The Eyes of the Dragon: A Novel
The Eyes of the Dragon: A Novel

Review:More of a 3.5.

This is my first Stephen King book. I've bought a lot of his books before (thick ones, with small font sizes!) but I've never gotten around to read them (I'd read the first 50 pages then give up. LOL.) so when a friend of mine forwarded this to me saying a TV series will be produced from it, I thought why not give it a try? Especially since they say that it's a dumbed down version of what he usually writes.

And I liked it, I did, with a few exemptions... The storytel... Read more

The Songs of Distant Earth
The Songs of Distant Earth

Review:I can state, after TSODE, that ACC is an excellent writer- well beyond the genre he's best known for. That said, it's easy to see why even hardcore sci fi fans might not be drawn to him in the way they are to the more pulpy Frank Herbert- descendent of the Jules Verne, HG Wells, Edgar Rice Burroughs vein, the more accessible Philip K. Dick, or the more stoic Isaac Asimov. In all of his books ACC is more of a visionary than a storyteller. His characters are merely ins to the greater tale that he ... Read more

Job: A Comedy of Justice
Job: A Comedy of Justice

Review:I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of a man thrown through the grip of religion and love as he tries to 'save' the woman he recently fell in love with so they can be eternally happy in Heaven. I loved the characters, story, ironic and humorous touches, and couldn't help but feel sorrowed to see it end(yes, I wished that another tale could have been started. Very few novels have ever gotten me to want even more after it was all over, more with these characters, more of the humor and story plots t... Read more

Farmer in the Sky (Heinlein's Juveniles Book 4)

Review:I first read Farmer in the Sky, by Robert Heinlein when I was a teen. It chronicled the sort of adventure I would have enjoyed and the story stayed with me. Years later I read the story to my children and still have a copy in my library today. Read more

The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones

Review:I first read this book when I was a young teen. After many years, I pulled the book off the shelf and read it again. It is an entertaining and fun read. The twins, Castor and Pollux, their Father Roger, and Grandmother Hazel are well written, interesting characters. Meade, the sister, and Edith, their Mother, are poorly written side characters. Edith is a dedicated and hard-working doctor, but her character doesn't have much personality.

While the book stirs the imagination and is humorous... Read more

Review:This is my FAVORITE HEINLEIN book, 2nd Only to GLORY ROAD!! For those who condemn this work, perhaps they haven't grasped all the concepts behind it? Although it is true that Heinlein's early works are his best, this IS ONE OF HIS BEST BOOKS, BAR NONE! I first read this book over 20 years ago, not long after it was first published, and I am HAPPY to read it again today in July 2010! I have give COUNTLESS paperback copies of this book to friends throughout the years, as it is one story I most... Read more

Podkayne of Mars
Podkayne of Mars

Review:As a Heinlein fan and a lover of classic sci fi, I was happy to find this (especially after having seen all the good reviews). Then oh so disappointed. This is basically the diary of a young Martian lady, her younger brother occasionally adds comments. The story starts out inane and repetitive, then becomes dismally boring and finally just dismal. If anyone else had written it, I would not have bothered to finish. What a waste of time and money. Read more

The Door into Summer
The Door into Summer

Review:There are many aspects to this book that is not meant to be taken seriously. Except for one thing: Heinlein, I think, knew a lot about cats. I finally got my first cat six years ago and she is not quite like Petronius the Arbiter, Pete for short, in the book. Since I got her from a shelter, she had to be neutered, an absolute no-no for Pete (and, perhaps, Heinlein's own cats).

I enjoyed all the passages where Pete is present and active the most. OK, time travel back and forth twice (not e... Read more
