Detour from Normal
Detour from Normal

Review:This book was well written and the research that went into it was very evident. The amazing thing is this could happen to any of us, and we could be thrust into the world of mania and mental illness as haplessly as he did. It is interesting to see how the human mind works and that here is a spectrum of mania's influence and degrees of it. The last few chapters are full of really valuable insight and life advice that is useful. I appreciated the advocacy for individuals with mental illness, as th... Read more

Letters to a Young Poet
Letters to a Young Poet

Review:I am no intellectual, and stumbled upon this book through a ladies' magazine article asking celebs what they were reading. Elizabeth Shue, whose talent I really enjoy, mentioned Letters to a Young Poet. The book is for the open-minded and the big- hearted, teachable few that possess the intellectual chops to parse and absorb the beauty of Rilke's words and insight. It is both a comfort and an inspiration. I LOVE this book. Buy it, and share some time with it, and yourself. Read more

A True Story of a Wrongful Conviction and its Astonishing Aftermath
A True Story of a Wrongful Conviction and its Astonishing Aftermath

Review:Bought this at my local book store several ago, and found it to be one of the best true crime stories I've ever read. It's so well written; it just pulled me along from chapter to chapter. There is no question that Avery was wrongly convicted of a rape he did not commit and Michael Griesbach tells the story of what it took to free him in a clear, concise, and fascinating manner. A civics lesson well told. Read more

The Case Against Steven Avery and What Making a Murderer Gets Wrong
The Case Against Steven Avery and What Making a Murderer Gets Wrong

Review:Never trust someone who is writing a book and putting out pictures in it that were never used in the trial that should be the property of the state of WI, Also find out what conditions he has follow to practice law again, they ate pretty interesting.it will tell you what this I can't say man leaves a bad taste in my mouth will do to be the big guy again. The Missing Truth about Steven Avery - and Making a Murderer
The Missing Truth about Steven Avery - and Making a Murderer

Review:Great book. It's a fact- based approach (unlike the Netflix series). It points out the obvious falsifications with the series and proves that Avery is a psychopath and was rightly convicted of murder. I think there has rarely been anyone this guilty of a heinous murder. Read more

Review:I enjoyed reading about Dave's life and what makes him tick. I've always gotten a chuckle from his humor. The book is written as if he's talking directly to you in conversation.

I have more respect for him after reading the book. He owns up to lots of stuff and calls it like he sees it. Good stuff for a celebrity/comedian. Read more

My Path to Womanhood - Love & So Much More
My Path to Womanhood - Love & So Much More

Review:Redefining realness, engaged me both emotionally and intellectually. Janet Mock explores the complex intersections of her own identity in an honest and sensitive way that affects the reader at multiple levels. Her work can be read as a well-constructed counter-narrative, speaking back to stereotypical depictions of trans women of color. Read more

Battle Cry of Freedom
Battle Cry of Freedom

Review:The civil war was a pivotal moment in american history and in the making of the country. McPherson's work esposes in a readable way the decisives facts of the ephoc and gives a fundamented account of its meaning. The author made an impressive research about the matter, telling the story with a slightly sympathy for the Union cause. A great book that leads to a great reading. Read more

A Searing Memoir of the Battle to Integrate Little Rock's Central High
A Searing Memoir of the Battle to Integrate Little Rock's Central High

Review:Had to get this book for an ethnic studies class.... figured I'd learn something new, but didn't. While Beals' journal entries are the highlight of the book, she does little to shed new light on the civil rights experiences of her lifetime. While not a bad book by any means, it is also not a great book as it was really hard to finish this book. Had I bought it as a casual read, I might not have made it the whole way, but since it was required, it wasn't half bad, I have had to read a lot wors... Read more

A Child's Descent into Madness and Her Father's Struggle to Save Her
A Child's Descent into Madness and Her Father's Struggle to Save Her

Review:I have read some really harsh reviews of this book but I say "it is not our job to judge". No one knows whatbthey would do unless they have actually been in the situation themselves. I think the author is being brutally honest in this book. He could have left out the unflattering parts but he did not. I was captivated by the overwhelming challenges this family is faced with every single day. I think this book gives a good look into this child's illness and daily life. Read more
