Queen Hereafter: A Novel of Margaret of Scotland
Queen Hereafter: A Novel of Margaret of Scotland

Review:This historical, romantic novel is a page turner and I loved it. It is based on twelfth century history in Scotland and Northumbria of England in a war between Norman William the Conqueror and King Malcolm (Canmore) of Scotland. Princess Margaret of England, along with her father, mother, sister and brother Prince Edgar the Aetheling, had fled to the royal court of Hungary, an extremely pious Catholic nation for sanctuary, but Margaret's father was called back to England and shortly thereafter ... Changeling (Order of Darkness Book 1)
Changeling (Order of Darkness Book 1)

Review:I just downloaded and started this book today, so this review only covers the first few chapters. I am trying to get into the book, but the glaring mistakes in editing are really taking me out of the story. The very first sentence is a prime example:"The hammering on the door shot him into wakefulness like a handgun going off in his face." Really? A handgun? In a book set in 1453???? How does the protagonist know what a handgun is? Hello there, first of many anachronisms.
Later the author des... Read more

CAPTURED BY A LAIRD (THE DOUGLAS LEGACY Book 1)
CAPTURED BY A LAIRD (THE DOUGLAS LEGACY Book 1)

Review:This is the first time I write a review. Ever. I loved this book so much, I had to write one. I have read everything Margaret has ever written; and in my opinion, this is her best work so far! With this book, she took me on an emotional journey that had me laughing, crying (yes, crying! I haven't cried while reading a novel since I was a teenager!), and wishing for the painful demise of a few nasty villains. When she began writing it, I was skeptical that I would love another series as muc... Read more

The Battle for America - Book One of Contact
The Battle for America - Book One of Contact

Review:I got this book for my mom because she has read previous books from the same author and she loves these types of books. This is her review:

I read this book and found it interesting. I have read books by these authors before and found this book to be a continuation of their attention to detail. I have found the Gears to be accurate in their portrayal of the way people lived during the time periods they write about. Also, their historical facts are accurate. The only suggestion I have... A Book Club Recommendation! - The Tumbling Turner Sisters
A Book Club Recommendation! - The Tumbling Turner Sisters

Review:I've enjoyed each of Juliette Fay's novels so I pre-ordered the Tumbling Turner Sisters. I really loved Fay's delightful departure into historical fiction. The characters, their relationships and transformations, and the setting all work together to make an excellent page turner. I'd highly recommend it for an engaging summer read or gift. Read more

Moon Over Manifest
Moon Over Manifest

Review:Initially I briefly felt that the book was perhaps a little trite, but I withheld judgment because I found the main character interesting. Abilene, whose name is also the name of President Eisenhower's Kansas hometown, is a likeable young girl without direction or place in the world who is resignedly looking for answers. As I read on, I began to realize that "Moon Over Manifest" is a very skillfully crafted tale of two periods of Kansas, U.S., and world history with exceptionally authentic langu... Read more

Tangerine: A Novel
Tangerine: A Novel

Review:Definitely Hitchcockian, exotic, with an ending I didn't expect. It easily could have been written in the 1950s, the decade in which it is set, except it was written in this decade--this writer really captures the elegant writing style of an era decades before she was born. Hard to do, but Mangan is successful at it. By the way, why do several reviewers who are critical of this book all spell Joyce Carol Oates's name incorrectly? Read more

A Story about the Salem Witch Trials - A Break with Charity

Review:The book I read was a Break With Charity by Ann Rinaldi. It was about the Salem Witch trials. The main characture is Susanna English who really wants to join a circle of girls at the parsonage. The girls in the parsonage gather in the circle every night to have their fortunes told by the reverands slave ,Tituba. When Susanna finally gets the courage to go inside she witnesses terrible things that are about to occur in the town of Salem Village.
I choose to read this book because I never lea... Read more

Survivor (Belle Book 3)
Survivor (Belle Book 3)

Review:"Survivor" by Lesley Pearse is a historical romance set against the onslaught of WWII when Germany began bombarding England. The story, filled with action, drama, and adventure begins in 1938 when Mariette (Mari) Carrera a beautiful headstrong and self-centered young woman is sent to her godfather's house in London after getting into a compromising position with a truck driver that brings shame to her family. Feeling a sense of euphoria at leaving the suffocating confines of her small hometown ... Read more

Halt's Peril: Book Nine (Ranger's Apprentice)
Halt's Peril: Book Nine (Ranger's Apprentice)

Review:Out of the entire series, only Halt's Peril is 14.99. The rest are either 7.99 or 10.99, and I am not sure why this one was so expensive. Also, there were a lot of strange spelling errors peppered throughout the book, a bad sign for the Kindle editor since the print edition is not like this. Still, it is a great book. Read more
