The Redemption of Althalus
The Redemption of Althalus

Review:I've read this book countless times. I've also read the other Eddings' books. Personally, I think this is their best. The Eddings' have a knack for outdoing themselves, but this one was outstanding!

I've read several of the reviews that this book has gotten here and I can't believe some of the stuff they say against it! The only two main points that are continuously repeated lead me to believe that they simply didn't understand the complexity of what the Eddings' were doing and that they ... Read more

Guardians of the West (The Malloreon, Book 1)
Guardians of the West (The Malloreon, Book 1)

Review:I think the real beauty of Eddings' books is the fact that there's always something happening. It's not the normal straight-line plot where they go after something, get it, and come back, but there are lots of little side-stories that make the book interesting.
I first read the Malloreon and after that read the Belgariad, and I still understood most of it. Reading the Belgariad first helps, but it's not a must. And when you do start reading Malloreon, after the first couple of chapters ... Read more

Magician's Gambit - Queen of Sorcery
Magician's Gambit - Queen of Sorcery

Review:I bought this book after reading a lot of good reviews about it.
But I can't seem to get into it. I made it to the beginning of the second book and then I stopped.
It is just not interesting.
All the way through the first book, the only character that evolves is Garion. And he's thoughts are shared with us all the time. The only problem is that they are a child's thought and are not that interesting.
Everything from the dialogs, to the setting and the very few combat scenes is so pla... Read more

Pawn of Prophecy (Belgariad)
Pawn of Prophecy (Belgariad)

Review:There's a lot to like about 'Pawn of Prophecy' - it's jam-packed with hooks and is a real page-turner kind of fantasy, with lots of humour and secrets woven into the plot. There are some pretty classic archetypes in the characters and it's very satisfying to see Garion grow across the book (and series).

The first Eddings novel I read, it's short enough that I imagine the publisher chopping up a trilogy into five books, but they're all good so I don't mind in the end, and it's still good u... Read more

Belgarath the Sorcerer (The Belgariad & The Malloreon)
Belgarath the Sorcerer (The Belgariad & The Malloreon)

Review:There are many who recommend reading Belgarath the Sorcerer only after you have read the Belgariad and the Mallorean series. However, David Eddings isn't one of them. In a foreword to the 2005 publication of Malloreon, Eddings tells us that "the reader can go directly from the end of Polgara to the beginning of Pawn." And before Polgara there was, of course Belgarath. He is, after all, her father.

In any event, that is exactly the order in which I am reading the series and, truth be to... Read more

Apprentice (Riftwar Cycle - The Riftwar Saga)
Apprentice (Riftwar Cycle - The Riftwar Saga)

Review:Grow up to fight the dark lord with your best mate, but gotta stop that alien invasion first.

Feist takes a fantasy epic that it seems grew out of his own fantasy roleplaying games, and gives the standard plot a pit of a tweak. While there is your evil dark lord figure to deal with, there is also an alien invasion (but of humans from a different culture, technology and type of magic).

One boy ends up in the other world with a touch of Shogun, learning magic, while the other ens up... Read more

Polgara the Sorceress (Malloreon)
Polgara the Sorceress (Malloreon)

Review:I have read this book, and though it presents an interesting side of the story, it did not fill in many gaps. Infact, it seemed like an edition of CNN's Crossfire. Polgara seems to spend more time complaining about her father than was needed.
The problem is that I have never liked the character of Polgara. She came across as cold, arrogant, and one dimensional. Instead of hearing Polgara's side, I think it would have been more interesting to hear Poledra's side. She did "die" and y... Read more

Enchanters' End Game - The Belgariad - Vol. 2 (Books 4 & 5)
Enchanters' End Game - The Belgariad - Vol. 2 (Books 4 & 5)

Review:David Eddings has definitely earned his name in writing. I have read many of his books and I don't plan on stopping until I have read them all. I strongly recommend reading his books if you are a fantasy lover. Read more

Castle of Wizardry (The Belgariad, Book 4)
Castle of Wizardry (The Belgariad, Book 4)

Review:Story and series is superb. Unfortunately the editing leaves much to be desired. It appears that this edition was never properly spell checked prior to release. I compared it to my print editions on some of the worse of the misspellings. They were absent in the print versions. I am giving it a 1 strictly on technical reasons in the hope it might goad the author and publisher to cleanup this edition. I seriously considered asking for a refund due to the defects. Read more

Enchanters' End Game (The Belgariad, Book 5)
Enchanters' End Game (The Belgariad, Book 5)

Review:I tried reading the 5 books years ago and gave up. I have now read them all in 2 weeks. A great story full of surprises and intrigue. Very much worth the wait but you need to immerse yourself in the whole thing. Excellent books all of the 5! Read more
