Wards of Faerie: The Dark Legacy of Shannara
Wards of Faerie: The Dark Legacy of Shannara

Review:Wards of Faerie
I will place my review with this, the first book in the series, although I went on to read the second and third books in the series also. The series is aptly named as the "Dark Legacy of Shannara." These volumes are indeed dark. They are even somewhat depressing at times. Most of the lead characters are slain in the books. Quite a few of the characters are very evil, including the Straken Lord, and later Grianne Ormsford, who becomes a new Straken Lord. Stoon, an assassin, is... Read more

Penric's Demon: Penric & Desdemona Book 1
Penric's Demon: Penric & Desdemona Book 1

Review:I loved this little book! I've read everything Bujold has written as soon as I could find it. Her writing is so good. Her descriptions of the people and places in this world she created are so layered and interesting. I like the people very much, especially the goodness and kindness of the most central characters. The Hallowed Hunt (Chalion series)
The Hallowed Hunt (Chalion series)

Review:I was greatly intrigued by the characters in The Curse of Chalion, and enjoyed the new twists added in The Paladin of Souls, but this third volume is mostly just "more of the same", and disappointing in comparison. Still, though, there are some new ideas, and Lois McMaster Bujold is always good in comparison to most other writers. If you liked either of the first two you should read it. Read more

1805 (Richard Sharpe's Adventure Series #4) - Richard Sharpe & the Battle of Trafalgar
1805 (Richard Sharpe's Adventure Series #4) - Richard Sharpe & the Battle of Trafalgar

Review:I haven’t read many of the Sharpe’s books, but I picked this one up to see what I could learn about Trafalgar. Well, I certainly got an eyeful, as expected! What I didn’t expect was how long it took to get there; we had to go through about 2/3 of the book before everything was in place. Since Sharpe is a landlubber, it took some doing to position him on a ship, but naturally Cornwell worked it all out and Sharpe was able to contribute his strong arm to the fighting scenes. We had a romance, too,... Read more

The Fort: A Novel of the Revolutionary War
The Fort: A Novel of the Revolutionary War

Review:The fort is another great book by Bernard Cornwell. If you want to understand what life was like or serving in either army competing in long ago wars was like this is your author. You will love his main characters like they were your own family. Great sub plots. Amazing how accurately history is told while being entertained. In my option one of the top fiction authors ever. Sharpe's Tiger (Richard Sharpe's Adventure Series #1)
Sharpe's Tiger (Richard Sharpe's Adventure Series #1)

Review:This is the first Sharpe novel I've read and what a mistake it was to wait so long. My general avoidance of fiction, especially of the serial nature, caused me to foolishly ignore this series. Sharpe's Tiger was a mixed blessing: Yes, I loved the book, but as another reviewer warned, I am now addicted. Thankfully, I picked the right book to start with, this being the first chronologically in Sharpe's military career.
Now, rather than go into detail about the plot and characters (which have... Read more
