Review:Faulkner's near perfect tragi-comedy of a poor family trying to get their dead mother's corpse to her preferred final resting place, with fire and flood intervening. Family members and friends tell their own version of the story, each in a combination of his/her own voice laced with Biblical Faulnerisms never uttered by man or beast. This is a tour de force, short enough to finish reading in a weekend, and guaranteed to stay with you for years. The Vintage edition is excellent. Read more
Review:Blubber is a book about a girl who is always being called blubber because of her weight. And a girl who tells the story in her point of veiw. The girl makes fun off her too. During the story she relizes what she is doing. The message of the book is what goes around comes around.
Very good book. I liked it because of the way the girls act in the school. They cus sometimes just like kids do today. That's why it's so belevilbe. Judy blume makes this story come to life with characters from school... Read more
Review:Tiger Eyes..... okay, when I started reading it I couldn't put it down. When I finished with it, it wasn't finished with me. This book doesn't make the characters lives all going and good. It talks about reality. Things people really go through. I think it has a message, but I don't know what. Davey was just feeling lonely and felt like she was in a bad soap opera, but she managed to get through it, and I think the book does have a happy ending. But I REALLY think there's room for a sequel. AND ... Read more
Review:Although it might seem like a petty girly book, it actually is a really good book that shows what girls go through with young love. I went through a lot of these same emotions when I was younger and thought I was in love. Great books for parents of teenagers. Read more
Review:Deenie is a great character. Once i started to read it I didnt stop. As it turns out I read the book in 3 hours srait!! IT is a cliffhangerish book, but not quite. At the end of every chapter you want to know what is going to turn out with the girl Deenie. This is a strong and sensual book. It is just like you are thinking what Deenie is thinking because you can feel what she is going through. I have read it so many times you wouldnt believe. I reccomend this book to people who cant ge... Read more
Review:Taleb has delivered another intriguing book that centers on dealing with uncertainty in life. With his now-familiar straight forward and engaging writing style, he exposes the reader to numerous and varied people and ideas that have shaped history. His main thesis is the importance of not leaving decisions up to bureaucrats, who have no "skin in the game". He cites several examples, especially related to the field of finance, where certain individuals are exposed to the upsides of decisions but ... Read more
Review:This text was so easy to understand and could probably be given to High-school students, or even younger. Nothing is too complex for the average reader. You will actually find yourself shaking your head yes as most of this is simple common sense. But what really makes this book valuable is how all these simple ideas are taken to illustrate the answers to common economic questions we have all had, that we all see in the news, and politics every day. A lot of societies problems could be alleviated... Read more
Review:The book, The Storm Before the Storm, by Mike Duncan was published in 2017. The impressively well-researched, concise, and scholarly work relates to the stone-throwing, sword-wielding history of Rome during the time period roughly four to seven generations before the birth of Jesus Christ. A stark sense of foreboding begins to dawn on you when you read between the lines. You find the inference "raising an army in Rome was not difficult" has far-reaching implications. In addition, the author ... Read more
Review:This is an interesting read .. Definetly a departure from normal le Carre writing. It is a bit arcane and rambling. However as a reader and owner of all of his novels, I needed to read this book. You can read a chapter here and there. I have not finished it although I've had it for several weeks. It will be several more til it's done. Still a good addition to my library. Read more
Review:After loony Hitler and his acolytes killed 6 million Jews and millions of "undesirables" who didn't live up to Aryan standards, the Western World said, "never again." Ms. Power clearly shows how empty this promise was during the 20th Century. Her primary focus is on the United States due to us being the major superpower as well as a beacon to the rest of the world when it comes to human rights. The problem is we fall very short in the "never again" category. Heck, not only did U.S. Presidents co... Read more
