Review:Philippa Gregory's historical novels are powerful and bring personal perspective to the period. I read "The Red Queen" out of order which actually worked out well. When I read "The White Queen" afterward I knew who the people were that were going to have an effect on Elizabeth's life and how her actions were going to create consequences for her. I have enjoyed every Philippa Gregory book I have read ... in particular "Queen's Fool". Read more
Review:The selection is great. I love the introductions before each time period- it really helps understand the history and culture of the time. Each author has a bio, which is nice. It's nicely laid out, easy to read, and very compact. Since I love literature, this series is a great value and something I enjoy reading outside of class. Read more
Review:It's a love story, and it has everything: bandits, highwaymen, corrupt judges, criminal masterminds, heroes, villains, faithful friends, lovers, betrayals, robbery, murder, mines, runaway carriages, and beer for breakfast. It's written in classic 19th-century prose style, so don't be put off by the slow start. Slog through it, tough it out, fall it love with the great John Ridd and the beautiful robber's child, Lorna Doone. Set in Exmoor, it's based on historical events. The Ridd farmhouse exist... Review:Autobiography of Mark Twain - 100th Anniversary Edition Buying what I thought was the new Mark Twain autobiography, this book arrived. Same title, looks authentic, but appears to be an outside instant publishing effort which slipped its product onto the Amazon catalog. Telltale evidence: printer's mark on back page: "24 March 2011" -- just a couple of days before I ordered the book.

Review:Semi-autobiographical account of Twain as greenhorn tenderfoot dude among Indians, miners, cowboys, and the natives of the Sandwich Islands. His telling of a coming flood as if it ranked second only to Noah's sticks with me 43 years after reading it. Just ordered the Kindle version to revisit Twain's fantasyland of life viewed through nonstop ironic humor. Read more

Review:Very different from most of his writing, although the circumstances previous to the writing had certainly colored his outlook. Still, very worthy of reading because of the different angle from which it is written. Read more
Review:The music in this item is awesome. It is calming especially when driving. As you listen you can reread the book in your mind. The book is better than the film though the film was also excellent. I am glad I bought this CD. Read more
Review:What a strange fascinating narrator! While Jane Eyre will always be my favorite of Charlotte's novels, Villette holds its own. I admit the narration will not be for everyone. Often the side characters take on brighter more perceivable places in this story than it's hero, yet it is still compelling. I highly recommend this novel, and it's intriguing and and illusive narrator. Read more
