Review:This brilliant book was highly controversial when it came out, and for good reason. It calls into question much of what is generally accepted in mainstream, traditional Christianity--including the notion that Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, and that he never married.
Beautifully written and incredibly well-researched, this is a must-read for any biblical scholar who is not afraid of alternate theories RE Jesus' life. A fascinating read, and it's obvious that Dan Brown's work ... Read more
Review:I enjoyed reading about notable Christians of the past, some I am familiar with and others not. I did, however, find my mind wandering as I was still reading the words. I wouldn't say I would recall very well what I read for the most part. Read more
Review:Thomas Cahill's "Sailing the Wine-Dark Sea: Why the Greeks Matter" is another in his series of books entitled "The Hinges of History" in which he focuses on an historical civilization and tries to show their impact and relevance on the modern Western world, all written for a general audience. This is a very shallow and unenlightening survey of Greek culture, tinged with some annoyances of Cahill's writing.

Review:Thorough examination of potential causes of the end of the Late Bronze Age sans arrogant assumptions or condescending references. Builds on previous work without discounting any and provides multiple points of view. Read more
Review:The book, "Barking to the Choir" is a spectacularly moving book. I wrote notes on many of the pages as I read the book. In fact, I was so mesmerized, I purchased five more copies to give to others. The messages of the book deeply reached me personally and for the work that I do. Read more
Review:HEDGES HAS THE DEPTH OF EXPERIENCE TO OBSERVE THE SAD SITUATION IN AMERICA. I WAS BLOWN AWAY AT HOW GOOD HE IS EXPLAINING THINGS THAT I HAD NO ANSWERS FOR,
HE IS MUCH LIKE HOWARD ZINN AND NOAM CHOMSKY, BUT CHRIS HAS "BEEN THERE" Read more
Review:I watched the movie then decided I really need to know more. This story is amazing! It is written in his own words. The fact that this man could write about all the terrible things done to him and not have a bitter attitude about it really speaks about the value of forgiveness. Forgiveness frees us to live and not be ruled by those who have hurt us. Also the journal entries of Wilm Hosenfeld are extremely interesting. Very worthwhile reading! Read more
Review:The information contained in the book is very interesting and enlightening in terms of the history of early Jewish settlers in parts of the Caribbean (mostly Jamaica), but it does not discuss anything relating to swashbuckling pirates of what one expects from the movies. Read more
Review:Having memories of growing up in Leander and knowing Major Jennings Hegar as a kid, I was excited to go on her journey of memoir to remember and learn about this woman who once was a girl we ALL knew to be the best in our class. Her author's note promised to show us how women in combat don't have to "shrink in fear when the bullets fly" and set the bar high for her book, but in the end the washout came for me in her inability to keep the flow of her important story at the forefront. I felt like ... Read more
