A True Story of the Holocaust - Four Perfect Pebbles
A True Story of the Holocaust - Four Perfect Pebbles

Review:I loved this book, because it tells of a young girls struggle against the most evil power the world has ever known. When I read the book, my mind was there suffering with the millions who were caught up in the madness of that day, all because they were Jewish.
The world must never, never forget this horrible time in history. Read more

My Life on the Road
My Life on the Road

Review:Gloria Steinem writes about different kinds of travel with her usual gentle humor and carefully crafted chapters. She introduces the reader to friends she has made along the way, showing her love and admiration for them. But most importantly, like any successful organizer she teaches through memorable stories of her family and of many others from whom she has learned the importance of balance in life. Read more

Life on the Mississippi
Life on the Mississippi

Review:I have never found so many ideas explored in a book before. This book meanders like the river it celebrates, touching on everything from geography to personal narrative. It has wit and wisdom, tall tales and beautiful truths, stinging social commentary mixed with honest wonder at the changing times. All told in a voice as American as apple pie. I truly think Samuel Clemens cannot be rated highly enough in his capabilities as an observer, reporter, and bulls***ter. (I mean this in the most loving... Read more

The Legends of King Arthur and His Knights
The Legends of King Arthur and His Knights

Review:The story seems to go from event to event to event, (not really the same as the stories you have seen repeatedly in the movies) with limited connectedness between them. I wanted to know the whole story, as I enjoy the Arthur stories in every version I have seen, but much prefer the movie rewrites over the book, which is completely off for me. Read more

and the Wickedest Town in the American West - Bat Masterson
and the Wickedest Town in the American West - Bat Masterson

Review:This was a good bio of 2 of the Well know Lawmen of the wild west and the town they helped tame. Did have lots of good stories of their lives and travels. Also many side stories of others who they encounter during their lives. What I really noticed is how much traveling they did when all they had was horses, wagons/stages and trains, all very slow back then. Mr Clavin just brings together many other bios written before in to one book. Not a lot of excitement in this book. Even the gun fights did... Read more

A Military-Aviation Thriller - The Devil Dragon Pilot
A Military-Aviation Thriller - The Devil Dragon Pilot

Review:As an aviation buff, I enjoyed the read. But seriously, the premise was good, that storyline was well told, but when it came to the actual execution of the caper, and the ending, I had to roll my eyes. Unbelievable, and sappy. I understand Cheese was carrier qualified, so you would think his story about stealing a foreign stealth plane that overflies a land base, to land on a carrier, without the mention of any ICLS or even an ILS heads up display in the Devildragon...or a tailhook?III? Man's Search For Meaning
Man's Search For Meaning

Review:This is not just a book about Dr. Frankl's experiences as a concentration camp (Auschwitz) survivor. It is an inspiring explanation of how a person's outlook on any situation is not subjective, but instead, objective. One's purpose in life and meaning on this world does not have to be defined by society's measure of success. Very inspiring, to say the least. Read more

A humorous (and true) account of a man who was sentenced to death 3 times -- and survived.
A humorous (and true) account of a man who was sentenced to death 3 times -- and survived.

Review:I began reading the Accidental Anarchist Friday night, and just finished it on Sunday afternoon. It is a beautiful, enthralling work, which took me across generations and across decades, and connected me with aspects of my own ancestors' lives that I had heard bits and pieces of but never fully understood.

And, the voice of Jacob Marateck convinced me that I knew him, and that I was able to experience what he went through and feel his feelings.

I will buy copies of this book for fr... Read more

Harry S. Truman and the Four Months That Changed the World
Harry S. Truman and the Four Months That Changed the World

Review:A riveting tale of how a common citizen of modest heritage rose to the task of leading the United States, as well as the Allied Powers of the free world, to conclude President Roosevelt's years of effort to win the war. Read more

The Epic Account of World War II's Greatest Rescue Mission
The Epic Account of World War II's Greatest Rescue Mission

Review:This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to learn more about the Bataan Death March in Philippines during the Second World War. Most people, have focused on Iwo Jima, Peleliu, and Okinawa to learn more about the ordeals of soldiers in World War II and have often "forget" about these brave souls in Philipines. In "Ghost Soldiers", Hampton Sides gives these forgotten soldiers, voices.
This book deals with both the successful rescue effort by the 6th Ranger and the ordeal of the prisoners ... Read more
