Review:Just from the title of this novel....Death Stalks Kettle Street, I knew I was in for a fresh murder, mystery treat. John Bowen has written a fab novel that you will not want to put down. Greg is a treasure trove full of endearing and at times heartbreaking emotions, we see him battling every single day, living with severe OCD as he pushes himself to overcome the smallest task, most of us take for granted. Beth is just as lovely, an aspiring writer, who lives with Celebral Palsy, totally opposit... Read more
Review:Perhaps genius would be too strongly stated for the elegantly understated writing of Mr. Haddon. But he has a wonderful and rare ability to draw you in, and have you keep turning pages, settling deeper and deeper into the domestic world he's created on these pages. I found myself chuckling in recognition of the 61-year-old who was afraid to undress because he didn't want to notice anything new on his skin. The author uses the device of making each chapter sprout from a different character's poin... Read more
Review:Ms Stewart did such an amazing job with all the details and the storyline. I could see the old mohair couch. I want to go find St Dennis and eat the ice cream. This is a great book for anyone who wants to get away in a book. Go to St Dennis! I know I am going to be buying her other books so I can go back.
Ellis/Ellie Chapman had everything she could ever want. She grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth. She worked for her father's company and was engaged to be married, she had it all. ... Read more
Review:This was a nice romance, just not very complex. It was fairly contrived that Tyler would pine away for 17 years, just hoping that his high school crush, Alexis, would show up one day. When she does show up, a recent widow, it was fairly obvious how it was all going to end happily. Still, I enjoyed the book, even though I prefer a little more depth to a story. Read more
Review:I have reread this series several times. Yet I have not been able to bring myself to reread Incubus Dreams. I enjoy many of the characters that are not as beloved by many other fans, but even Nathaniel, who is my favorite and is given much page time, is shorted. His story is slopped down without seeming thought as to how this newest development heightens or helps the main character within LKH's world.
The book seems like it is a neverending rough draft. I am a reader who skims over spelli... Read more
Review:I have always liked Anita Blake as a series. I have made excuses for the books. I can't make them any more. This is by far her best writing in a while that is not pure sex. It is also not a book. It is a scene and the aftermath. In her indulgent manner to release this as a 24 dollar book is to show how much she does not care for any of her readers. The essay and comic on how she writes and the situation that served as the impetus for the book are okay if you want to know. But to show us t... Read more
Review:ok, so let me start by saying i LOVE the earlier novels. however, this one and some of the ones behind it are up to LKH normal standards. i probably would have given this 2 stars if it wasn't for how much i love the series and keep hoping that it will rebound.
what was wrong with the book? well the biggest thing is the indiscriminate sex... lots and lots of meaningless sex. the plot revolves around anita and her uncontrolable impulses. there is little to the mystery. that is my mai... Read more
Review:There is a dose of politics in this one, both the human kind, and the vampire kind. The human issue is one of separatism, basically, as the Humans First organisation wants more information on and the ability to get rid of, the vampire power structures in the city.
This book again has Edward, which is always good.
Imagine if the Executioner or the Punisher got bored with hunting and killing crims and decided on something trickier, and you have a bit of an idea what Edward is about. ... Read more
Review:I bought this in the airport when my flight was delayed. I wish I hadn't. Aside from paying full price for a book that is double-spaced, large type, and has wide margins, the story wasn't there. Too much sex, not enough zombie. Anita is barely likeable anymore. The others have gone into the details very well so I won't bother.
I wish I could trade this book in as a coupon for a full-length, good quality Anita Blake story. Read more
Review:An impressive novel, impressive because it is written in many different voices, but each is convincing and immediately accessible. In parts tender, amusing and horrific. The story unfolds through the different narrators, which might seem tricky reading, but in reality flows naturally. These are voices you hear around you every day. Captures the current feeling in Ireland so well, and puts it in a fictional setting, which is only a few shades from reality. Read more
