Dead Man's Walk
Dead Man's Walk

Review:Dead Man's Walk is a prequel to the Larry McMurtry's masterwork, Lonesome Dove. Written years after the first book was released, it introduces the unforgettable characters Gus McCrae, the talkative and energetic Texas Ranger and his strong and silent best friend, Woodrow Call as young men, decades before the events depicted in Lonesome Dove. This novel - like many of the McMurtry's books - is about a journey, as the young Rangers join an ill-fated expedition of adventurers who set out to conqu... Read more

The Last Kind Words Saloon: A Novel
The Last Kind Words Saloon: A Novel

Review:I only made it halfway through this book before I gave up out of boredom. The only thing that kept me reading that long was the banter between Wyatt and Doc. Typical of a McMurtry story, there's a lot of death going on, both animal and human, and that got old quickly. The story is so slight that I got the impression he was just writing this one for the paycheck. Revisionist history, in this case, doesn't make for an enjoyable read. Read more

Comanche Moon (Lonesome Dove Story, Book 2)
Comanche Moon (Lonesome Dove Story, Book 2)

Review:While many underground cartoonists of the `60s and `70s focused their stories on counter-cultural issues of the time, writer/artist Jack Jackson headed in the other direction, bringing the stories of early Texas personalities to life. COMANCHE MOON tells the epic story of Cynthia Ann Parker and her famed son, Quanah. Set during the final days of the Comanche, who once roamed from the Kansas Territory to central Texas, it is a fascinating and moving historical portrait.

At age 9, Cynthia... Read more

Lost souls was boring.
I paid $27.00 with a 20% discount and read it in a day and a half. It was too short and left us hanging a bit to much.

Leaving Independence
Leaving Independence

Review:This was a wonderful book. The author did a great job developing the characters and the story line. I read the book 3 times and each time I found something I missed. There is very little profanity. I hope the author will write many sequels and carry on the same character's. I didn't want the book to end. Read more

Wolf's Head (The Forest Lord Book 1)
Wolf's Head (The Forest Lord Book 1)

Review:First of all, those who haven't heard about Robin Hood, please raise your hands! ... No one? You sure? Okay, let's move on then.

I won't waste your time introducing you the characters, because, let's face it, there is no one who never heard about the outlaws who were something like folktale heroes, constantly making a fool of nobles, robbing money and food so they could stay alive, but also to give back something to the villagers. Just search for his name on Goodreads and will find a shit... Read more

The Girls of Ennismore
The Girls of Ennismore

Review:Both of the girls in this story are raised very differently but throughout the book we can see how similar they actually are. They both dream of love and family but have to go down a very twisted path to find their dreams. Read more

The Accidental Empress: A Novel
The Accidental Empress: A Novel

Review:This is a wonderful book enabling escapist historical novel time travel. It whetted my appetite to learn more about Sisi and the era. Some more editing would have been helpful though - titles like "her/your majesty" / "her/your highness" (for example) are incorrectly used interchangeably when they are specific to rank. Also the author uses the term "tuxedo" in places to describe men's formal wear ....again, "tuxedo" is a specific, tail-free garment that one would not have seen at the Austrian co... Read more

Queen Hereafter: A Novel of Margaret of Scotland
Queen Hereafter: A Novel of Margaret of Scotland

Review:This historical, romantic novel is a page turner and I loved it. It is based on twelfth century history in Scotland and Northumbria of England in a war between Norman William the Conqueror and King Malcolm (Canmore) of Scotland. Princess Margaret of England, along with her father, mother, sister and brother Prince Edgar the Aetheling, had fled to the royal court of Hungary, an extremely pious Catholic nation for sanctuary, but Margaret's father was called back to England and shortly thereafter ...
