Review:The Sword of Shannara was an epic fantasy, but it is the Elfstones of Shannara that is the reason why we love fantasy. The conflict of love and duty transposed against a background of good versus evil is just too good. Wil is probably the most human of all of Brook's characters and to be honest, one of the most believable. The ending tugs at the heartstrings because after reading the whole book, it accomplishes what a good story should do-makes you root for the hero. Sad, but refreshing to h... Read more
Review:These books are entertaining with great characters, a great plot, and good adventures. As with other books by this author I find that I skip over several pages at a time when the characters reminisce, when their minds wander to retell the story, or the scenery becomes extremely descriptive . The book could do with at least 100 less pages and still be as good. Read more
Review:The Penric stories are quite good! There's some "nasty" violence in here, but it isn't explicitly described.
The ending is ... indicative of another story to come; not exactly a cliffhanger, but not a real ending either. Read more
Review:Couldn't put it down! Sanderson is a vivid storyteller that holds the imaginative theme, characters and events together even as he takes the reader into a magical realm that bursts with color!

Review:I read the Everyman's Library Glenny Translation.
This is a mixture of the bizarre and the familiar. The writing itself is a bit of both, the story subject is a bit of both and the characters are a bit of both. I thoroughly enjoyed the 'flashbacks' and almost wish the whole story was just those events, but I also enjoyed the chaotic and seemingly random way the modern part of the story developed, not that I even fully understood it all, mayhaps a second read is in order. It is not a di... Read more
Review:I skipped many parts of the book due to repetition and the painfully slow pacing of the story. I didn't care about, or like, any of the characters, gods, or otherwise. They were mean, pathetic, and weak until the last moment and by then, I didn't care. Mean father, mean neighbor, mean boss, mean mother-in-law-to-be, mean girlfriend (used him to annoy her mother but didn't love him). His so called brother/alter ego...mean. I didn't care if they changed. I did like the ghost, however. She was ... Read more
Review:I bought this as a gift for my husband, who has read and enjoyed some of Gaiman's other work (e.g., American Gods). This book of short stories was a departure from what he had previously read, but he liked it so much he read it all in an afternoon. If you are familiar with Gaiman and enjoy his writing style, this book will not disappoint. Recommended. Read more
Review:This is an exemplary novel written by an amazing author. It is a collection of short stories that will grip your imagination and draw you into the story. Paper books give you three Sensory delights. Digital media will NEVER compare. Read more
Review:A read the entire Drizzit saga, and it`s been a while since Salvatore lost the ability to amaze. But he is still a very goor writer and this one is a definitely up in the ups and downs of his more recent novels. Read more
Review:We should all strive to live as honorably as Salvatore's greatest hero. Drizzt's essays are profoundly moving and thought provoking. If I were to judge R.A. Salvatore by the philosophies and teachings in his Drizzt series, I could only conclude that he is a great man indeed.
In all the years my husband has praised these fantasy novels, I never imagined that they would invoke so much awe and respect. At long last I have succumbed to my husband's pleas and after reading this trilogy I finally u... Read more
