Review:I pride myself on completing books. Once I start a novel I complete it, even if I am not a fan. This is the first book I’m putting down. I read the rave reviews, saw it’s a winner of the Pulitzer Prize and was getting ready to love it. But it’s slow and painful. There is no comedy. It’s a novel of a broken man. I’m on page 65 and cannot bring myself to continue. It’s just one long sob story of numerous failed relationships. Too many descriptions and metaphors without enough substance. Maybe ther... Review:Listen, you aren't here because you stumbled on to a drag queen's book by the grace of Tati. You are here because 1) you think Willam owes you money or 2) you know what to expect. Prepare to read the book front to back, then top to bottom, and better yourself. To suck less. No false advertising here. You might even find aspects of your life where you didn't even know you sucked. So put your pants on, or take them off, and pay the "woman" for her services. Leave it on your coffee table, or just t... Read more
Review:They say that "Go Tell It on the Mountain" is the book that James Baldwin had to right before he could right anything else. Like Job, Baldwin bears witness to the struggles of everyday African Americans in the era of Jim Crow.
In this particular novel, he looks at the effects from a number of different viewpoints, whether as a man struggling to find his identity in New York City, or a woman who was raped by a group of white men in the South.
The book meanders between reality and re... Read more
Review:What to say...I have a new auto-buy author (and those are very few these days). Not often a fan historical fiction, this story grabbed my attention and didn't let go. I immediately snatched up the sequel and eagerly await the third installment this fall. Read more
Review:Re-read the earlier books in prep for release of Kings Rising. Read it in two days and I've been re-reading sections since. Can we get Nikandros' story please? The ease of his longstanding friendship with Damianos was one of my favorite things.
Overall a great trilogy that I'll never tire of pulling out time and time again. Brava to Ms. Pacat. Read more
Review:After reading the two books, somehow, i felt disappointed in the sense that i can feel the coldness of the main character (Laurent) through the part where they first made love. Fine...I can understand that there were not any (hot) scenes concerning both of them but on the second book... somehow, i expected it to be hot when they first did it. But it totally failed me. It may not be as very visual as compared to the other books that I've read before, but c'mon... this is already the second book. ... Read more
Review:I used to read a lot of slash fiction online, but haven't done so in the past eight years or so.. I'm sorry that I missed Captive Prince the first time around, when it was originally published in serial form on Livejournal. It's still available free online, but I bought both volumes in ebook format after reading the first chapter - this first-time author is most definitely worthy of your support!
Yes, the overwhelming 5-star reviews are REAL! This is an amazing story, the best I've read i... Read more
Review:It is a nice journal. The cover is just as it appears here. It is a larger than average size journal. The only thing I didn't like was the pages have a name at the bottom of each page or her website or something. I gave it as a gift so I can't look back at it but I remember being surprised it was on each page. Read more
Review:I'm speechless. I wasn't expecting what I got out of this book. I thought this was going to be a fun read, but it was much more. This book has me all in my feelings. I can't wait for the next book. I need to know how this plays out. Read more
Review:Clarke's portrait of Truman was spellbinding. The descriptions of what he was like in his youth and in the early years of his successful career were amazingly vivid. I fell in love with Truman just as everyone did in those days. I was enchanted and then so very sad. Read more
