This book is actually a course on the underlying causes of weight issues. I was at a point in my life where I kept gaining back whatever I lost and eventually I gave up. This book was written with love and it helped me to understand what my blocks to permanent weight loss were and how to do the work necessary to remove them. As a result of doing the course work given in this book and acting on what I was learning about myself I lost a total of 45 pounds! This book is not a diet or exercise book but rather a book to help you get to the heart of the issue of ones weight issues so that change can occur.

I have only read the first three chapters. It will take me a long time to read the entire book because Marian requires the reader to submit a journal and surrender your thoughts onto yourself. This will take some time but I am willing to do it. So a review request needs to be reasked in about one year.

This book is wonderful for adding a different approach to looking at ourselves. The methods are proven and true. The exercises are meant for our inner thinking and how we look at ourselves. I also approve the chapter on AA twelve steps approach and how it interacts with the concept of this book. if you are a "Unity" student you will see how these steps are so good in improving your life not just your weight.

No, this is not a nutritional guide. As the title implies, it addresses the feelings and emotions surrounding weight gain our eating habits. If you've dieted for any period of time, by now you know the facts - eat less and you will lose weight. This book is something different.

This is one of the most spiritual and amazing books I've ever read on weight loss. I recommend it for any one who has had an issue with their weight. It's not just about food or losing weight, it's about how you view yourself and your place in this universe. Brought me closer to my authentic self and my higher power. I just adore Marianne Williamson...hope you are as moved by it as I have been.

I was not impressed with the type of binding & cover for this book, so wasn't sure what to expect. Clearly, this is a book not to be judged by its cover. If you're really interested in attacking the demons that keep you from losing the weight or that caused you to re-gain the weight you worked so hard to lose, well, this book creates a way for you to start. I have had nagging ideas in the back of my mind for most of my life, and doing the work in this book helped me finally let the "truth" of some early events come out and wow - insight into some perplexing habits! And now I don't even have the urge to repeat that habit because I know it won't help anymore (not that it did before, but I was fooled into thinking there was value in that bad habit). It's like doing your own personal therapy. I recommend that you do this work with a supportive group or facilitator.

I love this book! Anyone who has struggled with weight and or food issues I strongly recommend this book.
The ideas presented really do work!! I purchased both the book and the CD and used the two together.

I wish I could meet Marianne Williamson. She is my gentle hero, even though she writes like a warrior. Everything she says is true, and everything she says is directed toward the essence of or use of or concept of love. Now she is talking to me through this book as if we are face-to-face about an aspect of my earthness that needs gentle, loving correction, and showing me how to let go of an undesirable part of me. Thank you, Marianne!

I'm not very worship and prayer oriented, and also, only rather, not extremely, overweight, so I was a little taken aback by how prominent a role God plays in this self help book, and the drastic characterizations of the problem. Ms. Williams does try to use a broader vocabulary to speak of God ( Higher Power type thing), but it still had, for me, an almost fundamentalist tone. But the recommendations and premises do make great sense: that food issues reflect spiritual as well as psychological malaise, that will power alone is not enough to get you to become and stay thin, and that, in order to fundamentally change your relationship with food, meditation, support from other persons, trying to give over fears and control to some other agency, and the development of reverence for self and food, are all necessary. Read out loud, even in Ms. Williams lulling voice, the book has a little of the tone of a Salvation Army lecture on how to get off the streets by finding God. Also, there are excercises at the end of each "lesson" that are hard to remember if you are hearing it while, say, driving. So, it seems like this book would be more useful and successful in book form, especially as you could then skip over some of the fairly repetitive material.

In typical Marianne Williamson style, this book is an awesome tool for learning to love oneself, letting go of emotional garbage and subsequently losing weight. I have been an admirer of her writing and subject matter since Return to Love and A Woman's Worth. I am further realizing how much "stuff" I carry with me and she is helping me to release it. I've attended a few of Williamson's lectures in Los Angeles and am so grateful for her presence in the world at this time. This is wonderful reading for anyone, not just those who want to lose weight. Thank you, the store, for helping me to obtain this book at such a reasonable price!

I absolutely love this book because it has given me a fresh new perspective. Marianne clearly explains the real reason our bodies have become out of balance and gives guidance on how to remedy the situation. Our bodies may exhibit loss of balance by holding onto excess weight or by the appearance of health issues. The cause of each of these...the excess weight or the less than perfect health-is still the same. Our bodies are our guides and Marianne explains how to access the wisdom that is held inside. Brilliant. It has been a turning point in my life to be working with the principles in this book. I'm so glad to have found my way to this book.

This course really delivers. It takes self examination and commitment but gets at the REASONS we gain weight and helps to solve them once and for all so you can get off the roller coaster of gaining and losing.

I think we all know that the struggle with weight loss has little to do with what we eat or how much we move. The problem is that most of us don't realize that the core of the matter is our lack of love for self. Williamson's book gets to the core of the issue and doesn't cut any corners doing it. You will be blessed by reading and embracing the teachings within this book.

This is a clearly religious book. That is fine, no problem, but I was expected what the cover says - spiritual. Maybe it's a confusion with various terms and various individuals, but this is clearly a religious book that is far preachier than I wanted or would like.

Powerful images that have changed my (weight) and my life - breaking down the "brick wall" of weight that surrounded me is a fabulous metaphor for my rationale of doing violence to myself through food. Highly recommend this book!
