Seconds: A Graphic Novel
Seconds: A Graphic Novel

Review:Seconds is the kind of story that would be great as a metaphor or as a thought exercise. As things stand, however, the presentation is too clear and straightforward, it just becomes tiresome and predictable. O'Malley is at his best when his story isn't being told, but rather implied, and there's simply too much telling here. Read more

Girl, Interrupted
Girl, Interrupted

Review:Author Susanna Kaysen lets the world into her mind in "Girl, Interrupted." For someone who was suppose to be "nuts" and in a mental hospital this tale of her time there is very clear and brilliant. She's wonderfully poetic and compelling. I found this book frank, honest and deeply funny in some areas. She pulled no punches and truly drove into her own mind and those who she shared her time with at the hospital. It's a tough and powerful novel that is told so honestly that you want to b... Read more

White Teeth: A Novel
White Teeth: A Novel

Review:I would enthuse wildly, but there's nothing to enthuse about. I would bash, but there's not much to bash. I'm pretty much 'meh' about this book. I expected more.

The first time I saw White Teeth it was in a huge ad on the side of my favorite bookstore. I looked at it, read whatever was written underneath and decided it was probably a serious book about racial issues, so I wasn't really interested. Incidentally, I was wrong about the first part. The book's a comedy through and through. But... Read more

God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater
God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater

Review:- There was a lot of set-up for a story that never developed.

This was my 1st K.V. book.
I usually read/scan reviewers; if a mix of both genders is represented, I find a better chance of enjoying the book. (And, it eliminates the 'fluff'.)

MARS VS VENUS -Interestingly, there were mainly male reviewers & the majority of these gave the book high marks. Of the few women represented, most seemed to agree with me...or, I with them.

Since the book is void of car chases,... Read more

Critical Failures (Caverns and Creatures Book 1)
Critical Failures (Caverns and Creatures Book 1)

Review:Nothing mind blowing but it was a quick and enjoyable read. The best part about the book is that it made me want to read more "D&D" based fiction. Just not necessarily the next book in this particular series. Read more

Moth Smoke
Moth Smoke

Review:This is a great book. I knew nothing about Pakistan before reading this book, while reading I was absorbed into the culture and strongly felt that I am living in Lahore. Surprisingly an excellent piece of litreture from a Pakistani author. Characterization is simply at its best, the way the characters interact with the reader in first person is hard to find in any other book. Just anxiously waiting for the next sequel, hopefully there is one and if not then another one from Hamid. Read more

How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia: A Novel
How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia: A Novel

Review:I'm marveled by the author's writing skill and his wits.
But as an Asian born person, I do not find this book particularly appealing.
I bought this because Tim Ferriss recommended in his night time routine.... Read more

Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori - Book 1)
Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori - Book 1)

Review:I found that I became an avid fantasy enthusiast after reading the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit. There was an endless search I went through for a book with a similar appeal Tolkien was able to generate through his style of writing. I never thought I would enjoy that kind of adventure again. But I did! I think everyone can agree that authors who take on such a project will have many difficulties building the proper atmosphere and characters a fantasy book/series should have. This is o... A Sarah's Scribbles Collection - Adulthood is a Myth
A Sarah's Scribbles Collection - Adulthood is a Myth

Review:Great little book! I recently discovered Sarah's Scribbles and spent more hours than I care to admit reading through the majority of them online.

Her work is most appealing to a certain personality type and/or a majority of Millennials, so this might not be everyone's cup of tea.

I was mildly disappointed this collection didn't contain a handful of my favorite strips, but they were newer and likely posted after the book was already compiled. So here's hoping for book 2! Other than ... Read more
