Characters were believable--loved their development . Life situations. Ending a little predictable, but no less real. Loved the description of the landscape, fauna, flora, and weather. So much a part of the environment/ambiance. Long for the castle, brisk air, attention to furnishings and architecture. Total package!

September is an absolutely delightful story, with a lovely mix of happiness and pathos. The characters are so realistically portrayed and I felt I knew them all, and was sad when I reached the end of the book because I needed to know what happened next.
Although I live in warmer climes, I long to visit Scotland now - particularly in September.

I had just finished Shell Seeker & I loved it. This is a new author to me & I noticed some of the characters from Shell Seekers are in September. I now want to read more by Rosamunde Pilcher. September was a good read & I loved the Scotland setting. & like the fact that there are so many characters, each with their own identity & story.

I selected this book because my grandson is to begin graduate school in Edenburgh this fall. His mother and I have not been to Scotland so we are eager to learn as much as possible. When one of the reveiwers commented that this book had too much description I laughed. It could not have enough description for me! Also, my ancestors were Scotch Irish so I enjoyed the book from that stand point. I even ordered a paper back edition so that I could share the book with my daughter without sharing my Kindle edition with her. I would like to have a glossary or dictionary so I could understand some of the Scottish terms and idioms.

I had read this book once before several years ago and I enjoyed it just as much, if not more, the second time. Pilcher's books are always very entertaining. I wish there were more. I have read everything I can find that she has written.

I like the authors books and was not disappointed in September. The detail of the families lives makes you feel that you are living at that time right along with the characters. There are certain things that were written that I will never forget! I liked this book very much

You are In Scotland. The heather, the moors, all come to life as does the saga of a family. You are drawn to each member as they relive their past the culmination of which is a grand ball ...held in September.

Very much enjoyed reading September. A great story, full of entertaining characters and each with loads of layers to read in to. The setting makes you want to look the place up on the map and buy a plane ticket!

Years ago I read Shell Seekers and really enjoyed it. When I recently found a used paperback copy of September I bought it. I was hooked from the start. Not only do I love Scotland, but I quickly got to know and care about the characters and their lives, joys and challenges. Then I realized that it was difficult to read the print on this smaller text aged paperback so I bought it for my Kindle Fire. It's added immensely to my enjoyment. I'm still not finished reading it but know I will love it to the end.

September, as told by a wonderful storyteller brings the Scottish highlands alive. you can see the country side and the majestic old estates in your mind as the story unfolds. This is but one more of Ms Pilcher's delightful books. Well worth the time to indulge in reading.

After the first 50 pages, the connections across characters became clear--and I could not put the book down. Loved it! Its been several years since I read any of her books--this will not happen again!
