I like Bryson. I enjoy reading his books. This one was no exception. I suppose the first thing I like about thi author, is that we both have the same attitude toward life.
Bryson did a fantastic job on this book. It tells a accurate view on American and English culture. He is not your typical travel writer.
A fine, intelligent work that will have you entertained from cover to cover.

Book arrived in excellent condition and there was no delay. I ordered 2 more copies to be sent to the States as this book was so enjoyable and my friends also received theirs in excellent condition and and in good time. Excellent service - would highly recommend.

This is such a fun read! I definitely recommend it. I was laughing throughout the entirety of the book--I kept getting weird stares from the people near me. If you're an American and you've ever traveled or lived abroad, you'll appreciate this book. It's highly entertaining! I read it on my Kindle, and it was formatted well. It does not have the text-to-speech option, however, but I don't really use that. I just wish more of his books were available for the Kindle.

Yes there are many humorous observations and bits of irony, however, I found this to have a little too much "David Barry" type writing in it. I very much enjoyed his last four travel books. His clever and insightful observations (along with the wonderful dialogues he becomes engaged in) do not work as well in this "collection of newspaper essays" format. While reading his other works, I was always sad when they were finished. I was fairly happy when this one ended.

Bill Bryson makes excellent observations about the American culture and lifestyle. As a foreigner who studied and worked in the USA for a few years I can pretty much share the author's views on life in this country. A must-read for a person coming to live in America for an extended period of time. The book is also very witty and hilarious at times.

Great book. A collection of his columns, it takes a humorous look at American culture and all it's ridiculousness. Not as awesome as his single-event stories (like A Walk In The Woods), but still made me laugh out loud many times.

Bill Bryson is insightful, hilariously funny and a brilliant writer. He infuses all of his books with little known historical facts that are always fascinating. I have not read all of his books but I definitely plan to!

I honestly enjoyed this book although I has my biases initially because I stepped out of my genre comfort zone. But the author was hilarious and lots of his complaints--i mean insight--is still valuable.

Bill Bryson has a way of making observations on life in America that is funny, interesting and at times thought provoking. Each short chapter stands on its own, so you can easily get back to the book without losing a plot.

this book is a collection of articles B.B. plublished in a british newspaper.

Most are amazingly funny - in the laugh-out-loud kind of way, and very few are slightly boring (but as they are all just a few pages long you can go through them realy fast or just skip them). I would definitely recommend this book.

Through tidbits and perfectly innocent-looking but carefully picked details, BB runs a thorough review of his birthland, imperceptly warped by his magic wand to elicit warm laughter, but gently and heartily. Bill loves his country and we love Bill.

Easy and fun to read.
This author states facts about the American government and lifestyle in a very comical sense, you would think to yourself "yes, that's true about American culture" as you laugh through each chapter.
