Review:There was a great deal of detail about troop placements and maneuvers but lacked eyewitness accounts and experiences. Seemed like a general behind the lines describing the battle rather than someone going through the battle. I am sure it was very accurate but was missing the sense of someone there. Did not finish the book. Read more
Review:The third and final book of the Three Body Problem series. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and it was a fitting end to the series. These books have been very different from the science fiction I'm used to reading, and I'm excited to read Ken Liu's upcoming collection of Chinese sci-fi, Invisible Planets. Read more
Review:I'm a David Weber fan. You'll find a different universe here if your a Honor Harrington reader. Writing style is close enough that I pretty much skip the long dialog sections, they are predictable if you've read Weber before. Still a good story with some engaging characters. I always keep a few like this on my Kindle so I've got something to read when life takes me to some queue where I have nothing else to do. Read more
Review:Really nicely done military fiction with good character development, strong ideas and a pseudo realistic technology progression. In other words what's become standard fare for fans of David weber. But the entire book pales to the last paragraph. Don't cheat tho....... Read more
Review:Each successive book in this series tells less of a story then the previous one. This book could have been summarized in about 50 pages without any loss of information. Will the process eventually converge, or should we expect a new, ever more diluted book every year till Langhorne comes? Read more
Review:All David Weber fans should enjoy this book. It's a great continuation of his safehold series. If I had to choose one thing to complain about it would be the extremely detailed explanations of sailing that occur at certain points. As most people don't have the interest to follow those details it can become tiresome. Read more
Review:I'm going to give this one 4 stars - if you are reading this review you are more then likely already familiar with the series. your main question is probably - does the overall plot actually move at all in this one or is it just a lot of detailed period warfare and discussions on re-invented technology? Trust me I understand - for a writer that is so very good at interesting character driven plot and dialogue Mr. Weber has really been putting us through a lot of . . . other stuff. Well, in an... Review:Great story. I have read it 5 or 6 times. It is like an old friend. Very well written. I marked "some violence" but it is definitely story violence, and not realistic violence. (Like fighting fictional dragons as opposed to fighting people.) Read more
Review:Outstanding!! This series was a work of narrative art in the best kick ass way imaginable. A lot of great character development across all three books. Expect to get twisted around at some points in the series but the authors know exactly where it's going all the way along. The payoffs are well worth it. Can't wait for book four but book one is a fantastic start to this series. Read more
Review:The entire book is actually nothing but a chase after a single piece of information. We got some nice action, some lovely scenery, the usual assortment of Eccentric and outright weird Minds, Drones and humans and even some background on how the Culture came to be, but one kept wondering what the point was. The comparison to Excession is actually too kind: here the personalities of the Minds don't even get to shine through - in Excession, the, um, Excession was a big effing deal. Here, the chase ...
