I had first heard of this book while listening to Dr. Long on Coast2Coast radio.I was lucky enough to get through on the open line portion of the show,in which I explained my Near Death Experience. Dr. Long advised me that I had a transcendental NDE in which you see relatives who have passed on, or religious fiqures. As a retired NYC Police Sergeant who suffered a massive heart attack after the attacks on the World Trade Center, I became super sensitive to the spirit world. This is common, after experiencing a traumatic injury or illness and subsequent NDE. In my opinion Dr. Long leaves no doubt that there is an afterlife. There will always be skeptics regarding this matter. But I can assure you from someone that has lived through one, that they are very real. And you are given a glimpse of the other side. My book "Running with the Bulls,The Road to Fresh Kills, A Journey into the Paranormal", is an example of what happens after experiencing a NDE. I highly recommend Dr Longs book to all, because we will all be on the other side sooner or later.

Dr. Long's studies were simply remarkable and a tremendous comfort to me. Seeing his evidence that an afterlife truly exists helped me as a grieving parent. I know my daughter is somewhere wonderful and is surrounded by loved ones who have also passed. This kind of reassurance is essential for dealing with grief. The one thing that the bereaved needs is hope. We all hope that we will be someday reunite with our loved ones. This book confirms this for us.

Long writes eloquently and simply about a subject that holds great mystery for everyone. After all, we are all going to travel out of the physical world at some point, and exploring the terrain before we go is a good thing.

This is a well written and well researched book explaining the scientific lines of evidence that clearly prove that Near Death Experiences are not hallucinatory or the result of oxygen deprevation to the brain during death. Dr. Long has studied NDE's utilizing his extensive medical background. This book, and the Afterlife documentary that Paul Perry has released, will provide in-depth and current details on the research and evidence now available concerning NDE's and OBEs. Simply amazing!!

Excellent and factual information to make up your own mind about the afterlife. I recommend this book to the unbelievers to allow the facts to speak more clearly. As for me, I have no doubt as to the afterlife and heaven. Of all the books I have read on this subject, this one is the best. I couldn't put the book down.

Love to read books on the combining of science and personal experience. Understanding what actaully is happening makes a big difference or more accurately...what is NOT happening. This book leaves little room for the nay sayers.

Jeffrey Long is brilliant doctor and human being in my opinion. This book examines near death experiences through case studies. It deals with determining the validity of near death experiences through finding the similarities of people who have had them, regardless their race, religion, or culture. If you or a loved one is going through a difficult disease such as cancer, or a loved one has passed on and you are having difficulty dealing with loss, you need to read this book. It gives those who are ill, a hope and validity of an afterlife and those who are well, inspiration to live your life to the fullest, fearlessly. By the end of this book, your fear of dying will be gone. A must read.

This book has a tremendous amount of research and detail in it. It is what I am interested in reading and found the facts to be accurate and correct. I would recommend this book to those who wonder just what happens after the physical body leaves earth. Good reading , a must for anyone interested in heaven and what happens after life ceases and what happens right before life ceases.

I prefer empirically based discussion when dealing with potentially controversial issues. The author has done a good job of trying to get as factual data as possible and has done a good job of acknowledging and responding to critics in a respectful (unemotional) way.

Looks good but it was recommended to me. Just haven't read it yet.. Fast shipping and cheap. Thanks.. I am Samuel's wife and I will continue this. Samuel had OBE's for about 15 years. Most of his family and relatives have seen him in one of his episodes. Years ago it started with his right had going numb and his starring ahead. Almost like he was in a trance. I never thought it was anything. Never heard of OBE before. I just thought he was trying to get attention. What do I know? It happend just off and on like once a month or maybe once a week. After a few years I really started noticing and though he was having mini stroke's. I took his blood pressure while it happened and his beats of his heart. Nothing changed. What was scary was his eyes, it was like I could look right through them. No doctor could explain or find out what it was. He said while it happened he felt like he was above himself looking down and it was all tunnel vision. It only lasted a few minutes then I would see him moving his fingers and trying to lift his hand. Then he was okay. Well to make a long story short. Eventually he had to have heart surgery. His aorta valve went bad and had a new one put in. It was a St Jude. He never had another episode of the OBE again. So I guess his may have been his heart causing it all. Then about five years later he had a Quadruple bi-pass. I forgot it always left him with a severe headache. Like a migraine and yes that went away also. So I liked the book because it talked about OBE who no other doctor ever mentioned to him. During that time he saw five heart doctors in three different states and none said a word. They just didn't know. Maybe this will help someone who is experiencing this problem. Thanks for reading my story about my husband.

For anyone wondering what happens after we die. Here are some real-life experiences. Written by the man who launched the Web site for Near Death Experience Research Foundation (NDERF) where people from all over the world can submit, anonymously, what they experienced after they were supposedly clinically dead. Site also includes a standardized form that all experiencers must complete along with their narrative.

For anyone who doesn't believe in Reincarnation, or life after death, this book should be the convincer that you have been wrong, wrong, wrong. It will be impossible to dispute that the afterlife does exist after reading these cases of people actually talking to a therapist from that spiritual relm, while under deep hypnosis. A must read!!

I would describe the book as compact summary of a lot of near death experiences. To me the book describes a logical and convincing conclusion of the nature of near death experiences.

If one is more interested in what actually goes on "in the afterlife" this is not the book, since that would be "case studies" of single near death experiences.

A good book! Well worth reading! I wish it was longer :-)

I found this book life changing and so encouraging and unbelievably helpful. Incredible stories which validate our reason for being on earth. I know so many people who will benefit from such a book. The minute I started reading my depression vanished and when I thought like Jean-Paul Sartre that everything is meaningless I realised life is the epitomy of meaning and loving.

The firsthand accounts of near death experience were extremely interesting. Although they were necessary for this type of book, some of the statistical discussion are dry and leave you looking forward to the next eyewitness account. I found it very hard to put this book down and read it in approximately 2-weeks, which for a book this size would normally have taken me twice as long. I have recommended it to several friends as well.

Based on studies of thousands of near-death experiences collected on a website created for the purpose, Dr. Jeffrey Long (a radiation cancer specialist) attempts to answer one of the most fundamental human questions of all: what happens when we die? What is distinctive about this book is that as a result of his research, Dr. Long- a trained medical doctor, with a very scientific background- has come to the very un-scientific conclusion that there is definitely life after death. Within the book he presents what he calls his 9 lines of evidence to prove that there is a conscious existence after our physical bodies have died. It is very thought provoking and makes fascinating reading, whether or not you believe in his conclusions. I recommend it for anyone with an interest in this fascinating subject, or even anyone with a terminal illness, their carers, or the recently bereaved: it may be of great comfort.

I cannot say enough for this book!! It speaks volumes. It speaks the truth!!! There is a lot of research going on out there but there are still so many skeptics. It takes so much bravery & dedication to stand up & say that you believe, after all that you have heard & seen, knowing that you may be opening yourself up to negative comments. Speaking as a person to whom this has happened, & having the medical proof to back me up, I stand firm when I say it is real. If I could wish anything in this world, it would be that everyone experience what I did, or what has been told to you in this book. However, even then, I am sure we would still have the hard headed skeptics. I was one of these skeptics, for the longest time, until I finally started to look at the evidence presented, & started to accept my own experience in 2002. This evidence came not only from what I saw & the tests that came back, on my after-effects, but on the work people like Dr. Jeff is doing.
Dr. Sam Parnia is conducting the Awareness project, which is also mentioned in this book. There has been evidence before of out-of-body, with verdical perceptions. This project is the largest & involves a representative from almost every county, Canada included, I am so very proud to say. These representatives are professional, scientific people, who look for the facts, just like Dr. Jeff has.

I understand that many of you may feel this is all "not real", & unfortunately, I too have struggled with my experience.

I contacted Dr. Jeff thinking I had totally lost my mind, after my experience & trying to deal with my after-effects. Easier to blame it on my brain, thinking something had gone wrong, than accepting it for what it was. Although as far as I know, he has not experienced a NDE himself, he was sympathetic & assured me I was not crazy. He told me of IANDS, the International Association of Near-Death Studies. He helped me understand what I had gone through...what I was still going through, from the standpoint of a professional who cares & is trying to help.

I go onto his site, weekly. I read the stories, which contain many of the same truths that I have experienced. In this tough world where people step over people trying to get ahead, or will kill a person in the name of GOD....their GOD....people that will take advantage of their own children....the list goes on....I look to Dr. Jeff's site to remind me of who we truly are. As I was told, in my latest NDE, which was very short & so I did not post on this site...."LIVE THE LIFE OF LOVE THAT YOU ARE". This message should be spread to everyone. We all come from the BIGGEST LOVE imaginable & only turn into what we are, as time goes on. We are shaped by society, our families, what is done to us. This book helps us to remember who we were, before all this "coating" on our soul/essence/spirit, that makes us do or say, the things we shouldn't. Don't point & make negative comments on something you don't understand. The many have spoken. The many have experienced.
The proof is in so much research, including this book. Open your mind. If people like Dr. Jeff hadn't taken steps likes these, we wouldn't be able to talk on the telephone, fly to another country, access info on the internet, drive to the store....wake up people. Do you really believe that you end, after your body quits? You don't! Dr. Jeff's book has helped improve my outlook, once again. Given me hope in such a sad hopeless filled world...& no, I am not some religious nut, just someone that reads the papers & listens to the news...I am also someone that analyzes things until I cannot analyze any more, to find the answers. There is so very much out there that we little humans do not know about. Let's work together & find the truth together by helping one another instead of acting like children, in this endevour. Don't stamp your feet & cry out "not good enough". Look at Dr. Jeff's work, which not only comes from his own website, reporting to you what experiencers have gone through. Look at the other research that has occurred or is still in the process, in finding answers. LOOK & THINK about what he has written. GO & RESEARCH, for yourself, before you start giving negative reviews. Dr. Jeff certainly gives you a lot of evidence & information to help you, if you so choose to do an honest research of your own.
One last comment...the book is written on the "man on the street" level. It's refreshing to someone like me, who has been doing her own research for the last decade (only for her own sanity), & has tired of having to look through the dictionary or medical books for the terms. Dr. Jeff, you speak from the heart, armed with the proof, & my heart as well as others out there, have heard you. Thank you for being our voice!

Through phenomenological accounts and quantitative analysis, this book made for a great example of mixed methods research on a topic most professionals in scientific disciplines are skeptical of. Here, Dr. Long I believe was able to amplify the works of Dr. Moody; deemed the father of NDEs by collecting a very diverse population of NDE accounts. As also noted by Dr. Moody, the similarities in accounts were then tested and analyzed objectively, proving that despite the cultural diversity; similar metaphysical accounts exist across the board. I have given up on the single author NDE books (Except Dr. Alexander's Proof of Heaven) as I find that many of them appear to be embellished and more autobiographical than of the NDE experience. Thus, a scientifically based study of NDEs are the only books of this kind I tend to accept. I gave this a 4/5 still due to the title being slightly misleading. If this was actual proof, one would expect the evidence (Seeing the afterlife) to be available to the living as well as the dead/near dead. Instead, what Dr. Long has built here is a strong case for those of faith through anecdotal rather than actual empirical support. However, through this research, I do not see why doubters should not become believers.

An interesting, in-depth review, of more than 1500 people who had Near Death Experiences. I felt it to be more factual than some others I read. The experiences of the blind patients were the most amazing. Written by a medical doctor, an Oncologist, it is very thought provoking. While I am not totally convinced of his theory, I am certainly leaning more in that direction than before I read it. I had heard him speak on the Dennis Praeger radio show and I guess this lent some authenticity to his book, in my eyes at least. If you are interested in the subject, this book is a must read.

just seemed to be the same thing over and over....nothing that was earth shattering. I expected an insight that would help me as I just lost my husband and was seeking some validation I would see him again.

The argument for life after death through near death experiences is compelling and explained in a logical way. Particularly convincing because research is being conducted by a physician. Also surprisingly close to the findings by Dr Moody decades ago. Found it an inspiring read!

The author explain in full details all methods used in his research. The results are evident and consistent with the procedures. The evidences are clearly exposed and carefully discussed. All the records based on individual information are provided in a very clear sequence. In fact, the work accomplished on this investigation evidently point to the reality of an afterlife dimension.

A very scientific and balanced review of this subject matter. Presents real life stories of persons who have crossed over the line between life and death. I highly recommend this book to add to anyone's research into this matter.
