With action from Hong Kong to Norway to Africa, this is the best Jo Nesbo novel that I have read to date. Enjoyed this even more than the Snowman. Great characterization with enough plot twists to keep you reading to the end. The book has multiple story lines. First you have the issue of who is the killer that Hole is trying to catch. As that is happening, there is the battle between Crime Squad and Kripos over who is going lead future homicide investigations.

Wonderful writing. As per Jo Nesbo's style every twist and turn in the plot means something the reader just is never completely sure what it is. Every book in the Harry Hole series get five gold stars from me.

I really enjoy the harry Hole books. They seem to be written with lots of detail. I enjoy the scenes that take place in other countries beside Norway. The book builds in its suspense and then a very good ending.

Jo Nesbo rules. Please do yourself a favor and start at the beginning of this tremendous and shattering series. A couple of the books are being made into movies. Harry Hole will just break your heart. Hard, dangerous story lines.

Harry has to track down another diabolic serial killer while being trapped in the middle of an internal political battle in the Oslo police establishment and dealing with a dying father. Another well done by Nesbo.

Jo Nesbo does it again with this twisty, dark mystery. Harry Hole is back and just as intelligent, cunning and tortured as ever. I enjoy murder mysteries and this one had me guessing right up to the end!

Jo Nesbo has created another terrific tale in which Harry Hole (his flawed hero) chases down a serial killer. Harry tends to crash and burn on a regular basis, but you keep rooting for him to overcome his demons, and win the day. Don't miss this excellent read!

Although this book contains some dark and grisly moments, Harry Hole does not disappoint. I was actually not wanting the story to end. I had to research Leopold's Apple to satisfy my curiosity. Needless to say, Nesbo has creative genius in his fingertips.

Well written with more plot twists than you can manage. Hole trying to be clean and not clean simultaneously with all that's happening around him. This book includes politics, murder after murder, the personal relationship disasters that can only by Harry Hole, a little bit of office espionage and the eternal soul searing scenery of Norway. Impressive.

This is the Harry Hole series at its best. Unraveling the puzzle keeps you going. It might have benefitted from one fewer plot twist and 50 fewer pages, but I will be reading the next book in the series

Book was in excellent, good quality condition. Great, speedy delivery. I was very glad with the customer service. Would highly recommend. Happy to receive the book on time. Enjoyed reading it very much. Make sure to read Snowman first. Jo Nesbo is my new favorite author.

Loved the book! It has a lot of dramatic turnarounds, includiong connections eith other Harry Hole books. The Snowman is still the best to me, but this book is extremely catchy as well. As soon as I started reading I had to finish it quickly.
Highly recommended :)

This book did not hook me immediately. It was one I put down then came back to a few days later. After that I couldn't put it down. This is a great fallen hero style of Norwegian murder mystery where all the characters are deeply flawed. Half way through you are certain it's all about to wrap-up and can't understand the number of remaining pages, then the plot twists and you find yourself with the characters trying to sort through the pieces again. Now all I have to do is pluck up the guts to read the Snowman, the book preceding this one!

My husband and I really like the Harry Hole series and this book met our expectations. These stories are all a little dark but very captivating. We also like hearing about Norway, the setting for the Harry Hole mysteries.

This is the third or fourth Inspector Harry Hole novel by Jo Nesbo that I have read. It is just as good as the others - and they are all wonderful. Nesbo was recommended to me as another Scandinavian author after I had read the series that started with The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo - and his novels are indeed just as good. I highly recommend this novel and the other Harry Hole books.

I read this very shortly after reading The Snowman and am giving it one less star because structurally it began to repeat certain Nesbo tropes: plot twists, revelations and their positioning within the arc of the narrative. I began finding myself being proved right, which is always somewhat frustrating as a reader of crime fiction.

I have been impressed with Nesbo's talent since the first novel in the series... The Snowman was the best in my opinion, until I began the journey that is The Leopard. Stunningly rich characters coupled with side jaunts into background information that is never dull. The main plot (solving the serial killer crime spree) is back stopped by the machinations of internal politics of crime fighting inside the Norwegian justice system.
Fascinating.
Harry Hole is the ultimate tragic hero. You live in his mind as he makes his way through the investigation, gaining insight into what makes him tick. You also live and experience the terror of victims, the killer, and pick your way through the tangled, but believable structure of the case.
I will think about this one for a while.

Nesbo is an extremely good writer who knows how to prolong suspense for the reader.
Also, I find the alcoholic detective Harry Hole very interesting. Despite his addiction, his detective thinking is clear. It is fascinating to see how his former boss enabled him for so many years.

After having read almost everything Jo Nesbo has written I can only conclude that, once again, he wrote a gripping novel. My sympathy for the main protagonist is unchanged. Once again Oslo is the hometown but the story takes you to different continents. Harry Hole has his own private problems but Nesbo manages to put Harry's professional aim - catching the bad guy - on the highest level in a very convincing way. In enjoyed it.

Not quite on a par with The Snowman, perhaps, but still excellent.
This tightly plotted thriller kept me guessing and in thrall to the author's vision as Hole's suspicions shifted from character to character.
A must read for fans of the series: but if you want to start the series, I suggest beginning with Redbreast or Nemesis: the former is the earliest translated work in the series, the latter its much more readable successor.
