Review:If you’re looking for the best take on the human side of this disaster, this is the one. Ms. Slade gives an intimate look at a number of the players involved; the mariners, the corporate employees and later, the investigative personnel. The bile will rise in your throat as you come to this conclusion: that, as usual in this country, it all comes down to money. Thirty-three lives were lost because the company exerted pressure on these merchant marines to get to their destination on time on a vess... Read more
Review:A well-written book and poignant for those of us who grew up there. It very accurately reflects life there in the 1940s and 50s. I left in 1960, long before all hell broke lose in that lovely little town, and the story leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. Still, if the business could have been somehow restructured with more automation - yes, fewer jobs - the company might have been viable. The unspoken (and unwritten) part of the story is that if a industrial worker can become reasonably profic... Read more
Review:This book is easy to follow, has a nice syntactical and grammatical flow, and is full of optimism. However, I believe the title is a little misleading, as it doesn't deal with using the computer in general to make money. Rather, it is about only one way to use your computer to make money: SEO writing. Read more

Review:A good Ken Burns view of our National Parks. Lots of how they came to be and what's there. But not really meant to be a tourist's guide. I think a good book to read before going but not necessarily a guide as to what to see. Nevertheless a good reference about one of the US most profound uses of its land, something that does not happen in any other country or continent, rivaled only by Africa Read more
Review:As someone who wasn't very familiar with the nuances of the blogging world, or the incentive structure, I'd say that this was an eye opener. If you're an average content consumer, this book will change how you feel about what you read on the internet. You might become a bit cynical about it all. If you're someone trying to get your content "up there," it will show you some strategy to accomplish that. If you're a seasoned blogger, you might know much of what Ryan talks writes about. Nonetheless,... Read more
Review:Fascinating story of the excessive culture of Wall Street.
Turney Duff was a hugely successful trader until it all came crashing down as he sunk further and further into his addiction.
His redemption and his great writing ability make this a great read. Read more
Review:There isn't anything new in this book, it's a repackaging of ideas developed by better authors. She rips off more then half of the material and relabeled it as her ideas never crediting the original author. The story telling is weak, mostly self aggrandizement of the authors education, world travels, and positions held in prominent companies. It's a parade of self appointed awesomeness. Do yourself, and your credibility a favor by passing up on this hack. Read more
Review:Mr Schultz writes a great story about a fantastic company that got itself in a bad space. More interesting is how he turned it all around. The story is easy to read and informative and has given me loads of inspirational ideas on how to effect change in businesses I am involved in. Read more
Review:There are a lot of longform pieces on the sharing economy. Most of them have so much overlap though that I rarely learn much after reading them. Brad Stone has the benefit of an entire book to move beyond the background that any writer has to share on the subject, and tell a more detailed story, and he does so magnificently.
The hallmark of any Brad Stone book is copious research. He finds stories from every angle on every company he writes about. This book is no exception. We learn about... Read more
