Review:As a Heinlein fan and a lover of classic sci fi, I was happy to find this (especially after having seen all the good reviews). Then oh so disappointed. This is basically the diary of a young Martian lady, her younger brother occasionally adds comments. The story starts out inane and repetitive, then becomes dismally boring and finally just dismal. If anyone else had written it, I would not have bothered to finish. What a waste of time and money. Read more
Review:There are many aspects to this book that is not meant to be taken seriously. Except for one thing: Heinlein, I think, knew a lot about cats. I finally got my first cat six years ago and she is not quite like Petronius the Arbiter, Pete for short, in the book. Since I got her from a shelter, she had to be neutered, an absolute no-no for Pete (and, perhaps, Heinlein's own cats).
I enjoyed all the passages where Pete is present and active the most. OK, time travel back and forth twice (not e... Read more
Review:What can I say.
I've loved this book since high school when I first read it.
I really is a good look at the society we live in and how many thing that seem like they're disparate are really all part of a much larger web.
A good read for anyone that like science fiction or insight into how the world operates. Read more
Review:Very early Heinlein. Story of a small group of patriotic scientists in a conquered United States trying to come up with a way to fight their overlords. With Yankee ingenuity and scientific inventiveness, can they succeed when the entire might
of the U.S. military failed? An important addition to your Heinlein collection. Read more
Review:This novel, published in 1951, is incredibly entertaining as well as chilling. It's about an alien invasion where the aliens attach themselves to the backs of humans and control them. It's similar to Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Star Trek's "Operation: Annihilate" and I wondered if they were inspired by Heinlein's book.
I loved the three main characters. Sam "Elihu" Nivens grows from a womanizing operative to a married man in love. He eventually takes over as head of the Special Dep... Read more
Review:Be careful with this book because it's not really a book by Robert Heinlein. It's an adaptation that does not do justice to the great author. The book is seriously damaged by a long political ranting scene at the end clearly meant to be nothing but criticism of the war in Iraq. Politics or personal feelings aside, it really ruined the book and left a very bad taste in my mouth. The rant was unnecessary. Looking at it almost ten years after the book was written, the rant also badly dated the b... Read more
Review:A classic Robert Heinlein tale mixing science fiction and social metaphors. He deals with racism by turning the standard white and black paradigm of the 1950's on it's head. And manages an interesting tale at the same time. Read more
Review:I was a big fan of reading in my youth in the 70's, and Robert Heinlein's "adolescent" books were a wonderful segue into more serious stuff as I grew older.
Tunnel in the Sky, Have Spacesuit, Will Travel and Starship Troopers are all excellent books and would serve any younger reader well. Read more
Review:Although dated (and what isn't dated today), this is another great book by Heinlein. I remember finding this book in the school library when I was a kid and never forgot reading it from cover to cover. Now I am sharing it with my kids. Great adventure! Read more
