Review:Marvels is a wonderful story of living in the Marvel Universe while magnificent and terrifying things happen around you. Told from the perspective of a photojournalist, Marvels tells how it is to live in a world where grand battles and fantastic figures are everyday occurrences. Beautifully painted by Alex Ross, and deftly told by Kurt Busiek with tremendous effort for continuity and preservation of established history, Marvels is a true spectacle of comic art.

Shattered Empire (Star Wars (Marvel)) - Journey to Star Wars
Shattered Empire (Star Wars (Marvel)) - Journey to Star Wars

Review:Shattered Empire is a series of loosely connected tales focusing on varying characters from the Original Trilogy era and beyond (including Poe's parents). Great writing, beautiful art, and meaningful tales make this well worth picking up... for both hardcore fans and newcomers alike. I can't say much about the stories as it's quite easy to spoil the experience, but I will say that you will see Leia connect with her mother on a small scale, see Luke in action as a Jedi Knight, meet Poe Dameron's... Hark! A Vagrant
Hark! A Vagrant

Review:Kate Beaton's style is bound to become a classic, if it hasn't already. I love everything she does, from the historical insights and literary parodies, to the Gorey covers, to the pirate and gangster stories. I'd already read all of her comics on her website, but I am still so glad I purchased this book, because it's a whole different experience to flip through it and also to show it to friends. I should have bought it sooner. Read more

Fables: The Deluxe Edition Book One
Fables: The Deluxe Edition Book One

Review:This comes with the Bigby War Stories & Mean Seasons story arcs... Along with 1001 Nights of Snowfall. Now don't get me wrong it's all great, it's just Mean Seasons is the only arc that actually pushes the story forward, and that's only 4 issues. So you get plenty more Fables, but not much more for the ongoing story. For that, see Book 5 (Best arc so far is in that!). But if you love Fables this is an obvious buy. Read more

Fables: The Deluxe Edition Book Four

Review:I love what he has done with these childhood stories. He's made them GROW UP just like we who have listened to the stories all this time have grown up. It's fantastic and hilarious and shocking. Great job, man. Read more

A Nation Under Our Feet Vol. 1 (Black Panther (2016-2018))
A Nation Under Our Feet Vol. 1 (Black Panther (2016-2018))

Review:Black Panther has always been a deep character. Ta-Nehisi Coates has elevated the scope of the characters story to one that invites the reader to dive deeply into the culture of Wakandan life and does not seek to gloss over the land as utopian but a completely developed country, full of intrigue, intelligence and yes sometimes violence. Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 1
Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 1

Review:Nice art, very similar to Adam Hughes. Story is bland and nothing new. Same old Paradise Island origin story with a bunch of PC elements thrown in to seem hip and edgy. Morrison doesn't add anything worthwhile here. So basically art is nice, story and concept is boring and trite. This seems more like a throwaway run by a fill in creative crew for the monthly series, not a graphic trade edition. Read more

Earth One (Superman (DC Comics Numbered))
Earth One (Superman (DC Comics Numbered))

Review:Straczynski's second volume picks up nicely where the first leaves off, both humanizing and distancing the Kryptonian in such a unique fashion, it's almost stunning to think that is hasn't been down before now. Truly a great read. Kudos to Straczynski for making the Man of Steel relevant again. Read more

Final Crisis (New Edition) (Batman by Grant Morrison series)
Final Crisis (New Edition) (Batman by Grant Morrison series)

Review:Final Crisis had its good moments, for example: The justice league investigating a murder of a high level entity, a cool motivating scene with Black Lightning and his "rescue" mission, and some Batman cameos. However, there were numerous parts where I did not know what the heck was going on. I was introduced to characters I never heard of. Perhaps I'm new to this but I felt that I had to do a lot of investigating to understand what was going on. I did not enjoy this read. I would suggest borrowi... Read more
