Review:I have long admired Ms. Angelou and this anthology of her poems did not disappoint. All her writing is so very personal that you feel you really know a large part of her personally. I recomment this volume highly to anyone who has only read her prose. Read more
Review:This book deserved more like 3 1/2 stars
In A Separate Peace John Knowles' character development was superb, especially when explaining how Gene became a part of Phineas. Gene's urge to become Finny, added complexity to the book, making it more interesting to read. Knowles temporarily takes away this intricacy for an entire chapter when Gene leaves school to go to visit his friend Leper. Gene's trip to Lepers house was the worst part in the book because the intricate relationship between G... Read more
Review:I love Gitanjali and needed to replace my worn out copy. I returned one to Amazon because it was so badly designed as to be hard to read. This one is only somewhat better. All the poems are run together as though it is one big prose piece. I kept it because I was tired of shopping, but I'm disappointed. Read more
Review:Upton Sinclair at his best. The story of an accidental "secret agent" and the traps he falls into. The innocent victims this poor man takes with him is another example of the tyranny of the Fascist regimes Sinclair despises. It is an excellent example of this man's skills, never failing to keep the reader guessing as to where the grim tale will lead. If you like Sinclair with "The Jungle" and "King Coal", you will enjoy this one, too. Read more
Review:How to Write A Simple Book Review by Allyson R. Abbott is a great and informative book.
I have always wanted to write reviews on the books I read, but I always felt that my reviews were unintelligent and just plain bad. With this book, l learned some guidelines to follow and that there is not really a way to mess up a review if, you are giving your exact feelings on the book.
I definitely like how the author says that the review doesn't have to be super lengthy to be a good review.... Read more
Review:I enjoyed the book once the story got beyond Johnny's immaturity. Historically, it was mostly accurate. I did feel that John Adams wasn't adequately portrayed, but then the book wasn't about him. The relationship between Rab and Johnny was interesting was treated in depth. The girls, Cilla and her little sister lacked an adequate portrayal. It was good as far as it went but I would have liked to see more development of them. The shallowness of the Lyte family was apparent as was Mr. Lyte's greed... Read more
Review:First of all, my Kindle download was for 34 books rather than 50 so they must have added some since I downloaded it. It took me over a year to read them all, but I am glad that I did. Chesterton is a great writer, and his writings included poems, plays, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, Christian apologetics, and newspaper columns. You get an excellent view of England of 100 years ago in the time that he wrote, but at the same time, many of the problems and political controversies he wrote ab... Read more
Review:Full of grammatical errors and whole paragraphs repeated, which made it annoying to read. The so-called questions for a book club look like a quiz for high-school freshmen to prove they had read the book; the questions had nothing to do with any issues worth discussing, which is what a book club is about. This summary was definitely not worth one cent. Book Sense, if you are going to publish summaries, at least use spell-check, stop padding the book out by repeating whole sections of text, and a...
