the Mary Higgins-Clark books are great. Loves Music, Loves to Dance gives you some clues, then lets your mind run wild with all of the possibilities of who the killer is. Then again, she does that with all of her books. If you are wondering whether or not you should read this book, I've read a number of books by many different authors, and let me tell you, this is one of the best I've EVER read! Enjoy!

The book kept me guessing until the end. When you think it is obvious who commited the crime, another suspect seems to have done it. And in the end when you know the identity of Charley you cannot put the book down until you have reached the last page, it keeps you reading faster and faster. Involving you in the book until you start becoming a part of it.

This was my first Mary Higgins Clark book. I got this with 4 others stories by Clark and this was my least favorite of the four. I listen to them on CD while I walk.

What I didn't like about this story is that the characters weren't developed enough for me. I frankly didn't care too much. The first murder was of Darcy's character and I really didn't feel anything other than curious about how Erin would catch him. When Erin's character was in trouble my only emotion was that the outcome I predicted happened and I was a disappointed.

This book did hold my attention but it was predictable and the characters were not developed. I almost wasn't going to read the other books I got by Mary Higgins Clark based on Loves Music, Loves to Dance.

I was thrilled to see all the positive reviews on Loves Music, Loves to Dance. I often come to the reviews to find out how well the book was rated. If it has a horrible review, I don't want to waste my time. If It has a wonderful review I can't wait to get into it. Why I ask, do some people think they need to give away the ending? This infuriates me to no end. Thanks to the reader that decides to give away the killer in this book, has ruined the suspense for the rest of us. I guess I won't be turning to the reviews to find out how the book was appreciated anymore. Kudos to those of you that simply state your opinion & save the ending for the rest of us that would like to enjoy it as well!
