This 277-page book is an important contribution to our understanding of the increasing interactions between large carnivores and humans. Review:I'm still reading this book, with great pleasure, and have given it as a gift, as well. The book gives me a whole new perspective on the consciousness of animals. I had no knowledge of octopuses, nor of other sea animals. I do live in an area with many animals and birds, and have observed them, as they have observed me. What a gift to be among them! I recommend this book to anyone who wants to think of animals in a new way. Read more
Review:I bought this for my grandchildren who just moved from Japan to the United States. They loved it. My son took one look and said it was better than anything he had. Now they can sart recording their bird finds! Read more
Review:Excellent assist for me as a new birder following a guided trip to Costa Rica. Our guide and a friend used it to narrow choices as we viewed birds. I've been using it to familiarize myself with the birds I saw and photographed while there. Read more
Review:hardly any info on Octopi. Just old views on western consciousness. The author should go sit a 10 day silent meditation vipassana course and explore his own consciousness. Was seriously bummed out, but maybe I had really high expectations because I've always wondered about Octopi Read more
Review:This guys is some kind of weird freak. Seriously. His social experiments with the birds, his obsession with all the weird little things. Nonetheless, an interesting read. I would take what he says with a grain of salt. He is a little too close to the subject for objectivity.
In his whole discussion of the interaction between Ravens and Wolves, I think he may be seeing what he wants to see more than what is there. I live and work in Yellowstone National Park, and while there may be a... Read more
Review:I suspect that reading this book would be better than the audio version. The author reads her own work and, while I have certainly heard worse narrators, I have also heard much better. The author uses some inflection but her voice is general dull and heavy. Still, for listeners with an interest in sharks, it may be worth the time, even though nothing really spectacular happens nor does the author give a lot of details about the sharks. It is mainly about what happens to her when she visits s... Read more
Review:Dr. Grandin has been extremely successful in her work with animals. She has used her diagnosis of Autism as a gift to improve the treatment of animals and lessen the trauma by being able to understand their behaviors. Read more
Review:Suzanne Clothier gives wonderful insight to the importance of understanding our dogs and creating a respectful relationship with them. As a puppy raiser for guide dogs I have found her insight to be VERY helpful Read more
Review:Kevin Richardson has a life doing what he loves - taking care of big carnivores and their small cubs. His early life included lots of taking care of sick or abandoned animals, and two failed attempts to follow his older brother into veterinary school. Fortunately, Kevin ended up meeting a person who had just bought a nearby animal park.
Kevin explains why it is important to know the animals and their different personalities. He learned to related to them as a fellow lion - getting down on... Read more
